Listen to the very first episode of the Get Involved Podcast with Wes and Michael. We introduce ourselves and give you a little taster of what you can expect in the future.
To mark World Obesity Day, Saturday 4th March 2023 we chatted with Fiona Wyse about her weightloss journey. The things that she has tried and her latest experience with Ozempic.
It certainly was a great chat and I we learned a lot.
We hope that you enjoy listening.
This week I sat down agin with conscience and we chatted about going to Therapy.
What started out as a planned chat about onbe particular topic soon moved on to something a little deeper. It wasn't planned but when are we ever going to stick to the map - sometimes the bets conversations are had when you head off road a little bit.
There is a warning though - some of the chat towards the middle and end is very serious and might cause upset to some listeners. You won't know unless yiu give it a try.
Aisling always has brought out the best in me and she certainly knows the right questions to be asking!
Enjoy the latest episode of the Get Involved Podcast!
What has Therapy and Google Maps got in common.
Well listen to this episode to find out exactly what that is according to our next guest Marcus Cowzer.
From football at an early age to now very close to becoming a fully qualified psycotherapist Marcus Cowzer was a pleasure to have in the shed.
We had a very frank conversation about feelings and communication. We spoke about going to therapy and what it can help you achieve.
Put the kettle on make a brew, sit back, relax and enjoy this latest episode of the Get Involved Podcast!
Guess who's back for Season 2 Episode 7 - its the newly annointed Pope Pious Wes II
Things get a bit controversial when we deep dive into the lads recent experience with confirmations.
Wes gets the usual digs in and does his best to wind Michael up.
The one thing that we worked out that that Pope Pious Wes II does not like to commit!
Wonders will never cease to amaze.
So sit back and enjoy our latest episode!
Unfortunately Wes couldn't be with us due to work commitments however I was able to convince Conscience Corner (Aisling) to fill in at short notice.
I really wanted to talk about the Mens Hike on Saturday just gone and not let the event go unmarked.
We nearly forgot to give a shoutout to our new friend Sean Dutton who we met at the shelters in Portmarnock who is celebrating a huge milestone in his life.
Hopefully balance will be restored to the force and we will get Wes back into the hot next week.
I doubt that there are too many people out there who will want to hear a husband and wife shooting the breeze no matter how serious the topic.
We went all grown up with this episode!
Our guest was Una Curran a wellness and minfulness coach from our very own village of Ratoath.
There was little or no messing on this episode as we diascussed how Una got into doing what she does.
The conversation flowed and we for sure learned an awful lot.
Have a listen and see does something resonate with you?
This week we had the pleasure of talking to Keith Dixon of Keith Dixon Fitness in Clondalkin. We have been on the lookout for a fitness expert to come in and have a chat to us. And Keith answered the call and came on in. Have a listen for yourself and hear some myths being discussed and dispelled.
This week the chat is about Love Island being back on the telly and we talk about their own language that they seem to have invented. Social Media is high on the agenda again as Wes is takling a break from all the popular platforms for the foreseeable future - have a listen to find out why.
We discuss plans for the future and guests that will be coming in to talk to us in the coming weeks.
In Season 2 Episode 2 we got to talk to a true VW Enthusiast - Darren O'Brien.
We had wanted to talk to Darren a while back but the stars never alligned for us that time.
So this was our second bite at the cherry and boy didn't we learn a lot.
I'll not give any of the facts away here - you have to listen for yourself to hear that.
Well the first one of 2023 was a spirited one for sure.
I'm going to leave it for you to listen to and make up your own mind.
All I know is we enjoyed it and were knackered afterwards!
Get Involved with Wes & Michael. Two former school classmates that have reconnected in later life and found that they quite a lot in common. What resulted is the podcast you are about to hear. The last episode of Season 1 - welcome to The Get Involved Podcast Episode 52. As ever the chats are flowing. Sit back listen and enjoy!
It goes a little all over the place this episode! We don't finish off anywhere we intended when we started out. Conscience corner was in attendance and we gave it a go to video the episode to put it up on YouTube - I can safely say that I (Michael) have a face and body for radio. We aren't everyones cup of tea but we are someones cup of coffee - to quote Wes! Either way we are both here and ready to #getinvolved. Enjoy listening!
Episode 50 introduces us to Conscience Corner and Aisling! Now we have someone who will pop in from time to time to make sure we are not breaking any of the rules or upsetting anyone along the way. As the silly season is fast approaching we got to talking about our favourite and worst presents - Christmas Song - Christmas Movies etc. Sure take a listen an hear how we got on!
Well it's nearly our one year anniversary and Wes and Micheal are in giddy form. We take the time to think back over the last year and what we have achieved. Our funniest moment and our favourite moments. A lot had been discussed and lot has been learned by both of the lads but most importantly we are happy that we got involved and started doing the #getinvolved podcast. There needs to be a little bit of a warning as in the heat of conversation a few fruity words slipped out this episode. Nonetheless we hope that you give it a listen and enjoy what we bring your way!!
This evening we had a guest come in to talk to us about alcohol addiction and the disruption that it can cause to a persons life. Emmet talks to us very candidly and openly about his own struggles with alcohol and how he went into a rehab program and turned his life around. He is now 13 years without alcohol and you will hear how he now lives the life he really wants. A truly inspirational story and well worth having a listen to. Thanks so much Emmet for taking the time to talk to us!
We had a guest planned for this week but unfortunately life can get in the way and we had to postpone. Darren has been rebooked and will join us very soon.
It's just two regular, everyday guys sitting in a shed at the bottom of the garden. Life has meant that we haven't had a chance to talk over the last few weeks. So we have a lot to catch up on. Log on, sit back and have a listen. We hope that you enjoy it.
Episode 45 already and its a special day for one Kate Killoran who today turns the big 18!
We get to talk about the recent Wim Hof Workshop that Michael and Aisling went along to. We also talk a little about see swimming and cold showers!
This episode we discuss the reasons why we play sports. Do we do it for a reason or do we just fall into them. Some people play to win and some just play sports to be part of a team. Have a listen and let us know what you think? Also the first person to correctly answer the question we posed wins a Get Involved Personalised Mug!
Its already 10 months in and we are on Episode 43. In this episode we randomly touch on the subject of Swinging an the random fact of Mullagh being a hotbed of action. Sam Carroll gets a shout out and we talk about the upcoming Ice Bath experience that we will be doing on October 8th in Blackrock Co. Louth.
What started out as a very light hearted episode very quickly got serious! Today we spoke in a very candid way about Michael's struggles with his mental health. Wes wondered was though love the answer to the issue - but an open discussion hopefully shed some much needed light on the situation!
Either way sit back and enjoy and let us know what you think??
Still in the holiday mode we spend the time catching up on what we both have been getting up to. Shout out goes to Will Cheevers who even managed to phone in to say Hi during the recording. Also a massive shout out to our biggest fan Nick to whom we are very grateful. So sit back grab a cup of tea, relax and take a listed to Episode 41.....
Just back off his summer holidays Michael catches up with Wes. We talk about the books we have and haven't read and what we have gotten up to over the last few weeks. Have a listen and let us know what you think?
A nice warm day in the cabin at the end of the garden it was. Although we probably didn't have too much to talk about before we hit record the conversation flowed. We chatted about the book that Wes has started to read and compared notes on the different therapies available to people who struggle with their negative thoughts. We also talked about the good service Michael got when he eventually went to Specsavers. All in all the conversation just flowed. Michael is still doing his best to get over Wes's outburst of laughter when Michael said he felt he was fat!!!
Since its the summer season we are still just having the general chats between us. This episode is a bit like just being a fly on the wall of one of our coffee chats. We have a few different topics that we cover, including the rugby results, what to watch on Netflix, drugs in sport and a few other random topics. And of course its Adams Birthday so he got his very own rendition of Happy Birthday.
This episode we have a chat about communication and what it means to us. Wes gives his verdict on the Ireland victory over the All Blacks and his prediction for the final game of the test. #getinvolved and let us know what you think?
This Episode focuses on the main reason why we have been a little bit slow to record and upload more content recently. Michael explains to Wes where he has been going for last 6 weeks and tries to put a bit of perspective on his struggles with Mental Health. Wes by his own admission has very little exposure to mental health problems so it's a learning curve for us both. We are back in action and rearing to #getinvolved
We take a moment to have a think back over the last few episodes and what they have taught us. There's a little discussion around the feedback that we got from some listeners recently and the endless chat around who actually is the funniest out of the pair of us. Needless to say we are both on this episode and we are ready to #getinvolved
Our very first Road Trip with the Podcast. We headed to Easky in Sligo for our chat with Karen from Soak Batch Salts. Karen relocated from Dublin to Sligo primarily for her son but has found the pace fo life over there also perfect for her blooming business too. Take a listen as Karen tells us all.
The episodes guest is Ronan Halpenny. Ronan works in the area of disability services and had reached out to us to come in and have a chat about disabilities and Neuro Diversity. We really did learn a lot from the conversation and we would for sure like to have Ronan back in the delve more into the topic as we learn more through our journey on the podcast.
This is our LIVE Episode for Pieta House, Darkness into Light. We setup our little podcasting rig outside As You Like It Cafe in the middle of Ratoath Village and we did our best to speak to as many of the participants as we could as they returned from the Fairyhouse Racecourse for their early morning breakfast. We had a little jar for people to make any donation they felt appropriate and we raised €135 for Pieta House in the process. Hope you enjoy the listen!
We were delighted to welcome an old school mate to have a serious conversation about his struggle with cancer. It was certainly an interesting conversation and his outlook was certainly positive. Please do take a listen.
As Wes so rightly stated at the start of this Episode - we are in he double digits now!!! He'll eventually catch up with the rest of us.
We talk about a little bit of everything in Episode 30. We touch on sport, training for sport and our little take on sports psychology. I don't know if any team will be beating our door down to get us on their coaching staff :-)
We get to discuss the finer points of body image. Whether it's the way we look or how the way we looks makes us feel. Michael shares his feelings about one of the things he dislikes about his appearance. We both agree that we mentally feel a lot younger than we actually look but that over time our bodies are starting to dictate what we can and can't do, something we both don't really like!
Its a Good Friday and we got the pleasure of having Aisling on the podcast with us. We talk about Mass and Spirituality. We also touch on death and funerals. Have a listen and we hope that you enjoy the off the cuff conversation.
Its been a long time since we got to speak to you all. But I think you'll agree that we fairly got everything back on track with this latest episode. If it's about communication then this is the episode for you!
This episode we took the opportunity to think back over the past 25 episodes and talk about what we have learned. It was an enjoyable episode from our side as we have really learned a lot about different things. We hope that you enjoy it too?
We recorded this episode while on our trip to the mountains. We took the families to Laragh and Glendalough for a few days away from the hustle and bustle of everyday city life. Little or no internet access and plenty of time to be outside in the fresh air. This episode we got to talk to Se O Hanlon - my father in law and former 4 times winner of the RAS cycle race back in the 60's.
We had another guest in the cabin again today.
Terrie Pugh joined us to talk about all things gut and its relationship with the mind and anxiety and mental health.
Todays episode was a little longer than usual but we certainly crammed in as much as we could into the whole conversation.
We will definitely have Terrie back in to talk to us a little bit more.
Please do take a listen and tell us what you thought?
A bit of an off the cuff episode today. We were just shooting the breeze in the kitchen and the whim took us to head out the cabin and knock one out. In this episode we talked about the conflict in Ukraine and particularly how it's being reported in the news. Is Sky News sensationalist in the way it reports news? Could they report in a better way and are we been given access to the facts? Either way what is happening in Ukraine is a totally disgraceful situation and should not be tolerated or allowed. The question we also discussed is what can we do about it? Take a listen and see what you think.
We had another guest in the cabin on this episode. Dave AKA Mexy came in and we talked about all things music. Naturally enough we drifted off topic a bit and had a good bit of craic. Wesley took some notes and has a few artists to research as homework. We will for sure have Mexy back on in the future.
This episode we continue to explore the random topics that you sent our way! We also decide that we might soon need a sponsor - is that you? Wes puts Michael in his place by claiming the Funniest title and branding Michael a curtain twitcher. Mammy Bridget makes a surprise call and we got the good news that Daddy Micheal is coming home from hospital tomorrow.
We were delighted to get so many responses to our call to action on topics. In this episode we do our best to get through as many suggestions as possible.
The Tinder Swindler is number one in the Netflix's chart and worth a watch. Wes & Michael have wanted it and are now ready to Get Involved and give you our verdict. We delve deeper into the myths of Social Media and what turns us off it. Is it social media in general or is it particular apps that get our goat.
We finally got to talk about Wes's favourite subject - SOCIAL MEDIA.
Michael threw out the bait and he took it hook, line and sinker.
Listen as we talk about the good and the bad of social media.
We were back on our own again for this episode. We had some chat about the written word and Wes has promised to write Michael a letter to test out his writing skills. Aisling made a very quick visit to the log cabin but legged it before she got a change to #getinvolved
This episode we have the great pleasure of talking to our two daughters. Niamh & Kate or Kate & Niamh chose to join us and Get Involved. We talk about all things Friend Groups and about our experiences in school. We definately will have these two back on again!
This episode we talk about personal values and what makes a person tick. I tell Wes about my reading of the Squiggly Career. Its a book worth reading if you have the time or the inclination.
In this episode we have our first guest Anna Kavanagh! Anna came to talk to us about the group that was setup in the Ratoath Community Centre. We slightly went over time on this episode but we touched on the recent death of Ashling Murphy in Tullamore and the safety of young women in society.
In this episode we have a great chat because we haven't seen each other for a few weeks due to the aul Covid. We have some more shout outs and have some talk about keeping up with the Jones's and the effects that this can have on our overall wellbeing.
In this episode we have a great chat because we haven't seen each other for a few weeks due to the aul Covid. We have some more shout outs and have some talk about keeping up with the Jones's and the effects that this can have on our overall wellbeing.
Things start out easy but get very serious in this eipsode - we talk about bulling in school and the workplace.
Episode 9 is one of longest podcasts yet - sometimes the chat does just flow. In this episode we talk about Music and of all things Toilet Paper.
We look to get a bit more structure to the podcast - there are the usual Shout Outs but we also have the 3 random topics to discuss and normally they can take us anywhere at all.
We start off with a few shout outs and then get onto some more serious topics like our wedding song....
We threw a few random topics out for conversation - funniest moments and favourite films etc.
We talked about the fact that some of our content might not exactly be suitable for younger years - so listener discretion is advised.
This episode we talk about how this episode nearly didn't happen at all. I mention Maurice and how he made me laugh.
In this Episode we talk about the demise of my little Mini and how we are or aren't car people. Obviously we are not able to keep on track so things go a little bit off the beaten track.
Today we talk about what we wanted to be when we grew up and what actually happened to those dreams and aspirations.
