On June 13, 1997 our world was a very different place. The web was young and free, and artists and musicians like joe Linus aka One-Legged Heart were eager and curious to tap the potential of diy global distribution for their edgy materials.
Already experienced at major studio and home recording, Linus lead a ragtag team of unknown yet talented individuals to produce and record the quirky mandarin/english rap blues song over a weekend at the suburban garage/bedroom studio of David-Simon Baker in Terra Linda, California. Later mixed live at Laughing Tiger Studio in an all day session on the newly installed SSL with Daniel Daniel, Ai De Chir Bang! ( 8+ minutes run time) noted for its lush femme vox choruses provided by local backing singers ( Melanie Reid, Sharon Bjorke and Susan Z) was destined to become an international cult classic, with rare used copies subsequently trading on Amazon for above $100.
Ai launched the first music website for Linus 25 years ago, with a slide show of session photos and a generous song clip provided by Real Player. Soon underground DJ's from all over the world were requesting free copies for underground radio play, which were dutifully sent out post paid. such was the nature of the fleeting moment that changed the course of our lives.
