Two life coaches share and discuss ways that we’ve found self-love, joy, meaning, and purpose on our own life journeys. We believe that no matter what life hands us, one truth remains constant: change is an inside job. Our wish is to share at least one spark that lights your inner flame, guiding you to find your next right steps.
Welcome to episode 131 of Inside Job with Vee and Pam! It's been a while since we've delivered a fresh episode, and we thank you for your patience. Moving forward, we'll be offering you 1-2 episodes a month and we hope you'll join us!
This week, Pam and Vee are talking about navigating the upheaval of change and the feeling of, "I'm here and I want to be there." We discuss the desire to leapfrog the present, especially when we're experiencing uncomfortable emotions. We agree that expectations are a path to disappointment and share some ways that we can drop those expectations and instead create space for ourselves to feel what we feel: gratitude, support, and self love are at the top of the list. What practices do you turn to that help you stay grounded and present?

Permission to fail doesn't mean we're going to fail - it means we are moving forward without the pressure of meeting anyone else's expectations, or even sometimes our own expectations. This week Pam and Vee are talking about self compassion, giving ourselves the kindness and grace that we so readily offer to others. If this feels like a gift you need to give yourself, you can start by visiting selfcompassion.org, the website of Dr. Kristen Neff. We highly recommend exploring all the resources she offers. And our question of the week is this: what is one simple thing you can do to be kinder to yourself this week?

This week we're asking, "what's stopping me?" Our brains are very good at creating obstacles that seem insurmountable and as Pam says, "the chatter seems very real at the time." We share some of our own self-limiting stories and reflect on the benefit of asking another question, "what is most important to me about this?"
We mention Christina Rasmussen's idea of "the Waiting Room," and you can read more about that concept here.

This week, Vee and Pam share our thoughts on hope in times of difficulty. When life feels dark and uncertain, it's easy to lose sight of hope. Yet it's always available to us, like the sun behind the clouds. We talk about the fact that life is not always great or even okay - challenges and struggle come to each of us. The point is not to avoid these dips in the path, but rather to decide how we want to show up when they occur.
This week's big question is: what does hope feel like for you and how does it call you to action? We hope you enjoy this week's conversation!

Vee shares a recent experience that triggered her inner critic and we discuss the ideaof taking action vs the reality of taking action. Pam talks about the inner critic's job and asks, what makes being seen so difficult? This week's big question is: when your inner critic shows up, how do you recognize it and what do you do next? We talk about "should" - the real S word - along with resistance, discernment, self leadership, and living wholly by being on our own side. This week, we're continuing to dig into Brene Brown's concept of Living BIG - with boundaries, integrity, and generosity. Pam and Vee ask the question: is everyone doing their best? We share our own past experiences with judgment of others, which (surprise!) has really been about judging ourselves. We talk about giving our best when we're not at our best. Here's the thing: recognizing and accepting our own capacity, with honesty and grace, can be the turning point that allows us to see ourselves, and everyone, more clearly and compassionately.

This week, we're talking about living BIG, an acronym borrowed from Brene Brown's work and her book, "Rising Strong." Vee and Pam talk about what it really takes to create change in our lives, and relate the BIG acronym - boundaries, integrity, generosity - to our discussion last week about Pam's experiences in the month of January. The bottom line: doing this work is WORK, and when we can give ourselves generosity, it impacts us and those around us. We hope you enjoy this week's conversation!

Especially when we feel good, it's easy to fall into old patterns - but at what cost? Expectations, emotions, actions and interactions can all pull at our energy until before we know it, we're drained. Then we're less than our best, and we snap or crack or withdraw. How can we stop this cycle? By boosting our capacity through self care and awareness, lowering expectations to realistic levels, and staying tuned in to how we're caring for ourselves. As we step closer to the end of December, we're talking about what happens after the hoopla around December 25th. Our focus this week is on a practice we both enjoy: discovering our Word of the Year. This can be done at any time - it's not just for December/January - and as we wrap up the calendar year it feels especially exciting, you could say a last gift of the season. Pam and Vee share some of our past experiences with this practice and someof the ways that it differs from other markers like resolutions or year-long intentions. This week we're wrapping up our series on joy. Vee and Pam talk about simple pleasures and cultivating joy by consciously choosing more of what makes us feel, well, joyful. Ultimately, we talk about trusting ourselves enough to take the risk of joy. We hope you enjoy this week's conversation!

This week we begin by sharing moments of joy from the past week! Then Vee and Pam talk about our experiences with toxic positivity, not from others but from within ourselves. We share the phrases we used that had good intentions and still were insensitive and misleading. Constant forced positivity can be a bypass to addressing our own growth. And pretending that joy is all there is can lead us to believe we're broken if we can't attain or sustain that level of happiness. So what's the difference between positivity and joy? Positivity is a tool that helps us cultivate joy within ourselves, and when used in moderation it can guide us to a life more fully and joyfully lived.

This week Pam and Vee are continuing the conversation about joy. Vee shares some of her first experiences in understanding that it's possible to reclaim our joy, and that it's a conscious decision to do so. She talks about some of the ways that she began to offer this work to help women start to unravel the stories they were carrying. These shifts have led women to reclaim their joy and, ultimately, their power. And Vee and Pam share thoughts about the question: who would you be without your story?

This week, Vee and Pam start an ongoing conversation about cultivating joy. Vee talks about her exploration of reclaiming joy and how it relates to our power of choice. She shares experiences with grief and anger that let to learning how to forgive. She offers the idea that we can make room for joy by allowing ourselves to feel the full spectrum of emotions. Ultimately, joy is never lost to us - it can get buried by life, and by seeking it out we can choose to reclaim our joy.

When you hear the phrase, "skating by," what do you picture? Olympic level ice dancing? Sidewalk skateboarding? Rollerblading on the boulevard? Okay - but what if we're talking about you, or about me, and we don't know how to skate? Sometimes, "skating by" means barely making it, holding on tight and hoping for the best. This week, Pam and Vee talk about what it feels like to do what we need, even what it's not what we want. We share some of our own experiences and a few new viewpoints.

We're wrapping up our series on practical self love. If you haven't heard our earlier conversations on this, please go back to episode 81 from October 14th and start there. When does 2+2=0? When we believe our goal is endless perfection. The relentless pressure of perfectionism leaves very little room for joy and instead creates a breeding ground for self judgment and sadness. This week Pam and Vee talk about our struggles with perfectionism and the ways we've learned the art of nuance. Pam shares the third tool that helped her on her own journey of self love. If you take away one piece from this conversation, please take this: practicing our own self love leads to more active participation in life, and even better, it leads to our own freedom.

This week we're continuing our conversation about practical self love with Pam Davis. We started this back in episode 81, so be sure you go back and listen to catch all the goodness! Pam and Vee talk about ways that we set ourselves up for disappointment with heavy self judgment and unrealistic expectations. Pam shares more of her quest for self love and offers another of her "road buddy" tools that helped her create real and lasting shifts, as well as more about what she learned along the way.

Welcome back! We're continuing the conversation with Pam Davis, hope warrior, and she's got more wisdom to share. This week we're talking about how Pam's self love journey unfolded in the beginning. We reflect on shame and the inner critic, and how we cover these up and put a good face on our struggles. One thing to remember: others can offer us support and guidance along the way, and this is ultimately a highly personalized journey for each of us. Pam shares what it took for her to even start to make a change in how she viewed herself, and a tool she used that made a big difference.

This week we're starting an ongoing discussion about practical self love. It's a topic a lot of people talk about, in an abstract way, but how do we do it?? Pam Davis, our resident hope warrior, shares the beginning of her own self love journey. We talk about how she got from an intangible idea to practical actions. Pam shares the limiting beliefs that had stifled her for decades when she started this quest, and the small changes she dared to make that helped her begin to shift her patterns and change her life.

This week we’re talking about embracing an enormous change that we’ve all experienced in the past few years. The pandemic has changed all of our lives in ways we haven’t fully grasped yet. When will we get “back to normal”..? We won’t. We have all been changed by this, even if our subconscious hasn’t yet caught up to this fact. Pam and Vee reflect on how people have adapted and how old patterns still pop up in times of fear and uncertainty. We share some of the ways we’ve taken careful steps forward, with patience and grace.
We're continuing the conversation this week about the costs of change. When we believe that change creates loss, we project our past experiences onto the present and feed into the fear of loss. What if, instead, we could see benefits of change? What if change brings us gifts and opportunities? Pam and Vee share some of their own experiences and perspectives around this fundamental shift in mindset that is, as we say, simple and not easy.
How does our own change impact those around us? and how, in turn, does that influence us? This week we're talking about the unknown costs of change. We share our perceived responsibilities to others during a change in our own lives. How can we ease the transition for them, and is it even ours to manage? Sometimes it's a way for us to feel safe. How does other people's discomfort impact you in times of change?
How do we move from dreading or tolerating change, to looking forward to it or even embracing it? In this week’s conversation we ask: rather than taking the giant leap from hating change to loving it, how would it feel to shift into neutral? When we can change our outlook from resistance to curiosity, the question changes from, “how do I keep this the same?” to, “what are my options here?” It’s also helpful to remember that even a small, one-inch change is still change. And it can start simply by daring to want one thing to be different. What’s one small thing that makes you wonder, “what if…?”

This week we're talking about transitions and changes. Whether you're navigating a change in seasons or in any aspect of your internal or external environment, here's the thing: you can resist or you can ride the wave. The truth is that change is always happening, and that it's all temporary. What would shift for you if you could give yourself grace and embrace change?

CW: this episode contains brief mentions of addiction and attempted suicide. While not graphic, we understand that these can be upsetting to some people. If this is you, please listen with care and when you feel ready.
This week we’re excited to introduce Jim Graziano! Jim is a fellow Lumia coach and a firm believer that each of us is the owner of where we want to go in life, as well as that connection brings deep empowerment. Today he shares some of his origin story, including his loss of hope and attempted suicide, which led to his rebirth and awakening.
Jim is also having a series of discussions with Denisey Evans, the host of Instagram’s Rainbow Roundtable Talk, in which they’re digging deeper into “The Four Agreements,” by Don Miguel Ruiz. Tune in here to listen, and follow the account to hear more!

Resistance can feel like a safety mechanism, yet it also blocks us from wonder, beauty, and joy. When we take on the identity of resistance it can become "A Thing" over time - the word "no" becomes a default and an all too predictable reaction.
What happens when resistance finally crumbles or when we choose to put it down?
(There's some background noise in this episode, and we hope it's not too distracting.)
This week we continue our conversation around resistance, control, and surrender. We share our ideas around a concept called "the waiting room." (Vee references a book, "Second Firsts," which is written by Christina Rasmussen.) Our own inner waiting rooms can be a place of refuge and also a trap of avoidance.
What's one small (or not so small) thing you're avoiding? What would change for you if you could loosen the grip of resistance and begin to welcome the relief of surrender?

This week, Vee shares a recent insight that reflects a statement we touched on last week: no matter how much we like to think our insights are about others, ultimately every insight is about ourselves. It’s an opportunity to hold up the mirror so we can more clearly see our own egos and our real work and responsibilities.

What story have you held on to because you need it to be true? How hard are you willing to fight in order to keep this story alive? How long will you fool yourself into believing it? This is what we're unpacking this week, because this is one way that we resist insight and stunt our own growth. Pam and Vee talk about what happens when our old beliefs collide with new understanding.

This week we continue talking about insights. Insight is not always a one-hit wonder - it can keep unfolding, sometimes for days or weeks. Some insights literally have the power to change our lives, while others bring us a deeper understanding or perspective about something we already see or know to be true. Chasing or forcing an insight usually comes from a need for safety and control.
Pam shares a personal insight that led her to coaching and to her current work, which all began with the question, "but what if it is possible?"
What insight keeps whispering to you or tapping you on the shoulder? And what's one step you can take to make it possible for you?

After an extended check-in about how we're being, Vee and Pam dive into the question, what do you do with an insight? We talk about forcing our thoughts to try to make something happen, or creating meaning where there isn't any, and compare those to receiving an insight as an almost fully formed realization. We discuss the shifts we feel as a result, in which nothing looks different on the outside yet everything has changed because we have changed. And we recognize that an insight keeps unwrapping itself, offering us more gifts and opportunities as we say yes to its inspiration.

How do we prepare ourselves to receive deeper understanding - of ourselves, of a situation, or of our viewpoints? What does that require? This week Pam and Vee dive into how we manage our energy, both physically and mentally, as we receive insights as well as in the everyday routine. We talk briefly about the “rush” of living for highs and lows, compared with the steadier energy of daily life. We touch on the ways we can sabotage ourselves (and hint: we all do it), and we bring up expectation vs intention: setting ourselves up for disappointment or consciously creating the life we truly want.

This week, we're talking about getting back on track. We ask, what are the signs of internal disconnection? And what is this really about? We share our experiences with recognizing the ebb and flow of our own energetic and creative cycles, which feels quicker as we continue to stay present and aware. And we discuss the differences between chasing the extremes of high and low energy, vs accepting the gifts of "regular" everyday moments. When we live for just one moment, we miss out on the beauty and joy in all the other moments.
Today we’re asking, what helps us create balance and space for ourselves? Managing overwhelm is exhausting, and so many of us are feeling pinched and squeezed right now. Yet time and again we force ourselves to keep nose to the grindstone and at what cost? The price we pay is, at its core, disconnection - from others, maybe, and more deeply from ourselves. Pam and Vee talk about the ways we’ve started recognizing this cycle (episode 62 is a pretty clear example of being IN IT) and what we’re learning in the process.

This week’s check-in brings up a deeper discussion: how do we recognize our own low energy periods and how did we wind up here again?? We talk about the emotional loads we (and the collective we) are all carrying, about the stories we tell ourselves when we feel as though we’ve gone backward, and old coping mechanisms that no longer serve us. We also reflect on finding the wins and lessons, reminding ourselves that we have the tools we need, and the feelings of compassion and relief that rise up when we recognize that we do know what to do. Ultimately we agree that this is not about “fixing it,” instead it’s about leaning into grace, love, and compassion as we give ourselves what we need most.

Today, in the midst of intensity within us and around us, Pam and Vee ask, what’s different this time? We talk about some of our old self protective tendencies. We share thoughts about allowing ourselves to be wherever we are on the journey, rather than resisting the reality of what is. We reflect on the gifts of choosing to participate fully in life, and choosing where to put our energy instead of getting swept along by life’s current. Ultimately, we recognize that a strong inner foundation is key for both of us, and one of a number of things that’s different this time.
This episode starts with some deep breaths and a few pauses as Pam and Vee reflect on the year to date. We ask, how are you surfing the waves of life and what is anchoring you? Vee and Pam both share ways that we’ve been navigating “growth spurts” - those times of uncertainty, upheaval, expansion and shift that feel like they might knock us off our foundations. We talk about repeating cycles and asking, “what’s familiar about this?” We reflect on our Words of the Year (see eps 39 from 12.23.21 and 40 from 12.30.21 to hear more about Word of the Year) and recognize that we’re still learning and evolving, knowing that we always get to choose where our energy goes and how we use it.

As we make our way through life and its many changes, how do we stay balanced? Transitions in our own lives, and supporting others through life changes, can be overwhelming. Uncertainty and upheaval can sweep us off our feet. Where can we anchor ourselves to stay grounded? In the liminal space, a stillness found in the “in between” among all the action and distraction. The liminal space is in the pause between what was and what’s next. Pam and Vee share some of our experiences in this space. We share ways that we’ve learned to use this liminal space to integrate all that has happened and open to all that is to come. We talk about re-entering life after big changes, feeling as though time is speeding up, and how to give ourselves room for grief as we recognize what will no longer be.
Today Pam and Vee dive into ways that we navigate emotions when we’re faced with significant life changes. Times of transition can feel like we’re walking with a foot in both worlds - one world that is our normal daily life, the other world that is in constant upheaval with the emotional load of the shifts we’re experiencing. When we recognize what’s beyond our control, we can start to see what is in our control and accept the reality of what is, rather than what we wish it would be. We can begin to see the ways that our own self care helps us find moments of beauty and grace, even in the midst of big challenges.
By the time we get to the emotional state of, “I JUST CAN’T!” it feels like the only option is to let the explosion rip and then see what’s left in the rubble. In this episode, Vee and Pam start to explore some other choices. We ask, how do we release the pressure of anger and frustration so that it doesn’t overtake us? What are simple things we can do to reset our nervous systems so that we’re not stuck on high alert after the crisis is resolved? We discuss some simple strategies for releasing tension, and mostly today is about acknowledging what we’re feeling and recognizing that even simply talking about it can bring relief.
How does emotional or energetic high alert, or even medium alert, show up in your life? Where does it land in your body? And what do you find is helpful for you?

In today's episode, Pam and Vee continue to talk about navigating a crisis and how it ripples into the rest of our life. We share our experiences of riding the waves of weariness that roll in once the crisis has passed. Navigating a crisis demands an exceptional amount of energy. As the situation resolves, our bodies remind us just how much energy we've burned. Vee and Pam share some insights about nurturing ourselves in this tender time. We recognize that this kind of fatigue takes more than a couple days of rest, and offer a few suggestions for being gentle with ourselves.

In this episode, Pam and Vee dive a little deeper into our discussion about navigating a crisis. What does it take to keep going rather than crumble when a situation feels overwhelming? It starts with recognizing what we can control and what is beyond our control. We talk about triaging - deciding what is absolutely needed in the present moment and letting go of everything else. We share the benefits of leaning on daily practices, which can be both a soft landing place and a strong foundation in uncertain and challenging times. Ultimately, we come around to two clear and helpful questions: what do I need and what can I handle?
In today's podcast, Vee and Pam start a discussion about how we navigate personal crisis. We talk about taking responsibility in situations, and of ourselves in those situations - rather than waiting for someone to come and take charge, what happens when we are that person? We share insights about worrying, wondering how we'll show up and can we even do it. Pam and Vee share some personal stories and reflect on what has helped us most in navigating a crisis.
Break out the noisemakers! Grab a handful of confetti! Today we celebrate our 50th published podcast episode! Pam and Vee take some time today to reflect on this podcasting adventure and how it began, our journey together, and where we are now. We share some lessons learned along the way and where we'll go next. Hint: we both know it won't look the way we think it will look, and we're good with that! :) Thanks so much for taking this ride with us over the past year - here's to 50 more episodes and beyond!

In today's episode, Virginia touches on the double sided coin of avoidance and accountability. How does avoidance serve us? Where does it start? Vee offers some insights and perspective on how avoidance impacts our lives and why it can be so tricky to unpack. If you’re a recovering perfectionist, this one’s for you! With a little support from Brene Brown’s new book, “Atlas of the Heart,” Vee talks about what perfectionism is and isn’t, as well as the ways it sets us up for disappointment and self judgment. So how does completion fit in here? Completion sets us up for success. Once we recognize what that feels like and how it impacts us, we can replicate it and continue to benefit from it. What would change for you if you set yourself up for success with even one task every day?

In this episode, Tammy and Vee talk about mirroring - taking in, reflecting, and projecting old and uncomfortable emotions onto a present situation. We mirror the language and behaviors of others, as well as the styles and mannerisms. We get to choose how to use our energy - ask yourself, is this who I want to be right now?
Tammy also talks about labeling emotions and why this is a beneficial practice. Also, how do we take emotions out of the interaction so that we can engage from a less charged mindset?
When does mirroring promote lower vibration, and when does it elevate us?
Remember, we get to choose. Always.
This is episode 46. Today Vee follows up on the word "should," offering antidotes to the power of this "other S word." She talks about some of the ways we can decide whether "should" is telling the truth (hint: it isn't). Vee shares some simple actions that can help you recalibrate yourself so that you can stop "shoulding" on yourself and instead remember that you get to choose, always.
How often do you "should" on yourself? Do other people tend to "should" on you - and how do you handle it? In today's episode, Vee talks about the "other" S word: SHOULD. "Should" is a liar who will try to push you off your path. And whether you are "shoulding" on yourself or others are "shoulding" on you, the effects are the same - it stirs up a lot of emotions and can create tension and turmoil. Vee outlines some of the ways that the word "should" sets us up for failure, and also shares some ways to stop allowing it to derail you. Where does "should" pop up in your life, and how much longer are you willing to give it power?
We kinda let it all hang out today. In this episode, Pam and Vee share some frustrations as we start a deeper discussion about griping. What benefits do we get from complaining? Why do we bitch to each other? How do we start to see it in ourselves before it gets out of hand and does some damage? We talk about striking the balance between speaking our minds and silencing ourselves. We share ideas about the difference between healthy complaining and building resentment. We dive into Brene Brown's definition of resentment from her new book, Atlas of the Heart. And finally, we agree that we're not even close to being done with this topic - we'll be resuming this conversation next week and we hope you'll join us!
Every January, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with expectations - we’re supposed to be ready to hit the ground running, tackle piles of goals, and embrace the “new year, new me” approach to life. Today Pam and Vee talk about letting those expectations go and instead, revisiting our self care to see what’s still working and what needs adjusting. We ask, how can we weave the self care we need into our daily lives? We share a simple phrase: “this is what I do.” This phrase can help us create non-negotiable boundaries with ourselves so that we can stay clearly focused on our intentions, with less self judgment.
In today's episode, we welcome back Graciela Moore, certified coach and owner of Song of Myself Coaching. Grace is, among her many talents, a mindset expert and hope enthusiast whose coaching helps her clients see life through a lens of confidence, empowerment, and especially hope. How are you welcoming this New Year? In today’s episode, Vee and Pam talk about how we’re ushering in 2022. We start with sharing our own Words of the Year (which we talked about in eps 39 and 40). We discuss making conscious decisions about the actions we’ll take and the gains we’re aiming for over the next twelve months. We talk about ways to plan ahead and look forward, to build in bright spots and create our time with intention. And we remind each other that looking forward and planning are a keystone of coaching. What are you looking forward to this year? How can you plan ahead to create a year of your own choice?
In today's episode, we take a deeper dive into Word of the Year. Pam shares her insights and wisdom after working with this tool for over a decade. One of the most important things to remember is that you can't do this wrong - you can search "word of the year" or look at a list of core values to help you get started, and when you find a word that makes you feel nervous and excited at the same time, that's probably it! Even if you find after a few months that your word isn't what you thought it would be, here's the great news: you can choose a new word! You're still learning more about yourself and what works for you, and there's no such thing as a mistake with this tool.
Wouldn't you love to have a tool that's simple and fun to use, that will help you decide how you want to focus your energy for the coming year (or longer!)? You can - it's called the Word of the Year. Today Pam and Vee begin to discuss some great ways that Word of the Year has helped us discover what's most important to us. Pam has been using this tool for a long time and shares some helpful insights on how it works in ways we don't always expect. We both offer some words that have invited us to work with them in past years. If you'd like to try it out, search "word of the year" on the internet and you'll find all you need to get started - enjoy the discovery!
Today Vee and Pam talk about winning the holidays - giving ourselves and those around us the gifts of being present and making conscious choices and decisions. We share stories about the real magic that happens when we allow ourselves to just BE in a moment, savoring the calm and finding ways to really enjoy what’s right in front of us. Where can you find the gift of choosing to be present in your life? And how will you share that gift with those who matter most to you right now?
In today’s episode, Pam and Vee share about past holidays and enduring the season vs enjoying this time of the year. How do we choose what we want the holidays to be? We talk about how to begin to create new and more meaningful experiences during the holidays and all year long. What would you like to be different this year?
In today’s episode, Vee and Pam talk about taking care of ourselves during the holidays. Some of the topics we cover are expectations vs reality, no longer pretending everything is fine and we don’t need any help and obligations and resentments. We share some thoughts on laying down our unrealistic version of how the holidays should be, or as we call it, the big old bag of poop we have been carrying. How do you want to experience the holidays this year?
On today’s episode, we talk about Self- Care. What is your version of Self-Care and nurture? The connection between emotional regulation and self-care. Pam and Virginia share their journey to self-love and self-care.
On today’s episode, we talk about the big topic of Self-Care. How do we nurture ourselves? Some thoughts on emotional regulation and self-care. Why the typical list of Self-Care tips is not our path to self-care. What works for us now may not work for us a year from now. Finding your own path to what we each truly need to fill our Self up.
What do we do with our emotions? How our body lets us know what we are feeling. On today’s episode, we talk more about the connection between our bodies and emotions. Where do we feel our emotions? How does our body let us know what our emotions are trying to tell us? It can be as simple as taking a beautiful pause and noticing the physical sensations that come up. We end with two simple tools for connection to our bodies.

On today’s episode we talk about our capacity and being realistic about how much we have to give. 70% is the new 100%. When asked to do something, does it add to your energy well or deplete you? We discuss ways that our emotions are trying to tell us to slow down and make the choice to say yes or no. We dive into the conversation of how taking care of ourselves can be seen as selfish. We explore the idea of self-full so we can take care of ourselves and others. How do you help yourself be present to yourself?
On today’s episode, we start the conversation about the relationship between our emotions and our bodies. Virginia shares a chart with examples of how our emotional state is registered in our bodies. Pam shares the story of falling in love and feeling the full range of emotions and an example of the opposite state of being disconnected from her emotions. We talk about shame, love, anger, and the energy of emotions. How do you tune into your body and your emotions?

On today’s episode, we talk about a time when our emotions came out full force. We each shared how we ultimately had an ah-ha about our emotions. We asked ourselves, how could things be different? What is our part in making the necessary changes for what we truly want in life? We get to choose and how comfortable it is to not choose ourselves. We touch on anger as a catalyst for change. We wind up our chat sharing, how having language for our emotions helps us to keep going.
In today’s episode, we look at how emotions are part of life and lean into using our emotions in a way that helps us rather than hurts us. How do we befriend our emotions? We discuss knowing when to share and when to pull back in sharing our emotions. Without our emotions, what do we miss in life? We talk about the goal of emotional mastery and coming to the place of acceptance for all our emotions. Virginia and Pam both share how emotions were expressed and dealt with in our lives. The ongoing conversation within is about using our emotions to help us deal with setbacks and start as we grow in life.
On today’s episode, we look at the resistance that naturally comes up as we are doing the work of self-awareness and growth. We share about the responsibility we can take in choosing to move forward. What is your process in becoming and uncovering your truest self? We talk about how we measure safety and the risk it takes to grow. We share a bit of our process and progress in meeting resistance, keeping ourselves safe, and pushing through our limiting beliefs. We start to look at how much our emotions steer the ship. What are you currently resisting?
On today’s episode, we talk about those “things” that come up for us again and again and how we learn, grow, and respond. On the other side of I thought I was over this, we look at our resistance to going deeper. What is underneath, our opposition to looking at another way to see circumstances or challenges in our lives. The in-between of asking and taking action is called limbic space. We ask the question, what if I’m not up for this? What is the cost of not growing? What if I’m not enough for this new version of myself? Come and listen and see if anything sounds familiar in your life.
On today’s episode we pick on the topic of triggers. They surprise us and they come up again and again. We hope we are finished with our tender spots and our triggers won’t come up again. We talk about the relationship between triggers and shame and share a bit about Brene Brown’s work on shame. How is it that one comment can take us back to being a five year old? The triggers don’t go away or the emotional reactions disappear, but we take a look at what is happening and how we choose to respond. The ultimate question, what is familiar about this? And, how our reaction to other’s actions may very well be things we see in ourselves that we don’t like. We wrap up with how we both numb out at times with food as a result of being triggered.
On today’s episode, we continue our talk about resilience. How being helpers teaches us about not asking for help ourselves. Unlearning our old patterns and trying something different. The resiliency we gain from some of our toughest experiences. The definition of resilience is the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties. “Quickly” is relative but we learn from each experience and each time we use our resilience muscle to help ourselves. We share about the emotional load we are all experiencing and the many decisions we are required to make. What is your definition of resilience?
On today’s episode, we talk about resilience. We all have so many decisions to make with all that is going on in the world. How do we make meaning out of what we are experiencing? We ask the question, how do we navigate our lives as we head into the fall season? We share about how others help us to see past the fog and get back to the present. We are all still figuring it out. We talk about how we all have less capacity and giving ourselves more grace can help. How do we manage our weariness and take the space we each need to accept where we are at this moment?
Today we shared some thoughts on accountability and support. What does the word accountability mean for you? Pam shares a story about herself at five years old, wanting to be a good girl and perfect. What expectations do you feel you must live up to? We talk about responsibility and our part in moving forward and making changes. We speak about the Cha Cha Cha of change and how it won’t look the way we think it will look. As coaches, we are not the ones in charge, and we don’t tell others what they need to do to change. As coaches, we support others to lead themselves, take small steps, experiment with new ways of being, and begin to show up for themselves.
Today we continue our conversation about living on auto-pilot and how the awakening feels and looks for each of us. How does it feel for you? Similarly, we both felt raw, almost naked, vulnerable, and shared about not knowing the language or ways of living our authentic life. We share about being vs doing our life. We share more on how we talk to ourselves and how we can be gentle with this new experience. We love questions, so we talk about asking the focus questions of “what do I need?” and “what matters most?” We move towards looking at our strengths and the basic needs we all have of nutrition, hydration, and sleep as we awaken and start to look at “now where do we go?” Winding down our talk about getting support and not feeling alone in this new land of awakening.
Today, we continued our conversation about living on auto-pilot and recap what we have covered in these conversations. We have looked at our own awakenings or breaking through auto-pilot and how it has been a slow process of uncovering our auto-pilot state and how over time, the breakthroughs come quicker and we are learning and growing through each cycle. How denial keeps us on auto-pilot and what we thought was happening during our auto-pilot runs. And, we chat about how we can take rest periods instead of slipping into auto-pilot once again. We talk about living with our emotions and connecting to all parts of ourselves with support and authenticity. What do I truly want? Who do I want to be in the world, and more? We wrap up with looking at taking our next small conscious actions.
We dive deeper into Living on Autopilot and share what those first awakening feelings of coming up to the surface felt like for both of us. Each of us will have our own version of coming out of autopilot and what that means for us going forward. We chat about anger, remorse and resentments in feeling so many new-to-us emotions. How do we stay with the emotions, the confusion and the fear to become our full selves? Join us in the conversation and we hope this sparks some thoughts for you too.
Today we continue on the topic of living on auto-pilot. What are the signs we are slipping back? What does living on auto-pilot mean for you? We chat about the idea of not being able to unknow what we know. As we recognize our own state of auto-pilot we are aware it’s happening. We can start to see it for what it is and the noticing comes faster. We have the power to choose where we go next, who we talk to or what help we ask for. With the awareness of auto-pilot and the knowing that we can choose to take different action, we start to feel and ultimately connect more deeply with ourselves.
Living on Auto-Pilot. On today’s episode, we talk about what it has meant to live our lives on auto pilot or going through the motions of life. What groove are we living? How do we engage in our authentic lives? What makes us drawn back to auto pilot? We ponder the difference between getting some solitude vs escaping our big lives. Come along and share our conversation and consider the cost of living our lives on auto pilot.
(This one takes us back to the holiday season of December 2019.)
Vee and Pam talk about expectation vs intention. Are you living in a movie reel where everything has to look perfect (expectation) or leading from your heart (intention)? We talk about consciously choosing to do things differently, and about how giving ourselves permission to change also makes room for other people to do the same. Recognizing the patterns we live in, some of them learned from our own parents and families, gives us an opportunity to “tug on the string” of an old pattern and essentially unravel it. Where in your life are you living with expectations? What is one pattern you can recognize and start to unravel? How can you begin to live with more heart-led intention?
In this episode, Pam and Vee talk about getting buried under an emotional load and what it takes to ask for help. When and how do we know that pushing through is not the best choice? Being vulnerable and honest with ourselves, giving ourselves permission to say, “I need to stop,” or, “I need help,” can be uncomfortable and is also one of the strongest actions we can take. Whose permission are you waiting for in order to ask for what you need?
What do I do now? On today’s episode, we talk about facing transitions and supporting ourselves along the way. Cutting ourselves some slack, is it an excuse or much-needed rest? Do we really cut ourselves slack or are we running the list of the things we need to do? We share about the voice of the principal in our heads who corrects us quite a bit when we are not doing something productive. Getting to believing that “for now, this is enough” and taking a deep breath. In this episode we don’t have specific answers, simply thoughtful and personal shares on our own life adventures.
On today’s episode, we venture back to November of 2019 right before Thanksgiving. We share about listening to our inner voice and following the unknown knowing rather than following our traditional patterns and routines. Gratitudes for hearing and trusting what we are being called to understand. What is our intuition trying to tell us? How does being intentional about our time change the experience? Although this podcast was recorded before lockdown, the message feels relevant as we look to our next moves in the changing landscape of today. We talk about the meaning of listening, hearing, and being intentional. What do we need to help us to move through our lives in a new way? Or in other words, “Honey, what do you need?”
Today's topic is interesting - literally, the word, "interesting." This word, along with many others, can have many different meanings depending on how it's used and delivered in a conversation. This can influence not only the interaction, but also color the entire relationship. Words like "interesting" can promote curiosity, escalate a situation, or completely shut down a discussion. Today Pam and Vee talk about how to hear and recognize some of these potential pitfalls before we're blindsided, and how to get curious and find out more in order to keep a discussion open, balanced, and engaging.
On today’s episode, we talk about seeing everything as practice as a way to support and love ourselves. We talk about letting go of perfectionism and doing what we truly want to do and be. How can we help ourselves to take small steps, imperfectly and live our life right now? Life is a practice and we can practice every day with self compassion, attention, and awareness right now rather than waiting to get it just right.
On today’s episode, we talk about having a weird cold, and the message it brings. Rest, changes, striving, pushing ourselves to the limit, and how our bodies speak to us. Why we need rest, recovery, and some time to slow down and tune in. The body speaks….and says “Remember how important it is to take care of yourself.” Sharing experiences of pushing, listening, and hearing what our bodies are trying to tell us in today’s conversation.
On today’s episode, we dive into asking: what do we really really want? What are we asking for? What are we asking to receive? Being, doing, and having…..with clarity. Showing up, self-worth, vulnerability, changing, choosing, and clarity are shared in today’s conversation.
This episode was recorded on October 7, 2019. There is an early reference to, "last week's discussion," which is not our previous podcast of episode 006. Also, this is episode 007, not 008, thanks to an uncaffeinated intro recording. ;)
On today’s episode, we are talking about receiving. Diving into false beliefs about receiving vs giving. Why does giving feel easy and receiving difficult? Self-talk, being the best giver and giving gifts, compliments, and more are discussed in today’s conversation.
How do you handle bumps in the road? What do you do and what does your ego tell you when the obstacles feel never-ending? On today’s episode, we talk about perfection, practice, and permission in the face of challenges that block our path. What would change for you if you gave yourself permission to do something differently? What could you accomplish from a mindset of practice over perfection?
This episode was recorded in April 2019.
What does the word "practice" mean to you? Beyond a yoga practice or a meditation practice, what if you gave yourself the space to see lifeas a practice? As a pair of "recovering perfectionists," Pam and Vee discuss what can happen when we view perfection as the goal and when we consciously decide to see things differently. What if you gave yourself the gifts of awareness and attention? How would you begin to change your life?
This episode was recorded November 6, 2019.
When changes are looming in your life, how do you respond - do you push yourself forward or give yourself extra care? Do you listen to your body's messages or ignore them? Our bodies tell us what we need and it's up to us to listen, especially in the face of shifts and transformation. In this episode, Vee and Pam share a few of their own experiences with tuning in to these body messages. Here's a question: what if your body's illness and recovery is not a setback but an opportunity for you to integrate your own growth?
(This episode was recorded in January 2020.)
How do we open to our own creativity? What keeps us from diving in? What would change for you if you paid attention to the creative process instead of focusing only on the end product? Vee and Pam talk about the cycle of creativity and how to enhance your own experience as you surf your creative flow.
