In this weeks episode, Josean Velez joins the Raising Alphas Project to share about the day his daughter passed away over 10 years ago, and what he and his wife, Chrislie, have done to strengthen the community. Through Tragedy, Josean and Chrislie have created the "Live for Brie Foundation". Their foundation is in honor of their daughter, Briseias, who through an unfortunate tragedy, drown when she was only 3 years old. Brie stills lives on today through this foundation, helping other families in hard times and bringing awareness to pool safety and drowning prevention. Life isn't easy. We all know that through our life experiences. We can not hide from teaching these experiences to our children. We have to be tough on them early, so they understand how to handle adversities, disappointments, and failures. At this time in their lives, they are resilient and can handle defeat. The desire to have competition among children is natural and should be treated that way. Losing shouldn't be thought of something we need to shield our childrent from, but a teaching tool to better themselves. Our children are resilent and can take on those moments if their shown how to lose with dignity and win with grace. Keeping Score is a way to build confidence, identity weaknessess and strengths among individuals and the team as a whole. Sports can be played to have fun, however, they all have a common goal in the end... a Winner. This is we as parents should be teaching. It's ok to lose, but we go into the game or in life expecting to Win.

Understand not to accept labels that you or others may put on you, as you are not the same person that you were last week or 5 years ago. Steve and David discuss the importance of raising the next generation to understand that in life there will be mistakes and failures. In this episode of The Raising Alphas, we interview a friend of Steve's, Paul Lawrence, to share a concrete example of this manifests in real life. Two years ago, two of Paul's sons were in a terrible vehicle accident, resulting in each son having Traumatic Brain Injuries.
