When you think about a nit at the poker table, who comes to mind? I doubt any of you thought of former WSOP Main Event final runner-up David Williams! During GGPoker’s Game of Gold in South Korea, Williams finds himself holding two pair and faces a bet on the river from one of poker’s most formidable overlords – Jason Koon. But will Williams manage to make the right decision and call?
As the preflop raiser, you should be careful with continuation betting on medium connected boards when playing against the big blind. Their range will hit that board more frequently which means you will face a higher amount of aggression through check-raises. This puts your holdings that have over cards in a tricky situation and will often mean you need to fold a decent amount of equity.

Filmed in Seoul, South Korea and hosted by experienced poker broadcaster Ali Nejad, Game of Gold combines high stakes poker with survival reality TV. Over the course of the 12 episodes, the sixteen participants competed across various poker formats, including Sit & Go’s, Heads-Up games, Indian Poker and a standard tournament poker game.

In Round 1, a four-tier Sit & Go poker format, each team (spades, diamonds, hearts, and clubs) put a poker player into a separate round of four-handed poker action, with Game of Gold coins on offer for finishing first, second, third, or fourth. The rounds increased in the amount of coins that were offered, until the fourth ‘mystery’ round, where no-one knew how many coins were on offer. The team with the least Game of Gold coins at the end of all four Sit & Go’s would be eliminated.
The final six players competed in a winner-take-all format Sit & Go (SNG). This was unique as it meant there was no Independent Chip Model (ICM) pressure on any of the poker players.

Preflop:David Williams raises to 160,000 from the button with KJo. After the small blind folds, Jason Koon defends from the big blind with a dominated JTo, and they head to the flop.
Flop – 8s 7c 3h:Koon flops two overcards and a gutshot straight draw. He checks from out of position and Williams fires a continuation bet of 150,000 with his two broadway cards and backdoor straight draw. Koon calls as they both head to the turn.
Turn – Js:The J of spades on the turn is disastrous for Koon as he has hit top pair but is out-kicked by Williams. He checks and Williams decides to exercise some pot control by checking back.
River – Kh:The king of hearts on the river is an overcard to Koon’s pair of jacks. However, this doesn’t scare him as he takes the betting lead and fires out a bet of 480,000. Williams has improved to a disguised backdoor top two pair. But what will the WSOP Main Event runner-up do? Fold? Surely not! Be a nit and just call, or put in the raise? When you are the biggest stack at a final table, you often want to use frequent aggression with smaller bet sizes. This allows you to build the pot to put your opponent all-in by the river. It also forces a competent opponent to overfold, because they will know that they are likely going to be facing bets on multiple streets.

Preflop:In a blind-on-blind encounter, Justin Zaki limps in from the small blind with A7o. Chip leader Jonathan Little checks from the big blind with 84o and they both head to the flop.
Flop – 5h 3s 3c:Zaki’s ace-high is still best on the five-high flop. He checks with two overcards and a backdoor straight draw. Little fires out a bet of 60,000 with eight-high and a backdoor straight draw. Zaki calls and they continue to the turn.
Turn – 9d:The 9 of diamonds on the turn completes the badugi board. Zaki checks again with the best hand. Little doesn’t pick up any backdoor draws but decides to check it back.
River – Qc:The Q of clubs doesn’t improve either player’s hand. Zaki checks, surely hoping that he can get to showdown cheaply. Jonathan knows his eight-high will be second best if he checks behind, so he decides to bluff and fires out a bet of 150,000 for half-pot. Zaki is an experienced poker player and knows that Little, as the chip leader, can apply a lot of Independent Chip Model (ICM) pressure on him at this final table. Rampage Poker can’t help himself from blasting away whenever he senses weakness from his opponents. Whilst playing in a cash game at The Wynn, Rampage finds himself overbetting the river with a blocker to the nuts. Will he get away with it, or will he get his hand caught in the cookie jar and add another epic punt to his resume?
You should use overbets as one of your bet sizes for bluffs and strong value hands. When your opponents face overbets, they are put in uncomfortable and tricky situations that they are not used to. They have to risk a lot compared to what they usually face in their normal games, where people generally bet much smaller.

He checks and faces a second barrel of $260 from his opponent. This time Rampage check-raises to $1,000 using his ten blocker to represent the nut straight, whilst still having some equity if he does get called. His opponent makes the call, and they head to the river.
River – 3c:The 3 of clubs on the river is a total brick for Rampage who misses his double belly-buster straight draw and is left with just ace-high. As we all know, Rampage isn’t one to give up on a bluff and he fires an overbet of $3,300 into a pot of around $2,500. Big Slick, Anna Kournikova, or just plain old ace-king can be one of the hardest hands to play when deep-stacked and out of position. Brown Balla found himself in this exact spot after he had just called a 5-bet out of position during a high stakes cash game at The Lodge Card Club. But the high stakes regular had some tricks up his sleeve after bricking the flop and turn. Can he find a way to win with just ace high?
When you are playing extremely deep-stacked poker, your 5-betting range should primarily consist of pocket aces and low-suited aces. In order to balance your range you want to make sure that you have some bluffs that block your opponent from having the nuts as well as having the nuts yourself!

Flop – Ts 9c 7d:The ten-high board misses both players’ suited aces. Brown Balla remains ahead with a backdoor straight draw and backdoor nut flush draw. He checks to the preflop aggressor, Alex, who puts out a continuation bet of $20,000 with just a backdoor flush draw. Brown Balla seems to think his ace-king, a.k.a Anna Kournikova, might still be good as he makes the call, and they head to the turn.
Turn – 8h:The 8 of hearts on the turn completes the badugi board and puts a four-liner to a straight out. Meaning, any player holding a seven or jack would make a straight. Brown Balla seems to think he has more straights in his range as he leads out for a tiny bet of $18,000. Alex doesn’t believe him though as he puts in a min-raise to $36,000 with a worse ace-high. How will Brown Balla respond to this, will he fold with no pair or draw, will he call to see a river, or will he go do something only an insane poker player would do and decide to raise? Whilst playing in a Triton Poker cash game, the usually loud-mouthed amateur was silenced after poker professional Mikita Badziakouski raised to a whopping €400,000 as a bluff. An over-the-top celebration could possibly follow if Tony G is able to find this miraculous hero call!
When playing multi-way pots, you should generally play tighter post-flop. In multi-way situations after there is a bet and a call on the flop or the turn, someone is likely to have a strong hand. This forces you to proceed only with the top of your range or very high equity draws. Hands such as second pair or very weak top pairs have to be folded more frequently.

Thinking about ICM (Independent Chip Model) is crucial during final tables. When someone at the table is extremely short-stacked and you are second or third in chips you should look to play more defensively. If you are facing a raise from the chip leader, you should play more passively with hands like Ace-King, which you would typically choose to 3-bet with. You want to avoid busting before the shortest stack at the table so your strategy needs to adapt accordingly.

He calls with only 20,000 chips remaining, and they head to the flop three-way.
Flop – Th 7d 5d:The ten-high, two-diamond board misses everyone, and Little remains ahead with Big Slick. All three poker professionals check, and they head to the turn.
Turn – Qd:The Q of diamonds on the turn doesn’t improve Davies, who checks with ace-high. Zaki, who didn’t hit a pair or pick up a backdoor straight draw, decides not to put in a delayed continuation bet as he follows suit with another check. Little now has a gutshot straight draw and a king-high backdoor flush draw, as well as still having the best hand with ace-king high. Preflop:In the very first hand of heads-up play in this Triton turbo bounty poker tournament, Brian Kim calls from the small blind with T4o. Jonathan Jaffe checks from the big blind with Q6o, and they both head to the flop.
Flop – Kd 6s 2s:Jaffe flops best with second pair on the king-high two-spade board. He checks, and Kim fires out a bet of 200,000 with no pair or draw. Jaffe calls to see the turn.
Turn – 3d:The 3 of diamonds on the turn brings the appearance of a second flush draw. Jaffe checks once more with his pair of sixes. Kim, having picked up a backdoor gutshot straight draw, decides to fire a second barrel of 700,000. Jaffe puts in another call, and they head to the river.
River – As:The As on the river completes the front door flush and results in another overcard for Jaffe, whose pair of sixes are now third pair on the board. After he checks, Kim announces all-in for 2,425,000. If Jaffe calls, he would take home his first Triton Poker title and the $500,000 that goes with it. The rounds increased in the amount of coins that were offered, until the fourth ‘mystery’ round, where no-one knew how many coins were on offer. The team with the least Game of Gold coins at the end of all four Sit & Go’s would be eliminated.
The final six players competed in a winner-take-all format Sit & Go (SNG). This was unique as it meant there was no Independent Chip Model (ICM) pressure on any of the poker players.

Flop – As Kh Kc:Cates doesn’t know it yet, but his trips are dominated on this board by Holz, who holds a higher kicker. Cates checks to the preflop aggressor Holz, who decides not to continuation bet and checks it back to head to the turn.
Turn – 6s:The 6 of spades on the turn introduces a backdoor flush draw. Cates bets 270,000 with his trip kings. Holz decides to just call with his trips, and they head to the river.
River – Tc:The ten on the river brings in the broadway straight possibility. Cates didn’t improve to a full house and will lose this pot if it goes to showdown. He bets 780,000 into Holz. How will the German professional poker player respond to this big bet? Will he fold, call, or raise to put Jungleman to the test for all of his remaining chips?

When deciding to raise from out of position against limpers, it’s advised to have a linear range. A linear range is one that contains strong, medium-strength and weak hands. It is also often referred to as a merged or condensed range. This means raising strong hands and those that could connect well with the flop, like broadways and suited connectors. Since opponents in position are likely to call, choosing hands that will have good board coverage is important to keep your range balanced.

After Raymond checks, Nik Airball fires out a continuation bet for $6,000 with his gutshot straight draw. Pepe calls with his second pair before Raymond correctly throws his cards into the muck, and they now head to the turn heads-up.
Turn – 3h:The 3 of hearts on the turn doesn’t bring in the flush or any straight draws. It also does not improve Nik Airball’s poker hand, but that doesn’t slow him down as he keeps up the aggression and fires an overbet of $30,000. The turn does not change Pepe’s pair of queens either, but his intuition is correct as he throws out the call to see a river card.
River – 4s:The river is the 4 of spades, bringing in the front door flush. Nik Airball totally whiffs his gutshot straight and is left with just ten-high and a flush blocker. He isn’t going to give up; instead, he announces all in for the rest of Pepe’s $146,875, another massive overbet compared to the size of the pot. Pepe agonizes over this tough decision with just second pair against a hyper aggressive poker player. What does he eventually do? River – 4s:The 4 of spades on the river is the best possible card for Mars. Not only does it give him the nuts it also completes a disguised backdoor straight for Nik Airball. Daniel Negreanu took on the challenger Eric Persson in the 4th edition of the High Stakes Duel hosted by PokerGO in the studio in Las Vegas. Both players put up $50,000 with the winner earning themselves an impressive $100,000!
Jonathan agrees with Persson’s large bet size on the turn when he turns the flush draw after Negreanu has now checked twice after his aggression preflop.Jonathan talks about how you should consider your bet size depending on what hands you are trying to make fold and what you think is the size that your opponent will fold those hands. Persson correctly reads that Negrean has a jack in this hand so he needs to bet big enough that is too much for Negreanu to call.
Persson does a fantastic job at confusing Negreanu on the river by calling out his exact hand and telling him that he has to call. This ultimately makes Negreanu fold the winning hand!
This poker hand took place during a high stakes poker showdown in the PokerGO studio as part of their High Stakes Duel Series. This was their 4th edition and saw Daniel Negreanu face off against the new high stakes figure and multiple business owner Eric Persson. The hand starts with Persson limping from the button with 43dd and Negreanu opting to raise to 3.3x to which Persson calls. Both players started this hand over 150bb effective. The flop brings the Ah Jd 7c which gives Negreanu middle pair and a back door straight draw. Persson has a very weak backdoor flush and straight draw. Both players opt to check. The turn is the 7d and Persson decides to use a pot sized bet of 2,000 after Negreanu checks once more. Negreanu calls. The river is another 7 as it lands the 7s. Negreanu checks his full house and Persson attempts to bluff with an almost pot sized bet. Persson does some excellent speech play and confuses Negreanu so much that he folds the winning poker hand!

Jaman ‘The Drawing Dead’ Burton is one of my favorite poker vloggers and in this hand from the Bellagio Poker room in Las Vegas he decides to get completely out of line as he decides to try to bluff his opponent with just 5-high! Both Jonathan and Jaman give their advice on how they manage to pull off successful bluffs and they both have very different techniques, which is your favorite?
On flops that do not have very obvious draws you have to try and find draws that still have good equity. A gutshot and a backdoor flush draw is a perfect candidate to use as part of your bluffing range which is exactly what Jaman does in this hand on the flop after the pot is limped preflop and there has been no aggressive action so far.
It is important that during a poker hand you are trying to narrow your opponent’s range of hands. Jaman received some information preflop as the small blind nor the straddle decided to raise which means they are less likely to have an ace in their range.
When you are bluffing and you pick up equity on the turn you should generally continue to barrel, especially if the turn card could potentially help your range more than your opponent’s.

This high stakes poker heads up match between Matt Berkey and Nik Airball has taken the poker world by storm. There are not many feuds in the poker community that end up in a heads up match but these two have decided to put their money where their mouth is and are battling it out at The Resorts World Poker Room in Las Vegas.
After three days of play the heads up match is extremely close with Solve4Why’s Matt Berkey winning just over $30,000. The two are due to play for 100 hours in total and are now about 20% of the way through the match.
The terms for the heads up match are as follows:
– $200/$400 (400) at Resorts World in Las Vegas– $100,000 min, no max– 3 sessions each week with 6.5hrs per session– The match will last 100 hours– Either player can quit if they end up down more than $1,000,000– $10,000 penalty for a missed session or quitting early
This poker hand was played at The Resorts World private poker room in Las Vegas. They are playing over $270,000 deep at $200/$400. Matt Berkey raises on the button to $1,000 with 66 and Nik Airball decides to 3bet to $5,000 with QJhh and Matt Berkey defends. The flop comes K63xcc and Airball continues his aggression with a 33% bet on the flop to which Berkey calls. The turn is the Ad and Airball decides to size up using a pot sized bet on the turn. This does not deter Berkey who decides to continue by calling. The river is a beautiful card for Airball as it comes the Ts which gives him the stone cold nuts. Airball decides to use an extremely polarizing bet size as he shoves for 5x pot! Berkey cannot find the fold and calls off his stack with his set and loses the $550,000 pot!

The action begins with Pollak setting the trap by just calling rather than raising. Cigliuti then decides to raise to $110 with pocket tens. When Eubank JR. looks down at pocket kings he decides to 3-bet to $420. Pollak then comes over the top with a 4-bet to $2,000, and Cigliuti folds. Whilst Eubank JR. is deciding on his next action Pollak decides to turn over both of his cards, revealing pocket aces. After a 40-second pause, Eubank JR. reveals his kings and decides to fold.
The players decide to rabbit hunt twice to see who would have won the hand had they managed to get all of the chips into the middle. On the first board, we see the 5d Th 2h Qs 2c, which is a blank for both players but Cigliuti would have won with pocket tens. On the second board, however, we see the 8s Kh 3c 3d 4c and Eubank JR. would have flopped a set of kings!

Rampage Poker has recently been on a downswing but that all changed in this poker stream at the Hustler Casino Live as Rampage booked his biggest ever cash game win to date – over $500,000 in a single session!
Most of his profit came from the Hustler Casino Live regular Nik Airball. These two poker players battled in large pots all night with Rampage getting the best of Nik for most of them. Nik lost over $700,000 in that particular game. In this particular poker hand Nik cannot believe what Rampage Poker does and in less than 3 seconds too! It put him on complete mega tilt after this $312,900 pot and Nik Airball went on to lose over $750,000 at the poker table on the live stream.
In this poker hand I look at a crazy hero call that Rampage made against Nik. Rampage also known as Ethan Yau would have known that Nik was tilted at this point in the game which would have been a factor he considered when deciding to make a $110,000 call on the river.

PokerGO’s recent Cash Of The Titans was filled with crazy action and huge pots. It was no surprise that they broke the record for the biggest pot in American TV poker history when Eric Persson clashed horns with long time poker professional Patrik Antonius!
This version of No Gamble, No Future was called “Cash Of The Titans”. Blinds started at $500/$500 and increased every three hours. Players also posted $100,000 on the side, and the biggest winner at the end of Day 3 of play was awarded a $600,000 bonus.
This poker hand happens during the third and final day of the show so the players have been playing with each other consistently for about 14 hours and have built up a lot of history together especially from playing the stand up game where every player stands and you can only sit down when you win a poker hand (you must show the table your winning hand).
This poker hand starts with Persson in the hijack who raises to $7,000. Rob Yong calls on the button before Patrik Antonius decides to 3-bet to $30,000. Both Eric and Rob call. The flop gives Eric and Antonius a flush draw which is where the fireworks happen. Antonius continues his story with a slightly under half pot bet. Persson decides to take the aggressive line and raises to $140,000. This forces Yong to fold and Antonius decides to click it back to $250,000 and Persson calls. On the turn Antonius decides to bet about 25% pot. Persson’s response is to rip his entire stack in the middle for $692,000! Antonius doesn’t take too much time before calling and leaves Persson drawing dead in the biggest ever pot in American TV history!

Garrett Adelstein is a regular in the high stakes cash games on Hustler Casino Live. Today his opponent is a newcomer to the show who is just named as Tim and he has a mystery poker hand!
Jonathan talks about what range of hands like to re-raise preflop when playing deep stacked out of position; decent suited connectors fall in this category which is exactly the hand that Garrett ‘Gman’ Adelstein has in this poker hand.
If you are only using the strongest hands to re-raise with preflop then you do not have a decent board coverage when the flop contains low cards. As you get deeper stacked you will want to be using a wider range of hands to 3-bet with.

Popular poker vlogger Brad Owen finds himself in a dream spot in the Bellagio poker room whilst playing $5/$10 as he flops a flush against a splashy recreational poker player. Can he find a way to get max value?
Jonathan discusses what you should think about when deciding to isolate pre-flop against players that like to limp. He also discusses that a Game Theory Optimal (GTO) approach prefers to use a small bet size on monotone flops (flops that are all one suit). When players use a larger bet size you should be much tighter in the range that you decide to call and continue with.
Jonathan talks about a mistake that a lot of poker players make which is attempting to put their opponent’s on a very specific hand rather than a range of hands. Don’t be this type of poker player!
The hand starts with a limp from the under the gun recreational player. Brad Owen decides to raise on the button to isolate his opponent with a speculative 85hh. The big blind cold calls and under the gun decides to call as well. The flop is one that we dream of as it comes KQT all hearts giving Brad a flopped flush. Brad continues using a large bet size and the recreational player calls. The turn is a brick 2d and Brad continues using a large size which the recreational poker player calls. The river is a clean 7s and Brad shoves all in for a pot sized bet. Will he get maximum value from the recreational?

In this weekly poker hand Jonathan reviews a spot that Jaman ‘The Drawing Dead’ Burton found himself in at the Bellagio poker room in Las Vegas whilst playing a $5/$10/$20 cash game.
Remember that when you are playing in a game that has a straddle that the stack sizes in big blinds are essentially divided in half. Make sure that you adjust your ranges and poker strategy accordingly!
When you are looking to isolate preflop with a raise you should look to use a larger size when you are out of position. This will hurt the implied odds of many suited connectors as the stack to pot ratio will decrease which helps give you a small advantage as you are playing out of position.
Jonathan discusses the questions you should be asking yourself when deciding on the optimal bet size in any given situation at the poker table. An exploitative strategy against recreational poker players is to size up with your value hands as they will tend to continue with the exact same range regardless of bet size (within reason!)
Jaman Burton faces a raise on the flop after he has isolated preflop with pocket queens. Both Jaman and Jonathan discuss what range of poker hands would potentially be doing this. Jonathan suggests that sets should not be raising as they are unlikely to be outdrawn on this board considering Jaman’s raise preflop which narrows his range to strong overcards and overpairs.
Jonathan’s read on the turn is that Jaman’s opponent is trying to look as strong as he can by jamming all in very quickly after Jaman decides to check. Most of the time when opponents are doing this Jonathan believes that they are bluffing!

Jonathan is joined by PokerCoaching coach JWIN to discuss a hand that he played at the Lodge Poker Club in Austin, Texas.
They discuss the interesting choice from the small blind to just flat call pre-flop. Generally in cash games most players will opt for a 3-bet or fold strategy from the small blind. By the small blind just calling pre-flop it gives a lot of information as to the range of hands that they might have.
This poker hand starts with a very standard raise from JWIN with AQo and a call from the small blind with KTo. On the flop the small blind checks and JWIN continuation bets with top pair for around half pot. On the turn JWIN decides to size up as a flush draw is now available and the opponent could also still have a worse ace. The river brings in the backdoor flush and some straight combinations and JWIN’s opponent decides to lead for a pot sized bet. JWIN has the nut flush blocker and also a straight blocker and opts to turn his top pair into a bluff and uses an extremely large raise size. Will his opponent sniff out the bluff and call with two pair?

Jonathan has always said that you should find the poker table that looks the most fun and splashy. Doug ‘WCGRider’ Polk has found exactly that as he battles against a poker player that may have drank a few too many cocktails! This poker hand took place at the Lodge Poker Club in Austin, Texas. Doug Polk is now a part owner of the club alongside popular poker vloggers Brad Owen & Andrew Neeme.
What makes this poker hand so entertaining is how Adam is constantly talking which appears to be confusing Doug and clouding his judgment on whether to call or fold on the river.
Jonathan talks about how you should often call on flops when you are getting incredible pot odds and you have a hand that has backdoor equity and you are playing in position. Players will fold too often and not factor the bet size that they are facing into their decision!
Doug only has ace high on the river but he knows that something doesn’t quite feel right as he clearly goes back and forth on his decision. Will he ultimately make the correct decision to call against this crazy bluff from Adam?

Rising poker star Sashimi takes on established TikTok super star Tommy Unold in this weekly poker hand. The hand has everything as a recipe for disaster as both players have a full house on the turn.
This poker hand took place on Max Pain Monday which is a show hosted by Hustler Casino Live. It encourages showing bluffs, slow rolls, running all-ins only 1 time and generally trying to cause as much pain to your opponent as possible. Is this the worst angle & slow roll in the same poker hand? Decide for yourself!
The hand starts with Tommy limping in early position. Sashimi in the next seat decides to raise to isolate him and Tommy calls. The flop already spells disaster for Tommy as he flops trip queens but is up against Sashimi’s flopped full house. Things go from bad to worse when Tommy turns his own full house which is where this poker hand starts to fall off the rails. Sashimi throws her hand across the betting line and then retrieves it as she apologizes. Tommy cannot find the fold button by the river and is noticeably distraught at this brutal bad beat. What makes this poker hand even more brutal is that Sashimi decides to slow roll him by only showing her queen first before delivering the finishing blow and revealing the jack that is just behind it!
