Join Jeremy Solin and I for the February Nature walk recap. This "el nino" winter has been wild, and this walk was no different.

Making time to take a trip out into nature without a productivity goal. No need to measure calories, distance, or intensity. Our goal will be a better understanding of our home and the plants and wildlife we live with. Excited to share our mutual love of wandering in the woods with everyone.

Counselor Steve and I sit down to chat about the April AWS mental health topic of change. We talk about change in life and physical health along with ways to reflect, understand, and live with these changes.

We are also excited to share some added benefits for AWS members starting in May.

1:1 therapy sessions for anyone in your family included in your membership.

Referral perks for friends and family that start with your invite.

Journaling - Steve and I talk about the benefits of journaling for understanding change in the world, our lives, and our minds. A recent book I have been working through called Perspectives by Jack Ricchiuto is one I would highly recommend. It covers a broad base of styles for journaling and how they can help us.

Emotional Intelligence Book - As a coach Emotional Intelligence and empathy are vital for successful communication. Both Steve and I are big fans of the book Emotional Intelligence 2.0.

Bill here, I wanted to start off with a big thank you to everyone that has supported the show or my coaching in person or remote. 2022 offered up some big changes in my life professionally, I am now operating under my own business Team Early and Fit along with collaborating with Steve Johnson a local counselor that owns his practice. I am excited for 2023 and the direction my coaching service is headed and the growth along with it.

In this first episode of 2023 I wanted to introduce Steve Johnson who will be a regular on the show. Steve and I will be reviewing our monthly program of mental and physical training at AWS/Rise Fitness. Steve and I cover the big changes and the creation of this idea since fall of last year, and we review some of the topics covered in that time.

OUR MISSION

We want our members to learn, grow, and reach their goals – both physical and mental.

Accountability will be maintained through in-person morning training times, an online group, and app check-ins with other members and coaches.

Life is easier when you are connected with other people who care about you, who invest in your mental health, and who help you seek your best physical well-being.

If you are without community, AWS is a connecting point for many different ways to pursue healthiness.

you can find out more here.

Steve Johnson is a Licensed Professional Counselor. He helps teens, adults, couples and families with a variety of issues and concerns.

You can find out more about Steve and I here.

Rolling into another year of spring activities! The TEAF podcast has always been about the intersection of community, fitness, and food. There is no better way to celebrate this than with the spring maple season. Sharing space with the trees, feeling the heart beat of the forest, carrying buckets, long nights of cooking sap, and celebrating life with friends. I am joined by my friend Kelly (my co-host on the WI BHA podcast,) Jeremy Solin for our third Maple Podcast, and by Chris Munson and her daughter Rio Greendeer. Chris and Rio share with us how maple season is done in their family with Ho-Chunk and Oneida culture.

I love this podcast every year and I hope it helps to motivate people to start tapping their own trees and we can all start carrying our own pocket syrups.

"This too is what it means to be a citizen of Maple Nation, having maple in your bloodstream, maple in your bones. We are what we eat, and with every golden spoonful maple carbon becomes human carbon. Our traditional thinking had it right: maples are people, people are maples." - Robin Wall Kimmerer

Out of the 2020 carbonite or ashes maybe...I wanted to bring you this bonus episode with just recently announced Team USA Olympic Cross-Country Skier Kevin Bolger.

One of the last "normal" podcasts recorded before the pandemic. I am joined by my friend Jared Linzmeier of Ruby Coffee to co-host this episode. We chat with Minocqua native Kevin Bolger on Olympic skiing, training mindset, the importance of getting outside, and if I remember correctly we had tasty scones and Ruby snacks.

A great conversation and I hope you all enjoy!

It has been A LONG time since my last coaches corner podcast. A year of helping my dad recover from multiple poor spinal fusion operations has been a test. No one prepares you for watching your parents get old and have their physical capacity taken from them. Challenges all the identities and roles you had created for you and your loved ones. This year I have also been volunteering more in various organizations and leaning more into helping the local community where I can.

A big thank you to the patrons of the show. You support has kept the website and digital catalog up and running. Along with the show we were able to host local meal prep workshops for people at Central Rivers Farmshed in Stevens Point, and use the funds to get multiple people involved in hunting. After taking the Becoming an Outdoors Woman Mentor training back in early 2020 I wanted to make sure I continued down that path in some small way.

Thank you to Scholze Family beef, long time supporter of the show and all things Seasonal AF meal prep. Check our their custom Wisconsin beef options shipped right to your door!

This episode of Coaches Corner, we sit down with David Derus of Midwest Peak Performance to chat the Head Games Event we have coming up this week at D1 Training Stevens Point. How do we start forging a more resilient mind and build some strong habits along the way? Those topics and more discussed!

How do we become native to a place?  A question Jeremy Solin brought up on episode 1 of the SeasonalAF tour for 2021.  I cant help but think that educating ourselves on the "weeds" growing around us may be a great first place to start.

Joined by my friends Chris Gavin of Eagle Outdoor Skills and Kelly VanLaanen of Becoming an Outdoors Woman to talk about foraging, the land ethic, and the various programs they offer to teach people how to live WITH their environment.

Back in the studio for the final pre-hunt prep podcast with Kelly and Peggy.  We break down hunting logistics for our new hunters Lyna and Mike.  Many nuggets and pearls for hunting mentors, new hunters, or people interested in tongue pressure for mouth calls...

With all the scuttlebutt around R3 in the hunting world we hope this can be the start of reimagining how we learn and share about these outdoor traditions.  A love of the outdoors for everyone will help our conservation efforts going forward.

Excited to share it with you all.

We are back for episode 2 of Turkey Hunting 101.  Kelly and I are joined by Wildlife Biologist Sara Kehrli to talk all things turkey in Wisconsin. We dive into habitat, hunting logistics, social structure, what the turkey stamp is, and more.

There have been a few anti-R3 articles posted from some mainstream hunting organizations. While they each may have a valid concern or two, I could not disagree more with the thinking R3 does not have an important part to play in continuing in sharing and evolving our outdoor pursuits.  Quality over quantity and creating a new way of sharing has been the goal of this project.

Enjoy, and reach out if you need any help.

I love Seasonal Books. Stories that follow the changing of the seasons on the landscape. The most common may be A Sand County Almanac.

I prefer the Last River Rat.  My current seasonal read for 2021 is Onigamiising Seasons of an Ojibwe Year.  I am absolutely loving it, and both of these last two reads agree with me that the year should start with spring not mid winter january...any ways.

I am joined by my friends Kat of Cattail Organics and Jeremy of Tapped Maple Syrup to welcome in the new year by talking about all things Maple, the Land Ethic, family, business, and more maple syrup.

Enjoy!

We started the SeasonalAF series with the maple season. Now we dive into chasing turkeys.  We will be guided by my friend Kelly VanBeek a biologist, and the best damn turkey tactician I  know.  We will learn all the things about how to enjoy spring and chase some gobblers.

The "WE" is myself, Chef Mike of Chef C's Munchie Mobile/Father Fats/Chef's Kitchen here in Stevens Point.  He is a 5 year hunter who loves eating local, making amazing meals, and interested in improving his hunting skills.  Lyna Matesi the UWSP MBA director is my other turkey hunting buddy that will be going into her first hunting season.  She wants to learn all the things!

We are joined in this first episode by guest host Peggy Farrell of the Becoming an Outdoors Woman program here at UWSP.  She will be our guide into this world of hunting stories, being a good buddy, and continuing the human tradition of hunting.  I hope this series will be a guide for people looking to mentor with a learning style, and also help those looking to get started on their own.

Please reach out with anything you would like to see covered.
