In many urban schools across the country, you will find the primary audience to be minorities while the primary authority are white administrators and educators. Dear White Teacher is a podcast and platform designed to shed light on the struggles and to discuss strategies to build lasting relationships with students of color in order to teach them successfully. This podcast is for anyone that finds it challenging creating connections in the classroom but specifically focusing on providing a safe space for educators who may need assistance doing so!
In one of my most memorable conversations to date, Gabe (our videographer) and I sat down and I got to share my journey, my heart, my vision and things I allowed fear to scare me out of doing. Not going to lie, it's a long episode, but it's a rich conversation.

Kelley Williams Bolar made national headlines in 2011 for "district jumping" meaning she enrolled her daughters in a school district in which she did not live. This led to her been indicted and ultimately serving nine days in jail for a number of charges. Take a listen to her story and how it unfolded!

The Village at Dreams Academy is a community for single mothers who are raising black boys under 18. We had a virtual meeting with our friend Kenny "JoJo" Smith, a former guest on the DWT podcast to discuss Black Boys in the classroom. It is good to be back! Welcome to our first episode of 2024! I had the awesome opportunity to visit the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia and I am sharing with you a few takeaways of the session I attended called Reaching and Teaching Boys. Dreams Academy is our organization that works with African American males ages 10 to 15 and so I thought it advantageous to attend this session to learn, to be inspired, and to even have some messages reinforced that I could bring home and also share with you. During my time at Purdue University, I got to sit down with Brittne Paramore who is the Director of Student Success and Global Engagement there at the school. Meet one of Akron's finest teacher, Ms. Monique Swain. Ms. Swain is the Teacher of the Year at Lebron James I Promise School AND was in the top 8 finalist for teacher of the year at the district level, while only being in the district for 2 years! Amazing, right?

Meet Kenneth "JoJo" Smith, veteran educator known for his relationship strategies in working with youth who have been labeled. His approach to finding common ground with his students included removing those labels and seeing his students for who they are first, which allowed him to form a best practice to teach them at a high level. These relationships allowed him to find out who stole my car one day....you don't want to miss this one.
