Welcome to Rising and Shining with Sara J, where I discuss faith + creativity + pursuing a relationship with Christ. Together, we'll rise up and shine to our fullest God-given potential.
On this episode, I talk about something near and dear to my heart: rest. Ever since I can remember, I struggled with believing that if I’m not working, “I am doing nothing.” Constantly, running through my head were the words, “If you’re not working, you’re doing nothing.” These words felt heavy, yet so believable. I would measure days by how productive I was. If I felt like any time was wasted, I’d feel like a failure. I was completely and utterly addicted to productivity. But this lack of resting led to so many issues for me. It made it so much harder for me to communicate, collaborate, and live a healthy lifestyle. It took a toll on my physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Thankfully, through answered prayers, therapy, and good community, I’m finally overcoming the urge to constantly be working and accomplishing something significant. Now, I would argue that sometimes resting is the most productive thing we can do, and it’s something that God designed us to do! Listen to this episodes for tips and tricks for resting well.

Are you curious about God but aren’t sure if you need Him? At one time, I had no idea where to start when it came to having an active spiritual life. It all felt so vague, and I’m a girl who likes concrete steps! While our relationships with God are extremely personal, I believe that there are certain things that we can implement that can help us draw close to Him. In this podcast episode, I outline six steps that may help guide you in growing in your relationship with God, such as prayer, gratitude, obedience, reading the word, and more!
