From ongoing harassment at work to the daunting task of searching for a new job, I've been grappling with feelings of inadequacy. As I reflect on this difficult time in my life, I'm reminded that this episode also marks the finale of season two. I will be taking the summer off and will return in the fall. The day has finally come where I am announcing to the world or at least to the amazing people who listen to my pod that I have decided to become a mom and I am doing it on my own! This was not an easy decision to make and I will give you the full break down of everything that went into making this decision plus so much more! Today, I am joined by my beautiful cousin, who has lived in Hawaii for 10 years, and we are talking about all things related to the islands! I listened to a podcast from an influencer couple and they talked about how when they lived in Hawaii, they had a lot of difficulties. I didn't know that there was tension between the native people of Hawaii, influencers, tourist and people from the mainland. I wanted to be educated and I thought this would be a great way to do it. I am not afraid of the dark or the taboo. I want to talk about this stuff to normalize it so people don't have to feel afraid or ashamed to share what they have gone through in life. If you have experience of being in a Charismatic church then I am sure you know exactly what I am talking about. This experience has also lead me to where I am today which is a really happy place and is one of the many reason why I left Christianity. For that, I am really thankful! So, here is my story. There was a man at church who has "the gift of prophesy" and one day he told me that God was calling me to move out of state. I believed him with no questions asked. All I can say is that I wanted to be obedient, because you know, the church teaches "obedience equals blessings" and I wanted the "blessings" that were promised to me. So, I quite my job, donated my things, packed up my car and by some miracle, I did NOT end up moving. Thank God that I was brought to my senses and started to use logic instead of over spiritualizing everything. But hey, I didn't know any better and I thought I was doing what I was SUPPOSED to do. Now that I have learned my lesson, I can say that I WILL NEVER make this mistake again. I hope you enjoy my story and if you have made the same mistake as me, know that it is alright. After doing some research a lot of intelligent people fall for the trap of the over spiritualized especially after going through a tragedy. Know that we are in this together! In 2018, my boyfriend of nine years broke up with me and out of an act of desperation, I gave my life to Jesus, which wasn't the best decision to make. For four years, I was pretending to me someone I am not all because I made a decision with my feelings instead of my logic. This decision has changed the course of my life forever. I share all of the details like why I became a Christian, my experience within the church, the six lessons that I learned from this act of desperation, why I left Christianity and whether or not I regret the decision that I made. This is my desperation story and I hope that it helps you to not make the same mistake as me. A few weeks ago I turned the big 3-4! Holy cow, I can't believe that I am already in my mid-thirties, where did the time go? It feels like I just turned 30 yesterday. Life after isolation can be scary. At least for me it was. Listen how I unknowingly put myself into a season of isolation, how I was overcome with panic thinking that I was going to be alone forever and the steps that I took to re-enter the world. Also, in this season, I learned about self love, boundary setting and how to say NO! This was the hardest and most transformative 18 months of my life and I wouldn't be the women I am today without it, so for that, I am grateful! It is crazy how something so awful can be so good in the end. If you have been in a season of isolation know that you are not alone and that we are in this together! Hey! What’s up and welcome to A Conversation with Jenna. I’m Jenna and I am really glad that you have joined me here today. I wanted to start this podcast because I needed a place to brain dump. You know, a place where I can share ALL of my thoughts and opinions, because I have a lot of them, and use my gift of communication to help others. This is also my personal journal where I will be sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly of my life with the hopes that it will help you in yours. A little disclaimer that you will hear in every episode is this: what I am about to share with you are my personal thoughts, opinions and experiences. I am not an expert nor will everything that I say be factual. Please do your own research and think for yourself.
I am a strong believer in free thinking and freedom of speech. I want this to be a space where I feel safe to ask hard questions, brainstorm even the most impossible of ideas, and discuss topics that might be considered taboo. No topic is off limits because I am not afraid of the dark. For me, it is all about the one. If I can make a difference in one person’s life, then I know that I have been a good steward over the gift that I have been given.
