In this podcast episode, Meredith Brough, a pediatric sleep expert, talks about a parenting concern that is becoming more common. Many parents feel anxious and scared when their babies cry; they are afraid that even normal expressions of emotion might be harmful.
Meredith discusses various situations when babies cry to signal different needs and other times when crying is an expression of emotion. She emphasizes the importance of parents learning to interpret these cries to respond appropriately to their infants' needs. She encourages parents to foster a sense of security and trust with their babies, which is crucial for healthy development.
In this episode, Meredith shares her personal experiences with tear-free sleep techniques and explains why they were created in the first place. She debunks the belief that parents should avoid tears completely and emphasizes the significance of being responsive and providing comfort and love to improve babies' sleep, instead.
Throughout the episode, Meredith addresses common concerns and misconceptions about infant sleep and offers reassurance to parents who may be struggling with sleep-related issues.
The show will help you walk away with a deeper understanding of how to lovingly and effectively support your babies' sleep needs, armed with strategies that prioritize comfort, loving responsiveness, and best of all, your child's well-being.

After 9 months of patience, preparation, and anticipation, what we want is a smooth, well-planned birth with a happy beginning. Unfortunately, it's common to experience the opposite. Maybe your labor wasn't what you expected. There might have been problems along the way.
Maybe you had problems or mistakes were made. Maybe your doctor or nurses didn't listen to you or honor your wishes. Or you and your baby might have experienced trauma or needed a C-section. (That's why doula work is so important. And why a lot of moms become doulas!)
There's nothing worse than feeling like you're invisible when you are at the mercy of others.
These situations are all-too-familiar for Sarah Bilger, an engineer and doula who specializes in VBAC preparation. Her passion for doula work and successful VBACs took root after her first child was born. Her baby came by C-section so she was told that this was the only option for her in the future. That didn't feel right. She listened to her gut and dove down the rabbit hole of researching.
Casual reading wasn't enough for Sarah, so she took doula certification courses. She shared what she was learning on her podcast, "Entering Motherhood." She had no idea that these decisions would change her life. Now she is helping other women prepare and experience the birth stories they are hoping for.
Listen to the show to hear more and feel inspired and validated by Sarah. Join us for a few laughs and lots of ah-ha moments. You'll enjoy Sarah's warmth, fun personality and walk away with insight and tips. (Hear some of Meredith's stories, too!)
If you've been told you must have a C-section from now on, listen for guidance and motivation so you can do what's right for you!
Bonus: As you listen to Sarah's story, pay attention to your thoughts and feelings about doula work. Is there a dream inside of you, waiting to be discovered? Maybe you're onto something. Would you enjoy a birth world career? Then reach out and let's talk about it! (Click HERE to set up a casual conversation).

It's very common to overlook sleep disorder signs. But have you ever called them cute? Parents and baby admirers alike are guilty of this crime. But we get it. It's not a subject that people understand.
What comes to mind when you hear these words: snoring, breathing with your mouth open, drooling, talking in your sleep, and sleep walking? Jokes? Cartoons? Nostalgic stories from your childhood? Yep. We've gotten so used to these behaviors that we don't think anything of them. But unfortunately, they are sleep disorder signs. Anyone who has one or more should discuss them with a medical professional.
LIsten to this conversation between Meredith Brough, a sleep expert, and Patricia McConnell, a trusted source on all things airway to learn A LOT more on this topic. She is a myofunctional therapist. She specializes in treating disorders of the mouth and supports patients in improving their sleep! She is easy to talk to and so knowledgable and enlightening. You're going to learn so much!

If you are the parent of a spirited and/or sensitive child, you'll want to listen to this interview between Meredith, sleep coach/mom mentor, and Amanda Sardinas, mother of 2-year-old Hannah. This is by far the most inspiring and uplifting episode of our show. If you don't know much about spirited and sensitive babies, you'll learn what's difficult for other parents to handle, and appreciate your own struggles.
When Hannah was young, Amanda began working with Meredith and discovered valuable insight about Hannah's temperament and needs. She learned how to build sleep habits using tear-free, supportive methods. She adopted a new parenting perspective and found strength to carry on (in good spirits). She stopped feeling down and discouraged about motherhood and its difficulties. Amanda decided that it was more important to find ways to strengthen Hannah's weaknesses and turn them into positive attributes and gifts, then watched the way her support transformed Hannah. Amanda learned to trust her gut and heart, be in tune with Hannah, and take better care of herself. Tune in to this episode to find the encouragement, perspective, and insight that you need.

Are you looking for solutions to help your baby sleep better? Are you thinking about sleep training your baby or toddler? Listen to this podcast and learn "What's Wrong with Sleep Training?" before you decide to use traditional sleep training methods like Ferber (timed checks) or cry it out. This series is designed to inform parents about infants' needs and correct misguided beliefs about their sleep. This episode also addresses what goes on during sleep regressions and what little ones need during these challenging periods.
Episode #19 features resident psychiatrist, Madalina Brencus from Romania. She also works at Sweet Slumber as a sleep coach, after completing the Sweet Slumber Sleep Coach Training Program. She is passionate about helping parents solve sleep problems using tear-free methods and helping them understand why their children struggle so they can support them fully. Madalina loves teaching parents how to empower their babies to sleep as well as possible, without sacrificing their well-being.
In this episode, we discuss some issues we have with old-fashioned sleep training such as, ignoring parental intuition and instincts, allowing babies to cry on their own when they are suffering and in need of care, misleading advice from experts who don't understand the nature of babies, and the common practice of repeating these methods (because there's no such thing as a magic cure!). Learn how to handle regressions and how to trust your intuition and instincts, and be in tune with your baby. Learn what your baby needs from you and what you have to look forward to as your child grows, as you are supportive and patient with them.
This is a beautiful, inspiring interview that you'll want to listen to again and again.

If you're planning to improve your baby's or toddler's sleep and you don't know which solutions to use, this is a great episode to watch! It's important to learn as much as you can about your child's needs and well-being, as you plan your child's sleep journey. We're introducing a new podcast series about the problems with cry-it-out, Ferber (timed checks), and traditional sleep training practices to educate parents and help them make the best parenting decisions.
These methods teach parents to Ignore children's cries (no matter the type of cry), hold back comfort, and force little ones to become independent, whether or not they are ready for it. Parents often ignore their intuition, their instincts, and their connection with their children while using these methods. These methods can cause lasting consequences for many babies and toddlers. We'd like to hear what the experts say about these issues and other concerns that they might have.
This episode features Dr. Laura Gainche, PhD, holistic sleep coach, and sleep scientist. In her sleep coaching work, she focuses on building connections, relying on science, and meeting the unique needs of children. What are oral ties? These are bands of tissue that form under the tongue, inside the upper and lower lip, and inside the cheeks. It's normal to have them. Do you want to take care of your body and mind, but find it hard to prioritize yourself?
It’s not easy for mothers to find time to properly care for themselves, and at times it can be hard to get out of survival mode. That’s why it will be great to learn from experts like Lisa Westhorpe, a mother and occupational therapist. She spent years working with children and the elderly, and found her career very rewarding. But, when she became a mother, she was startled to find very little support and information to help her adjust to her new role.
Can you relate to the lack of support and how that affected you? Lisa found it hard to take care of her body and mind because no one prepared her for this transition into motherhood. She didn't realize that she needed more instruction and information to successfully manage postpartum recovery or how to support the new demands placed on her body. Despite her background as an occupational therapist, she developed an injury while caring for her new baby from repetitious movements. But, Lisa turned something difficult around. These experiences compelled her to seek further education and training in maternal healthcare, led her in a new direction in her career, and inspired a passion for supporting new mothers!

This episode features an interview with Amanda Bennett, host of the "Gotcha Mama" podcast. Amanda shares the difficulties she experienced when she had her first child. It was challenging to become a mother, as it can be for many of us. But Amanda realized later that she didn’t take good care of herself or seek enough help from others, because she didn't understand her own needs and there wasn't enough guidance, information, or community support available.
Amanda started a podcast to build her own community of support and fellowship for mothers. As she learned from other moms and reflected on her own experiences, Amanda created a plan for how she would approach postpartum with her second child. Her mission was successful! The second time around was completely opposite of when she had her first child; she felt like herself, wasn't completely overwhelmed, and felt whole much sooner. Amanda shares her secrets to a better postpartum experience in the episode.

Thank you so much for tuning in to today's very important podcast! In this episode, I'll have an inspiring conversation with Jenny Hladun who just a short time ago, became a first time mom. Our conversation covers a wide sweep of important touch points that all center on managing postpartum depression and anxiety, the role that good sleep habits have on the severity of postpartum, and giving yourself a bit more grace as you figure out how to do this mothering thing with those around you, and individually. "...We need to support each other as moms and not be comparing ourselves to each other, there's no finish line, there's no first-place prize in this thing of motherhood. It is a community of moms and we have such a large community of women that have gone through this. I think we need to look at each other and say, “You're part of my tribe, you're part of this community"... instead of comparing ourselves to each other, and saying, “Well, am I doing as good as them? Are they doing as good as me?” We should all just look at each other and say, “We're doing the best that we can. What can I do to help you?” - Jenny Hladun Topics:
