THEN: The Knicks just won their first championship since 1973, and Game 3 of the Finals pulled 23.79 million viewers, the biggest NBA audience since 2017. Last year's Thunder-Pacers Finals? Angelo, Rhea, and Jay are back and this week Hugh Laurie said the quiet part out loud, and the internet still hasn't recovered. After a freelance critic named Janet Murray posted on X that House has "the same narrative every episode," Laurie responded with a thread so sarcastic it went viral — cataloguing every alternative structure they tried, comparing the formula to Bach and Frida Kahlo, and closing with "I look forward to your first novel." The internet mobbed Murray immediately. But here's the thing: she's not wrong. House is formulaic — that's what procedurals are. Laurie's real defense wasn't "no it isn't." It was that if all you see is the formula, it wasn't meant for you. Is that the most honest thing a creator has ever said in public about their own work, or is it exactly what every creator thinks and should never, ever say out loud?
THEN: Spielberg's Disclosure Day opens Friday. Reviews are calling it his best film in 20 years, with box office projections between $35 and $59 million. For Spielberg. Three of his last five films lost money (West Side Story, The Fabelmans, The BFG) roughly $380 million in losses combined. The Fabelmans is one of the best films of the decade and grossed $25 million total. Is Spielberg the most underrated working director in Hollywood right now?

Disney has been flooding its streaming service with Star Wars for years, and audiences have simply burned out: are streamers so desperate for content that they're systematically dismantling every billion-dollar movie brand Hollywood has left? And does anyone actually watch the shows they get in return?
THEN: Stephen Colbert's final episode airs May 21 and Kimmel, Fallon, Meyers, Oliver are rallying around him. It's genuinely touching. But it also made Jay think about Leno and Letterman (who loathed each other) and Carson freezing Joan Rivers out for life after she dared to get her own show. The whole industry is so aggressively supportive of each other now: is that warmth actually good for culture, or did we lose something real when TV rivalries died?

Despite filming not finished, Christopher Nolan’s new movie, The Odyssey, has already has begun selling out in IMAX theaters across the country. This leads us into a short discussion on whether the screen size affects our movie going experiences. Are movies being made today even worth seeing in bigger screens, such as IMAX? - Superman was only actually beaten up once by ultraman a complete copy of Superman powers and all being completely controlled by lex Luther, and he only actually lost to him once in the very beginning.
- If you actually go to the movies just to see the hero beat the villain with no consequences and come out unscathed than your just a boring person
- Robots have been in the fortress of solitude since the 60s taking care of Superman if ever needed and they literally say in the beginning of the movie that ultraman was the first person to ever beat Superman in his 3 years of being a hero
- Krypto the superdog has been in the comics since DC comics adventure comics issue #210 which was released march 1955
- Krypto has been in 7 feature films, 9+ TV shows, and several cameos/shorts
- The only other person to put Superman in a bit of trouble was an army of flying soldiers who got him close to being eaten by a black hole just by pretty much going limp and dragging him down, this was only because he was in a different dimension where the sun didn’t exist and if anyone actually knows Superman knows that he gets his power from the sun so that means no sun, no Superman
- Lex Luther has always been crazy and he’s also the one who pretty much started the war just because he wanted to have a reason to kill Superman, do you really want lex to be boring and just try to kill him? He is supposed to be one of the smartest men alive, I would be disappointed he didn’t have a multi layered scheme
- The only thing Mr terrific and Lois actually do is show Superman where the exit is the only actual physical combat Mr terrific did was punch a bunch of goons outside the portal
- Lois and the others in the space ship didn’t actually do a single thing to help in the moment they literally just watched the fight while writing an article about lex being a bad guy
- Superman’s “hero friends” didn’t really help him that much like green lantern and hawkgirl helped stop the war in the Middle East while Superman was dealing with the world cracking open in metropolis
- The dog literally just ate a bunch of cameras that lex was using to pretty much control the evil Superman that’s all he actually did
- How was Lois a bigger hero she literally just wrote a paper about lex which jimmy olsen actually wrote more of honestly, so if he wants to say that Lois was a bigger hero than you can pretty much

Then, the gang discuss the new documentary on Netflix, Dirty Pop, which tells the story of Lou Perlman and the boy bands that he discovered and helped blossom into stardom. At issue is the documentary's controversial use of an AI-generated Perlman programmed to look and sound exactly like the real one, reciting Perlman's own words from his autobiography. Is this an acceptable use of technology? Or is it another sign that we're headed even further into a world where you can't even trust your eyes.
