Amazingly, this story was considered so vivid at the time that the Nicaraguan government, which was where the story was based, lodged a protest.

The Fat Man | The Black Angel

Story: Brad is hired by a man to find out why his wife is meeting with another man.
Most of the U.S. productions are no longer in circulation, but many of the Australian episodes still exist. The Fat Man was produced on Australian radio from September 1954 to 1955 for 55 episodes. With the Brad Runyon role played by actor Lloyd Berrell (b. 02/1926 – d. 12/1957).
The Fat Man was credited to Dashiell Hammett (b. 1894 - d. 01/1961), author of The Thin Man.
The U.S. version (1946-1951) was broadcast from WJZ studios in Newark, New Jersey, and syndicated on the ABC Radio Network.

Plot: A dying prison inmate puts Johnny on the trail of stolen loot. Father Taggart calls Johnny from Sing Sing. An old time conman and drifter called Michael Cairn, one of the inmates at the prison, wants to see Johnny urgently, but Johnny is not eager to go to New York. Cairn was locked up for an insurance fraud a couple of years earlier and Johnny is keen to find out why he wants to see him when it was Dollar who got him locked up in the first place.

The Man Called X was broadcast on CBS Radio and NBC Radio from July 10, 1944, to May 20, 1952.
The Fat Man makes this weeks post with their drama, Murder Wins the Draw. This episode is believed to have aired, April 1, 1949. "Believed" because it's very difficult to find matching air dates for The Fat Man.
Most of the U.S. productions are no longer in circulation, but many of the Australian episodes still exist. The Fat Man was produced on Australian radio from September 1954 to 1955 for 55 episodes. With the Brad Runyon role played by actor Lloyd Berrell (b. 02/1926 – d. 12/1957).
The Fat Man was credited to Dashiell Hammett (b. 1894 - d. 01/1961), author of The Thin Man.
The U.S. version (1946-1951) was broadcast from WJZ studios in Newark, New Jersey, and syndicated on the ABC Radio Network.

Sandra is willing to do anything to get rid of her. Then it will be just her and dear daddy again. The Mysterious Traveler was a radio program, comic book, and magazine. The radio series aired on the Mutual Broadcasting System from December 1943 to September 1952. The popular introduction was voiced by Maurice Tarplin.

The Fat Man makes this weeks post with their drama, Murder Plays the Horses. In the podcast audio I said no dates were available, but later found more info with dates. This episode aired on Australian radio, August 26, 1954. Most of the U.S. productions are no longer in circulation, but many of the Australian episodes still exist. The Fat Man was produced on Australian radio from September 1954 to 1955 for 55 episodes. With the Brad Runyon role played by actor Lloyd Berrell (b. 02/1926 – d. 12/1957). The Fat Man was credited to Dashiell Hammett (b. 1894 - d. 01/1961), author of The Thin Man. The U.S. version (1946-1951) was broadcast from WJZ studios in Newark, New Jersey, and syndicated on the ABC Radio Network.

This week's drama is from Suspense, titled Wet Saturday. This episode aired June 24, 1942. Based on the short story of the same name by John Collier, which was first published in The New Yorker in 1938. The Suspense radio production has a modified ending from the original story. Wet Saturday was also adapted for television by Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1956) and the British television series Tales of the Unexpected (1984). Suspense was broadcast on CBS Radio from 1940 through 1962.

Bob Bailey stars in Let George Do It with their first published episode, The First Client. The first few episodes had more of a comedic feel, until later when the decided to focus on more true detective crime stories. This episode aired September 20, 1946. Bob Bailey was a popular radio and occasional film actor, probably best known for this lead role in the Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar radio program. Unfortunately, Mr. Bailey suffered from alcoholism for a while until he finally overcame it to become sober and an alcoholism counselor. He died at age 70 in 1983 in a Southern California convalescent home after suffering a stroke 10 years earlier.

This weeks episode is the Crime Classics presentation, The Shockingly Peaceful Passing of Thomas Edwin Bartlet - Green Grocer. This episode aired June 22, 1953, on the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service (AFRTS). Thomas Edwin Bartlett, was allegedly poisoned by his wife, Adelaide Blanche Bartlett, in the Pimlico district of London. A fatal quantity of chloroform was found in Mr Bartlett's stomach, despite having not caused any damage to his throat or windpipe, and no evidence of how it got there. Adelaide Bartlett was tried and acquitted for her husband's murder. By the jury's own statement in court Mrs Bartlett's acquittal was partly secured because the prosecution could not prove how Mrs Bartlett could have committed the crime. Welcome to the first installment of my “Mystery x Suspense" channel... we will start with the first episode from the Escape program. Escape was an adventure and suspense series that ran for seven years; from July 1947 to September 1954 on CBS radio. The series was originally titled “Out of this World,” then later changed to Escape before launching. This initial episode is an audition recording for the actors and crew in preparation for the show’s launch several months later. Features the comic legend Art Carney who became a huge star from the series The Honeymooners with Jackie Gleason. I don’t think there is an official title for this episode, but it goes by “Out Of This World,” about a ventriloquist and his dummy, Toby. Murder ensues, but was it by the ventriloquist or Toby? This story is taken from the 1945 British anthology horror movie, ‘Dead of Night.’ I’ve never seen the movie, but after hearing this story, now I want to see the film to see how it measures up.
