The Artscene is a journal of the contemporary art world, discovering new artists and cultures by sharing their stories.
In this channel you'll find episodes of artist interviews, exhibition reviews, looks at the contemporary art market, and other explorations in English or Japanese to get to know more about the art world.
[英 / English] Both Lisa and Eric have been busy curating art shows!
Lisa curated the first official The Artscene event in Tokyo for Japanese artist Yuri Okada titled Illusions of Lake Surface. The show was held in Ginza at SpaceTGC and was even mentioned in Tokyo Art Beat!
At the time of recording, Eric is in the process of curating a group exhibition for ArtCrib in Los Angeles. The show is titled in common.

世界中を旅する中で、会社員から画家に転身した彼女。
「抽象画に可能性を感じる」と語る意図に迫ります。
【プロフィール】
岡田友里 | Yuri Okada
岡田友里は大阪府生まれで、現在は那須を拠点に活動している画家です。ものごとをありのまま見る体験の創出につながりうるという観点から、抽象画を中心に制作しています。
作品の特徴は、景色のようにも、何かの現象のようにも、また全く別の何かのようにも見えること。見る人の心模様によって印象が変わり、まるで自分の心を映し出す鏡のような絵を描いています。
岡田のミッションは、一人ひとりが自分であることに安堵する世界をつくること。彼女の作品は、見る人に意識と向き合う瞬間を提供し、自己とのつながりを深める機会を提供します。

In this Japanese language episode, Lisa shares the 3 Exhibitions that Wowed her in 2021, as a companion piece to her article 5 Artists Who Wowed Me in 2021. This past year, Lisa visited 40 exhibitions in Paris, Basel, Lyon, Tokyo and Kyoto. From these many shows, the most outstanding aspects included themes of diversity in the art.
