Hi everyone! Welcome to my podcast!!! I’m really excited to be sharing this with people. My name is NJ, I use he/him pronouns, and this is my podcast for exploring intersectionality within the queer community. The stories shared on this podcast are meant to shed light on experiences that are often overlooked within the queer community, and I’m hoping that this podcast helps others feel seen. COVID has made community building especially hard, so to all those who have felt excluded or invisible within the LGBTQ+ community, I hear you, I see you, and I’m sending so much love.
Organized religion has caused a lot of harm to the LGBTQ+ community, and I don’t want to detract from that at all. But as someone who grew up religious and still finds some parts of religion helpful when navigating difficult times, I want to shed light on this coexistence between the two. Join me and Jianna as we talk about Catholicism, queerness, decolonization and more as we talk about our religious identities (or perhaps, explore them) in the context of our sexuality.
Sexuality and gender identity are always politicized, and growing up in conservative areas makes it even harder to navigate that. I had the pleasure of talking about this with Merissa, who grew up in Texas. To anyone who may currently feel unsafe in your home and community, I hope you find solace in this episode and please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I know I talked about race in the last episode but I cannot stress this enough: these singular stories do NOT REPRESENT THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY! Race in and of itself is so layered so I will gladly talk about it again to give space to QTPOCs. With that being said, listen in on this episode where I talk about race and masculinity with Darren. “Masc for masc” and “anti-femme” sentiments are rampant in the queer community, especially within the gay community. In this FIRST first episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Raven Yamamoto on race within the LGBTQ+ community. Here, we talk about our shared experiences of growing up in Hawaii and navigating Asian American identity. I had so much fun reconnecting with an old friend and I hope you enjoy our conversation!
Hi hi! Welcome to my podcast! This first episode is just an introduction to what this podcast is, why I did it, and what I'm hoping to accomplish. Is this a project for school? Maybe...BUT I'm hoping for this to turn into a consistent thing to continuously learn and engage with the vast array of identities within the LGBTQ+ community! Hope you enjoy hearing about me and my wonderful guests in the coming episodes.
Also, this is my first time making a podcast/putting out vulnerable content like this so please be kind and understanding. For instance, did I use the pre-recorded transitions on Anchor? Yes. Is my sound quality in some episodes questionable? Most definitely. But will any of that takeaway from the fact that what I'll be talking about is important and pertinent to current times? Absolutely not.
