Dom and Benj come together to discuss and respond to the Mark Driscoll fiasco from a few weeks ago. Mark was invited to a mens conference in which something happened that he marked as unbiblical. He was subsequently kicked off stage. What does Scripture have for the Church when it comes to calling others out? What of the context, if it is public? How do we determine if it is public? This and more is reviewed in the episode.

Scripture referred in this episode:

  • Matthew 7:15
  • Acts 20:28-30
  • Romans 16:17-19
  • 1 Timothy 5:19-20
  • 2 Timothy 1:15
  • 2 Timothy 4:9-10
  • 1 Timothy 1:19-20
  • 2 Timothy 2:17
  • 1 Corinthians 4:4-5
  • Ephesians 5:11

What do we do if we feel something needs called out? Ask yourself:

  • What degree of error is it?
  • Who is the audience? Is it large or small? Growing or shrinking? Easily influenced or discerning? Vulnerable or firm?
  • How often does it happen? One time thing or consistent over a period of time?
  • Does anyone truly go back and research what they are taught? Why do people take notes?
  • Is it a private or is it a public matter? What is the urgency? Where did the event in question take place?

Dom and Danielle welcome Mackenzie Morgan Holloway to the podcast!

Mackenzie Morgan made a simple post back in 2021 from her convictions concerning worship. Little did she know that the post would quickly go viral, receiving relatable welcome and some distain and disappointment. With those same convictions, Mackenzie now hosts her podcast, Godly Whistleblower with Mackenzie Morgan, to discuss worship matters. In this episode is a part of that discussion.

In this episode, Dom and Danielle explore Kenotic Christology/Theology.

The belief that Christ “emptied” himself of His divinity, superimposing his human nature, is argued in one aspect to be a true doctrine while on the other hand, the doctrine that Christ is 100% Divine and 100% human is challenged.

Although based on one word in Philippians 2:7 taken out of context from the whole pericope, Kenoticism has become prevalent in many churches in the west. In this conversation, Dom walks through Philippians 2:5-11 as a whole and explores other references of that one word taken far too literally. The conversation continues with how it is affecting biblical belief and what needs to be done.

Scripture Referenced:

  • Philippians 2:5-11
  • Romans 4:14
  • 1 Corinthians 1:17
  • 1 Corinthians 9:15
  • 2 Corinthians 9:3
  • Isaiah 53:12
  • Colossians 2:8-9

Disclaimer: In this episode we discuss some relational things in detail that parents may not want to have to explain the birds and the bees just yet.

Dom and Danielle welcome Belah Rose from Delight Your Marriage to talk about relationships.

Belah Rose is the author, speaker, and founder of the Delight Your Marriage organization, which runs Christ-centered training programs where decades-old stale marriages become playful, purposeful, and passionate again, even if only one spouse does the work.

She has led marriage conferences (live and online) and hosts the Delight Your Marriage podcast, which is one of the top 1% most popular podcasts in the world. We love to witness God transform marriages from broken to whole and thriving so His people can accomplish God's will better in the earth through loving each other His way.

After watching many, many reels, Dom and Rae offer critique and commentary on biblical truth, how videos capture, and the limitation of information in reels. These reels might hold a tiny morsel of truth, and typically a truth that overshadows and hides the damaging errors within. Dom explores those errors that should be avoided at all costs.

What exactly is “Christian Mysticism” and is it something that the believer can benefit from?

Marcia Montenegro joins the podcast again to review these questions and why the believer should be weary of Christian Mysticism. After reading Mansions of the Heart by R. Thomas Ashbrook and St. Teresa of Avila’s The Interior Castle and The Way of Perfection (The Introduction by Richard Rohr), there are many aspects that have been found to make Christian Mysticism a very dangerous counterfeit that the believer should not implement in their life. The Trio is back to breakdown and discuss an Instagram post that Raelynn stumbled upon concerning the Dead Sea Scrolls and the authenticity of the canon of Scripture.

The New Age continues to influence with "Social Media Theology" quips. How should Christians, respond to claims such as presented in this clip? Not everyone will have a solid understanding of the Dead Sea Scrolls, so how does a Christian respond?

Know Scripture, do research. As with anything, where are we getting our sources from?

Dom and Danielle are joined once again with Alycia Wood to discuss transgenderism. With the rapid uptick in popularity with transgenderism the Church is left with a lot of questions. Most Christians likely have a presuppositional belief concerning transgenderism but more likely do not have a solid apologetic concerning this hot (pressed) button topic. How, as Christians, do we approach transgenderism? That question, and more, are dialogued throughout this two part discussion.

Dom and Danielle are back after a long and much needed break. They open up with giving an update about what has been going on the past month and reasons why. They had also had a lot of conversations through this time, so to get some of these conversations out there, Random Topic Vol. 2.

The first random topic is on calling. How do we understand what calling is? What, then, does it mean?

The second random topic is on salvation, specifically on the concept of praying “the sinners prayer” and “once saved always saved.”

Dom and Danielle are back with a discussion on blessing. How do we understand blessing? What is a blessing? What are the biblical precepts concerning blessings? Is it more than just a free gift that is given that needs nothing offered in return? Are we blessed? Do we bless?

All this and more in this discussion on blessings.

Dom and Danielle are back to discuss Luke 1 and Zechariah’s silencing.

After the previous Sunday at church and two days later a podcast mentioning similar jokes referring to “She’s well along in years” in Luke 1, Dom wanted to explore the passage. In a literary critical approach, the text is approached with some historical background namely that the Lord had been silent for 400+ years. In comparison to Zechariah’s silencing, Dom brings into question if this is a literary tool that parallels to the “silence of the Lord” in between the Testaments. Was the Lord actually silent? Or was humanity turning deaf hearts to Him?

This week we have a very, very special guest on the pod, our good friend Alycia Wood to talk about deconstruction and a little bit about apologetics.

As a child growing up in the church, Alycia always had questions. She wanted to dig deeper into the Christian faith beyond the Sunday morning sermon. That fueled an independent search digging into the bigger questions of life. While studying for a degree in criminal justice and sociology at Robert Wesleyan College, Alycia discovered apologetics, and it changed the course of her life. Her quest for a deeper understanding of Christianity had a name.

She went on to get her master’s in social justice from Marygrove College to further her passion for serving those in need in the developing world. This led to various volunteering opportunities at orphanages, prisons, and shelters for the homeless in several countries including Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic.

Alycia was a substitute teacher and paraprofessional for multiple grade levels and spent eight years doing apologetics ministry at RZIM before joining Lighten. In her spare time, she is an avid sports fan, musician, and grower of all things edible in her garden.

In this episode, the Trio (Dom, Danielle, and Roz) dialogue through different times that they had come across or had experienced when a biblical preference was communicated or demanded as if it was a biblical command. With those stories in toe, Dom walks through what biblical triage is to help differentiate between what would be considered preferences that believers might have in comparison to what biblical commands actually are.

  3. “We are in a relationship with Christ so we need to learn him in order to do for him.”

  4. Titus 3:1-8

  5. “We can find fulfillment anywhere. Scripture must guide us through fulfillment, as well as passions and desires.”

  6. James 1:14-15

  7. Proverbs 10:24; 11:23; 19:2

Dom and Danielle are accompanied by their good friend, Rozlyn, to walk through an introduction to Song of Songs. Much of the Song has been avoided a most or at worst selective for various purposes. Most individuals have not even heard preached from the Song on a Sunday morning to a collective congregation, and few still have only been a part of a study of the book. In addition, most attest to an allegorical interpretation that is reflective and explanatory of the relationship between Christ and the Church for Christians just as between God and Israel for Jewish understanding. So why is that? Dom navigates through different reason for that along with challenging the allegorical interpretation. He poses thought into why Solomon is not the author, what Solomon’s involvement is in the Song, the influences on the Song from Egyptian love poetry, and how and why the Song is in our canon of Scripture. Thoughts and questions are welcomed on this episode of the Song, email us to continue the conversation!

The Trio had been talking about many different religions recently in studying a variety of spiritual abuse scenarios, specifically from differing religious belief systems and cults. One common factor that showed up in each thus far is that the (or an) “enemy” is viewed as any opposition that is contrary to the internal and core beliefs. So the question is was birthed, what does Christianity say is an enemy and what does Scripture teach us in comparison? That question is ventured in this episode.

Scripture referred to in this episode: Colossians 1:21-23 and Romans 5:6ff.

This week the Trio continues the conversations with why individuals do not choose to be or identify as a Christian. Some of the reason they discuss are:

  • Christianity goes against social norms
  • the Bible is outdated, fake, or mythological
  • Christians are judgmental or hypocritical
  • Hurt by the Church or religion
  • Already believe or follow something else, which might also include parts of Christianity
  • Being a good person is enough

The Trio are back with the first of two episodes to dialogue through why individuals choose to be - or perhaps identify as - a Christian. (The second will consist of why individuals are not Christians.)

They dialogue through different reasons they have encountered through conversation and study of why individuals are or identify as a Christian. Though it is not exhaustive, they discuss the following reasons:

  • So they don’t go to hell
  • They grew up in a Christian home
  • “Prosperity” thoughts or ideas
  • Humanitarian efforts
  • To be recognized as a “good person” …maybe
  • For grace and lovey-dovey aspects

Also in this episode, they walk through John 14 and Romans 1:18ff.

The Trio continues the series on Spiritual Abuse and Church Hurt. In this episode they venture into, but not limited to…

  • Gaslighting, defining and giving examples of it.
  • The Pulpit, where the “pulpit” came from and the reason for speaking the Word of God.
  • The Bully Pulpit, what it is and what it looks like, and some affects.

In conclusion, we need to ask one of the hardest questions, one in which takes bracing ourselves for a hurricane. We also have to be willing to answer it truthfully, and as difficult as it may be, with as much grace, hope, and love that we can muster. The toughest question ever needing asked: “How do you experience me?”

In this episode, the Trio return to the Upper Room for part 4 of the series on Spiritual Abuse and Church Hurt. They discuss in this episode:

  • How “unity” is used in spiritual abuse
  • What real “unity” is biblically
  • Profile of healing

Unity, unfortunately, can be used as a weapon or tool for spiritual abuse and church hurt. It is used, not for, but against others for many reasons. On the contrary, biblical unity is a mystery. Exploring Ephesians 2:11ff, we find that unity is reached in the faith and knowledge of the Son of God and become mature. Then, in healing, there is a passionate drive of anger that is easily understood concerning forgiveness and unity, and what moving on entails.

The Trio returns to present part 3 of the series on spiritual abuse and church hurt.

In this episode we learn that a church's character and function will reflect how it is lead, so therefore, abusive leading leads to abused outcomes. There are markers of an abusive culture, such as a dysfunctional family may operate. Those markers may include, but are not limited to:

  • No talking... Including asking the abused what happened.
  • Control and coercion, which is a violation of trust.
  • Dependency on leadership in which cannot be found elsewhere, especially since they have spiritual authority.
  • Dependency on leadership is necessary due to the leaders divine vision to lead.
  • The great assumption that leaders have the best interest for as many people as possible for the greater impact and for over the longest period of time.
  • Fears of consequences.
  • Segregating the so-called "troublemakers" from others.

To continue the discussion, Dominick gives a breakdown of Amos 7 and discusses the difference between the prophet Amos and the priest of Bethel, Amaziah. (Visit our Bible Studies on the book of Amos for more.)

Living in a culture of hurt - we all hurt, but how we are comforted and work through healing requires more vulnerability, which makes it harder than ever thought to be. Part of spiritual abuse includes a type of safeguard (ie. no talking). Tear those safeguards down and establish the correct ones (ie. knowledge and awareness of abuse).

The Trio is back with Part 2 of the series on Spiritual Abuse and Church Hurt. In this episode the abuser and victim are identified:

  1. Abuse may not be a thought at all: For various reasons, the crew discuss why the abuser and victim may not even know that spiritual abuse is happening.
  2. Common sayings and phrases of abuser and victim: Here, the crew processes more in depth the definition of spiritual abuse and common behaviors and phrases that are often said in light of not knowing that the abuse is happening.
  3. Scripture as weapon and avoidance of Scripture: There is a place in which Scripture plays a part in abuse. The crew discusses how it is used as a weapon and why the victim tends to avoid Scripture thereafter.
  4. Remedy is not what it seems: For prevention and forgiveness, measures need to be taken. Patterns need broken. Equipping needs done. There is no over night solution to spiritual abuse, but it begins with listening.

Whatever the redaction might have been, the Trio returns to the Upper Room for a little fun. Yes. You read it right. "Vladintine's Day." And the redaction is for whoever would like to add their thoughts on the holiday.

The first half, Raelynn becomes a game show host for the contestants Dom and Danielle who are playing... well, they're not sure what it's called. The Couple's Game? The Hot Seat? ...Whatever it is, they know the rules of the game and Dom still gets it wrong. Not to mention that he has forgotten how to talk at times and also becomes holiday confused. At some point, the game show host starts making up questions in which may or may not be benign.

The second part, the Trio walk through Philippians 2:1ff to make clear that relational intelligence is needed for all. And not just on Vladintine's Day.

After a month break, the crew is back in the Upper Room!

Dom, Danielle, and Raelynn venture into a conversation on Christians among a world where there is more opposition to Christian living than not. "Live such good lives..." (1 Peter 2:11-12) has been #OneFear's theme and driving force in glorifying Christ in all circumstances. The crew talk in depth on what it means and what it entails to live such good lives.

Look to the podcast in February for the series Spiritual Abuse & Church Hurt that #OneFear has been working on.

Sarah E. P. T. is BACK in the Upper Room with Dom and Danielle! Long overdue! Just like this conversation on the Holy Spirit.

Dom, Danielle, and Sarah give a summarized summary of a summary on the Holy Spirit. There is so much to God and it is so very difficult to give a short explanation on any aspect of the Lord without deviating from the Truth. Avoiding a watered down version of God from over-simplifications is always best and discussing the Holy Spirit is no exception. Therefore, this is only a conversation starter that the crew hopes to become an ice breaker to the ever-ongoing conversation concerning the Holy Spirit and solely, the Lord.

Dom, Danielle and Raelynn tackle a “passionate” topic that in many ways can be taken as hateful, thoughtless, and/or bias, and is even targeted as heretical.

If one misinterprets Scripture they will misrepresent the true Jesus of Scripture. Not just any Jesus is the real Jesus. For those who claim to be Christian, some of which are even prominent leaders in the faith, who are corrected in this error with great love will instantly cry foul with retorts such as to do so is a non-christian and unloving thing to do.

The #OneFear crew take on these misinterpretations and explore a specific platitude that has grown in popularity. They also explain how the TPT is currently influencing the Church in unfortunate ways.

Adam and Eve and the origin story has gone through a lot of analyzation and debate throughout history. So we just had to do a “Your Childhood Bible Stories Ruined” edition on Genesis chapter 2 and 3. Dom asks his oldest kids Sophia and Judah to recall what they have learned and what they have gleaned from the passage. From there, Dom and Danielle discuss a little bit of history of interpretation and how some lenses have caused misunderstanding of the origin story and what it entails for the believer’s conduct.

The book mentioned in the episode is “The Lost World of Adam and Eve” by John H. Walton.

Dom, Danielle, and Raelynn are in the Upper Room chewing on the topic of the overload of information.

There is a lot of information to be had. While so much information is pivotal for the Christian conduct (not to mention survival), there is also a lot of information that is just too much. The TMI’s and unwanted, unnecessary comments, mistaken opinion as fact information, or overwhelming, hurtful information can take a toll on our minds and walk with Christ.

Dominick and Danielle are with Raelynn again to dialogue through the stuff that might be thought to need no discussion: When things go right. There is so much focus on how to handle and respond to the stuff that goes wrong in life, but what about the things that are good? When things go right, a gut response is to either brag or not say anything. Is there a legitimate, Scriptural way to how we should respond to the things that go right? How should we respond when things go right in others' lives? And do we even recognize when things go right? Are we too aware of all the wrong and tough things of life that we miss the good? All these and more are discussed throughout the episode. For questions, comments, (concerns), email us at contact@onefear.net Visit our website, onefear.net for more information about #OneFear.
