This is the official podcast of Lodestone Training and Consulting. Our instructors have varying backgrounds in US Army Special Forces, SWAT, and competition shooting. LTAC’s instructors have taught hundreds of classes, with thousands of students both inside and outside of the United States of America. Our cadre, in various roles, have taught Law Enforcement, Federal agents, US Military, foreign military and most importantly, good citizens of this country. Few things are more rewarding than teaching a parent how to better protect their family. We share as much knowledge and experience as this format allows.
Jared and Kirk get together before a recent LTAC Tuesday. They talk about Lodestone's participation in the East Coast Night Shoot. That was a good time! They also hit on the upcoming Shotgun course, and the Tactical Medical course being held at the end on November. They talk about the upcoming Pistol-Caliber Carbine class in 2026 and the Response to an Organized Attack conference on Jan. 3rd.

Lodestone just held its CQB Two course. It was an extremely rewarding course for both the students and instructors. During the numerous AARs throughout the course, students had questions about videos and social media posts that they have seen. Some are good. Others are just full of bad ideas.
In this episode, Jared talks a little about the course, but spends most of the time addressing CQB training as a whole. There are good instructors and companies out there like us, who know how to teach this. But the number of charlatans peddling the "best" CQB techniques from the good idea fairy far outnumber us. Jared explains why he's a subject matter expert and talks about general truths of CQB. He expounds on things to look out for if you are interested in this type of training. This episode is one to listen to a few times and to share.

Jared recently spent a week volunteering at a young men's camp. He was asked to teach a workshop on self defense. He talks about it and the importance of doing hard things. He also talks a little about current events and the need to stay alert.

We recently held the Urban Avalanche training event. Jared talks about this unique course where the participants experience societal collapse. They had to use skills taught in Lodestone classes: land nav, urban survival, cache placement and recovery, urban evasion, SUT, and others. He shares some stories and lessons learned by the students. In this episode, Jared and Micah talk about real training vs. fantasy. There are plenty of good quality training companies out there, of which LTAC is one. But for every good one, there are a dozen that aren't. They share some examples of those who are attempting to "teach" concepts and courses above their understanding.
LTAC has one of the most well-rounded course offerings in the country, yet we are very specific in what we teach. Jared uses an example of why we don't teach a specific set of classes, as a way of self-regulating. The point of this podcast isn't that you should or shouldn't teach, it's to check your ego and know your abilities and limitations.

What a strange year 2024 has been. We've had to make more adjustments to the schedule this year than ever before. Regardless, Lodestone held 95 events over the course of 2024 -- everything from the Six-Day SFAUC Flat Range course to 3-hour LTAC Tuesdays. The 95th event was last Saturday's Freedom Day. It was a good, fun event to finish out the year.
In this episode, Jared and Micah go through the year, talk about some of their favorite moments, discuss some of the classes and events, and talk about what's in store in the next year.

Participants were treated to some beautiful weather for their 9-mile ruck and their challenge stations. Recorded Sunday, Jared tries (a second time) to finish this episode. His first attempt just turned into a rant on the complete failure of FEMA and the current administration in providing real aid to those affected by Hurricane Helene. So, instead of ranting about the obvious, he tried to be a little more informative.
During the recent Battle Rifle course, a student asked about the closing song used on the podcast. Jared explains the meaning behind "Mess of Pottage" and why he uses it in the podcast. He uses the recent hurricane as an example of why you need to prepare. He reviews the basics for a 72-hour kit. You need something you can grab and go.

Jared sits down with the Martin Brothers. They share their first-hand experience as young members of their family, serving a mission in Kenya. At the ages of 7 and 13, they and their family lived through the 2007-2008 Kenyan Crisis, which was a violent political, economic, and humanitarian crisis that erupted after former president Mwai Kibaki was declared the winner of the presidential election held on Dec. 27, 2007.
They talk about what it was like living there before, and then as the violence erupted, and what their family did to survive and eventually escape the country.

On November 9th, Attorney Josh Prince of Prince Law Officed, P.C. announced his candidacy for the Commonwealth Court: a vacancy resultant from then-Judge Kevin Brobson's election to the PA Supreme Court last year.
Josh sat down with Jared and discussed this and other recent events in his life. This could be one of the most important podcasts we have done. With the world getting crazy and the necessity of flying to the location of the class, they thought it smart to plan in case something were to happen (like a nuke going off or a major cyber attack) -- what to do if they had to walk the 2000 miles back home. This conversation was recorded last week in a hotel room. They talk about what they did and didn't bring with them. They talk about the how and why of the routes they would take, and how they planned to get more supplies. This special edition of the LTAC Podcast was recorded mid-August in the middle of all kinds of different stress. While working in the office, Jared needed an escape for a little while. For the fun of it, he recorded this podcast talking about 20 different Rock and/or Roll songs from 15 bands that he's enjoyed over the years. Most of the bands, you've probably never heard of. "The Wild Geese", starring Richard Burton, Roger Moore, Richard Harris, and Hardy Krüger is about Allen Faulkner, a former British Army colonel turned mercenary, who arrives in London to meet merchant banker Sir Edward Matheson. The latter proposes an operation to rescue Julius Limbani, the imprisoned President of a southern African nation who is due for execution by General Ndofa. President Limbani is held in a remote prison in Zembala, guarded by a regiment of General Ndofa's troops known as the "Simbas".
Faulkner accepts the assignment and begins recruiting forty-nine mercenaries, including officers he had worked with previously. Then the fun really begins.

The majority of the cadre recorded an EDC dump. They discuss what they carry every day and why. They also talk about being well-rounded in your EDC.
