You're not alone.
In this episode of The Lone Road iRacing Podcast, Guy Robertson explores one of the most common but least talked about challenges in sim racing: the fear of racing online.
Inspired by a heartfelt email from listener Martin, we discuss why so many iRacers struggle with confidence, even when they have the pace, and why practising against AI can only take you so far.
Whether you're new to iRacing, returning after time away, or simply lacking confidence to race wheel-to-wheel, this episode is packed with practical advice to help you overcome the mental barriers holding you back.
In this episode:
• Why online racing can feel intimidating
• AI racing vs real online competition
• Building confidence behind the wheel
• Developing racecraft in official races
• Learning from mistakes without fear
• The confidence trap that keeps drivers in Test Drive
• Why every experienced iRacer once felt exactly the same

Has iRacing finally become too expensive?
For the first time in years, iRacing has announced an increase in subscription prices, sparking passionate debate throughout the sim racing community. Is the increase justified? Does iRacing still represent good value compared to other racing simulators and subscription-based games? Or is the cost of entry becoming too much for new drivers?
In this week's episode of The Lone Road iRacing Podcast, Guy Robertson takes a balanced look at one of the biggest talking points in sim racing, exploring both sides of the debate without the social media shouting.
This week's topics include:
🏁 iRacing's latest subscription price increase
🏁 Price vs Value - are they the same thing?
🏁 Comparing iRacing to Assetto Corsa, ACC, RaceRoom and other simulators
🏁 How does iRacing compare to subscription services like Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation Plus and World of Warcraft?
🏁 Is the hobby becoming too expensive for new drivers?
🏁 What are we actually paying for?
PLUS...
🎙️ The iRacing Agony Uncle
Listener Steve asks why his GT4 Porsche loses grip towards the end of races.
Is he destroying his tyres early?
How do the fastest drivers manage tyre wear?
And why is tyre management really about driving style rather than simply driving slower?
Whether you're a brand-new iRacer or a long-time veteran, there's something in this episode for everyone.
💬 Question of the Week
Has the subscription price increase changed your opinion of iRacing?
Do you still think it offers good value?

What does it really take to build and lead an iRacing community?
In this special interview episode of The Lone Road iRacing Podcast, I sit down with James from JP Broadcasting for one of the most open and honest conversations we've ever had on the show.
We discuss the reality of running leagues, broadcasting live iRacing events, building a thriving Discord community, dealing with criticism, staff moving on, driver cliques, loyalty, leadership and the mental toll that can come from trying to keep everyone happy.
Most of us simply join a race and enjoy the experience. But behind every successful community are people investing countless hours to keep it all running.
Whether you're a league owner, broadcaster, content creator, Discord moderator or simply passionate about sim racing, this conversation offers a fascinating insight into the challenges that often go unseen.
This isn't just a conversation about iRacing.
It's a conversation about leadership, resilience and remembering why we started in the first place.

This week on The Lone Road iRacing Podcast, we tackle one of the biggest missing skills in the entire service:
Why iRacers can’t race in traffic.
Most drivers can hotlap. Most drivers can qualify.
But the moment a race becomes side-by-side, nose-to-tail, or Lap 1 chaos in a big field… everything falls apart.
Using this week’s Ringmeister series and the hidden Legacy gem — the Legacy Mazda Pro — we break down why traffic causes so many crashes, why the mindset of drivers becomes dangerous, and how YOU can become one of the rare iRacers who gains positions simply by staying calm and making smart decisions.
In this episode you’ll learn:
Because here’s the truth:
You don’t lose iRating because you’re slow… you lose it because you can’t drive near people.

What happens when a race removes every safety net?
No pit strategy.
No tyre games.
No short laps to reset your focus.
This week on The Lone Road iRacing Podcast, we break down what I’m calling the iRacing Iron Man Event — the Ray FF1600 taking on the Nürburgring Combined Gesamtstrecke Long.
Nearly ten minutes per lap.
Three laps per race.
Over 500 corners negotiated without pause.
This isn’t about raw pace — it’s about mental resilience, discipline, and sustained focus.
In this episode, we explore:
If you’re stuck in an iRating plateau, struggling with consistency, or looking for a race that genuinely forces growth — this episode is for you.

Week 2 of Season 1, 2026 has exposed a growing problem in iRacing — missing fundamentals.
After racing FIA F4 at the Adelaide Street Circuit this week, one thing has become clear: this isn’t just early-season chaos. It’s a systemic issue rooted in how Rookie class prepares new iRacers for real racing conditions.
In this episode of The Lone Road iRacing Podcast, Guy Robertson breaks down:
This episode isn’t about blaming rookies — it’s about improving race quality, protecting Safety Rating, and building better racers from the ground up.
If you’ve lost iRating, been caught up in unnecessary incidents, or wondered why race standards feel worse each season, this one’s for you.

Race strategy isn’t about pit stops — it’s about patience.
This week on The Lone Road iRacing Podcast, we dive deep into race strategy across short tracks, normal road circuits, and long-form monsters like the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Using a real-world example from this week’s MX-5 races at the Nordschleife, we break down why so many races are effectively lost on Lap 1 — and how restraint, risk management, and emotional control can quietly gain you double-digit positions without a single overtake.
In this episode, we cover:

Whether you're a seasoned iRacer or fresh on your license, these corners demand your respect—and today, you’ll learn how to earn theirs.
But that’s not all. In the second half of today’s episode, we head over to California to visit a track that’s short in distance but big in personality—Laguna Seca. We’ll explore the history of this legendary circuit, how the world-famous Corkscrew came to be, and how to master it in your sim rig.

Not every race is won with horsepower. Sometimes, it's your mind that wins it for you. In this episode of the Lone Road iRacers Podcast, we’re diving into a series that’s become my proving ground: the Production Car Challenge. Driving the Mazda MX-5 Cup this season, I’ve gained over 300 iRating, not by being the fastest, but by staying smart—and staying clean. But just when I thought I had it mastered, iRacing threw in a curveball: rain. Late-race showers, shifting grip, and chaos in every corner. Let’s break down why this combination of momentum racing and unpredictable weather is one of the best experiences iRacing has to offer.
Our second subject on todays podcast, we’re taking a deep dive into one of the most extreme, misunderstood, and underutilized combinations in sim racing: Monza with the Oval configuration. It’s fast, it’s furious, and it’s a time capsule of motorsport history that most drivers skip over without ever giving it a second thought. But why does Monza have an oval at all? And how does it fit with the more commonly used GP layout? Today, we’re diving into the legacy of this legendary hybrid track and what makes it so brutally challenging in iRacing.

Welcome back to The Lone Road iRacers Podcast! I’m your host Guy Robertson, and today we’re diving deep into a track and car combo that just might be the holy grail for rookie drivers or anyone struggling with consistency on iRacing. We’re talking about the Ray FF1600 and Oran Park Raceway.
Now, if you’ve ever found yourself spinning your wheels—literally and metaphorically—while trying to stitch together clean, confident laps, this episode is for you. You see, the Ray FF1600 is a low-powered, momentum-based, open-wheel machine that doesn’t mask your mistakes. It magnifies them. And Oran Park? A beloved Australian track that no longer exists in the real world, but is alive and well in our virtual playground. It’s got elevation changes, technical challenges, and corner types that demand precision, patience, and rhythm.
Together, they create the perfect test lab for anyone looking to build bulletproof consistency and refine racecraft. So let’s fire up the sim and get into it, one corner—and one technique—at a time.

Welcome to The Lone Road iRacers Podcast, where the virtual rubber meets the real-world road—and today, we're taking you on a ride that celebrates both cutting-edge performance and Australia’s rising star in motorsport.
In this double-feature episode, we dive into two of the most exciting additions to the iRacing service: The Ferrari 296 GT3 and The Bend Motorsport Park. One is a masterclass in Italian hybrid engineering; the other, a sweeping circuit born in the South Australian outback with global ambitions.
First up, we head Down Under to The Bend Motorsport Park, a track that’s quickly earned a reputation as one of the most dynamic circuits in the world. From its sprawling International layout to the technical East and West circuits, The Bend brings a fresh challenge to sim racers. Long straights, complex braking zones, and fast-flowing sequences—it’s a track that demands respect and rewards precision.
Then the Ferrari 296. It's not just another prancing horse—it’s a revolution on wheels. Ferrari’s first rear-wheel drive hybrid GT car blends a screaming twin-turbo V6 with electric precision, redefining how we think about speed, power, and agility. We’ll explore its road-going roots, the race-spec 296 GT3, and how it stacks up against GT3 mainstays in iRacing. It’s fast, it’s furious, and it’s surprisingly refined. But does it have what it takes to dominate the sim?
Together, these two additions aren’t just content updates—they’re game-changers. Whether you're a GT3 warrior looking for your next ride or an iRacer who loves learning every inch of a new circuit, this episode will have something for you.
So buckle in—because today, we’re merging passion and precision, Maranello and South Australia, horsepower and handling—all on the Lone Road.
Let’s get started.

Welcome to The Lone Road iRacers Podcast. I’m [Your Name], and today, we’re stepping away from our usual breakdowns of track guides, update analyses, and hardware debates. Instead, we’re going to ask a question that hits a little deeper:
Why do we race on iRacing?
At first glance, it’s simple. We race because we love motorsport. But the real answer? It’s layered. Emotional. Personal.
Because if you’ve ever found yourself prepping for a race like it’s a Grand Prix, or felt your heart pound on a quali lap, or replayed a close finish for days… you know this sim is more than just pixels and physics. It’s a part of who we are.
So today, it’s just me and you. Let’s spend the next 40 or so minutes diving deep into what really drives us — mentally, emotionally, and maybe even spiritually — when we hit that race button.
Grab your favourite beverage, settle in, and let’s talk about the reason behind the racing.

Hey everyone, welcome back to The Lone Road iRacers Podcast!
I’m your host, Guy Robertson — and today, we’re digging into one of the biggest truths about iRacing that every sim racer eventually learns:
Winning is hard.
Really hard.
No matter what car, what track, or what series you're in — getting that first-place finish takes a massive amount of work, patience, and, yeah — a little bit of luck too.
In today’s episode, we’re taking a deep dive into two big ideas:
First — why winning in iRacing is so difficult across every discipline.
Whether you’re racing GT cars, stock cars, sprint cars, or rallycross beasts, the challenges are real, and we’re going to talk about what makes the path to victory so demanding.
Then — we’ll go even deeper.
We’re asking the spicy question:
Which iRacing discipline is actually the hardest one to win in?
Is it road racing with its precision demands?
Is it ovals with their insane pack dynamics?
Is it dirt with its wild, ever-changing surfaces?
Or is it something even tougher?
I’ll break down the skill ceilings, the randomness, the racecraft battles, and I'll share which one I personally think takes the crown as the toughest battleground in iRacing.
We’ve also got tips from listeners on how they finally got over the hump and grabbed that first win — and trust me, their advice is gold.
So settle in, strap up, and let's hit the Lone Road —
because today, we’re talking about what it really takes to cross that finish line first.

Welcome back to the Lone Road iRacers Podcast with me your host Guy Robertson.
We have 2 topics on todays podcast:
We're diving into something every iRacer faces sooner or later — losing iRating. Yep, it stings. But here's the good news: it’s not the end of the road — not even close. In fact, it might just be the beginning of a big comeback.
We’re going to talk about why it feels so personal, how it can mess with your head, and — most importantly — how you can turn it all around and get back to loving your time behind the wheel.
We’ll also dive into one of the most overlooked but crucial elements of becoming a faster, more consistent iRacer: effective practice. Not just "turning laps," but practicing with purpose. We'll explore how to build a structured training routine, what elements you should focus on (racecraft, qualifying, setups, mental preparation), how to track your progress, and why the smartest drivers treat practice like serious athletes. Plus, we'll talk about how to avoid burnout and make practice sessions both efficient and fun.

I’m your host, Guy Robertson, and today, we’re tackling one of the most infuriating issues every iRacer faces: the bad rejoin. We’ve all been there—you’re battling for a top position, everything is going perfectly, and then out of nowhere, a backmarker crashes into you because they didn’t rejoin the track safely. But it’s not just about frustration. It’s about how these moments affect your confidence, your racing mentality, and even how you approach future races. So, what can iRacing do to prevent these accidents? And what should the driver who causes the incident do afterward? We’ll explore all of that and more today.
Plus, stick around for a special announcement at the end of the show—we’re planning a live podcast episode to discuss potential solutions with you, the iRacing community. But first, let’s dive into the mental and emotional toll that bad rejoins take on every racer. Let’s get into it.

Welcome back to The Lone Road iRacers Podcast! I’m Guy Robertson, and today, we’re diving into one of North America’s underrated gems—Portland International Raceway. This track might not have the international prestige of Suzuka or Spa, but for those who know, it’s a fantastic venue packed with history, technical challenges, and some intense racing. So, let’s buckle up and hit the virtual asphalt!
Portland International Raceway has been a key venue in American motorsport for decades, but it often flies under the radar. Unlike many historic tracks, it doesn’t boast a long F1 or endurance racing pedigree, but what it does have is a reputation for producing tight, action-packed racing. The mix of high-speed sections and technical corners makes it an excellent proving ground for both real-world and sim racers.
In today’s episode, we’ll break down the history of PIR, the layout, racing strategies, and how to maximize your performance in iRacing. Whether you’re an experienced sim racer or someone looking to expand their track knowledge, this episode will help you appreciate why Portland is such a beloved track in the racing community.

Welcome, race fans and sim enthusiasts, to another episode of The Lone Road iRacers Podcast! I’m your host, Guy Robertson, and today we’re diving headfirst into one of the hottest debates in the world of endurance racing on iRacing. Picture this: two legendary tracks, two 24-hour battles of grit and endurance—the 24 Hours of Daytona versus the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring.
Both of these iconic events are staples in the iRacing calendar, pushing drivers, teams, and even spectators to their absolute limits. Daytona offers the high-speed thrill of oval racing paired with the technical finesse of its infield road course. On the other hand, Nürburgring, lovingly dubbed the 'Green Hell,' is a relentless beast with over 170 corners and weather so unpredictable it could rival Mother Nature herself.
In this episode, we’ll break down what makes each event unique, explore the challenges that test even the most seasoned iRacers, and ask the ultimate question: which is tougher? Whether you’re a Daytona drafting master or a Nürburgring survivor, you’re not going to want to miss this deep dive into endurance racing’s greatest tests. So strap in, fire up your sim rigs, and let’s hit the track!

Welcome back to The Lone Road iRacers Podcast! Today’s episode is packed with two topics that every serious iRacer should know about.
First up, we’re diving into the art of responsible reporting. It’s a fundamental part of the iRacing Sporting Code, but knowing when to report — and when not to — can make all the difference. We’ll talk about why it matters, the impact of under- or over-reporting, and what happens when you become known as a “serial reporter.” If you’ve ever wondered how reporting affects your experience and reputation on iRacing, this is for you.
Then, we’re taking on a thrilling combo lighting up the circuit this week: the FIA Formula 4 on one of the world’s most challenging tracks, Mount Panorama. We’ll dive into why this pairing is so exciting, what unique challenges it presents, and how you can approach Bathurst’s intense layout without ending up in the wall. From high-speed straights to narrow mountain passes, this track demands focus and control — and the F4 car is the perfect match for it.
*Whether you’re here to learn more about maintaining a good reputation or to get insights on conquering Bathurst in an FIA F4, you’re in the right place. Let’s get started with “Mastering the Unforgiving: Reporting Responsibly & Racing the FIA F4 at Bathurst on iRacing.”

We’ll also be discussing the circuits that the iRacing community is longing for, like the tight city streets of the Circuit de Pau, the high-speed straights of Pescara, and the sweeping elevation changes of Kyalami. These iconic tracks bring with them rich motorsport history and unique driving challenges that would push the limits of every iRacer, but for now, they remain missing from the sim.
We’ll break down why these tracks are fan favorites, the challenges they pose, the risks they present, and what new circuits could bring to iRacing. So strap in, because we’re about to hit the virtual asphalt on the world’s most beloved circuits—both in iRacing and the ones we wish were there!"

"It was a typical day at Zandvoort—dull skies, the sun trying to breakthrough, and the track feeling just perfect. Little did I know, Mother Nature had a different plan in store. As I rounded the Arie Luyendyk Bocht, the skies suddenly sprang a leak, and within moments, rain started pouring down. The dry, grippy asphalt I had been racing on transformed into a slick, treacherous surface. My tires were screaming for traction, but i made the split decision to change to wets on the grid!
But that's what makes Zandvoort so special. It's not just the technical sections or the stunning scenery; it's the unpredictability that keeps you coming back for more. You never quite know what to expect, and that makes every lap an adventure.
So, stay tuned as we break down the intricacies of Circuit Zandvoort, and of course, I'll give you all the details on how I managed to navigate that surprise rainstorm.
You're listening to The Lone Road iRacers Podcast. Let's dive in!"
