Our podcast is an extension of the nonprofit Youth Research Institute. We interview professors, graduate students, and researchers so that we can provide listeners with a deeper dive into high-quality research and the typical day of a professional scientist. We also talk about professors' research projects and how they were able to reach where they are. We also discuss activities and advice that professors and researchers have up-and-coming students who want to pursue research in the future, whether it be in STEM, humanities, or arts.
In this episode, we learn about computational astronomy and the impressive advancements in space technology. We have an in-depth discussion of possible research pathways for astronomy with Dr. Howard Isaacson, a professor at UC Berkeley. We also learn about Dr. Isaacson's research course, Intro2Astro, where Dr. Isaacson and his colleagues teach students an introductory astronomy research training course on how to use Python to analyze astronomy datasets. If you'd like to get involved in this course, check out their website and fill out a Google Form to sign up. Intro2Astro is completely free and accessible on YouTube and Github.
