American society continuously pressures men to be overly masculine. This demand for extremely masculine behavior is often referred to as Toxic Masculinity. In a patriarchy, men are presumed to make the money, get the girl, and run the world. Power and success are the ultimate goals leaving no room for emotions, let alone femininity. It is a culture in which women are considered lesser and weak, so when a man acts more stereotypically feminine he will be dragged off his pedestal of privilege. The concept of toxic masculinity permeates the American lifestyle, as the concept of a “manly man” is considered the norm.
