In the midst of a pandemic, the compounding stresses of family life and economic forces drove one husband and father to reevaluate his strategy. In partnership with his wife, he decided to step back from his career and take on the mantle of "Mr. Homemaker." This is their story. Markus wants to help men learn to "MANage their Households" - to embrace their masculinity and better fulfill their responsibilities as husbands and fathers. Kristen hopes you can learn from our experience, gain concrete tips to improve your household operations, and make your home - and therefore your life - healthier, happier, and more harmonious. Let's spend more time enjoying this beautiful life with our families. They share a thesis that as two management professionals, the tools and techniques they use in the workplace should enable them to achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness in their household. Initial topics include daily chores and weekly routines; finances and cashflow; and space, storage, and supply management (i.e. meal planning and grocery shopping).

In a 2006 Professor Matthew Baker of the US Naval Academy and Professor Joyce Jacobsen of Wesleyan University published a paper entitled “Marriage Specialization and the Gender Division of Labor.” In it, they present a mathematical model that explains how Adolescents and Young Adults developing strategies INTENDED to serve in their INDIVIDUAL self-interest end up undermining the benefits of marriage and family life.

About This Episode<
In January 2022, as we began preparing to launch the Mr. Homemaker Podcast, Kristen and I recorded several conversations without a definite sense of if or when we would end up publishing them. Some of that content was used for our Week Zero introduction of "The Road to Mr. Homemaker."
