Midwife appointments: advice from professional community midwives about what to expect from booking to postnatal visits!

Hey guys welcome back!

I really enjoyed this episode, we are joined by professional community midwives who discuss how they support women from their booking appointment to postnatal appointments. We talk about what to expect during your first appointment with the midwife (the booking) and subsequent appointments. We also discuss what to expect once baby is born and what checks are done postnatally.

In this episode Lorraine and Monique discuss some of the expectations midwives would like for women to do to prepare themselves for delivery and parenting in order to improve their maternal outcomes.

This also includes seeking evidence based information to increase their knowledge and confidence in pregnancy and beyond.

We also touch on some issues that some women might be challenged by such as breastfeeding, postnatal depression, domestic abuse and how your midwives can support with that

In todays episode we are joined by our very own mumfluencer Chaneen Saliee who shares her experiences with us about how she went from knowing nothing about breastfeeding to becoming an advocate. We talk about the benefits of breastfeeding, stigmas, challenges and so much more. Sadly the rates of breastfeeding are declining causing tremendous health issues for mother and baby. According to the ONS only 24% of women exclusively breastfeed at 6 weeks in the UK, this does not include the statistics for black mothers which are proven to be higher.  It is clear that society, the government, businesses/employers and healthcare professionals need to play their part in supporting mothers to breastfeed their babies.
