In this week's podcast episode we with talk with Fiona Rogerson, Trauma & Perinatal Counsellor who supports her clients through trauma and PTSD recovery, birth trauma and perinatal difficulties.

During the podcast episode we taked about the top 4 tips for maintaining your mental health in small business ownership, being:

Work-life balance – creating boundaries around your work. Saying no to work/clients that don’t align with your message. Boundaries around work hours (instead of constantly checking emails and socials). Develop interests outside of work – even if work is your passion. Plan your day before it starts so that work doesn’t spill into home life.

Maintain a healthy lifestyle - Regular physical activities, maintaining well balanced diet, monitor sleeping habits (not staying up at night to work), planned breaks in your work day. Building those internal boundaries.

Delegate and outsource - Hire help if you can, trust those that are experts in their fields (book keepers, Vas)

Support – small business is isolating. Networking events, maintaining existing relationships (not withdrawing from friends or family due to time constraints or having less in common). Connect with a small group of like-minded professionals. Find a small business mentor to support you through big decisions. Personal professional support if needed.

Signs – tired and fatigued, more emotional – angry, frustrated or irritable, harder to make decisions, withdrawing into your work, difficulties concentrating.

A little bit more about our guest Demelza, in her own words:

Hi, I'm Demelza! I am the director of DL Social, a Perth-based marketing & social media consultancy established in 2015, that works with small to large businesses and organisations across the country. However, that's not all I do.

I love all things music & pop culture (I'm banned from any pop quiz by my family) and this passion has given me a wealth of experience from being the Dance Music Editor of a well known Perth street-press X-Press Magazine, to interviewing internationally renowned music acts, working backstage at some of the biggest music festivals and even hosting a few radio shows in between. Currently, you can find me as the Music Presenter on The Couch TV show, which airs weekly on Foxtel.

I love to help business owners understand how to market their business and use the ever-changing digital world to their advantage. Using my knowledge and skills in both marketing and pop culture together has allowed me to teach clients with easy to relate lessons and presentations.

And I'd love to help you next.

In this week's podcast episode with talk with Lindsay Bodhi a Confidence & Business Coach about all things confidence and mindset in small business.

During the podcast we talked about the following topics:

➡️ How mindset applies to strategy in business. Including client attraction & sales;

➡️ Where confidence fits in and hot it is different to mindset;

➡️ The idea of 'Just Do the Damn Thing' and the power of getting started!

_________________________

A little intro from our podcast guest Lindsay Bodhi:

"This is not my first rodeo...

After 10+ years working in sales, I'd left to dive into the entrepreneur world, running my own freelance makeup artistry biz.

Until about 5 years ago when I decided that coaching was my jam and dove head first into learning everything

I needed to know to launch my coaching biz.

I took all the courses, watched dozens of webinars, downloaded a million freebies.

Got certified as a life coach and a women's sex/relationship coach.

I launched my social media accounts and posted my little heart out. Only to hear crickets in return.

Never to be deterred (because I'm stubborn AF) I continued on that way for another couple of years.

Slowly sinking into truckloads of confusion, frustration and shame around money, wtf I was doing so wrong and why I couldn't make it work.

And trust me when I say I was DOING all the things.

Staying up til midnight building a website.

Listening to every damn "expert" on the internet, copying their formula - as directed.

Copy courses, social media courses, FB ads training, sales programs.

I did it all.

BUT I WAS MISSING AN ESSENTIAL INGREDIENT

Confidence.

The whole time I was second guessing myself, watering down my copy, re-writing my offers

and basically hiding from any REAL visibility.

I was terrified to actually sell anything and spent way too much time doing ANYTHING other that show up fully.

Until the penny dropped... well ALL the pennies actually and finally my biz was working!!"

In this week's podcast episode we talk with Riki Deale, Parenting Coach and Founder/CEO of Tame Your Zoo, who is passionate about helping families to communicate more effectively and understand each other better.

We dived deep into how the various temperaments transend so well into small business life and how you can identify the traits of each and the best ways to communicate within a business setting. This can be with our own staff, working with family members in business or any of your customers.

Topics we discused during our chat:

➡️ What is a temperament (and background of where it comes from if you want)?

➡️ What are the 4 temperaments in a nutshell?

➡️ How does that impact families and parenting?

➡️ How does this impact you as you start or run a small business

Find out more about Tame Your Zoo here:
https://tameyourzoo.com.au/

_____________________

A little bit about Riki:

As you know, I’m a ‘parenting coach’, but my approach is to help people understand the different temperaments in their families. When people know and understand this, their can be more compassion and understanding, which then leads to better communication in families. And then ultimately, kids feel safe, loved, respected and heard, making them thrive and grow up to become confident adults.

I changed the original Greek names for the different temperaments (Hippocrates penned this down first in around 400 B.C) to animal names. This is easier to remember, but also brings in an element of fun, as I want parents to enjoy their children and their parenting journey.

My favourite quote is ‘ It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken adults’ by Frederick Douglas (American social reformer and slave abolitionist in the 1800s)

In this week's podcast episode we talk with Laura Vucic, the go-to online systems expert helping female biz owners set up, organise and automate their business backends, so they can scale.

We dived deep into all things systems and automations for your small business.

During the podcast we discussed:
1. The systems every small business owner should have set up;
2. Where people go wrong with implementing online platforms into their business;
3. Where you get started with automations.

___________________________

A little bit more about Laura:

I never thought I wanted children until I met my husband. He is one of 10...yep you read that right and no they aren’t super religious and yes they did have a TV 😂 and on our first date I asked what most people wouldn’t and asked him how many kids he wanted...if he has of said 10 I think that would have been our last date! Luckily we agreed on two!

👉 I never wanted to be an Executive/Virtual Assistant. After being made redundant in my previous career working in Commercial Property Management I was offered a maternity leave contract to cover an Executive Assistant role. I spent the first 4 months telling my two female bosses that they absolutely did not need assistants and it was such a waste of money! I know truly know and believe that administration is so vastly undervalued by so many people...yet it is the core to all businesses

👉 I always knew I would probably be an entrepreneur after opening a dance school when I was 18. I ended up being offered a job in Melbourne and back then the shiny lights of having someone else pay me saw me closing the dance school down and relocating.

A little bit from Sukhy:

As a business coach my mission is to change the way women feel about finances and growing a business.  After 15 years as a chartered accountant in various leadership roles I decided to bring my corporate experience to small business.

In my coaching programs I use my signature framework FLOW to help clients set up your their business for long term and sustainable growth.  It has also been a way to blend the finance & strategy experience I have with the mindset/spiritual side of business, which goes hand in hand.

In this week's podcast episode we talk with Taryn Watson from FitRight about running a small business (in the health/fitness relam) during a pandemic, whilst trying to manage a a young family.

Taryn owns FitRight, which holds small group physio-led exercise classes all over Perth. She trains other physios to run these pelvic floor friendly classes and then provides all of the administrative back end services for them.

She recently launched a FitRight HQ Applecross Women’s Health & Exercise clinic in the Applecross Village. Three physios and a lactation consultant and they specialise in pelvic floor physiotherapy, musculoskeletal physiotherapy for women, clinical pilates and breastfeeding services 💜

Let's hear a little more from Taryn:

  • I’m a physiotherapist with a Masters degree in Womens Health & Continence Physio and I’ve worked in this area for nearly 14 years, in private practices and maternity wards both here and in London

  • I have two little kids - Benji age 4 and Ruby age 1

  • I started FitRight in 2014 with a Pregnancy Exercise DVD, which then expanded to pre and postnatal exercise classes. Quite quickly that expanded to training other physios to run the same classes in a wide range of geographical locations around Perth and Mandurah, and then it grew to incorporate classes for women beyond the childbearing years too, including Aqua and Online branches as well as the original Studio classes. We currently run nearly 25 different classes each week in approximately 10 different locations, and the training courses now attract physios and fitness professionals from all over Australia.

  • I recently teamed up with another FitRight Physio to open our first Centre for Womens Health & Exercise - it’s called FitRight HQ Applecross. We launched two weeks ago with services for Womens Health Physiotherapy, Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Clinical Exercise and Lactation Consulting.

In this week's podcast episode, we talk all things touch and the benefits it can bring to those of us caught up in the constant hustle of being a small business owner.

Here is a little intro from Michelle herself:

"I came up with the idea of starting my own massage business after I was fired (no kidding) - first time ever and I was devastated. Yes, I was working as a massage therapist, and this is not invented as an interesting lead to a blog. I was fired.

My clients are probably reading this and thinking, surely not? But it is the truth. Turns out the owner of the massage business was a little concerned with my performance, you see, everyone one was asking for me, I’ll let you put two and two together ;)

I found massage in my mid-thirties, or rather it found me. I was living in England with a young family and working as an editor, when the opportunity arose to do a paid course of my choice. So my first foray into massage came about as a hobby. I trained for 12 months and started massaging friends.

We relocated to Perth after a family member’s health scare, with our now almost four year old daughter with the ‘plum in her mouth’ English accent. So after a turbulent start with the aforementioned firing, Hills Massage came into fruition in October 2003. I had big plans you see, so I registered the Business Name, Hills Massage. I started mobile, slogging my table around, night after night. Did some senior massage at The Jack Healey Centre, and finally convinced my hubby to convert our front room into a clinic.

In the meantime, I continued my studies to acquire my Remedial Massage Diploma (coming second in the ‘Achievements in Theory’). Probably also a good point to let you know here, that I was a qualified Registered Nurse, but typically injured my back in a lifting accident and had my lower spine fused. Yes, I was admonished by my mother, who thought massage was not really a sensible idea for an ex-nurse with a dicky back.

After five years of working from home, my reputation was growing and I was invited to move into one of the physiotherapist’s rooms at Mead St. This is where the business blossomed. I now had a central location and access to an electric table, WooHoo! (you have no idea how much better it makes life for the therapist, not to mention the client).

The business thrived and I took on my first therapist, that dream of opening my own clinic was getting closer.

Finally in October of 2014, my dream came into fruition; I leased a small space on Haynes St (our current clinic). We worked hard to fit it out.

I then I lay awake at night thinking, “Is this the right thing to do? Can I sustain a business on my own?” The clinic looked great, two individually temperature controlled rooms, electric tables, and a swish reception area/waiting room (Well I think its swish).

So that brings us up to now, nearly three years after opening the clinic, we are happily thriving. All I can say is dreams do come true if you really believe. Our team is made up of my hubby and I and Eilish, Jackie, Sona and Nikki and we have created Yomassage as our side hustle."

Michelle xx

In this week's podcast episode we talk with Amanda Joseph from @the_soulful_vagabond about all things masculine and feminine energy.

Amanda was a corporate lawyer by the time she was 23, owned her own home by the time she hit 24 and had a major burn out by the time 28 rolled around. After being knocked up-side the head by the Universe (after ignoring the soft calls for a very long time) Amanda embraced her spiritual gifts and turned her past traumas into her mission and purpose.

Key sections we explore in the podcast:
✅ What the sacred masculine and sacred feminine energies actually are;
✅ How you know whether your core energy is masculine or feminine;
✅ How the sacred feminine archetypes can be used to embody the sacred feminine.

Amanda is a self-confessed recovering control-addict, ex-lawyer and once-upon-a-time corporate climber. For many years she was always striving for something more.

As a feminine embodiment guide and mentor, Amanda works with women who are feeling burnt-out in the face of being forced to exist in a patriarchal world created by the patriarchy, for the patriarchy.

Along with her Law degree and Master of Science, she's also a certified meditation and mindfulness teacher, crystal healer and Reiki II practitioner. She's completed Diplomas through the Centre of Excellence in Divine Feminine and Divine Masculine energies, Ancestral Healing and Spiritual Life Coaching. She's also taken courses with NICABM on trauma and trauma healing as part of her own journey with c-PTSD which she bring into her teachings.

Amanda is an intuitive and channel who practices and teaches sacred feminine embodiment and trauma healing through mentorship programs and workshops.

In this week's podcast episode we talk with the lovely Megan MacNeill (Director of Personal Branding), Founder & CEO of Relevant.

We discuss 3 main questions:
1. What is personal branding?
2. Should your offline and online branding be different or the same?
3. What are a few quick wins people can have when putting their personal branding online?

Here is an intro from Megan herself:

Hi, I'm Megan!

I am all of the following (in no particular order)…
👑 A Personal Branding Strategist.
🔵 A Scottish lass living the dream in Oz 🟡
🐶 A dog lover but somehow a slave to a cat 🐱
💡 Overly excitable and love coming up with new ideas‼
📖 Part of a book club, where we actually read the books (and drink wine) 🍷
🙋‍♀️ A tall girl in a short girls body
🍸 A gin snob
💦 I love to be by the water
📣 Will talk to a brick wall if I think it's listening….

And why does any of that matter? Simple - because whether I like it or not they are all part of my personal brand and let you make a decision about me.

We have no control over what feelings our personal brand has on individuals personally but we do have control over what information we put out and how we distribute it. So perhaps next time I'll leave out the gin-loving part.

You are not generic so why should your online presence be?

I work with you to realise the power of your very own personal brand and support you to build and maintain it to reach your goals and aspirations.

I also do LinkedIn training with executives and their teams as well as 1-1. Linkedin is the perfect place to position yourself as an expert in your industry, sector, niche (whatever you are chasing).

We live in a world where information is at our finger tips 24/7. We don't trust what we can't see and what isn't authentic (sorry, overused but so very relevant). I work to make sure my clients tick all the boxes to win more clients of their own.

Drop me a message - as I said before, I love to chat!

Armed with the ability to see the bigger picture, guide clients through my step-by-step blueprint to success and a goal of bringing cost effective tried and tested marketing strategies to small businesses and solopreneurs, NW Marketing was born.

My guilty pleasure? well, apart from sticky date pudding, it’s watching lives and businesses be absolutely transformed into people helping, solution providing, money making machines! from the sidelines of course – they don’t call me the Small Business Cheerleader for nothing Keen to know more?

well… I’m a pawrent to Dash the Whippet (aka NW Marketing’s barketing manager), I’m a sucker for trashy reality TV (Teen Mum and 90 Day Fiancé are my go-tos), I’m allergic to exercise (Bootcamp’s excepted) and I was named “little, but loud” at my year 7 graduation (guess what?... nothing’s changed!)

Nothing makes me prouder than digging through the marketing trenches with you, making you feel comfortable on your journey and watching you get the results you’ve always desired.

Lesa Blackham is a Life Balance Coach specialising in helping overwhelmed career mums, who are sick of being taken for granted by their partner, kids, and workmates, to re-build powerful relationships at home, at work … and with themselves.

I'll let Lesa introduce herself further:

I’m Lesa Blackham, owner & founder of Lesa Blackham coaching and I live in Esperance, a stunning rural seaside oasis in southeast WA.

I moved to Esperance 27 years ago as a high school teacher and met my hubby and we’ve been married for nearly 24 years. I am mum to 2 incredible young adult humans who are now paving their own way in the world & making their dad & me so proud.

I love celebrating and empowering other women to rise and shine and be their most awesome selves and I love nothing more than helping them to avoid burnout by shining a light on all the ways that they already know to overcome the stress, overwhelm, and anxiety that are relentless in their busy lives.

I recently started my own Mindset coaching business as a result of my own journey through anxiety. As an overachieving working mum I was constantly experiencing the burnout cycle and desperately wanted to find ways to have a better healthier work/life balance. For the past 3 & a half years, I’ve been coaching women 1:1 and in small in-person and online groups.

In this week's podcast episode, we talk with Gilly Corker - known as the 'Tech Coach For Non-Techie Small Business Owners', about all things websites & more importantly nailing your SEO.

Gilly is a website and SEO coach who has been helping small business owners learn how to do all the technical things they never thought they’d be able to master.

With over 20 years in sales and marketing, Gilly actually started off as a music journalist (true story, Angry Anderson once asked her out for a drink and she very politely declined). She now feels like she’s come full-circle as she uses a lot of her journalism background to help small business owners communicate their value to their audience in a way that helps them get found on Google and convert browsers into buyers.

Gilly refuses to believe tech is ‘for the boys’ and believes more women are needed in the tech space to ensure our voices are heard.
