On a mission to help those who are struggling in life, all proceeds from the track will go to support children's charities both here on the Island and in the UK.

10 year old Aastha Vakil is a rising star in inspirational music who shares her time between Mumbai, London and the Isle of Man. She has just released a new song and video, which was filmed at Ballakermeen High School with children from Rachel Wild's Performance Studio, titled "Believe in Yourself." The project aims to promote children's mental health awareness and empower children to develop resilience and self-belief.

This Summer, Skateistan and Women Win hosted the 2024 ROLL Models Leadership Camp in Paris and Manx skateboarder Ali Mellor was there to represent the Isle of Man.
Ali , from Gal Skate, was in attendance along with 20 other women and non-binary social skateboarding leaders, from 10 countries across Europe.
The camp aims to create a safe space for skaters to share their stories, make connections, acquire new knowledge and boost their confidence.
It's part of an initiative from the Goodpush Alliance which aims to support and share knowledge among social skateboarding projects worldwide.
September is World Dementia Awareness Month and to mark it, two local charities have combined forces to provide support and information for Dementia Awareness week.
Claire Cubberly from Alzheimer's Society Isle of Man and Jeanette Hogg, a Hospice Admiral Nurse from Forget Me Not, tell us about their charities.
Forget Me Not Admiral Nurses will be joining up with partners from Manx Care, Manx Decaf, the Alzheimer's Society and other third sector partners, for a number of dementia awareness events through the week of 23 September. If you're worried about dementia, or caring for someone with dementia, and want more information, representatives from these groups will be in the Strand Shopping Centre on Friday 27th September from 11am until 3pm.

The WORLD Tin Bath Championship takes place Saturday 7th September in Castletown Harbour. There'll be man powered flying machines, rubber ring snake races and - of course - highly competitive 'bath captains' trying to stay afloat in the historic capital, all while raising money for local charities and bringing endless laughter to the watching crowds.

A rare bike which won the 1923 Senior TT will be displayed on Sunday in Douglas. It was ridden by Tom Sheard, who was the first Manxman to win a TT race the previous year.
Tom's granddaughter lost her son Daniel to bowel cancer shortly after this year's TT races and she has decided to put her grandfather’s bike on display to help raise awareness of the condition.
She's been speaking to Manx Radio's William King about Daniel, the bike and her grandfather Tom.

It might be a beautiful sunny day on the tiny Isle with only light winds and rippling waves, but we know only too well how that weather – and those conditions - can change within moments.
And it’s at times like this that our wonderful lifeboat volunteers are on guard, ready to drop everything at all hours of the day or night and leap to our aid on the high seas should we need it.
With the Island being the birthplace of the RNLI, it’s apt that an exhibition marking the 200th anniversary of the organisation has opened at the House of Manannan - and it includes a gold medal awarded to Manx resident Sir William Hillary who founded the charity.
MNH's Curator of Archaeology Alison Fox told our Howard Caine that it's an honour to have the artefact on display as part of their 'All At Sea' exhibition.

Our charity for Learning Disabilities Week has been Manx Mencap.
Christy chats with Kelly Quaye and Jacquie Dawson about some of the plans organised by the charity to mark the week itself, also the ongoing activities available to service users and families and fundraising; they also chat about Expedition Limitless, a group of adventurous souls who came together with one aim - to raise a staggering £100,000 for Manx Mencap in June 2024!
As part of their goal, 12 of those individuals successfully completed a 715km canoe trip on the mighty Yukon river; Christy was able to ask Jacquie and Kelly what something like this means to the charity and what a difference it will make.

This Saturday, 56 hardy Manxies braved it for Breast Cancer Now, taking part in the charity's annual sleepover.

Almost 2 million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives. Our Charity of the Week, Guide Dogs, works for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life, for a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you.
14 yr old Katie Jacobs has been supporting the charity for some time already and, on Saturday 13th April 2024 from 10.00am-12.00pm, Katie is hosting a Coffee Morning in Aid of Guide Dogs - in hope of raising £2500.00 to name one of the Guide Dog Puppies.

Almost 50 young people, from the age of 7 through to 17, took part in the Young Singer of Mann Competition at the Erin Arts Centre this weekend. Introduced by organiser Pip Rolfe, each competitor sang two short pieces of their own choosing and all were accompanied live by Madeleine Kelly.
Christy was on the panel again, so took the opportunity to record some chat with her fellow Judges - and also caught up with the winners from both Saturday’s Junior heat (Aalish Kilgallon) and Sunday’s Senior winner (Orry Wilson).

Sandra Smith has made it her mission over the past 12 years to raise money for the Army Benevolent Fund, which supports soldiers, past and present and their families, for life.
This October sees her adding to her total of walking hundreds of miles in the Frontline Walk following in the footsteps of those who fought on the Somme and Passchendaele battlefields during the First World War.

The Manx Citizens Advice Service provides free impartial advice to people for a variety of problems, including Housing issues, Benefits advice, Help with relationship breakdowns, Faulty goods or poor workmanship and Employment issues. The Service is also authorised to make food bank referrals.
We found out about the Ramsey Branch - where it all began - speaking with Chairperson Jill Windsor and Organiser Francis Masserick who work for the Charity.

Actor John Rhys-Davies reading Katherine Crowe's magical children's story 'Denzil The Mouse'. The recording has been rediscovered and remastered - with a little added musical ambience - by Christy DeHaven to play out as part of our special Christmas programming.
Katherine is pictured in Hospice Isle of Man in 2014, with John at her side. He visited Kath along with Christy and Dave Armstrong - from DAM Productions Isle of Man - so they could play her the recording made at the Douglas based studio.
The characters in the book were designed by Katherine's children, then illustrated by Jacqui Mulvagh and the book was originally released to help raise funds for Hospice. Remaining copies are now available at Smelliz in the old bank building in Castletown, Cranky's Coffee IOM in Peel and Arty Barista opposite the Manx Arms in Onchan (where you could meet Jacqui Mulvagh - Illustration & Design in person!)
Cori Philips is a key figure in the recently revived 'The White Boys', a traditional and uniquely Manx play that is performed around the Island's streets by two troupes of players every Christmas. She tells us about her part in it and gives us a flavour of the piece, with a stirring rendition of her own death scene, no less! Alison Schreiber teaches French and Spanish at King Williams College. Leading up to the 100 year commemoration of Armistice in 2018, she also researched the 139 World War 1 casualties from the college, and organised the Centenary Celebrations - which involved a very special photographic tribute in the Chapel. Beth and Christy caught up with her in the college grounds to find out more.

Today, something a little different. Some of you may already know the name Lale Sokolov. The remarkable story of his time in Auschwitz has become a best selling book after an encounter with screenwriter Heather Morris led to the formation of a very important friendship. Lale was largely responsible for creating the most iconic, identifying feature of the Holocaust- the blue numbers that he was made to tattoo onto fellow prisoners' arms. What makes this story so memorable is his incredible zest for life – and the love story that developed against all odds, one that became a romance surviving for 60 years, decades after the camps closed.
Difficult though the story is, it is a story of hope and of courage. Christy DeHaven spoke with Heather to find out more about Lale and how she came to write the extraordinary book.

Today a fascinating conversation with the Chairman of the Isle of Man Royal Naval Association, Mr Tom Quirk, recorded in 2018. We hear a great deal about the 1st and 2nd World Wars but one war – at the time referred to by those involved as the 3rd World War – isn’t often talked about. Tom served in the Navy in the 1950s in this war, the Korean War, and he told Christy DeHaven all about his experiences.
In 2018, while making a series of programmes to mark 100 years since the end of WW1, Christy was fortunate to meet with two members of a local family, mother and daughter Fransis Hinds and Gill Qualtrough, who represented generations in service – fathers, brothers, grandfathers – along with Fransis herself.
This is a chance to listen to the full interview with the two women, which was created as part of a series made in recognition of the sacrifice and service of those who fought in the wars – from first hand experiences, to family members relating the often very emotional stories of their loved ones.
Sadly, Fransis (nee Dobson), passed away during the Covid lockdown, so it is especially poignant to hear her recounting her memories again - from early years living at Groudle with no running water or electricity to the adventure she embarked on, as she saw the Forces as an opportunity to expand her life experience, eventually becoming a clerk and decoder in the Second World War.
As was often the case at this time, many members of the family, Fransis' father, uncles, brothers and more, had been caught up in some of the biggest battles of both conflicts. With a little help from her daughter Gill, we pieced together some of their story - one that they’re still learning about themselves.
In a message sent to us today - Remembrance Day 2022 - Gill shared that her mum "...only mentioned not long before she was taken ill that she had been working out enemy codes during her war service" adding rather beautifully "this probably explains why she was so good working out magazine puzzles every week!"

Back in 2019, Christy caught up with with Dame Deborah James, aka 'Bowel Babe', to talk about her podcast ‘You me and the Big C’ and also about one of the many campaigns she was running – this time encouraging people to leave legacies in their wills.
Despite the fact she was talking about what are clearly very serious topics, she remained infectiously upbeat, enthusiastic and hopeful. We are re-sharing the conversation today in light of the sad news that Dame Deborah died yesterday, in part to help inspire and educate with her words, which are especially poignant today.
She also launched a new fund - Bowelbabe - to raise money for research into personalised medicine for cancer patients. Jackie Horne can often be seen 'popping up' at various arts, crafts and producer markets around the Island with her home made Chai. When fellow artisans told her they were keen to find a new space to market their diverse and international goods, she came up with a solution - the 'Down North' monthly artisan market, which starts this Sunday outside Ramsey Courthouse. Kate Bergquist is just one of those people who makes you want to get up out of your chair, get outside and DO things...which makes sense when you find out that in her day job, she has the fabulous title of Walking Product Champion for Visit IOM.
She’s also part of the Isle of Man Ramblers Association and in that role, has recently noticed a huge upturn in interest from young people on the Isle of Man who want to get out and walk. So this inspired her to create a Young Ramblers Group, for walkers both on and off Island. Christy caught up with her to find out more.
