Soulcially Responsible: Living From The Inside Out: Recent Episodes

Bridget Blythe Briere

Beyond labels, titles, & roles, look inward and become who you truly are, not who you think you’re supposed to be. After all, you’re not the thoughts you think, you’re separate from them! Host Bridget Briere spent nearly 15 years in a career she thought she had to chase. Despite successes, including anchoring the news in a top market, she felt like an imposter in her own life. But now she's pursuing a path that she calls "being SOULcially responsible" and this podcast is designed to provide you with guideposts to create your own course of action when it comes to thoughts, actions & reactions.

Having a deeper sense of purpose, pursuing our passions, and being paid in the process is something lots of us long for.  So why is it that so many of us never take the leap and make it happen?

Just recently, I learned about a Japanese concept that focuses on exactly this. It’s called Ikigai and in the course that I’m taking with Cathy Heller right now, she describes Ikigai as a “reason for being” and is helping me - and whoever else is taking the course - to align our sense of purpose with our passions so we can figure out a way to get paid for it.

So ... This felt like the perfect time to publish a conversation I had a few weeks ago with a woman who wholeheartedly lives this concept of Ikigai.

She happens to be my Aunt, but as it applies to what we're covering here, Maggie Egan is also a wonderful and passionate Actress based in Los Angeles who’s done so many cool things including working with actors like George Clooney and Seinfeld.

The way she describes the love of her craft is "fire in the belly" and that imagery is so powerful I just had to know what that means to her, so we can each try and add some flames to our own pursuits.

As challenges arise, it’s an excellent opportunity to come out of autopilot thinking and reactions and, instead, get in there - being in the moment - and really fly the crap out of your brain plane.

When you do that over and over again you start to create the inner space to be able to re-write any unhelpful (often hurtful) inner narratives that have previously been published in your brain plane manual.

Doing this stuff little by little also allows you to experience and welcome in the incredible power of conscious living ... Of living from the inside out.

Being human is NOT about perfection.  It's about navigating the ever-changing landscape of our lives and swimming through the waves that sometimes come crashing down and other times gently roll in.

After recently posting a picture and video of myself crying on social media (and sharing the story of "why"), the outpouring of messages I received in response prompted me to create this particular episode.

When we shine a light on that which we think should be hidden in the dark, I’m finding that it actually creates a spark.

Excuses. Stories. Limiting Beliefs. Playing small. Shrinking down.

Whether it's deflecting compliments or over apologizing, so many of us do these seemingly "small" things that dim our inner light.

This week we'll talk more about cultivating awareness and learning to recognize the ego voice so the true self can shine bright.

You'll also hear about how a recent experience with feelings of jealousy, fueled by an inner narrative of unworthiness, allowed for an opportunity to get in there with the thoughts and ultimately come back to the knowledge that we are all more than enough.

When we peel back the often complicated layers of thoughts, stories we tell ourselves, and the feelings that arise and seem to cocoon around us when we're upset in some way (or maybe the image of being tied up in a straightjacket is a more appropriate visual),  we can often discover that it’s not the actual situation that’s causing us such distress, but rather, it’s a re-wounding of some sort ... Like the situation is triggering something from our past ... And then there we are in a hurt loop of self-induced suffering because of the thoughts that we continue to play on autopilot. That’s why we can’t ignore this stuff and why brushing it off doesn’t solve a damn thing. So today we're doing a little dissecting, using my recent meltdown over doing a hairdo for my daughter as our specimen. Let's break down how a breakdown can lead us to a place of healing, by following our feelings and doing some story-revealing.

We’re talking with a self-proclaimed "recovering bitch" in our first ever Soulcially Responsible Conversations Series.  It takes real guts and incredible awareness to recognize where we have room for improvement and our guest, Christy Dole, is not only doing the work for herself, she's now helping others as a Certified Coach who’s guiding people in goal setting, improving their mindset, and more. In our chat, Christy - who’s been a close friend of mine for five years now - is also sharing some of the important lessons she's learned from losing friendships in the past and admits that she hadn’t realized how much she was pouring her own identity into other people.  Awakening to that allowed her to create change for the better.   Identifying a so-called problem doesn't mean you're stuck!  Instead, we can choose to take inspired action and Christy's story might be just the nudge that you need!     Either way, I strongly believe that every one of us has an important perspective to share and that we can learn a lot from each other.   Check out Christy's website and various offerings here: https://whenhustlemeetsflow.com/  She also has some openings for one to one coaching which you can look into here: https://ip86zorcxab.typeform.com/to/OchIbhCq  And feel free to take her quiz to find out if you're the hustle or the flow: https://mailchi.mp/0d0b1f27577b/hustleflowquiz

Self-doubt is a stealer of hopes and dreams. But it's also a thief you can catch! Claiming - or reclaiming - confidence is SO badass. After all, anyone can curl into a ball and cry mercy. For the first 12 episodes this was "Soucially Responsible: A regular girl’s guide to spiritual awakening”. But after consistently creating content for this podcast the past three months, I decided to make a tweak, swapping the subtitle to: LIVING FROM THE INSIDE OUT ... Because that feels more universal, as far as connecting with more people - which is really important to me.

Doing this work - practicing living from the inside out, learning to go inward to heal instead of looking outside ourselves - is truly transformative.

This week, I'm challenging you to slow down with a few simple suggestions that I've been employing and find really helpful ... And I hope you do too.

A lot of us humans in grown-up age bodies are walking around with behaviors that come from a wounded inner child.  But the beautiful thing is that as adults we have a choice: continue on autopilot - doing what we’ve always done - OR we can take on a cool, challenging opportunity - to notice and observe the things we, do think and say, and make adjustments … Become more SOULCIALLY RESPONSIBLE.

When it comes to the child within, we can each become a parent to ourselves and tend to those parts of us that need nurturing.  In this episode, I'm sharing how raising my own children is highlighting the importance of giving this attention, how the hurt kid in me shows up in my marriage and as a mom, and what I'm doing (which you can apply to your own life) to heal that sweet (inner) child of mine.

Trust is a must in order to know your True Self and connect with your Soul.  As you - the observer, the awareness, the consciousness, the one who’s in there with the thoughts, the SOUL part of you - learn to TRUST the inner knowing that exists within each of us, it becomes a sort-of superpower in your life ... Especially when it comes to things like decision making and guiding your life forward. This week I share how ignoring intuition has bitten me in the butt, as well as how - with practice - I have grown to trust myself so much more and how that's working for my life.  I also challenge you to become a private investigator of sorts, as we look at what it takes to tune into your intuition, creating a pathway to trusting yourself.

Are you subconsciously hiding from true feelings and emotions?

A stifled emotion can morph into self-induced suffering,  That's right!  Avoidance of feeling your feelings creates bigger problems.

The great news is that through awareness (check yourself) you can pull yourself out of a downward spiral (so you don't wreck yourself).

In this episode, I'm sharing my own realizations about a strange, subconscious, self-destructive strategy that I've often sought during times of loneliness, how I'm learning to lean into reality instead of running away and, of course, there's a call to action for YOU to check YOURSELF, along with some insight into how to investigate this.
