We all knew that this cyclone was near our island and had a big risk of hitting us…but no one from the governing body warned the population!
Thank god schools were closed and all kids were at home, but the working population were all at work this morning.
Around 9.30am things started to get bad and turned into worst hours later.
I managed to get back home but went through difficulties on the road.
Check out some videos I took while coming back home from work and also the cyclonic weather at my place.
I will write a post just after with some photos around the country.
We still have a hard night to pass through until the cyclone moves away from Mauritius.

Nature…Flowers…Bees!!! Here I am full into the world I love being in…amazing work of nature!
This was a month back when the cherry tree was flowering!!!
And today while I post this video, we are left with only couple of cherries on the tree and then the season will be over!!!

This is one of my favorite place to drive on the island...
The beauty around changes all year round...specially when all the trees are blooming, it is something magical to see!
I went to Mahebourg today and made a small video of the road leading to Mahebourg from the Airport! Please note that we are actually in winter time here in Mauritius with day temperatures varying between 18 to 23 degrees Celcius while at night we are getting lows of 14-15 degrees Celcius.

I wanted to make this video since long to show you this amazing place located in the South Eastern part of Mauritius!
Mahebourg Waterfront
I travel over there at least once a week and I usually take a lot of photos which I share on my blogs...
But this time, I made a small video where you will get to see it raw...
Mahebourg Waterfront has been built like 15yrs ago and is a nice place to sit with the family while enjoying the location while the kids can play around too.
My main focus in the video is that monument found over there which was built in memory of French and English sailors who lost lives during a battle at sea...
Ps. It was a sunny but super windy day yesterday!

Yes, it is store bought but really very delicious!
One of my favorite actually and it is scented with coconut! I made my daughter to taste it and she loved it too!

Last evening I went to fish and caught quite a lot of octopus...
Octopus curry is among my all time favorite food by the way!
When I reached home, I lightly wash the octopuses and put some on a plate to take some photos...
And look what I noticed : The octopuses were changing colors...
From what I read and learn...they change colors to a darker one for different reasons :
- To scare away light colored animals.
- To grow bigger in size.
- For camouflage...they can have the same colors of rocks, sand and corals.
- When they feel in danger.
Octopus is really so fascinating and delicious too! Lol!

On one of my fishing evening for this year, we caught some octopuses when we had low tides.
When I came back home, 2-3 hours after catching them, I saw that they were still alive and I put 3 of them on a plate to enjoy the beauty of nature!
I love eating octopuses in different ways/recipes, what about you?!?!

The work of nature is simply amazing...
Couple of days back, I noticed this wasp on a flower plant where it seemed to be looking to build its nest at the perfect location!
Normally, wasps build their nest under leaves...for maximum protection from weather, humans and other Predators!

Have you ever experienced a cyclone!?!
Do you know how the weather looks like during the passing of a cyclone!?!
I filmed this short video from inside my house...and this is just the beginning!!!
Right now we are having wind gusts of over 100kms per hour and it is expected to get worst during the day.
Trees are falling down...electricity and internet cables too are affected...rivers are flooded, seas are rough with waves over 10 meters high...
The cyclone should normally move away from us as from tonight...but again all depends on its movement..

We were expecting it since days now...Batsirai is the cyclone in our region these days!
I screen recorded the projected path from the Windy App for you to get an idea of how close the cyclone will pass near Mauritius!
It will be between 100 and 200 kms from our coast...apparently enough for us to feel winds, rains and gusts which can reach 170 Kms/h!
At my place right now, we are already getting violent winds and gusts...but no rain for the time being. But a lot will fall the next few days...we can escape this work of nature!

The last real cyclone I still remember was exactly 28 years back...in 1994 with cyclone Hollanda - I was a kid at that time. This cyclone made so much damage to our island.

For our first trip to the sea for 2022, my niece showed us the way to a place completely new to all of us!
Getting to Senneville waterfalls and sea...hmmm is not that easy! And this is why, the place is very less frequented by people, which is great for adventurers like me!

Last Friday, we got back to work after some days off!
And for our return, we had a table of 5 guests for diner. The man is a good friend and a foodie too!

Check out how the bees are working hard for us...humans to get delicious fruits to enjoy!
Oh yes...bees are so important to fruit trees as well as many vegetable plants for them to give us fruits and veggies to consume!
So better protect them if we don't want to have fruits/veggies shortages in the future...in fact we already are having some shortages all around the world and if the bees population keep on decreasing, things will be very bad!

Oh yes...once we are having some delicious tropical fruits getting ready for us to enjoy...We also have the BATS coming over to feast on them before us!!!
While driving in the upper regions of the island (Town of Vacoas), I noticed thousands of bats flying over fruit trees! I just took my phone and filmed the action!
You can imagine the amount of fruits they will be eating daily...this is actually a big problems for farmers each and every year!
It will be a big loss for them...but that's life...this is nature's work!!!
The fruits in danger are : Mangoes/Litchis/Starfruits/Cherimoya among many others!!!

Everytime our Cherimoya tree is in flowers and when we will soon start getting some delicious fruits...we have wasps inviting themselves to build their nest on the tree!!!
Some days back while checking on the progress of the cherimoya flowers...I caught this beautiful wasp building its nest...
Maybe they know that soon the fruits will be ready...so they prefer to live nearby to enjoy these fruits too!!! Maybe...
Did you know that wasps build their nest with chewed wood pulp and its saliva!?

These days it is getting warmer...and it looks like December/January/February will be very hot here in Mauritius!
We usually have about 6 to 7 months of summer...meaning we are actually at the beginning of summer 2021! And it started amazingly well for me and my family, after such a long time!
With Covid19 + winter months + lockdown etc...now we are little more free to move around with restrictions being lifted off. But still we need to continue to keep safe.
Last week we had 3 public holidays and with the weekend it was in fact a super long weekend for all the Mauritians!
I also took advantage of this long holiday to go out with the family and have some fun!
We went out twice at 2 wonderful places...
Mon Choisy Beach First was spending a day till late evening at the public beach of Mon Choisy which is found on the Northern part of the island!
Ps. We ordered pizzas and KFC for diner on the beach, we were around 30 people!
Bras D'Eau National Park And the second outing was visiting Bras D'eau and have a fun nature walk...

Since March 2020...thanks to Covid19, seeing an Airplane in the Mauritian sky became something rare!!!
I even don't remember when was the last time I saw one flying!
Last week when I went in the Southern part of Mauritius, near the airport - I was lucky enough to be at the right place and at the right time...
I just parked on the road side and filmed!
ps. Mauritius is back opened to all travelers since October 1st!

This was a real surprise indeed...
Little did I know what my family prepared for me on my birthday...I went to work as normal and once I entered my restaurant I saw that they have organized a party for me!
On that same day/date is the birthday of my brother in law too, so we had 2 birthday parties on the same day!
Lots of foods were there for my close family - Fried noodles, tajines, sweets, cakes etc...
The video is shot by my nephew and in this video you will find all my sisters, brother in laws, mom,...all closed ones!
Lovely day spent, the smiles on everyone's face will give you an idea of how nice that day was!
