It's International Women's Day today (March 8th) and in this episode of the Kincardine Strong Podcast I speak to Michelle Lamont of the Women's House Serving Bruce & Grey to talk about the empowering work that they do locally.
The Women’s House provides a safe haven for victims/survivors that need support against abuse. Their mission is to work towards ending violence through knowledge (which is power), in order to create and sustain change. This support is offered to the community at no cost and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year.

In this episode of the Kincardine Strong Podcast I have the honour of chatting with a woman that needs little introduction in the Nuclear Industry or the Municipality of Kincardine, Ms. Tracy Primeau.
Ms. Primeau began her career in 1990 at the Ontario Power Generation Pickering Nuclear Generating Station as a Nuclear Operator in Training, and was qualified as a Nuclear Operator at Pickering A in 1992. Three years later, she moved home to Kincardine and became a qualified Nuclear Operator at Bruce A, progressing to Authorized Nuclear Operator and eventually to Shift Manager in 2010. She is one of the few women to become a CNSC licensed operator at Bruce Power (the first at Bruce A) and the only female Shift Manager to work her way up from the shop floor.
Throughout her career she has been a tireless communicator, having been an active member of Women in Nuclear (WiN) Canada, where she currently holds a WiN Canada Board position. She has also participated in numerous activities with local communities, including job fairs at local Indigenous communities, STEM camps, and public awareness and education sessions.
Ms. Primeau is also a mentor and role model to many men and women in the energy sector, often sharing insights from her nuclear career at conferences, professional development events and other initiatives.
Tracy is a proud member of the Nipissing First Nation and was a founding member of the Ontario Hydro Native Circle in 1992 and was the first Chair of the Bruce Power Native Circle, a position she held for many years. She strives to use the Seven Grandfather Teachings in her leadership every day.
Raising her two boys with her husband Dave, Tracy has always been active in her community. Currently she is the Board Chair of the Women’s House Serving Bruce & Grey, works on the executive of the Kincardine Bulldogs and sits on the three committees of council, two of which she shares. She has years of volunteer and board experience both in the energy industry and in various other organizations.
Recently retired from Bruce Power, Tracy has joined the Ontario Power Generation board of directors and is focused on giving back working on climate change and Indigenous knowledge.

Mentoring is an important way to give youth experience with these essential back-and-forth relationships, developing them into healthy young people better able to deal with and overcome life’s adversities.
On this episode of the Kincardine Strong Podcast we welcome Cheryl Cottrill, Co-Chair and Founder of the Huron Shores Hospice to introduce and give an inside look at the hospice to understand what it took to establish a community funded Hospice. Also to explain what work happens behind the scenes to keep it operating and supporting the community. This allows people in our community to have the right to die close to home with dignity and surrounded by loved ones.
