Pod Caste is dedicated to the study, expansion and understanding of Tau lore, a faction and race in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. We are also a tabletop miniature and gaming community that likes to explore all aspects hobbying.
Some episodes are conversation based between members of a Discord group called Tau 40.000 while others will be lecture based. There are interviews with artists, enthusiasts and anyone that would like to have a chance to nerd out about one topic or another.

An episode hypothesizing taking a look at the SCP universe and how it could be applied to the Tau.
One way or another you eventually have to acknowledge the mecha element that the Tau have been leaning toward since their beginning. We cover the three storey tall, first big mecha for the Tau, the Riptide along with its two variants and Calmsword's own assertion that the Riptide's most powerful weapon might actually be one that you don't immediatly see on the unit.

Always a complicated subject but let's begin to tackle how the Kelly and the rest of the Tau lore don't really work. We also look at the past and the confusing nature of how Kelly goes back and forth between concepts like Vash'ya or how everyone is named Kais. This is not a bash, it is trying to understand how we, as a community, can introduce all the lore to newcomers and explain how you have to work a little harder because it's not a single straight line but two parallel ones.

Genestealers are hyper predators in the universe of Warhammer 40,000 but they have trouble infiltrating Tau communities. We go over Genestealers (with a newbie mistake on my part- I confused the generations of infected- my bad!) and their infection cycle as well as how the Tau have successfully countered it while hypothesizing how they might actually be completely out of their league as the Tyranids adapt.

In this mini-episode, Kain our host, discusses the tricky problem with Tau faster then light travel. With an empire in a stellar cloud about 300 lights years in diameter and the vastness of the Damocles Gulf to the corward side of their Commonwealth, they need faster then light travel to have a realistic chance of existing in 40k.
In the beginning there was the Gravitic "Ether" Drive in which the Tau would 'skip' across the warp. This allowed them a 1/3 speed of an optimal operating Imperial drive (without the perils of the warp aspect and entirely reliable, unlike human's own warp engine).
Then there was a retcon where they were given close-to-lightspeed capabilities.
Finally, they're opening wormholes to new parts of the Galaxy.

The Imperial Crusade pulls back from Dal'yth, forced into a rare ceasefire with an alien race. Farsight rises to prominence, leading the largest reclamation force the Empire has ever mustered while Gue'vesa flood into the Septs.
It's a great episode to start warming up to more 'modern' Tau.

This is a longer one so, perfect for getting some painting done.
This week we get start getting into more detailed historical events for the Tau. From the chaotic and volatile age of war known as the Mont'au and those early formative years where the Tau coalesced into a vibrant nation state that took to the stars, to those first wars against the Orks and the Nicassar. The Tau, with the guidance of the Ethereals, realize their place in the universe; as unifiers. Perhaps this is hubris, or the audacity of hope, or the natural psychological conclusion for a race that seems to have begun their evolution as ungulate plains dwellers, either way, these are the golden years for the Tau.
