Since 1821, Amherst has prepared critical and creative thinkers for lives of purpose and discovery. Amherst at 200: Celebrating Mind, Heart, and Community, released as a part of our Bicentennial celebration and narrated by Tony, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Jeffrey Wright ’87, showcases the stories of 10 graduates from 70 years ago until the present. Each story is both a snapshot of life on campus and a reflection of the richness of an Amherst education. Tony Jack ’07, through personal experience and social research, explores how race and class impact the academic experience. Kathy Chia ’88 shows how the liberal arts can inform the architectural design process. Bill Pritchard ’53 describes how the College can change and grow without sacrificing what makes it special. Plus, current Amherst president Biddy Martin and past presidents Tony Marx and Tom Gerety reflect on their experiences at the College and the importance of the liberal arts in higher education. Listen to the stories and voices that make up the 200-year history of Amherst. Produced by Cadence13, in collaboration with Amherst College.
