Born out of St. Mathew's Mar Thoma Church, Light the Way is a long-term educational project for Malayalees, Christians, South Asians, and anyone who wishes to understand the various world crises we are facing today. Centred around Jesus' teachings of radical love, peace, and justice for all, the Mar Thoma Youth seeks to light the way forward to a brighter and safer future, especially for those most disadvantaged in our society.
Sheldon and Roshney unpack the history and the role of the Samaritans in the Gospel. They also discuss how we can apply Jesus’ teachings on the Samaritans to our current world context and the litanies of injustices, social discrimination, and economic inequalities of the modern world. How can we mirror the “good Samaritan” and follow Christ’s example of radical, selfless love and compassion? How can we show true faith and devotion in all things, and turn inaction into action?
Rev. Moncy Varghese of St. Mathews MarThoma Church opens our seminar with blessings and a prayer. Roshney discussions prisons and police violence using the documentary 13th as a resource to unpack the complexity of social issues like racism and inequality.
Roshney leads a seminar on Policing in Canada, and why us Canadians should not be so quick to believe ourselves faultless from systemic racism and oppression.
On October 18th, Roshney gives a sermon on the topic of Family as a Place of Faith Formation. She reflects on her own name, family, place, and faith, and what lessons she has learned thus far on her journey.
Sheldon leads this seminar and takes us back to our Sunday school history lessons! He talks about the history of the Marthoma Church, our anti-colonial roots, and notable Marthoma leaders who stood firm against injustice.
In this seminar, Sheldon introduces us to Indigenous world-views and what we as Christians can learn from Indigenous cosmologies and way of life. This seminar asks us to consider: What is our responsibility as followers of Christ to Indigenous communities around the world? How might we better support Indigenous communities and their rights within Canada? How might we learn to walk the path of reconciliation with Indigenous people?
Roshney introduces a new social justice initiative from the St. Mathews MarThoma Church youth in Milton, Ontario. Shoutout to Dr. Dharius Daniels and the creators of Avatar: the Last Airbender for the inspiration.
