Happy in-between Mother's and Father's Day, everyone. Whether you are a parent, guardian, family member, or friend, it takes a village to raise children.

I recently had the opportunity to sit and listen to the Byess family about their experiences raising two children during the 80s and 90s. The challenges they faced and overcame in their early years as parents and shared how their definition of parenting expanded beyond the traditional roles of mom and dad, especially with the help of the kid's aunt and uncle. How the teenage years brought new challenges, but the family navigated them together and ultimately helped their children transition into adulthood. It is clear from this conversation that this family's love and dedication to their children never will waver.

I enjoyed speaking with Aidan Collins about the popular card-playing game Yu-Gi-Oh in today's episode. In this first part of a two-episode series, we delve into the game's history, layout, and card types. We also discuss how to read the cards, the number of cards available, and some of the game's unique idiosyncrasies. Remember to return next week for part 2, where we will dive deeper into game strategy and tournament play.

Paron and I pick back up in our discussion on stereotypes and double standards. We bring in several elements to consider while you are listening, such as the importance of recognizing the impact of censorship and social media on these issues. It's also interesting to consider the influence of celebrities and politicians on double standards in terms of establishing norms we observe in daily life. I especially like the term used by Paron, "overstand," which emphasizes the importance of empathy and lifelong learning. Most of all, as you listen to the episode, try to come away with the idea that everyone has their unique approach to life, so let's try and work together to learn and make this world a better place for us all.

In this episode, I speak with a former guest, Paron, about the prevalent social issue of stereotypes that we all face daily. Together, we will explore our thoughts on why we believe stereotypes exist, their impact on our lives, and potential ways to address and overcome them. I promise this to be an insightful and thought-provoking 2 part conversation.

Have you read Christen King's personal narrative "Miracles & Freak Accidents"? It's a powerful book that explores her experiences with love, loss, and trauma. She writes with raw honesty and vulnerability, sharing her journey of healing and self-discovery. The book is a reminder that even in the darkest of times, we can find hope and strength within ourselves. I highly recommend giving it a read.

It has been a wonderful year in podcasting, and what a way to bring it to an end with my holiday episode. With this year's holiday episode, I reached out to the North Pole and was able to get connected with Santa Steve Herring, who was my elementary school PE teacher.

During our conversation, we discuss his journey as Santa, covering topics of his many years of experience, family traditions that impacted him, Santa code of ethics, Santa organizations, his custom suits, how his business works, the behind-the-scenes workings of each gig, and some tricks of the trade. This was truly an amazing conversation that I hope brings joy to all who hear it. Have a safe and happy holiday season.

In this episode, I find myself returning to the nostalgia of sitting in front of my computer in elementary, middle, and high school, enjoying playing MechWarrior 2 & 3 games, both recommended by my buddy Zach. During episode 1 of 2, we go into the background of BattleTech and MechWarrior, his introduction to the series, and the origins of the series.

Correction at 13 minutes and 18 seconds when talking about the Shadowhawk being from Crusher Joe, it is wrong. It comes from an anime called Sun Dougram.

Congrats, we made it to 2 years of Learning From Friends. On this special occasion, I have a former guest, Andrew McEntyre return to the podcast to interview me about my 4-week long adventure I did this summer in the United Kingdom, during which 3 of those weeks I lived at the Manjushri Kadampa Meditation Centre in Ulverston down in the Lake District of England. This was an experience for me to find something more about myself by leaving my comfort zone to challenge myself to learn and grow away from home and in an unfamiliar atmosphere that could support me at that time.

During the conversation, Andrew helped paint a beautiful picture of my experiences from the lead-up to departure on the trip, the ups and downs, the people I met along the way, lessons learned, and what the future may bring in my adventures. I hope you enjoy it along with the last 2 years of episodes recorded. I look forward to sharing more as the podcast continues to grow.

During this final installment of this 3 part episode series of the pro wrestling round table discussion, we wrap up the discussion of our favorites: storylines / feuds, matches, stipulations, finishers, belt, and crowd chants. As we wrap up our favorites, we talk about those wrestlers we wish got the big push that deserved it, creating our dream matches, creating our own gimmick, and ending the series with where we see going forward in the future.

I will cherish this series of 3 episodes for a long time as I got to sit down with some of my best friends and talk about one of our favorite things that bonds us together: PRO WRESTLING. My dad Donald, brother Corey, Ryan Wright, Chris Byess, Joseph Mize, Daniel Murphy, and myself. After watching AEW All In from Wimbley Stadium in London, England, we gathered up around a table and talked wrestling for a little over 3 hours, which has turned into a 3 part series.

Welcome to part 2 of a 2-part episode where I speak to my friend Jade B about being a Military Spouse.

Being a spouse is a responsibility not to take likely that is why they use the words for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness, and in health during wedding ceremonies. Imagine you are separated from your spouse for anywhere between 4 to 8 months a year with parts of that time not having contact, have 2 kids that your spouse will miss some milestones in your kid's lives, you also homeschool the 2 kids, moved 7 times in 12 years, and have to make some really tough important decisions without your spouse being there. Welcome to the life of this military spouse, my friend Jade B. I hope you enjoy this journey with Jade and I on discussing her life as a military spouse.

During this episode, I revisited a topic with a different twist from not too long ago. Most of us have driven around in all different types of cars: makes and models, as they play a major part in our lives; some of us have fonder memories of cars our family members have driven, ones we drove, or the fascination of the culture surrounding them. Today I am speaking with a friend/ co-worker; who has that connection with Jeep's. Especially since we are coming up on Jeep Fest soon, I figured this was the perfect time for this episode.

In this episode, we hear about the journey of a ride on the Transamerica trail route from Virginia to Oregon, 4,063 miles in 83 days. Mark needed some adventure in his life after finishing college, and he and two friends took a cross-country adventure to fill that desire. During the episode, we learn about their prepping for the adventure, the people they met along the way, the psychological toll it took on them, the weather, the importance of communication, entertaining themselves, their diet, crossing the Appalachian and Rocky Mountains, and how God played a role in this mission ride that changed their lives.

I recommend listening in at 59 minutes and 16 seconds to get a key wrap-up of what Mark learned from this adventure.

In this episode, I am honored to have my friend Daniel as he shares what it's like living behind his eyes. Daniel is diagnosed with Asperger's which is a form of Autism Spectrum Disorder, a developmental disorder that can lead to having a difficult time relating to others socially, and their behavior and thinking patterns can be rigid and repetitive. Throughout the episode Daniel opens up about a wide range of topics to better help you understand him as a person, not a diagnosis some things we discuss are therapies, struggles, schooling, family, communication, sensory, routine, work, social cues, relationships, coping mechanisms, resources, and more as you find several gems throughout.

The big takeaway that I hope you come away with from this episode is that in our lives, we will cross paths with people that change us. As we meet someone new unknowingly we try to place them in boxes or categories. Sometimes you can see someone is different on the surface, hear it in their voice, or they will share something with you about themselves that changes your perspective. Never judge that person as a result even if it's an unknown to you, take the time to become knowledgeable because that person may change your world like Daniel has done for me.

My friend today is Derek Weinrich, and what we are discussing is the magic that comes from reading about events and places in history and then traveling to these locations to soak in the moments where these events took place whether it is local or international its life-changing because it changes your perspective about things when you see it in person because our history helps us understand how events in the past made things the way they are today. That being said, we are not experts, just enthusiasts sharing our joys.

There is a lot being said out there about cannabis and I had the great privilege of sitting down with a very knowledgeable friend to help shed some light on the topic. Garrett currently manages a Hemp and CBD shop and has a true passion for the products he sells and uses. With each topic, we are going to discuss some specific questions and concepts. Below is a list.

CBD: what is the chemical compound, usages, how it works, effects, ways to consume, dosage, finding reputable brands, economic impact, and legalities.

HEMP: environmental impact, historical background, uses, how is it grown, how its processed, effects, and the prospective future of the industry.

My guest today comes not from my usual connection of friendships that I grew up with or have close contact with. This is a friend of my wife’s she met during college. We met a few times, and this is how I learned that I am a fan of what she does for a living. Kim works in the field of Historical preservation / architectural history. I look forward to learning more about such a fascinating field that I am thankful we have in this world because so much of our pasts would be forgotten without it.

We discuss Safety, Sustainability, Efficiency /  Cost (Conversion Efficiency, Operational  Costs),  Environmental Impacts, real estate,  and Consistency. Around the end of the episode, we discuss the nuclear disasters of Chernobyl and Fukushima and the avoided potential seven-mile island incident. This is an extraordinary holiday episode where we will be talking with my Father-In-Law, Ken about what Christmas has meant to him over the years. We discuss food, traditions home, mail, school, religion, music, weather, gifts,  and family history with the holiday season. It is incredible to hear the evolution that makes up my Christmas memories as I get to peek behind the curtain and listen to it from a place where I can understand and respect the things my wife's parents had done for her, along with what his parents had done for them. This reminds me of the importance of family during the holiday season and how lucky I am to have such a loving,  supportive family that has helped guide me on this journey. I hope you enjoy this in-depth conversation with my Father-In-Law, Ken. I encourage you this  Holiday season to ask those who helped raise you and learn more about  their lives and stories around this holiday season. Spread the cheer and spread the love. Most of all, I hope you have a very happy holiday season.

Let's continue with part 2 of the Great Mullinator. In this episode, we focus more on her time in the classroom, where we learn about how she handled teaching new students music and discipline, moving from teaching middle school to high school, the ins, and outs of marching band season, the importance of the band boosters, and ending off with some fan questions. Again this was such an impactful person in my music life that I cannot thank her enough for what she has done for me, along with 1,000+ students over the years.

It's time for that special edition Halloween episode of Learning From Friends, and the guest I have on today fits the bill perfectly. My friend Dak and I have known each other for about 18 years. Out of all my friends, if I ever was trapped in a horror film situation and had to make it out alive, I hope he would be there to navigate me through the experience. His collection of knowledge, figurines, and endless conversation on horror films, specifically of the slasher subgenre, made it an easy choice to have Dak as my guest for this Halloween edition episode.

It is beyond an honor to have Paron return to the podcast to help bring awareness to another critical issue overlooked in our communities. The “school-to-prison pipeline” is a disturbing national trend wherein youth are funneled out of public schools and into the juvenile and criminal legal systems. Many of these youth are Black or Brown, have disabilities or histories of poverty, abuse, or neglect, and would benefit from additional support and resources. Instead, they are isolated, punished, and pushed out. As you listen to the episode, I encourage you to think from your perspective as a parent, guardian, relative, student, teacher, or friend. Everyone will have their own opinion, which is ok; just because it is different doesn’t always mean it's wrong. So please consider this as you go forward with this episode.

There are several issues in the United States today that are challenging and starting to change as our country's landscape and awareness are being addressed.  Some are more visible, while most are heavily overlooked due to stereotypes and entrenched beliefs that have yet to go away. In this episode, I speak to a good friend, Paron, a black male entrepreneur in Athens, GA. His struggles are a nationwide issue, but it is a lot worse in the south as we are still unentrenched in old ideologies that have held back advancements to some within this community. After speaking with a former guest Robby about the University of Georgia football, I decided I needed another perspective on the other side of the famous Georgia Florida Rivalry. My good friend Ryan is a lifelong fan, so I pick his brain about the topic to help better understand what it means to be a Florida Gator fan and briefly discuss Ryan's opinion on NCAA player likeness.

In this episode, I am discussing music’s evolution from the 1950s growing up on the west coast upwards to today's world living on the east coast from a perspective of a professional drummer who lived it. We discuss how he became a drummer, growing up, styles of music he enjoyed, techniques, people he has played with, advice to new and older musicians, what the industry was like, and how the industry game changed when DJs came into the scene and much more. There was so much to cover in this episode so I turned it into a 2 part episode so please tune in if you enjoyed part one.

In this episode, I am doing a continuation on the topic of friendship; in the previous episode, I spoke with my longest known friend Eden. In this episode, I am talking with my closest friend Garrison Copeland. All friendships are essential, with each different playing role in our lives. The significant difference with this friendship is the face-to-face time invested. Garrison and I went from elementary school through college, lived, traveled around the United States, fought with each other, and continue to grow our friendship each day even though now we live in different states. We share fun stories, moments of change, good and bad, throughout the episode, and how we adapted and grew because of our differences. There is a lot to take away from this episode about how friendships grow through thick and thin.

Today I am speaking with my longest known friend. We literally go back to the crib. We discuss how friendships can evolve over the years when you don’t go to the same schools and only see each other a handful of times a year or sometimes years, but there is still an unspoken bond. Also, I speak with her about her fascinating career of being a pediatric dental hygienist.

This episode focuses on my friend's experience with Postpartum Psychosis, a topic that needs more worldly attention and awareness brought to it. Postpartum Psychosis is a serious mental health issue that has been overlooked for generations in our health community. Roughly 1 in 500 mothers are affected by Postpartum Psychosis within two weeks of giving birth to their beautiful baby. During this time, a mother's worldly perspective changes with delusions and sometimes even hallucinations, all of which feel very real to them. Postpartum Psychosis is not the same as postpartum depression, so please take a moment to educate yourself, and if you are an expecting parent, ask these questions of your doctors.

In this episode, I talk with my good friend Tony, who is passionate about bowling, and the band KISS. Bowling is a great place to meet and create new friendships, and today's conversation is a sign of that. During our talk, we dive into the game's evolution, small tips for beginners, and knowledge for that bowler looking to increase their average. You can hear the passion in his voice about both topics, but when we get on to the band KISS, I know I hit a sweet spot. I cannot imagine a better evening than spending time learning about people's passions. Enjoy.

This is an extraordinary holiday episode where we will be talking with my Mom about what Christmas has meant to her over the years. We discuss food, traditions home, mail, school, religion, music, weather, gifts, and family history with the holiday season. It is incredible to hear the evolution that makes up my Christmas memories as I get to peek behind the curtain and listen to it from in a place where I can understand and respect the things my parents had done for me along with what their parents had done from them. This reminds me of the importance of family during the holiday season and how lucky I am to have such a loving, supportive family that has helped guide me on this journey. I hope you, enjoy this in-depth conversation with my Mom. I encourage you this Holiday season to ask those who helped raise you and learn more about their lives and stories around this holiday season. Spread the cheer and spread the love. Most of all I hope you have a very happy holiday season.

As I speak with Ashely you will come to notice her passion for teaching her music students, in-depth knowledge of the industry, and a walk through her growth as she continues to blossom in the music industry. We each have our own opinions and beliefs and I feel honored that this was a safe place to talk about this topic with her.
