We’ve split the episode into two parts. Part 1 today will cover challenges people with MS face, possible solutions, and more.
We’ll see you right back here next week with part 2. Thanks for listening!

In this episode Dr. Guild tells us about spotting injuries that seem fatalistic but really are not. They can be spotted months and even years or decades in advance by observing the way the person moves at a basic level.
He also calls on his expertise from when he used to be a certified strength and conditioning specialist before becoming a physical therapist to tell us about how we can improve the effectiveness of our workouts and avoid injuries simply by changing what we focus on during the exercise.

On this episode Jeffrey Guild sits down again with the 'Joint Whisperer' Peter Langlois and it's a fun episode. They pull back the curtains and talk about the behind-the-scenes part of Mobile Physical Therapy. This includes things like the importance of working with clients to create an individualized plan for them as opposed to a one-size-fits-all kind of approach which doesn't work nearly as well. It also includes how they think about pursuing outcomes for their clients, and building a timeline of sessions that best helps them achieve those outcomes.
A key insight on choosing outcomes to aim for is that it really depends on the priorities of the client. For example, they might physically be able to get back to walking around the block like they used to, but they also might not want to take the time away from the other parts of their lives that they enjoy like their families to do so. So it's about finding that balance between what CAN I get back to doing, but also what session-plan fits into my daily life in a way that works for me.
It's really great to shoot for the stars, but there's nothing wrong with staying here on Earth too, if that's what the client wants.
It was a very insightful conversation and we hope you enjoy it!

In today’s episode the team sits down in a roundtable and discusses the biggest takeaways from a multi-day virtual event at the Advanced Vestibular Conference, hosted by the team at The University of Pittsburgh. This is a course that happens only once every two years and provides the leading information for vestibular specialists and cutting edge information and research.
The event featured some of the leading minds in the world of vestibular rehabilitation, and so there was no shortage of excellent insights to talk about.
Some key points to listen out for in this episode are:
And again, of course, this is by no means a comprehensive account of all the information that was shared during the conference, this just scratched the surface. But without further ado, let’s get into the episode!

In today’s episode, you’ll hear a word which you might not know, but it’s incredibly important in dealing with any dizziness, balance, or falling problems. That word is 'proprioception'. Proprioception refers to our understanding of where different parts of our body are in space.
The key point to look out for is that proprioceptive problems go undiagnosed ALL THE TIME, and they cause balance problems.
Here in a moment, you’ll learn why that is, what you can do about it, and overall just everything you need to know about this incredibly important part of dealing with balance or falling problems that flies a little under the radar.

In today's episode, Dr. Guild and Anmar talk about strength training in a little more depth than last time. This involves topics like the different types of strength training, the different types of hypertrophy, is it better to use free weights or machines, are single-joint or multi-joint exercises better, delayed onset muscle-soreness, and so much more. They even debunk one of the most popular myths out there about strength training, and that's the myth that lifting light weights is beneficial.
This is the episode for you if you understand the benefits of strength training, but don't know how to get started correctly. Dr. Guild offers tremendous advice on that front based on very many years of experience helping all shapes, sizes, and builds of people do exactly that.

In this episode, our very own Diana Huynh joins us to discuss yoga and stretching as a solution to many of the problems and stresses we face in our everyday lives.
The key takeaway is that though improvements to mindfulness are often associated with yoga, that is just one of the many benefits. Yoga can also be used to decrease the risk of falling, improve posture and flexibility, and improve breathing.
Yoga, ultimately, is one of the best ways to reverse a lot of the damage we do to our physical and mental well-being throughout our day-to-day lives. If we're feeling stressed all the time, slouching when we sit at a table, and bending our necks to look at our phones, yoga is a fantastic way to help undo the negative effects of all of those things.

Today's healthcare system focuses on treating people like billable units for insurance purposes. We stand strongly against that at Optimove. In fact, the guiding philosophy in our practice is that we treat people as INDIVIDUAL PEOPLE!
Everybody's situation is a little bit different, so solving their problem effectively must begin with an individualized solution, not a 'one-size-fits-all' program.

Healthcare providers are being forced to turn into bureaucrats. The education is becoming less and less about healthcare, and more about documentation to get reimbursed by insurance.
Stepping outside of this traditional healthcare model is the only way that GOOD care can continue to be provided.

Healthcare used to be about people. Doctors spent as much time with their patients as they wanted. This isn't the case anymore.
Now that insurance companies are involved, the healthcare system is completely systematized. 'People' became 'billable units,' and the human aspect was lost.

Dizziness can be caused by a number of things. Someone who's feeling dizzy might have an issue with their balance (vestibular) system, the medication they're taking, high blood pressure, dehydration, etc.
Whatever the reason is, one thing is for sure: dizziness increases their risk of falling by A LOT. And falling and having to go to the hospital nowadays is very dangerous.
It's very important to find out what's causing the dizziness and prevent falls as early as possible.

To avoid problems with balance and falling, it’s important to act as early as possible.
There are so many reasons to put your recovery off for a while. It might not seem urgent enough to treat right away, or you might not know what the right things to do are.
I get it, but I can confidently say the WORST thing to do is NOTHING.
Acting early is the KEY to doing the things you want to be able to do again.
