Not many in the Detroit electronic scene need an introduction to our featured guest for this mix, Jo Rad Silver (@joradsilver). Recorded after Yom Kippur services of 2021 on an empty stomach with two turntables and an old 2 band eq Rane mixer.
Somehow soft and fast while being hard and slow. Though not exclusively a Detroit mix, his heart and ass are deeply indebted to Detroit music so even the records that are not from Detroit feel like they are! Last month he brought back his live PA monthly, Technically, Yeah. to a new venue at UFO Factory. Though still tenuous, he is excited to get back to loud music in person!

We are happy to welcome maxiu (@maxiuxie)to our mix series! He is a Detroit based DJ/producer who originated from Beijing and Pittsburgh. His first introduction to rave culture was from China's booming alternative club scene, as he spun several times at DADA Beijing and MAO Livehouse. After moving to the US, he got heavily involved in Pittsburgh’s techno scene, frequenting underground hotspot Hot Mass.
He became the Business Manager and radio DJ at WRCT 88.3FM Pittsburgh from 2018-2020, while also throwing regular parties and events across the city. After moving to Detroit, he’s been an active as part of the 5th Dimension Detroit (@5thdimdet) performing at The High Dive, as well as being featured for local mix show Techno Snob (@techno-snob). maxiu’s passion in mixing evolves around textures and sculpting dreamy soundscapes, as he features selections from club, electro, trance and fast techno in this mix.

Glowing Terms (@glowing-terms) is the electronic project of Detroit-based artist Dj DeGennaro. Through his productions, mixes, songwriting & live events with post-rock band Goods, he aims to offer empowering messages of common humanity. Since releasing his debut Hold A Candle EP with @pitsdetroit, which itself is a reference to the human spirit alive in the cosmos at the dawn of machines, he continues to create art and spaces that are as challenging as they are splendid.
In this mix Dj pays homage to the music and culture of Detroit that brought him up as well as keeping it real with dope music from PITS and artists that inspire him.

Ariel Sports (@arielsports) is an artist and deejay from Detroit. She co-ran a collective called Fem Farm with her sister PrismViews, which prioritized transwomen, gender-non conforming, and queer DJs to experiment with sound and visuals. Her mix is a polyrhythmic journey of club constructions, genre-shifting distortions, and an ode to the global trans and queer community. Featuring selections from DJ Delish, Tama Gucci, PrismViews, Bapari, Tammy Lakkis, Yasmeenah, Estoc, and Club Eat.

We are happy to welcome JEM (@jem4u) to our PITSACST series!
She's the founder of Every Woman Music (@everywomanmusic), a Detroit-based initiative aimed at connecting women in the electronic music scene and helping them gain more experience, exposure and inclusion. Her passion is evident in this project, recently hosting a series of live streams to raise funds for a variety of charitable organizations while also using her platform to support femme artists trying to get a foothold in the music world.
As exemplified in this burning hot mix, her style tends to gravitate towards electro, breaks, and 90s rave material.She draws her inspiration from outer space, the jungle, the color blue, and late nights lurking in the depths of a dark after hours club.

Special edition mix for the end of Women's History Month ~~
dos leches (@doslechesdosleches) is self-taught dj based in Seattle. Of Venezuelan descent, she uses sound to probe the concepts of identity, power and history through a subversive lens. Drawing from life experiences and diasporic roots, dos leches uses sound as a form of emotional therapy. The diversity of places, ideas and cultures is evident in her enthusiasm for deep sounds from across all spectrums that promote movement as a form of revolt.
Born out of Seattle’s underground music scene, Lyric Hernando Weiss aka La Niña (@la_ninyaa__) is an indigenous filmmaker and increasingly prevalent DJ in the local community. Propelled by her desire to create a refreshing and inventive club experience, she first showcased her entirely self taught abilities at small art galleries before jumping onto bills of highly sought after parties such as Jet, Confess, and House Party, until eventually snagging prime time slots at events like Kremwerk Pride. Just slightly over a year into her djing career she also co-founded and ran a bi-monthly show located in the heart of Capitol Hill called Artifact, and a couple years later, started opening for renowned producer giants such as Kittens - her biggest dj crush. Brought up by a family of musicians, her eclectic tastes make her extremely versatile, the result consistently ending in evocative and dynamic mixes that fluidly interweave everything from techno, DnB, experimental sound design, hip hop, club and more.
Dylan Fleck aka BIMBO HYNOSIS (@bimbohypnosis) is an Indigenous DJ and producer native to the Seattle area. As one of the founding members of BABEXHOUSE, she helped guide them through their original residency at Kremwerk nightclub. Dylan has been passionate about music from a young age, studying Jazz and Blues piano for several years before getting into production. She has been performing under a number of aliases since the late 2000s, and wrote her first track at 8 years old with Cakewalk and a Roland XP. She's currently working on several solo and collaborative projects which will be released later in 2021
Seattle-based N SO (@n-so)has been a part of the local underground music community since 2015, dedicated to creating a dynamic club experience that is as engaging as it is challenging. Her alias stems from the Zen word ensō, a circle that is hand-drawn in one uninhibited brushstroke to express a moment when the mind is free to let the body create. ‘N SO’ seeks to embody a feeling more than it serves as an identity.
NXMXGXLDXX or DJ Mutual Respekt births polymorphous post black & posthumanist soundscapes for enthusiasts especially of avant garde “refixes” or interested in a plethora of dynamic vibes; through but not limited to club, rap, metal, and electronic. These manifestations, encompassed by a thought provoked navigation to our own iconoclastic counterculture engineered by focus of fashion, art, music, nightlife & entertainment, & black activist teachings.

Ambient music is tricky business. It's finding the right balance between being open-ended and giving your listener something to hold on to. Part of what makes COMBAT//MOMMY fka Ancient Mariner so compelling is her willingness to break the mold. Her debut LP, Forever::Hotel, ambitiously infuses wandering swaths of synths with distant high-hats and trap-like beats. It never loses the immersive, longing that draws listeners in to ambient music while utilizing rhythm as a not-so-secret ingredient. Forever::Hotel veers between short, episodic moments to lengthy jams like the meme-inspired "Protecc:Attac" that you wouldn't mind hearing going on forever.

Auntie Chanel is an activist , event coordinator, DJ, and emerging graphic designer residing in Detroit, Michigan. As a Black femme, her voice and cultural work has been instrumental in the restructure happening within the queer dance scene and businesses alike within the city. She has curated and collaborated on numerous events that uplift, empower and provide alternative economy for BIPOC, transwomxn, and queer people.

Along with our new releases, we also wanted to bring back our PITSCAST series to start featuring DJ's again! Our first guest is Andrea Kalajian (@andreakalajian) with a fresh mix of classic house goodness ^_^ Andrea and her co-conspirator Adam Charles run a bi-weekly socially-distanced gathering called HEATER on Saturday nights at The High Dive, featuring a wide variety of fire selectors playing hot tracks. They've also been providing much needed relief to Detroiters with their open-air "Deep in the Cut" series taking place in the freight yard of the Dequindre Cut. Andrea has recently produced a couple singles titled "It's All In Your Mind" and "FRIENDS", both available for free download on SoundCloud. Check out this mix and tune in to what she's got going on!

We have enjoyed experiencing her live sets as well, having made a splash into the Detroit scene recently, getting connected with the venerable Seraphine Collective. Volast (@volast) is officially the little brother of the Detroit electronic music scene. He has already shown his skills with production on his prior EP release with us here at PITS. He is back again, this time with a DJ mix featuring smooth blends of minimal house and techno. Just the right vibe to kick Monday off with a vengeance. Being a co-founder of PITS, he stays close to the sounds coming from across the pond and helps inform the direction of the label. Alex Wilcox (@alexwilcoxx)is another exciting newcomer to the Detroit underground with a lot of great talent to share! He was born in Dallas, moved to Austin, then to LA, spent time in Berlin, and now he’s based in Detroit. He’s worked on very wide array of musical projects, even doing vocal mixing for a member of @bangtan! With his move to Detroit, Alex has focused his vision more on DJing, powered by his eclectic and diverse range of electronic productions. He’s since established a reputation quickly spinning at TV Lounge, El Club, The Orange Room, and other popular Detroit hangouts. He’s excited to have completed production on his first album! He has also cooked up an EP with DJ Holographic (@djholographic) - Parallel Shifting - that is coming soon, as well as separate projects with TYLR_ (@tylrdetroit) and Stacey Hotwaxx (@hotwaxx). Expect an onslaught of original music over the next year as this serial producer emerges. It's twentieth edition of our podcast series, and we are excited to share a mix from minimalerror (@madeinathens) to accompany his release, also dropping on the label this week! Born in Athens and working in Bristol, he has certainly seen his fair share of dance culture. Its a bit of a special edition for our podcast, because our history with the wonderfully, tantalizing force of TYLR_ (@tylrdetroit) begins over 5 years ago at the well known Temple Bar on Cass Ave. He and his partner Steven Reaume have consistently been a positive force in the city, creating the best parties and introducing us to the best new talents!
We have personally benefited from this, having great support from their organization of Norway Detroit (@norwaydetroit) when PITS was just an idea, and we had few connections. Flash forward to now, and he is poised to play his debut set at Movement Electronic Music Festival this weekend in Hart Plaza! His set runs from 2-3:30pm on Saturday, the first day of the fest ~

Tammy Lakkis (@tammylakkis) is taking over the world, and we couldn't be happier 😄 She is an exciting sound maker in Detroit with an eclectic style not dissimilar to a creepy carnival ride. 🎠 This all-vinyl mix of evil fun house grooves celebrates the coexistence of dark and light. ☯️ She will be playing an event at The High Dive in Hamtramck tomorrow night (May 9 2018) with two other great artists Marshall Applewhite(@marshall-applewhite) and Jakob Harris (@audiaux)!

Permeator (@permeator) is back with a heaping helping of techno to compliment his recent release on our PRMR series! The track selection has a dark feel that matches his own productions and this mix just keeps hissing, thumping, and flowing along in the best ways. Recently playing a comeback set at Bunker in Toronto, expect to see him on PITS lineups with more releases to come! 🔥
Next up on our podcast series is a mind-melting mix from Cyber Girl (@cybergirlfab) including plenty of highly acidic material (^_^) She is a talented DJ and producer of Spanish descent, with a foot in both Detroit and Ann Arbor. She is part of the electronic music collective MEMCO (@memco) throwing great parties in our sister city with an authentic focus on inclusiveness and diversity.
Jaco Matthews (@jacomatthews) is a fresh new talent on the Detroit scene with some serious style and a penchant for seriously groovy disco cuts. We caught his set at Dally in the Alley this past summer and he had people stomping in the afternoon! He and co-conspirator Gino (@ginoisland) have a social happy hour at TV Lounge on Thursdays called Snack Time, featuring hot tunes and hot food. He also hosts regular gigs at Whiskey Disco. Pure Rave (@purerave) is an experimental electronic noise project from Bryan Dulaney (@bleft_lord) and Nick George. The two are like techno geologists, digging up crazy sounds while throwing traditional 4/4 tools out the window. Both are active in the Detroit music scene as well. Nick provides great Japanese foods under his alias Dr. Sushi, while Bryan is a key figure in the elusive Adult Contemporary. They will be hosting a show with Pure Rave at Donovan's in southwest on Dec 22nd!
Peter Croce (@petercroce) is the founder and purveyor of fellow Detroit label Rocksteady Disco (@rocksteadydisco), and he does a prime job putting together great records and hosting fantastic events. Most can attest that he has been a strong supporter of the dance scene in the city, recently moving back from Chicago (another great city all the same ;) and rekindling his much-loved Sermon events at Temple Bar. This is a special mix, recorded live at Hot Mass (@hot-mass)in Pittsburgh to a very well received event with co-conspirator Pontchatrain (@pontchartrain)!
EZ Rowe has chosen to keep their identity obscure, however they call Detroit home and if you have frequented the after hours you have certainly encountered them. This mix from Rowe will transport your mind to that dark and foggy place and drip acid down your spine. A Scorpio Rising, they are extremely meticulous in the presentation of their craft. They are excited to provide an experience that facilitates freedom and personal expression on the dance floor.
Known by her Techno Teacher alias, Kels Davidson(@kelsdavidson) has been a great supporter of the dance scene in Detroit and is also an educator in city schools. In recent times, she has turned DJ due to her compulsion of sharing music and she has provided PITS with a mix that focuses on the power of the female voice through sporadic vocals and genres. She recently signed on to a residency with Sexual Tension at Temple Bar Detroit. Let this mix be a taste of what you might expect every third Saturday of the month.
Jorissen (@jorissendetroit)has a knack for finding the deep grooves that make your body want to move even into the wee hours of the morning. The mix he has provided for our seventh featured podcast certainly reinforces this with smooth selections of minimal tech and house. He has been keeping busy recently between playing with our previously featured group, House Coffee Detroit (@housecoffeedetroit), as well as a newer collaboration Lobos with Loren (@lorendetroit), Andrew Barren (@andrewbarrendetroit), and Mathias (@mathias-det).
A purveyor of all things strange, our featured artist certainly knows how to dig deep. A founding member of the local hooligan crew House Coffee Detroit (@hcdetroit), he has helped grow the project to be a solid group of DJs that share an affinity for plastic and host a super hangout at the famous Urban Bean downtown. Our featured mix this month is a special one for many reasons. It was recorded at the recent farewell party for Grenadier Club, our venue and home base for many of the after hours events we put on in Detroit.
PITS was born out of the opportunities granted to us through Grenadier, and the sister venue McCarthy's. The event @ Tangent Gallery, an offsite LEGAL venue, was subsequently shut down by DPD before any money could be raised for the already outstanding fines incurred by the amazing staff. John Joseph had a chance to get his tracks in first tho ;)
If you attended any of the shows at 3101 McDougall, please remember and continue to support your local music scene where you can! The changing face of the city will not wipe techno from its complexion no matter how some may try! The initial release on the PITS label will be released NEXT WEEK on all major streaming and distribution channels and we could not be more excited for the hard work of our community to come to fruition.

For the second installment of our PITSCAST series, Ill Fusion (@illfusiondet) aka David Kloosterman has provided us with a mix that reminisces on the corners of the Hart Plaza underground near closing time. Consistent in his ability to seamlessly mix a texture of whirling hats, acid synths, and droning bass, he has certainly provided as much here. Dubbed by "Birds Still Sing in Gotham" this mix is truly an homage to our dark city and the hope we have. Strap in, and forget your place in time & space.

Welcome to the first installment of our PITSCAST series.
Our first guest has performed at several of our events here in Detroit, and it is safe to say he will take us on a smooth ride to techno heaven. An Austrian born DJ, he has played in clubs throughout Europe and Southeast Asia and dipped deeply into dance culture globally. His sounds bring a feeling that is undeniably a unique interpretation of his place in time and space.
