I invite you to join me for a few moments to breathe, take in Scripture, and take away a few thoughts to ponder throughout your day.

What if the very thing you've been rushing past is the key to a deeper relationship with God?
Many believers celebrate God's grace but rarely pause to honestly examine their own hearts. This episode explores why slowing down before God can transform your faith instead of leaving you stuck in the same spiritual patterns.

Drawing on the imagery of trees and their root systems, we explore how our spiritual roots in Christ determine our strength, stability, and fruitfulness in every season of life.
• Like trees that bear fruit in their season, our spiritual lives depend on unseen roots that draw strength from Christ
• Paul warns against distractions and human logic that pull us away from the fullness found only in Christ
• Our completeness comes from Christ alone—no person or achievement can truly complete us
• Through baptism and faith, we are united with Christ in his death and resurrection, becoming new creations
• Christ's apparent defeat on the cross was actually his triumph over all powers of darkness
• Our identity is not defined by our accomplishments or failures, but by the One who lives within us
• Growing deep spiritual roots requires continual absorption of God's truth and devotion to him

The Old Testament serves as a divine mystery thriller where God dropped clues about reconciliation with Him through a coming Messiah. In the ultimate plot twist, Jesus—not the expected political warrior-king but a shepherd-rabbi-savior—was revealed as the answer, with His indwelling presence being the great mystery now unveiled for all believers.
• The mystery of how sinful humans can reconcile with a perfect God is solved through Jesus
• Paul celebrates the struggles believers face as opportunities for spiritual growth
• The indwelling of Christ is described as a "heavenly treasure chest of hope"
• Christ's presence within us gives access to God's wisdom and knowledge
• Understanding God's truth helps believers recognize deceptive arguments
• Paul's purpose is that believers be encouraged, united in love, and have full understanding
• Knowing Christ is having access to all treasures of wisdom and knowledge
"I pray, as Paul did in verse 28 of chapter 1, may your heart awaken to his truth for you. May you all grow in the desire to understand your salvation in Christ and live into the truth."

Poetry reveals what's between the lines, and the poetic verses in Colossians 1 help us remember the wonder of God, pointing us toward the supremacy and centrality of Jesus as the divine portrait of the invisible God.
• Jesus is the "divine portrait" (eikon) of the invisible God, countering Gnostic teachings
• Christ created all things, holds all things together, and reconnects us to God
• Through Jesus, God sees believers as "holy, flawless, and restored"
• Our identity in Christ isn't just about forgiveness but a complete change of status
• The supremacy of Christ means he bridges our old life and new life in him
• Every broken piece of the universe finds proper place and harmony through Christ

Paul's prayer for the Colossian church reveals how God makes us worthy through Christ, not through secret knowledge or spiritual achievement. This episode explores how the early believers were influenced by Gnosticism and other false teachings, and how Paul redirected them to true wisdom found only in relationship with Jesus.
• God's pleasure over our lives makes us reservoirs of wisdom and spiritual understanding
• Paul confronts the Gnostic heresy that valued secret knowledge over relationship with Christ
• The more we know what's true, the easier it is to recognize what's false
• Maturity comes through yielding to God's work in us, not through accumulating more information
• God has already made us worthy to receive His glorious inheritance
• Jesus rescues us completely from darkness and transfers us into His kingdom
• Spiritual growth happens as we endure life's challenges with God's strength

"Do you love me more than these?" The question hangs in the air between Jesus and Peter, standing by a charcoal fire on the shores of Galilee—the same type of fire where Peter had denied his Lord three times. This isn't a coincidence but a divine appointment for healing and restoration.
The final chapter of John serves as a powerful epilogue where loose ends are tied together concluding with Jesus addressing our tendency toward comparison. When Peter asks about John's fate, Jesus redirects: "What is that to you? You follow me!" It's a powerful reminder that we each have our unique journey with Christ.
Take time today to ponder: Where might Jesus be asking you to cast your nets differently? How is he inviting you to bring what you have and join his work?

What does the breeze have in common with our faith? Just as we can feel the wind without seeing it, faith often requires us to trust beyond what our eyes perceive. In this thoughtful exploration of John 20, we journey through the resurrection appearances of Jesus and witness the remarkable transformation of doubt into devotion.
The disciples huddle behind locked doors, fearful and uncertain after Jesus's crucifixion. Suddenly, Jesus stands among them—passing through walls as easily as he overcame death itself. His first words? Not disappointment over their desertion but a gentle "Peace be with you." As he breathes his Spirit upon them, we witness a beautiful parallel to creation itself—God once again breathing life into his people, now for a divine mission of forgiveness and restoration.
Then there's Thomas—honest, grieving, and unable to accept secondhand testimony. His week-long absence might explain his struggle; perhaps he was observing the traditional seven-day Jewish mourning period. When Jesus returns specifically to address Thomas's doubts, inviting him to touch the wounds of crucifixion, we witness one of Scripture's most powerful confessions: "My Lord and my God." This moment perfectly balances Jesus's compassion for our human need for evidence with his blessing on those who will believe without seeing.
John carefully crafted his gospel around seven miraculous signs and seven "I am" statements, each revealing Jesus's divine identity. His purpose remains as relevant today as when first written: "that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name." When doubt creeps in—as it inevitably does—remember that Jesus meets us exactly where we are, with the precise evidence our hearts need. What locked doors in your life need Jesus to pass through today?

The resurrection stands as the pinnacle moment of human history—the ultimate demonstration that darkness can never extinguish light. In this deeply reflective episode, we journey through John's eyewitness account of that first Easter morning, uncovering details that authenticate and illuminate this world-changing event.
We begin where John begins—establishing Jesus as the eternal Word who "became human and made his home among us." This cosmic context sets the stage for understanding why the empty tomb matters so profoundly. As we follow Mary Magdalene's grief-stricken discovery, Peter and John's breathless race to verify her claim, and the fascinating evidence of burial linens left behind, we're confronted with powerful evidence of resurrection rather than grave robbery.
The most moving moment comes when Mary, blinded by tears, fails to recognize Jesus until he speaks her name. This personal encounter reveals how Jesus breaks through our grief and confusion to make himself known. His choice of Mary—a woman with a troubled past—as the first witness and proclaimer of resurrection powerfully demonstrates kingdom values that elevate the marginalized. Most striking is Jesus' new way of referring to his disciples as "brothers," signaling a fundamental shift in relationship made possible through his sacrificial death and triumphant resurrection.
Whether you're a longtime believer or exploring faith for the first time, this exploration of resurrection will help you grasp how Jesus transforms our identity from followers to family members. Join us as we discover what it truly means to be called children of God through the resurrection power that conquered death and offers new life to all who believe.

Jesus's journey to the cross reveals his complete humanity and profound love as he fulfills numerous prophecies through his final moments, culminating in his ultimate sacrifice for humanity's redemption.
• Walking through Jerusalem's streets multiple times during his final 24 hours, Jesus becomes increasingly beaten and weak with each journey
• Jesus's words "I am thirsty" fulfill scripture while revealing both his physical humanity and spiritual thirst for relationship with us
• The Roman soldiers' offer of sour wine on a hyssop branch creates a powerful connection to Passover symbolism
• When Jesus declares "It is finished," he announces the complete fulfillment of his mission to save humanity
• Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, formerly secret disciples, honor Jesus with a royal burial, fulfilling Isaiah's prophecy
• At least 20 Old Testament prophecies are fulfilled during Jesus's final 24 hours
• Though the disciples faced a night of confusion, grief, and fear, Sunday's resurrection was coming
Let's remember that Jesus thirsted for you and me, giving his life so we could have forgiveness and eternal life.

Standing at the foot of Golgotha 40 years ago, I experienced a holy feeling that made Jesus's sacrifice tangible despite being in a modern bus parking lot. Jesus positioned himself at the center—between two criminals, between heaven and hell, between judgment and mercy—showing his role as the bridge between God and humanity.
• Jesus declared as King in three languages on the sign above his cross
• Possible acronym in Hebrew that spelled YHWH (God)
• Women and John able to stand near the cross while other disciples had to flee
• Jesus, despite his suffering, provided for his mother by entrusting her to John
• Mary and John later lived together in Ephesus where they served the church
• Jesus sees us in our darkest moments just as he saw his mother at the cross
• When we feel unseen, we can remember Jesus's deeply compassionate character
Take a moment to ponder: Where do you feel unseen right now? Invite the Holy Spirit to show you where Jesus is waiting to meet you with his compassionate gaze.

What happens when the power of politics collides with religious authority? Jesus's trial before Pilate reveals a pivotal moment where human justice systems falter but divine plans prevail.
Pilate's interrogation of Jesus brings forward the timeless question: "What is truth?" While Pilate views truth as something determined by power and authority, Jesus embodies a truth that "comes from elsewhere but is meant to take up residence in this world," as theologian N.T. Wright eloquently describes. This ancient question resonates with our contemporary discussions of subjective versus objective truth.
Most profound is Jesus's complete sovereignty throughout his trial. What appears to be a tragic miscarriage of justice is revealed as God's redemptive plan unfolding exactly as prophesied centuries earlier. From Isaiah's foretelling of the sacrificial lamb to Jesus's strategic words and silences before his accusers, we witness divine orchestration at work. The religious leaders ultimately declare "we have no king but Caesar," tragically denying their messianic hope to achieve their immediate goal.
This episode challenges us to examine our own lives: Do we, like Pilate, prioritize social acceptance over conviction? Do we recognize God's hand even in apparent injustice? Join us as we ponder how the greatest injustice in human history became the foundation for our redemption.

The pivotal moment in Gethsemane reveals the stunning contrast between Jesus' unwavering resolve and Peter's crumbling courage.
Peter's journey from bold declarations to devastating denial unfolds in the shadows. When surrounded by his community, Peter draws his sword with reckless bravery. Yet when separated and alone in the courtyard, simple questions from servants—not even authorities—cause him to deny his Lord three times. That haunting rooster crow marks both the fulfillment of Jesus' prediction and the beginning of Peter's redemption story.
This passage raises profound questions about our own faith journeys. How often do we minimize our relationship with Christ when it might cost us socially? When asked about our work, do we vaguely mention "working with people" rather than acknowledging our ministry? These small hesitations reveal bigger truths about where our security truly lies.
The most powerful insight may be how community shapes our courage. Peter embodied boldness when standing with fellow disciples but faltered in isolation. This pattern repeats in our lives today—we're stronger together, more vulnerable alone. The spiritual application is clear: surrounding ourselves with faithful companions isn't optional but essential for developing resilience in a world that often challenges our faith.

Have you ever wondered what Jesus prayed about in his final hours? Most of us are familiar with the "Lord's Prayer" from Matthew 6—the model prayer Jesus taught his disciples. But John 17 reveals something far more intimate: Jesus' own heartfelt prayer before his arrest and crucifixion.
This episode delves into this remarkable chapter, examining how Jesus first prays for himself, then for his disciples, and finally—most astonishingly—for you and me. "I'm praying not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me because of them and their witness about me." With these words, Jesus looked across time and held future believers in his heart during his darkest hour.
The central theme of Jesus' prayer is unity—that all his followers would experience the same profound oneness that exists between him and the Father. He prays that we would be "one heart and mind" with God, so mature in this unity that our very lives would become evidence of God's love to a skeptical world. When we personalize these ancient words, inserting our own names into Jesus' prayer, we discover something profoundly moving: we were known, loved, and specifically prayed for by Christ himself two thousand years ago.
Whether you're a lifelong believer or simply curious about what made Jesus' relationship with God so special, this exploration of what could truly be called "The Lord's Prayer" offers fresh perspective on Christ's desires for his followers. Listen and ponder what it means that you were on Jesus' mind and heart as he prepared to face the cross. How might this knowledge transform your understanding of your place in God's family today?

What happens when the faith we've always known suddenly feels uncertain? Whether you call it a crisis of belief or deconstruction, these pivotal moments challenge what we've built our spiritual lives upon. But as we discover in John 16, Jesus anticipated these struggles.
Before His crucifixion, knowing His disciples would soon face their greatest faith crisis, Jesus provided extraordinary promises to carry them through. He revealed that the Holy Spirit's arrival would actually surpass having Jesus physically present—an astounding claim that would only make sense after Pentecost. This same Spirit remains our guide today, leading us into all truth when our questions multiply.
Jesus revolutionized their understanding of divine access, explaining that through Him, they could approach God directly: "The Father himself loves you dearly." No longer would they need intermediaries or special rituals—the extraordinary intimacy Jesus enjoyed with the Father would become available to all who follow Him. This privilege extends to modern believers who sometimes forget the wonder of direct communion with the Creator.
The chapter concludes with Jesus' famous words: "In this world you will have many trials and sorrows, but take heart, because I have overcome the world." His promise wasn't immunity from hardship but rather supernatural peace amid inevitable struggles. When circumstances challenge our beliefs about God—as they inevitably will—Jesus offers not simplistic answers but His presence through the Spirit and assurance of His ultimate victory. Have you experienced this paradoxical peace during your own seasons of questioning? Share your story with our community and discover how others have navigated their faith journeys.

The vineyard stands as one of the Bible's most powerful metaphors, and Jesus masterfully reclaims this symbol in John 15. Walking us through this rich text, we discover how the vine and branches illustrate our spiritual dependence on Christ.
Remember when Jesus declares "I am the true grapevine"? This statement would have been revolutionary to his Jewish audience. The vine had long symbolized Israel—it was on their currency and adorned their temple gates. But Jesus redirects this powerful imagery to himself, establishing a new understanding of spiritual connection.
The pruning process catches our attention. Though painful, this pruning creates space for light and new growth. When we submit to God's pruning, we find ourselves healthier and bearing more fruit.
What does it mean to "remain" or "abide" in Christ? The Greek word "meno" conveys dwelling, continuing, being held continually. This isn't casual connection but profound communion—a life union. Our ability to produce spiritual fruit—love, joy, peace, patience—flows directly from this connection. Without it, Jesus says plainly, "you can do nothing."
Perhaps most beautifully, Jesus elevates his followers from servants to friends. Yet this relationship comes with a warning: just as the world rejected him, it will reject those who faithfully follow him. Are we prepared to stand firm even when it costs us popularity or comfort?
Listen now to discover how remaining connected to the True Vine transforms your daily life and produces fruit that not only changes you but influences everyone around you. Subscribe to continue exploring how ancient wisdom illuminates our modern spiritual journey.

Have you ever wondered why some conversations linger long after the meal ends? Those extra moments around the table often reveal the most profound truths and meaningful connections. In this episode of Moments to Ponder, we explore Jesus's final teachings to His disciples during their last meal together—a conversation filled with promises that still resonate powerfully today.
We unpack Jesus's stunning promise that His followers would do "greater works" than Him—not necessarily more spectacular miracles, but greater in reach and impact. This promise extends to us today, inviting us to participate in kingdom work that surpasses what Jesus accomplished in His physical ministry alone. We also clarify what it means to pray "in Jesus's name"—not as a magic formula for getting what we want, but as an alignment with His character and purposes.
The heart of this episode centers on Jesus's gift of the Holy Spirit—our Advocate, Comforter, Counselor and Guide. Where the disciples had Jesus with them physically, we have something they couldn't yet comprehend: the Spirit dwelling within us. This indwelling presence transforms everything about how we live and love. Perhaps most precious is Jesus's parting gift of peace—not as the world gives, but a supernatural tranquility that transcends circumstances and anchors our souls through any storm.
As you listen, consider which promise speaks most deeply to your current situation. Are you stepping into the "greater works" Jesus promised? Are you experiencing the peace that outshines the world's temporary offerings? The same Spirit who empowered the early church dwells in you, producing fruit that marks you as Christ's own: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Join us as we linger at the table with Jesus and receive the gifts He's offering.

The Upper Room glows with candlelight as Jesus gathers his eleven disciples close, Judas having already departed. What follows is one of the most intimate and profound conversations recorded in Scripture—the farewell discourse that spans several chapters in John.
Jesus begins with a revolutionary command that will become the hallmark of his followers: "Love each other. Just as I have loved you." This isn't merely an echo of ancient law, but a transformation of it. The standard has changed; no longer is it sufficient to love your neighbor as yourself, but to love with the same selfless, humble, foot-washing love that Jesus demonstrated. This love, he tells them, will be the unmistakable evidence of discipleship.
The disciples, however, fixate on something else entirely—Jesus' troubling statement that he's going away. Peter, with characteristic boldness, declares his willingness to die for Jesus, unaware that before sunrise, he'll deny even knowing him. To their anxious hearts, Jesus offers comfort: "Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me." He speaks of his Father's house with many rooms, of preparing a place for them.
When Thomas admits confusion about this path Jesus speaks of, we hear those words that have echoed through centuries: "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." In our pluralistic age, these words often create discomfort. Yet this exclusivity isn't about building walls but opening a door—one that all are invited to walk through.
The farewell discourse invites us to recognize Jesus not merely as a teacher pointing toward truth, but as Truth itself, embodied and accessible. As we journey through this Lenten season, remembering Christ's path toward sacrifice, we're challenged to embrace both the uniqueness of Jesus and his command to love others as he loved us. For in doing so, we not only prove our discipleship but become living signposts to the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Jesus washing his disciples' feet stands as one of the most powerful demonstrations of servant leadership ever recorded. Picture the scene: the disciples arguing over who's greatest while their Master silently rises, takes a towel, and kneels before them to perform a task reserved for the lowest servants.
What makes this moment so profound is that Jesus knows exactly what's coming. He knows his "hour has come." He knows Judas will betray him. Yet he washes every foot in that room—including those that will soon run away from him in his darkest hour, and those that will carry Judas to arrange his arrest.
The disciples' reactions reveal so much about our own struggles with service. Peter refuses initially, finding it too uncomfortable, too humbling to have his Master serve him. Many of us share this discomfort—we'd rather be the ones giving help than receiving it. But Jesus gently teaches that sometimes allowing ourselves to be served requires greater humility than serving others.
When Jesus says, "Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them," he's not establishing a ceremonial ritual. He's calling us to a way of life where we constantly look for opportunities to serve, especially in ways no one else wants to. Those moments when we think "that's beneath me" or "my time is too valuable for that task" are precisely when we most need to grab our towels and kneel.
What "foot washing moment" might God be calling you toward today? Who needs your humble service, even if they can never repay you? Remember that in the kingdom of God, greatness is measured not by how many serve us, but by how willingly we serve others.

What happens when expectations collide with divine purpose? Palm Sunday wasn't just a day of celebration—it was a moment when two kings entered Jerusalem from opposite directions. On one side, Pilate with Roman military might; on the other, Jesus on a humble donkey. The contrast couldn't be more striking.
Through John 12, we journey with Jesus during his final week as tension builds toward the cross. The crowd waves palm branches—not random foliage but potent nationalist symbols—while shouting "Hosanna" (save us). They're looking for liberation from Rome, but Jesus has an entirely different salvation in mind. When he declares "the hour has come," it marks a pivotal shift in his earthly ministry. Through the metaphor of a kernel of wheat that must die to produce many seeds, he reveals the paradoxical nature of his kingdom: true life comes through sacrifice.
The crowds wanted a warrior-king like David; what they got was a homeless rabbi talking about dying to self. Their confusion mirrors our own struggle to accept God's ways when they don't align with our preferences. Do we love human praise more than God's approval? Are we willing to acknowledge Christ publicly? As we ponder Jesus' final public teachings about becoming "children of light," we're challenged to examine where our true allegiances lie. Walk with us through this powerful transition point in Jesus' ministry and discover what it truly means to follow the servant-king. Ready to let his light transform your darkness?

Amid the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, we often find ourselves cherishing the simple joys that Christmas and New Year bring. Join me, Betsy Marvin, as I share tender memories of family gatherings and festive traditions that warm the heart and soul. This episode takes an evocative turn as we journey back in time to the biblical Feast of Tabernacles, exploring its profound significance in John 7. Delve into the rich tapestry of history and faith as we reflect on God’s provision during the Israelites' wilderness journey, and examine how these ancient celebrations can deepen our understanding of personal faith today.

Hear my personal tales of forming a habit of daily water intake and how this routine parallels the need for daily spiritual practices. Inspired by Jesus' teachings on living water, we uncover the importance of scripture reading and prayer as daily sustenance for the soul. Embrace the new year by drawing closer to Jesus, finding an abundant overflow of love, hope, joy, and peace to share with others. We reflect on the distinction between being a fan and being a true follower of Christ, exploring the crowd's shallow desires for miracles versus the depth of faith that Jesus calls us to. Digging into John 6, we discover the significance of Jesus as the bread of life and how our spiritual diets influence our faith journeys.
call to action: "As we celebrate this Advent season, may we look beyond the lights and tinsel to the manger. We can be fans of Christmas, the gifts, and Santa, but may we be true followers of the One who came, the Savior, who calls us to the most incredible meal we could ever imagine."

Ever found yourself endlessly waiting for life to change, only to realize you're tangled in a web of your own expectations? Join me as we reflect on the powerful story from John, chapter five, where Jesus heals a man who had been ill for 38 long years, without needing to be told his struggles. This episode is an invitation for anyone who feels stuck to break free from self-imposed limitations and consider the broader horizons God offers beyond what we can imagine. As we ponder the loaded question Jesus asked, "Would you like to get well?", we find parallels in our own lives and consider how faith can expand our vision beyond the familiar.
Are you fixated on a metaphorical pool, believing it's your only path to progress or healing? In our conversation, we unravel the story of the paralyzed man who found healing through faith in Jesus, not through external aids. As we navigate the ebb and flow of life, how often do we pause to consider the depths of our need for redemption? Join me, Betsy Marvin, on Moments to Ponder and immerse yourself in the profound wisdom of Psalm 103, as seen through the eyes of its author, King David. This episode promises an enriching exploration of human imperfection, forgiveness, and faith. Through David's life story, marked by his own failings and unwavering belief, we uncover the layers of this poetic scripture and its timeless significance. With each word and phrase of the Psalm, feel invited to reflect on your own path, the season of Lent, and the boundless mercy that awaits us.
Embrace the stark realities of our own perceptions of righteousness, which often dim in comparison to the radiant holiness of Jesus. We'll discuss the compelling imagery of a solitary sheep amidst a pristine snowy field, a poignant reminder of our place within God's grand design. The vastness of God's forgiveness, as depicted in Psalm 103, offers solace and a renewed understanding of our own shortcomings. Let's celebrate together the certainty of God's eternal love and mercy, and the pure, forgiven state in which we stand before our loving Father, thanks to the sacrifice of Jesus. This journey through Psalm 103 is an opportunity to fill your heart with gratitude and gain a transformative perspective on His compassionate embrace.

As I stood amidst a crowd of uplifted faces and raised hands, the pure joy of worship was undeniable. It led me to ponder the profound impact of our spiritual practices, which I'm excited to share with you through the timeless words of Psalm 95. Join me on a journey exploring the multifaceted nature of worship—beyond the melodies, it's a physical and spiritual dance with the Divine. We'll uncover the depths of the Hebrew words for worship, revealing a posture of reverence that's as much about listening and obeying as it is about singing praises. This episode is a heartfelt invitation to experience worship that engages every part of your being, urging you to respond to God's call with more than just your voice.
The second half of this episode takes a contemplative turn, examining the stark warning against hard-heartedness found within the same Psalm. It's a call to action, encouraging each of us to live our daily lives as expressions of worship—through obedience, trust, and the recognition of God's omnipotent presence. I invite you to discover the profound implications of kneeling in prayer or lifting your hands in surrender, and how these acts can dramatically shape your spiritual walk. Let's embrace the full spectrum of worship, from the peaks of exuberant praise to the valleys of somber reflection, as we learn to honor God with our entire being.

A year in review. It's what many do as they look back at the past year before they dream of the new. It may not have been a year of highs, but a year of asking how long? Where is God's goodness? Ps. 90 speaks to those feelings in so many of us as we process the past year. But, there is hope and his name is Jesus.

Why do we allow the voices around us to determine our worth? I know they can be loud and convincing but that doesn’t not mean they are true. We want to know we matter, that we have value and we often find ourselves listening to the loudest one.
If you have been struggling with your worth, I get it. I’ve been there and I have stay in God’s Word to remind me who I am and whose I am. I need his Word to drown out the loud voices around me. It’s through His Word that we can push past the limiting beliefs and hear the truth of His love for us, which in turn reminds us of our value, our worth. It’s his love that heals and transforms our broken pieces.

Following Jesus is a choice.
Choosing to life like a Christian is a choice.
Sometime, living like some who follows Jesus requires us to turn from a sinful habit that affects our hearts and minds.

The day that began the week that would change history. A day filled with excitement and parades! The wonder of this story can get lost in the repetition of its tradition - but hold on. Hold on to the wonder of the choices Jesus made, hold on the the Lordship of the One who would give his life. The Jews only became disappointed when Jesus didn't meet their expectations - so they killed him. How do you react when He doesn't meet yours?

What is your response when something happens that you can't understand? For
Zechariah, having a child in his old age was something he couldn't comprehend yet God was at work!
Let's ponder Zechariah's story.
Scripture from The Passion Translation
Music through musicbed by Steven Gutheinz
There are many things that are right or wrong, yet how we respond to them matters. Keeping track of all the rules, making sure others do the same, can be heavy. It does cost something to weigh being loving or unloving response, but it is also freeing.
Let's take a look at Joseph and see how he handles his interesting situation.
Scripture taken from the New Living Translation
Music through musicbed by Stephen Gutheinz
The idea that a group of wealthy men would travel over year to Judea and then a year or more to return home is a mystery in itself, yet there is so much more for us in this part of the Christmas story. There is much we can know about this story, but the meaning behind it brings us so much more.
Join me for a few moments to ponder the Magi at Christmas.
Scripture quoted from The Passion Translation
Music: musicbed - Steven Gutheinz
Mary's willingness to accept God's plan is another mystery of Christmas. She lived into the position God had given her instead of trying to perform her way through. It can be so hard to let go of achievement when it comes to faith, we live in a world that says we have to earn it. But, what if you could learn to live from a position of faith instead of performing as Mary did?
Join me as we ponder Luke 1:26-38.
Scripture take from the The Passion Translation
Music by Steven Gutheinz through musicbed
It can be hard to wrap our minds around the Creator of the Universe choosing to become Immanuel. Coming from above to live below among those He had created is another mystery of Christmas. How do you live within this tension? Have you made God so far above that you can't ever connect with Him?
Join me as we ponder another mystery of Christmas.
Scripture take from the New Living Translation

This season of Moments to Ponder will look at the season of Christmas through the lens of Matthew 11:28-30. How do the words for Jesus connect with us in the holiday season? What can we learn from his teaching on rest, light burdens, and easy yokes? Let's rediscover the wonder and mystery of Jesus coming to earth.

Bible version: New Living Translation
musicbed song: motionless by Steven Gutheinz
As John concludes his letter, he shares a few thoughts on prayer and protection of those who follow Christ. His words are good words for us to ponder today.
Thank you for joining me as we ponder 1 John 5:13-21.
I've never liked the word boundaries until I came to understand it in a biblical context. How can the yoke Jesus offers be light? John gives us insight into this in today's verses.
Join me as we ponder 1 John 5:1-12
There are so many questions in faith; why was I created? How can I know God loves me? In this section of verses, John answers 6 of those questions.
Join me as we ponder, 1 John 4:7-21
John knew that believers would be faced with discerning what to believe about Christ. He could have been writing in this century instead of the 1st. Do you believe everything you hear?
Let's take a few moments to ponder John's teaching on this.
Thanks for joining me.
Loving one another, being known intimately, and prayer are the key topics in these verses. John continues to encourage us to live as follower of Jesus remembering the truth that lives within us.
Whose voice do you listen to? Your own? Someone else? The voice of God?
Let's ponder together...
One of the harder things to wrap our heads around is how loved we are by God and that we are his children. It is a lavish, abundant love that affects how we see ourselves, others, and how we love.
Join me as we look at these words from 1 John and take a moment to ponder.
What does it mean to be anointed? Are you anointed? This can be a confusing concept but is a powerful one. John gives us clarity of what this means and how it affects the lives we live.
Join me as we take a moment to ponder 1 John 2:18-27
Now...breathe, remove distractions, and ponder.
It is so easy to define ourselves by what we do, what we own, or what we achieve. John's words remind us of where our true identity comes from bringing worth and freedom.
Join me as we take a moment to ponder 1 John 2:12-17
Now...breathe, rest, and ponder.
Obedience can be such a hard word, one that can bring a feeling of boundaries we don't want or boundaries we do. Yet, John speaks of how obedience and love are vital in our walk with Jesus.
Join me as we take a moment to ponder 1 John 2:1-11
Now, breathe, rest, and ponder.
