We speak with Jasper on the eve of the re-opening of Merah Putih after being closed for the past 2.5 years. We chatted about how the idea of a high end Indonesian restaurant came about and its overnight success when it first opened back in 2013. Merah Putih is reopening quite significantly on 17th August 2022, Indonesia’s Independence Day and we talk a little bit about the History of Indonesia becoming independent from the Dutch in 1945. In Season 2 Episode 4 of Bali Insiders we talk to Lynley Le Grand, owner of The Corner House Bali and 2002 Bali Bombings Survivor.
Lynley shares with us her incredible story of being a starry eyed 22 year old, who had just completed University and travelled to Bali to start her own import export business. She travelled on her own but met up with a friend from Australia that fateful night and they headed off to Paddies Night club. Within 20 minutes of them arriving a man with a back pack walked in and set off a bomb. The unbelievable story that follows is what nightmares are made of.
However this horrific experience could not destroy the love that Lynley had for Bali and she returned many times before her and her Husband made the decision to move their Family to the Island to live permanently where they now run the successful Corner House Bali in Seminyak. Lynley was incredibly generous to share her experience with us and we really hope you enjoy this episode.
