Season 1 Episode 1: We've Found the Answer
In Episode 1, Josh jumps in by answering three key questions: 1). Why start the Jesus Family podcast?, 2). How can we know today's church is broken?, and 3). What makes this podcast difference? Scriptures discussed are Matthew 7:15-21 and Galatians 5:19-23. Here are discussion questions based on the teaching episode:
1 - Josh started by talking about marriage. If you were around a marriage, would you be able to get a sense of the health of that marriage? What would be some of the signs (or fruit) that you would look for?
2 - As you feel comfortable, talk through your religious upbringing and history with the church. Did you attend as a child? Was your experience good, bad or indifferent? What positive impact does the church have in your community? What (if any) negative impact does it have?
3 - Read Matthew 7:15-20. Jesus shared divine wisdom when he instructed us to determine someone’s true intentions by their fruit, not by their words. How have you experienced this truth? Have you ever encountered someone who’s actions (fruit) did not match their words? What was the giveaway?
4 - Read Galatians 5:19-23 and the two lists of fruit Paul gave the churches to determine whether they were living by the Spirit or the flesh. Which list is more accurate of the churches you have encountered? How often do we use these lists as a gauge of the health or toxicity of a church?
5 - Josh finished by sharing a complex math question and compared that to our lack of knowledge of what the New Testament church actually looked like. We need to learn how to solve the problem ourselves. As we begin this journey, what lingering questions do you still have about Jesus or the Bible?
