The title is technically accurate, but it's not a sign that I'm cashing out or anything like that.Spoiler Alert!I’m transferring 65% of the HP from my @tibfox wallet to the @DIYHub curation project. This is essential to ensure we can pay our delegators and writers without dipping into my personal funds. Naturally, I want to avoid impacting my real-life bank account, so this seemed like the best solution. If you’re curious about the details and how we arrived at this decision, be sure to check out the video! ;)
Big thanks to @vaultec for his huge delegation and for bringing our payout plan to the limits. Now we are prepared ;) The coding part is pretty simpleYou first need to set up a vesting route from your source to the receiver account. Important here is that you set "auto-vest" = true. This will result in the funds are getting automatically powered up on the receiver side. I used Python and the beem library for that. Here is the documentation of the part following now:

Once you've set up the vesting route, all powered-down tokens will be automatically sent to the receiver account and (if you have auto-vest enabled) will get powered up there again. To keep things simple, I chose to power down using PeakD rather than manually calculating the vests I could power down via code using the beem library. ;)

But these are YOUR funds?!I still reserve the right to withdraw these funds from @DIYHub if necessary, though I don’t anticipate needing to do so for several years. Today, I'm leveraging my personal network to scout for new team members for my curation project, DIYHub.

Despite having a significant delegation and a pretty well-known name on Hive, we've been struggling for months to find new members through our DIYHub Channel or our DIYHub Community. So today, I'm trying a new approach.

Who are we looking for?We're on the lookout for Hivers who are passionate and ready to take on specific responsibilities. Your reputation or the length of your Hive journey isn't our primary concern; what matters is your understanding of quality content, basic Hive knowledge, and any additional skills you can contribute.

We value those who believe in the power of DIY, repair, and recycling. If you've worked on curation projects before or have other valuable insights, we’d love to hear from you. We're eager to welcome fresh perspectives, implement new ideas, and refine our existing workflows for the future.

Tasks- Curating ContentIn the beginning, your main responsibility will be scouting for quality content both within and outside of our DIYHub community. This task should be completed at least every two days. You'll do this using a Discord command, where you'll categorize the content and provide a few lines of meaningful feedback. It's straightforward and easy to get started with 😉- Content CreationOnce you're comfortable with the curation process, I'll introduce you to our Engagement Reports and the steps involved in creating them. These reports are planned to get published weekly and are supported by a discord command that gathers all the comments curated by the @DIYHub account within our community.

Your role will be to run this command, select the best comment from the list, and write 2-3 lines about the comment, its author, or any relevant details. The chosen author will receive 1 Hive SBI as a reward, and the entire process is streamlined through Discord commands. This task typically takes only 15 minutes but significantly boosts engagement within our community.

Every Gardener Knows...
The fight against SNAILS!These slimy little pests have a knack for making enemies out of anyone who loves planting flowers, veggies, or any kind of plant. It’s like their life mission is to:

Make People AngryIt's not that snails are heartless; they actually care a lot... about ruining your day. Their supervillain power? Eating what you love most and multiplying like there’s no tomorrow.

My Position in This WarI'm a pacifist at heart, so this situation is tough for me. I always try to resolve conflicts without anger or violence. I believe that if they can't hurt my feelings, they’ve already lost. In the past, my strategy was to suppress my excitement about planting, giving them no chance to ruin my gardening joy. But that's not a healthy approach. I want to enjoy gardening, anticipation and all.This time, I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve to make their quest for destruction harder and save my beloved plants. Planting in raised beds works pretty well. The higher the bed, the harder it is for them to reach their feast. Another experiment, putting containers without a bottom around my plants, was a partial failure as you’ll see in the video. And then I have a greenhouse but that did not hold the snails back to eat my pepper plant and trying to kill my tomatoes.

My GreenhouseI built my greenhouse without any guidance—just the way I like it. This year, I’ve learned what I did wrong in my initial design and this will be a hopefully good solution to the whole snail problem (at least in my greenhouse...)Check out the video to see my improvements and cross your fingers for me that this big change will keep the snails out please 💪

New day new video and this time also a bit more written content underneath. I guess I am back in the flow of creating content regularly 💪

Today, I'd like to address a comment from @anggreklestari regarding my recent video. She asked about my watering system and I promised to make a 3speak short.

The video turned out longer than expected, but it's still in vertical format because I initially planned for a short video. I apologize for the non-cinematic aspect ratio and for recording everything on my mobile... ;)

How It All BeganTwo years ago, I relocated from Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg to Hamburg-Hasselbrook, where I now reside. Despite the move, my garden remains in Wilhelmsburg, which used to be just a 5-minute drive or a 20-minute walk away. I often spend extended periods in my garden on weekends, but during the week, I still needed to make the trip to water my plants. With the summers getting increasingly dry here in Germany, my plants require more frequent watering to thrive and avoid wilting. I was thinking about various ways to solve this issue but only on a mechanical/solar level because I did not consider the good old batteries as the solution for my problems.Father's TipIn that same year, my father retired and decided to build himself a raised bed for gardening. One challenge with raised beds is that the soil can dry out quickly due to water runoff. To address this issue, he researched and discovered a solution that benefited both of us: self-watering systems.My Self-Watering SystemThe entire system is very simple yet highly effective:
The setup allows me to automatically water my plants twice a day, at 8 am and 8 pm, for 10 minutes each time, without needing to be physically present in the garden. The only drawback is that I need to uninstall the system before winter to prevent frost damage to the components. However, reinstalling it in spring is a small price to pay for the convenience and effectiveness it offers during the growing season. There are three main components that can save you a lot of work and trouble with dying plants:

The Electronic ValveThere are watering controllers that operate solely on battery power. You connect them to an open valve, and they automatically open the valve at specific times of the day for a set duration. I was initially surprised that battery power could effectively control the valve, but it works reliably, and the battery life is impressive. With just 2 AAA batteries, I can water my plants throughout the entire season and beyond.

However, looking back, I wish I had purchased a controller with two outputs. This would allow me to have two separate watering systems because each valve can be set independently. For instance, I could water my cannabis plants once a day and all the veggies twice a day. Currently, I have to find a delicate balance between not overwatering my cannabis and ensuring my other plants receive enough water. It's achievable, but it requires a lot of adjustment and trial & error. If you would ask me today for a recommendation I would suggest you to buy this product: Sprinkler Timer on amazon

The Drip Irrigation KitAnother crucial aspect is the irrigation kit, which includes all the components necessary to set up a drip watering system. There are numerous kits available on the market, and while they may seem similar (likely manufactured in the same factory in China), the quality is generally good. I've been using my system for two years now and am heading into the third year with it.

Two things that I discovered are:1. Make sure to have plenty of extra hose length on hand for your irrigation system setup. Having a spare hose will allow you the flexibility to adjust or repair your system as needed without running short on materials. 2. When buying a drip irrigation kit, ensure it includes enough drip watering outputs (see image above). These outputs are efficient and gentle on plants, unlike nozzles that spray and waste water through evaporation. Having drip outputs will save water and protect your plants from potential harm caused by hard water jets. Avoid the need to substitute with less efficient nozzles by choosing a kit with more than enough drip-watering components from the start.

Hoses and SplittersThe last but also important parts are:
Large and long hoses are essential for bridging wide distances in your garden.
Splitters are necessary for separating zones and connecting wide hoses to smaller black drip irrigation lines.

I already had these items in my inventory from before I set up my self-watering system, and I'm guessing you might have them too if you have a garden. You can find these commonly used items in any gardening store, so I won't share specific links. They're likely part of your gardening toolkit already.

Conclusion / CalculationThis entire system cost me around 70 Euro (~75 USD) and it saves me so much time and trouble.

I calculated the saved time roughly:
In Germany, a typical gardening season lasts around 22 weeks. * I need to visit my garden at least* three times per week to water my plants. * Watering them manually takes a lot of time and energy. Realistically, up to 45 minutes per watering session. * The travel time to my garden is around 10-15 minutes by car. * Of course, we can also subtract the setup and teardown time each year: approximately 2.5 hours for setup in the spring and 1 hour for uninstalling in late autumn.

22 weeks * 3 times * (45 minutes + 20 minutes travel) - 2.5 hours setup - 1 hour teardown **= 68 Hours**You can imagine that a 70 Euro investment is well worth it compared to the 68*2 hours I've saved over the past 2 years in watering time alone.

In addition to these savings, it's important to consider that:

My plants receive water twice a day, ensuring they stay healthy and hydrated.
The drip watering system helps in order to save a significant amount of water compared to manual watering methods.
I save a considerable amount of physical energy by not having to carry heavy watering cans around regularly.

In conclusion, this self-watering system has been the perfect solution for me and my plants, and I would recommend it to anyone, regardless of the garden size, types of plants, or proximity to home. It not only saves time and effort but also uses the water efficiently. Additionally, it eliminates the need to rely on neighbors or friends to water plants when on vacation or sick, which is ideal for someone like me who hates to ask for help lol

Hey there!

@mypathtofire told me in my most recent video that he has no green thumb but I don't have one either.

Nonetheless I buy seedlings for my garden every year and enjoy the process. As a bonus if all goes well I am going to have at least some veggies (and more secret stuff haha) in late summer/autumn to harvest.

It's all about the process and less about the end result for me :) I love to take care for this place, the plants and enjoying growth over one whole gardening season. Also I like to experiment and learn as you can see of my watering system and my tries to defend snails and other creatures to hurt my plant friends.

In Germany (and probably in other parts of the same climate zone) there is a famous farmer's rule I followed for the past years saying that you should not plant before the "Eisheiligen" which is a time between the 11th and 15th of May because these are the last days with potential frosted grounds.

In my experience of the past years this is total bs (at least in our days and climate change and stuff) and so I decided to not follow this anymore and I have planted some veggies already. I dont believe that frost will come back as we have 9°C at least in the night's right now. Please cross your fingers for me that I will be right and that my neighbors in this community garden will be jealous when I harvest sooner and bigger than them ;)

The beach in Hamburg called Elbstrand (named after the river "Elbe" which crosses Hamburg) is a very beautiful part of my hometown. It stretches across several kilometers, offering scenic views of the river, passing ships, and the harbor side of Hamburg.

Last Sunday I spontaneously grabbed my camera, equipped it with 17-70mm zoom lens and got there for a relaxing stroll.

It was a much-needed break for me, as I've been feeling a bit unfocused with my creative projects lately. I'm really glad I went. I hope you enjoy the video!

Welcome to this little video by me because I really missed creating videos so much. Please read also the following thoughts because they will give the video more value, meaning and they show my personal development after hitting the record button. Thanks :) Today is one day after I have recorded the video ... and maybe I feel different because of that. But it can also be that while editing I made a step inside my head and just realize how detached I am/was from reality. I start the video with some reasons for not creating videos lately. But the more I think about that video and the true meaning of it, the more I realize that these are just excuses and I had to make this video for myself to get out of the loop. I act like I was okay with my creative break but in reality I was not.

Talking to the camera already felt weird ... but there was a feeling of relief when I started recording the first couple of seconds. All the built-up pressure to create something meaningful and artsy just vanished with a click of a button. The creative resistance is really what holds me back from expressing myself sometimes. But I started to fight it back and got into a little talk about my life and more.

And then the next barrier came while editing ... I had doubts if I should even upload the video - if it contains any value for anyone. But the more I have searched for this moment of meaning, I realized that the video does contain huge value for one very important person in my life: Myself.

I know that all sounds a bit overexaggerated ... but creating videos is pretty important for me as a creative outlet without I am feeling incomplete. The feeling of being not enough in a creative way is daunting and even spills over to other aspects of my life. Of course, it is necessary to ask yourself if you can do better but if these doubts are getting so big that you stop doing what you love - it is harmful. I realized that years ago but still there is this fight against creative resistance.

Yesterday I went to my garden to check the automatic watering system I installed a few days earlier (I will publish a dedicated video about it soon). As most of the time I had my Sony FX30 with me. Just in case something suuuuuper cineatic happens in my boring life lol.. Most of the time I just practise my recording skills or record footage I never use in a video later on. This time I was amazed by the lighting and early summer vibes in my garden at early sunset.

So I started to record single clips of plants and trees, tried different angles, focal lengths and apertures not thinking about sharing it on 3speak. But when I got home and reviewed the footage I instantly had piano music in my mind so I started to compile it all together into a nice short. Because of my intentions to not use the footage afterwards I did not thought of a story I could implement into the scenes. That's why it is more a time capsule from early summer 2023 and just an easy watchable short video. It could seem a bit cheesy with the music and stuff but I like it. That's what counts! On top of the edit I placed a self made border (black non-solid rectangle + desplacement by a fast noise generator) and I have played with film emulation a little tiny bit. You can recognize the grain and the pretty saturated colors. I think I will play more with this technique even though on the other hand it is just shinangans. Why using a digital camera when you "downgrade" it to a "film aestetic" but I dont know - I like the nostalgic feel of it somehow. Do you feel the same? Let me know in the comments please! When it comes to my skills with this camera I am pretty happy about the progress. I developed a feeling for the right exposure even with very different and costrasting circumstances. Also I start to not think too much about exposure and more about composition.

In the past I exposed by eye but recording in Dual ISO and Log profile (even though I have a display lut) I usually under exposed 1 stop or more. Now I just dont care about the exposure meter, dont use my exposure card and just hit record with a blinking +2 on my camera display.

My main issue with the FX30 is the small screen and the lack of an view finder. I don't want to carry my monitor around just to record practise footage or short vlogs so I have to learn to trust my gut.
Btw: I don't think that you will ever recognize a little bit of noise anyway..
There are just too many variables that come with recording in log on a (small) cinema camera. I think that the eye-balling route it is a good strategy to quickly get better without carrying a full rig with me. I will keep doing my best to have good compositions, steady hands and a contrasty end result without crushed shadows or blown highlights. I will never be a feature film maker but I come closer and closer of being a "small" film maker and I take you with me on my journey.

recently I struggle to find video topics and this buggs me a lot because of my inner demanding voice to create something and to practise video making. So I decided to challenge myself with recording and editing a sequence about how the HiveUP Europe table displays are made.

@rubencress is responsible for the amazing design, I only picked background images and did the "hardware work". So I can only show the hardware work in the sequence. @rubencress: I know you will be annoyed / angry because of the printing with OpenOffice issue... I did not find a relyable solution within photoshop since my prints always got too saturated - but I will research this more ;) )

I again underexposed the footage a lot so I had to use denoiser in post. Next time I will use my exposure card again for sure! Maybe you can spot the artifacts in the video(?)

Headphone Warning: The Music Kicks Ass!!!

Hey lovely Drone Community!

Yesterday I finally took the time to rip my tinywhoop around the garden. After the dog bite happening I lost the fun in drone flying a little bit..

But now I have returned even though I will focus on the tinywhoop for now. I can fly this thing everywhere without anyone noticing or fearing the little toy. On the other hand it is way harder to maneuver with the little thrust and wight but I think this flight characteristics are even better to learn freestyle flying.

After more than 5 months without any stick time of course my acromode skills are a bit rusty but I still wanted to share my first session of 2023 with you all. More to come and probably an increase in technique 🤞 You can tell me in the future videos if you see any progress ;)

In the past weeks I got reminded by @rubencress to take more care for my own personal goals and place other things second. and I have to say: Thank you - You're right!

I want to spend more times creating things in real life and express my creativity in video and animation work instead of in coding bot commands nobody will use.

I am not going to abandon the HiveUP community but I am also not going to run after feedback and/or the meetup hosts anymore. They have their busy life and I have mine. From now on I will focus 10x more on my own goals.

Not so much more to say haha

Oh yeah: the spoiler in the video is a short clip just I have been working on before I have focused 100% on @hiveup-europe. So this will get finished soon now ;)

Hey y'all!

The experiment of "uploading videos daily" came to an end very quickly! I simply do not want to set myself these recurring deadlines.

I want to create videos when I have something to talk about - the first idea to upload even if I dont have something interesting created a lot of pressure on my shoulders. Every day I did not upload any video was a day with bad feelings if that makes sense and I am the only reason why I felt like this. So the daily upload is over.

But I start a new experiment:
"upload a video whenever I want"

That will be way easier to achieve and will not make me self-conscious ;) See you next time!

Oh yeah this is title and thumbnail are not clickbait unfortunately..

I got bitten by a german shepherd two days ago and I currently am a bit high on pain killers + antibiotics. In the video I tell you how I got into this situation. Because I got caried away in the video I totally fogot to talk about the wierd fact that the dog bit me 4 times but then ran away without any human being there at all. I was shouting when he attacked me but nobody answered. I also stayed in my car after that and watched the scene for around 15 minutes. Nobody came to look for me.

I made a charge against a person unknown just to be on the safe side when it comes to insurance and all that... Also I hope they find the dog / owner so they know they have to work on the dogs behaviour...

But I use this video also as a clever marketing trick to promote C/HIVE Europe which is a community aiming to help meetup organizers and potential attendees for local and online meetups.

Missing the GoalLet us first cover this:
In my first post about this challenge I had doubts about achieving to create one video each month of 2023. And now here we are 9 days behind the deadline but what can I say? I simply was not able to finish this piece in one month. That's it and that's totally fine. The final result is something I am proud of even though I could have taken 1 additional month to make it even better regarding sound design, pacing and many more facettes.

The whole production took me around 15x4h evenings to write, record, edit, animate and finish this video. I am very glad that I finally finished it even though I know you will not be able to imagine how much work it was when you watch it. But that's a good thing: When the viewer does not recognize the huge amount of work - it was a good work. (or really really bad work haha)

In case you don't know the not-so-ordinary ordinary items challenge by @rubencress: He set himself a goal to create a post every single day of December 2022 to highlight ordinary things and cover their not so ordinary sides with amazing photos and words. I really like this idea and decided to give this challenge a go but in the form of videos.2nd Topic: CoffeeEvery single day I drink at least one cup of coffee (but more like 5 cups). It became an ordinary thing for me and that's why I wanted to include "coffee" into the series. While creating the video I have learned a lot about coffee - the history, use and a few economical things. More in the video! (I am not going to spoil you)

Behind the scenes- Lighting -###### B-Roll

Regarding lighting the b-roll clips for coffee making I have used a single hard light source (Godox LC500R) and tried to position it out of frame. Also I tried to let it spread from the same spot most of the time to not hurt continuity too much. Unfortunately I was too rushed to take BTS shots / videos but next time I will remember.###### Talking Head

For the talking head shot I have published a little breakdown as a 3speak short:

Stop Motion

For the stop motion elements I have used a big soft box (LAOFAS D90B + Godox SL60W) to eliminate most of the drop shadows on my green background. It worked quite well but not for all elements like the snack bar for example:Also I did not have a real overhead rig. I balanced my phone from a small shelf above which resulted in a pitched picture. Next time I will go back to my "floor recording mode" so I can place the softbox and camera exactly above the subject. - Teleprompter -This is the main issue I have with the video - my wandering eyes in the talking head shots. It is very obvious that I have used a teleprompter to read the script for this video. I knew it would be visible but that obviously is too much for me. Next time I will pick a wider field of view or simply back up more away from the camera to decrease the chances that you can see my pupils following a script.
At first I tried to talk without the script but for me as a non native I made just too many errors and using a teleprompter saved me a lot of time in the edit.
If you have watched the video before reading this here: Please tell me if it was obvious for you as well. When you watch the same clips over and over of course it will be easily visible but perhaps it was not as present when you watch the video the first time.[show image of teleprompter]

Stop Motion -Let me tell you: It was a hustle. The stop motion elements took the most time for this video.

I made >500 single photos in total but the photography was not that hard. The real effort was to cut out the elements before the actual shoot.

Next time I will try to add less elements but with more impact. I think it would have benefitted the result more if I would have used more metaphorical elements instead of displaying what I say in the video. Next time I will try to add this layer of abstraction to the planning of my shots.- Animation -Next to the stop motion effects I also made a 40 seconds long animation covering a legend about the origin of coffee. This part was actually the first thing I worked on for this video in the beginning of February because I knew it would be the hardest thing to finish. And it turned out pretty good in my opinion.

Only thing I would do differently would be the movements because I keyframed everything "by hand". The shaking goats for example could have been animated with expressions which would have saved me a lot of time. Some things I still have to learn with Davinci Resolve.

Cinemascope Aspect RatioAnother video - another aspect ration I wanted to use. This time I gave 2.39:1 a shot even though most of you know this from cinematic movies and short films but I want to experiment in this series no matter what the common "rules" are. And I think especially for the b-roll sequences of me making coffee it worked and gave the scenes a cinematic feel - if you wanna name it like this. I had problems with framing a few shots in post. My camera records videos in 16:9 only and I had to zoom in 1.35x to get the image to fill the aspect ratio. And with the zoom a lot of space of the top and bottom of the shots got out of frame. It did not hurt soo much but next time I want to get better at correct framing.

I like that they have a spotify presence so you can listen to the music while editing or recording and put the tracks you like in a playlist to work with later.

Creator Mix on spotifyOriginally I had the plan to use chill hiphop music as background music. But in the edit I recognized a missing balance between the speed of my voice and the music. So I decided to use more present but fitting synth wave music. I am happy that I have changed my mind and took this project to a totally different flow with the choice of music. It feels more like an entertaining piece and not too laid back. I cover a lot of facts and slow hiphop would have made it a bit boring. What do you think?

Sound EffectsThis time I have used a lot more sounds to underline the animations and b-roll shots. Again I have used the amazing library from freesound.org to find what I needed. This time I even donated some fiat to this project because it saved me so much time and you can really find anything there!MixingMy microphone (rode wireless go) does not take so much of the low frequencies of my voice. I tried to get that back with EQing but I really don't know if that worked or not.

Like I've said: The music is faster music than intended but I think it serves the overall pace of the talking parts. I tried to lower the volume of the background music as much as needed while still keeping the "party vibes" going. I don't know if that worked out as good but on my headphones it sounded good. I lowered a few frequencies of the music via EQing to make room for my voice.

This time I did not have used de-esser or noise-cancelling on any of the audio. I think it is good to have some atmosphere in the background even though you will probably not recognize it. De-Esser - a must have of my previous videos which removes hard "s"-sounds from an audio - does weird things to a voice if you are not able to adjust it perfectly. That's why I decided to skip it for this video.

Lessons learnedNow again I want to tell you about the big "I did this and that wrong" for this video. As I have mentioned I am really not happy about how visible the use of a teleprompter is in this video. Other than that there are just a few small things I do not like and/or had to redo for the video:

1. Never animate coffee beans by hand
Because they are round on one side (the side you don't want to show) they are very easily tipped from their position and the whole animation is a waste of time. I tried creating the intro sequence 3 times by hand until I decided to make it in post. This animation was hard for the workstation I am editing on but it saved me many more tries and headache with the stop motion approach.

2. Use blue background paper for stop motion
The green paper creates just too much green spill on the objects themselves laying on top. I had a hard time with keying out the elements in post. That would have not been the case if I used blue background paper. I have it here but did not use it. Next time ;)

3. Imagine the crop in post before pressing the record button
My framing was off from time to time because I did not calculate in the crop in post to fit the desired aspect ratio of 2.39:1. The next video will probably be in 9:16 so it will be super easy for me to frame everything as I want. It would be sooo cool if my camera had more aspect ratio overlays than only for 4:3.

4. Write down the sources while creating the script
For this project I have researched a lot and usually I write down my sources within the script. But this time I forgot to write every source link down and I have also changed the order of paragraphs of the script so often that I lost track of the correct source links. So I had to search and find the links while editing the footage because as you see in the video I show numbers in the top left corner and wanted to give you the sources here in this written post. Not a really bad thing but it would have saved me some time if I kept track of the source for every single fact all the time.

My opinionIt is such a good feeling to finish something you have worked on for so long. Even if it is a 7 minute long video and nobody can imagine the efforts while watching the video. I made a big jump and shouted "I am done" yesterday while watching the final render.

Again I have learned a lot of things and I am slowly optimizing my workflow with all the lessons. Also I have gained a lot of self confidence in accomplishing such a bigger and planned project. The next video will be totally different but I know that I will find solutions to problems I encounter on the journey of creating the next piece. This time only one question for you- Did you recognize that I read from a script? And if yes: Does it affect how you value the video itself?

Start of a new challenge for 2023

You probably heard of the the not-so-ordinary ordinary items challenge by @rubencress? He set himself a goal to create a post every single day of December 2023 to highlight ordinary things and cover their not so ordinary sides with amazing photos and words. I really like this idea and decided to give this challenge a go!
- My own rules -1 Format: VideoBut I will put my own spin to it. I decided to go with the video format to practise and learn the skills I rarely have used in the past couple of months. In fact these skills are a super rusty.

2 Topics: broader focus@rubencress have done a great job working with specific objects and show them from a different perspective. Of course I could do 10 second shorts with macro videos and cool light effects but my expecatation is that a video should contain more than visuals for the viewer. That's why I think a broader topic (like "indoor plants" instead of "rubber fig") is needed so I will stretch the rules a little bit. I will include side facts, history lessons and more to spice the topics up.

3 Gear: Sony FX30Additional to my rusty skills I have purchased a new camera - the Sony FX30 which is a entry level cinema camera. The features und usage is very much different to my old camera - the Sony a6400. Both are APS-C (so I can use my old lenses) but the rest is something I have to get used to and learn by practise. With the Sony FX30 there is Cine EI which enables you to shoot with the base ISOs (800 and 2500) to achieve the best possible image when it comes to dynamic range and noise. With this I have to pay more attention on exposure while still taking care of composition and everything else.

4 Schedule: MonthlyVideo is a lot of work if you want to do it right and the pace of an every day post is nothing I will be able to accomplish. So I set the bar way lower and committed to post one video every month. This way I will have enough time for pre-production, shooting and post-production. Only when you combine all three you will be able to achieve the for you best possible result.

Even with this schedule it will be hard to keep up with the workflow as the year is filled with work intense times, holidays and my dayjob. But I will do my best to accomplish this schedule. If needed I can always make shorter videos or embed less different kinds of media or shot types included.

Looking forwardI am excited about all the knowledge I will gain by working on this challenge. After making my first video for this challenge (see below) the obvious points I have to work on gotr exposed. There is a to learn and to experiment. I know it will be much fun and exciting for me (and hopefully for you).

This month: Indoor Plants - Our green friends
photo by meIntroWe all have indoor plants but I have people in my life who rarely see the importance of indoor plants except their beauty. In this video I am going to highlight some facts about indoor plants and I even teamed up with @grindan and @snook to achieve a special class room feeling sequence within the video. The goal is to raise awareness that indoor plants and humans are living in a symbiosis and since they healp us with oxigene we should also help them by taking care for their water, sun and soil needs.

ProcessThe process of pre-production was fairly simple: I have researched a bit and started to write the script for the video in a google doc. After writing and refining the script multiple times I continued to think about ways to visualize the specific paragraph in video form and what kind of media I can use.

From there I split the different kinds of media (animation, footage, voice over) and defined shot types like closeups, medium shots and wide shots. In the pre production I had the idea to integrate my slider in a few shots which worked quiet good to make the video more exciting.

4KIDS animationI had this idea to create a short animation explaining photosyntesis and transpiration in a kind of school vibe. But because my voice is omnipresent throughout the video I asked the fellow hiver @snook if she could record the voice for me. And she took this even further and handed the task over to @grindan to create the voice over which she have done great! Thank you both for your help!

The animation was played back on an old portable CRT TV via HDMI 2 Avi converter. The shot is too dark for my taste but it captured the overall aesthetic I aimed for.

Plant Framesphoto by meFor one in my opinion important shot I took portraits of a few plants. My plan was to tell the viewer about long living plants and symbolize it with pictures hanging on the wall. Just like with pictures of your family. And also this worked quiet well in my opinion. In good old DIYHUB community fashion I crafted little frames - the ones you can see throughout this post.

The images are printed with my printer on standard paper and that's why they are not as saturated as you would expect. They fit the needs of the video and I did not think about including them in this post here. Next time I will use better paper to have a better end result for sure.

4:3 Aspect RatioThis is a major decision I made before I actually recorded any footage since it affects the style and mood of a video. Almost every video we watch today is in 16:9 or 9:16. With this challenge I also want to experiment with different aspect rations and aesthetics so I decided to try a more nostalgic flair and went with 4:3. In camera I activated a 4:3 overlay so I can frame the shots better. Video recording is limitted to 16:9 on the FX30 unfortunately.

MusicLast but not least I wanna tell you a bit more about the music I have picked and used for this project. Basically it is only one track called "Distant Grace" from the latest EP by a band called Fantasy In Notes in which a friend of mine is the producer. He made it possible that I have a version without drums because like that I can move snippets of the track more freely around inside my editing timeline.

I dont have to say much about the sound effects because I rarely used some. But if I use sound effects then I find them on freesound.org.

Lessons learnedNow the big "I did this and that wrong". Since I have never used the Sony FX30 for an actual video project I struggled a lot with the correct settings and I had a big pain in post production. I messed up:

coverage
focus
frame rates
exposure
white balance
sound

and basically everything else you can mess up. This video taught me so much and I am very happy about the overall process and the result I achieved while making so many errors. I tend to be a perfectionist but with this project I was able to break out of this mindset and finish the video nevertheless knowing that the next project will be better. I feel that I am going to grow a lot as a video creator / film maker over the upcoming 11 videos.

Now I know where my weaknesses are and what I can and have to improve to up the quality of my videos. In theory I know everything but when it comes to useing the knowlewdge I struggle. Often I become overwealmed of the shot in my head so I fully forget to check exposure for example. After experiencing the pain in the edit I purchased a color checker card with actually accurate colors and grey levels I can always carry around. This way I will be able to set exposure way better instead of eye-balling it and the additional gear will hopefully remind me to do so.
My opinionThe final result is something I am proud of even though I see all the issues in the footage and execution. I know these shots could have been way better if I only had experience with the camera and its settings already. But the work I put into it, all the things I was able to correct in post and the things I have learned I am really proud of.

When it comes to sound I had some issues recording the voice overs. I am just not used to record them and my voice still sounds robotic even though I re-recorded it multiple times. But also this is something we can learn and by making this video I have gained experience. Now I know on what I have to focus when writing the script and while recording the voice overs. Fingers crossed for next time.

I can not wait to use all the experience I gained over the last weeks making the video. The next one is already in pre production and will be very different to this one. I want to try out many different styles and genres with this challenge. It will be fun.

Our fellow hiver @ksteem is the admin of this amazing place and he recognized that ~~most~~ all of of my videos are about crashes I have while learning the hobby and he kind of called me out in the comments of the recent drone pic of the week contest of the drone community:

And here I am to proof that I can have a flight with a save landing and without any crash while still doing some freestyle moves and practise!

Hey peeps! Im back with another fpv freestyle video! This time with a really bad crash... My new drone with a new camera on board lost power during flight. Glad you've joined this episode of me becoming a freestyle drone pilot! Last time I promised to give you an update on my drone piloting skills after only showing you bits of crashes.

I practised in the last few weeks and got better in doing basic manouvers and actually doing some tricks.

Hey y'all!

A few months ago I have been really into drone flying and I rocked my DJI Mavic 2 Pro a lot. But since the freaking rules on where you can fly got more restricted and I was not able to fly it anywhere near here I decided to quit the hobby and sold my drone.

why I am starting again 2 Weeks ago I binge watched videos of a freestyle drone guy named botgrinder on youtube and I almost instantly changed my mind. Quadcopters are just too much fun and I will not restrict myself just because some people in suits think I should do so!

So I've researched a bit and I ordered an Eachine Novice 3 v2 from bangood and since they got a storage in the Czech Republic the drone got delivered very quickly to my place. After 5 days I was technically able to fly but the weather crossed my plans for almost 7 days in a row with rain and wind. In April we have very wierd weather from snow to rain to sunshine and all that. Yesterday I finally was able to fly it in person on a huge field and it was a blast!

acro mode The flying mode I wanna learn is named acro aka rate mode and this is extremely different to the horizon leveling mode on the dji mavic series. Every stick movement counts and is not automatically balanced out by moving the stick back to center.

I need to learn acro because it is needed for doing loops, rolls and other cool tricks you can't do with cinematic drones.

changes I made The quad is a very powerful toothpick racing quad and I had to turn down a lot of things in Betaflight. It was just too much power for me as a bloddy beginner. I changed rates to around 600 degrees/s and the throttle to 50%. Of course I will experiment more with it when I am comfortable enough to do some basics.

Starting aseries on here Thanks for watching my first video of a new series where I document my progress with this little quad. My goal is to land at least 1 powerloop by the end of this year. I think this is 100% achievable!
