Sidenote Stories

Welcome to Sidenote Stories, where your hosts Jessica and Juliette sit down together to chat about all things lifestyle, self-love, and personal development in your 20s.

We are two best friends who created a space so safe between ourselves to share inspiration, guidance, and our own experiences that we wanted to extend that space to others.

Consider us your virtual gal pals with who you can figure out life and share some tears, thoughts, and laughs with along the way. love, J&J 🤍

Whether you want to call them arguments, fights, disagreements, conflict, or vulnerable conversations (and we do talk about our preference on this!)... the reality is you cannot, and should not, avoid them.

In this episode Jessica & Juliette talk about disagreements and how they can either strengthen your relationships if done correctly or cause a world of damage. We share the lessons we have learned along the way and the rules which we follow to allow a difficult conversation to stay an open and safe exchange of feelings with love and trust instead of escalating into something big and scary.

The "we're not really strangers" movement created a card game and social media platform designed to bring people closer together by asking them the most thoughtful, deep, and sometimes difficult questions. Turn strangers into friends or lovers, bring a relationship even closer, or at the very least allow people to understand each other and their perspectives better.

In this episode, we are playing this exact card game. Tune in to hear us answer questions such as "what have you envied in the past that you can laugh at now?" and "are you healed or just distracted?", and join us in the conversation where we end up swapping ghost stories and childhood memories.

In this episode Jessica and Juliette discuss the values and detriments of using labels in friendship, especially the ever famous BFF. This may initially seem like surprising a topic for two self-proclaimed best friends to tackle, but when you listen you will get to hear a lot of different insights on "best friendship". We talk about how important it is (and sometimes seems to be) to have a best friend, whether it can be toxic to focus on just one person, and what it means for your other friendships to put one friend on a special pedestal - is it maybe possible to have multiple besties?

We share our opinions and propose some solutions how to navigate these dilemmas. Let us know what you agree with and found useful, or if you have a completely different opinion. We really love hearing from you and getting to know your own Sidenote Stories!

With this episode we are launching our brand new series "Moral of the Story", in which we will take our time sharing smaller, more specific, and more personal stories or anecdotes from our lives to extract the valuable lessons we learned from them. We thoroughly believe that we each grow with every up or down in life, and that even the smallest moments or even just one exchange or thought can end up changing your entire life trajectory.

In this episode Jessica takes us through her gap year in which she learned why sometimes your plans not working out and life telling you no is exactly what was meant to happen to bring you where you were truly meant to be. She tells us about her career dreams at 18, her health struggles, and how she rejected rejection to get into the university she wanted.

Welcome back to Sidenote Stories for a chat with Jessica & Juliette all about physical health! This is part two of a multi-part series all about the different aspects of one's health.

Our take on physical health is the nourishment of your body, setting yourself up for physical success, listening to your body, and being kind to your body. However, we do want to give a TW as we briefly discuss eating habits, diet culture, weight loss, and EDs.

In this episode we share our own experiences with physical health and how we perceive the idea of the health of our bodies, from how we learned as children to how it has stuck with us into our 20s now. We discuss what it is like to struggle with your health in a healthy and able-bodied centric society, natural remedies vs medicine, advocating for yourself with doctors, learning that your body does not define you , and the wealth of health. As always we share our own stories and sidenotes with you in the hopes that it you can relate and/or learn a new perspective.

For more content you can find us on Instagram @sidenotestories - give us a follow for daily stories, our deeper thoughts that we don't feature in episodes, and a space to engage with us. Sending love!

Something has been in the air, and things are just feeling... different. In this episode we discuss the many changes we have been noticing in daily life, and why we feel like this may be a manifestation of a larger shift in societal and cultural behaviours and values. We talk about changing beauty standards, the aftermath of covid on what we prioritise, the great resignation trend, and how people are using social media differently - and how these are all connected in a return to the self, the former, or the natural.

This is part 1 of this two part series, and part 2 will be released next week to continue the conversation with a focus on celebrity, social media, and parasocial relationships as well as our own individual lifestyles and even personalities. Join us in this series to explore the Zeitgeist we currently find ourselves in, to ponder what the future may hold, and to think about what this all means for our personal development and self-care. 💭
