In this podcast, Will had the pleasure of being able to talk to Barry, an individual who once utilised Jimmy’s services who now works for them. we feel it is necessary that to publicise and celebrate the work of organisations such as Jimmy’s and today provides the perfect opportunity to do just that.

.

Cambridge is a place of contrasts. For many it is a great place to live and work, offering significant opportunities. But with success come real issues of inequality and a chronic shortage of housing that people can afford. With high rents and house prices, and with around 1600 applicants on the council’s housing register, homelessness and rough sleeping are big issues for the City.

.

Inspired by the story of a rough sleeper called Jim Dilley, a small group of individuals where determined to establish a permanent night shelter in Cambridge. In 1995, this determination led to the formation of ‘Jimmy’s, a pioneering, community-focused organisation tackling homelessness and rough sleeping in Cambridge, valuing and respecting everyone.

.

Their goal continues to focus on ensuring that anyone in Cambridge who finds themselves homeless can move from the street and into a home and over the last 25 years, they have supported 6,000 people to do just that!
