We encounter a boy who loves Beethoven and structures. We try to find the courage required to lead a life surrounded by great pitfalls and uncertainties, and after long explorations find that maybe it was right in front of us - In the things that have a core. The Core. The beauty of belonging. Maybe as long as we have that, we dare. Welcome to the composition process. The creation of The Gratitude Concert.

We meet a little boy racing to meet time at the top of a mountain. We encounter grief, a strange creature who looks you straight in the eye and ties rocks to your gut with big hooks. It's a race against time, in life and beyond and the hope that we get to be with those we love, for as long as possible. We call the little boy Hermes. The runner. The fastest of the gods. Welcome to the composition process. The creation of The Gratitude Concert.

In this session we try to find universal aspects in a story of a life that was just about to begin, however late, when the illness ME came crashing through the door. We create themes representing the different powers at play, and merge them with previous ideas to create continuity. We long for a sense of justice. Welcome to the composition process. The creation of The Gratitude Concert.

In this session we take root in a story I received from a flourist who was bedridden for 5 years without getting any help. That was until she found the cause herself. Lethal parasites. You can find the story here - She suggested I share it: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10503761/Florist-57-agony-dismissed-FIVE-years-lethal-snake-parasite-body.html This session had a complex and long start, because there are so many implications to this story. We talk about rules vs the univeral and try to take her experience of distrust in the health care system and transfer it into an imaginary dialogue between her and the doctor who neglected her. We reference the themes and try to get something new into the structure whilst holding on to the core. It turns dark and bright, emotional and honest. Then she plants a tree. In the middle of the composition. Welcome to the composition process. The creation of The Gratitude Concert.

We find the foundation of the musical motifs in a story from a mother who lives with Ménière's disease, an illness that destroys your balance and keeps you seasick, with all that comes with that. Her symbolic entrance into the composition will be as a captain sailing between two worlds, the intimate world and the big world. She carries her condition like a snowglobe in a blizzard, always trying to find the horizon, looking out for her kids and fighting to get the family safe to shore. Welcome to the composition process. In this, the first live composition session, we introduce the main theme - the anchor for the composition process and find a foundation for the musical themes. They take the form of an ox and two birds - the symbolic image of the real life story. This session is based on a man I meet, whose wife and daughter both suffer from the chronic illness Myalgic Encephalomyelitis - An illness of the nervous, immune and hormone systems, and he is alone in caring for them, desperate to find a doctor who would help them. An emotional beginning. Welcome to the composition process. The creation of The Gratitude Concert.
