Leave the Pile Higher, Grow Your Legacy: Recent Episodes

Bryan T. Savage

Everything I knew about building a legacy was wrong. I didn’t have to be rich to build one; going bankrupt doesn’t disqualify me; and I can break the script of how I’m supposed to behave as a black man and still be remembered fondly. Tune in as cats like you and I get real about how we’re not leaving this life without being an unforgettable blessing to others.

On January 1, 2026, I introduced Legacy Blueprint on Leave the Pile Higher with Part One: The Weight We Carry—a conversation about the pressures, expectations, responsibilities, and silent battles many of us face as Black men.

The discussion was so honest, so powerful, and so necessary that there was no way we could fit it all into a single episode.

In Part Two: The Work We Do, James Worthy, Khalid Scott, Ferris De, and I continue our conversation as we shift our focus from the weight we carry to the work that we do everyday.

Together, we explore what legacy means in this season of life, how fatherhood shapes our decisions, the role faith plays in our journey, and how to keep showing up when life lands a few body blows and uppercuts we never saw coming.

More than anything, this conversation is a reminder that none of us were meant to do this alone. We need brothers who will encourage us, challenge us, pray for us, and walk alongside us. Brothers who remind us to stay the course, keep building, and remain faithful—even when progress feels slow.

This episode isn't about having all the answers.

It's about four brothers choosing honesty over image, vulnerability over silence, and purpose over pride. It's about leadership, healing, responsibility, and the daily work required to build something that lasts.

If you've ever questioned whether you're doing enough, carrying too much, or making a difference, this conversation is for you.

Because legacy isn't built in a day.

It's built one decision.

One sacrifice.

One conversation.

One act of faith.

One rep at a time.

The weight is real.

The work is necessary.

And none of us were meant to do it alone.

Let's Build.

Panel Participants

James Worthy — Fatherhood advocate, coach, speaker, and business consultant

Khalid Scott — Psychotherapist, author, life coach, and speaker

Ferris Dean — Financial planner and insurance professional

When was the last time you had a conversation that made you think deeper than you planned to?

In this episode, I sit down with my frat brother, Saif Madar — a man I’ve known for over two decades. Same yard. Different eras. Real brotherhood.

Saif was born in Guyana and raised in the Bronx. Engineer by training. MBA in finance. A numbers guy. Analytical. Measured. Strategic.

And if you ask him, he’ll tell you he’s not the type to sit around opening up or getting lost in deep reflection.

But here’s the thing — many of us raised in households where strength was non-negotiable weren’t taught to process out loud. We were taught to handle it. To perform. To push through. To keep emotion tight and responsibility high.

In many of our communities, vulnerability wasn’t modeled, so it wasn’t the first language we learned. Carrying it without complaint was the expectation. Reflection wasn’t always encouraged. Providing was. Producing was. Protecting was.

So slowing down to reflect? To unpack? To say what’s really going on inside?

That’s something most of us learn later — if we learn it at all.

What makes this conversation different is the space. The trust. The shared fraternal bond that allows two men — raised in different homes but shaped by parallel expectations, similar pressures expressed through slightly different cultural tones — to slow down and speak more openly than we were taught to growing up.

And he did.

This episode moves through identity, responsibility, growth, brotherhood, leadership, and fatherhood — with humor, honesty, and moments that even caught him off guard.

There’s laughter.
There’s reflection.
There’s proof that when trust is present, depth isn’t forced — it shows up on its own. And for men who’ve spent much of their lives carrying responsibility quietly, that kind of space is rare.

If you’ve ever been taught to “just handle it”…
If you’ve ever carried quiet pressure without calling it pressure…
If you’ve ever wondered what it looks like when strong men talk differently…

Tap in.

This one’s layered.

Some relationships don’t fade with time—they just pause.
And when they resume, they remind you who you were and who you’re becoming.

In this episode, I sit down with Cedric Nelson, a brother I’ve known for over four decades. We became friends and teammates in high school, went on to play college ball in different places, and somehow stayed connected through the noise of life—a friendship that always picked up right where it left off, even after years without talking.

This isn’t a story about dramatic moments or viral highlights. It’s about something rarer: consistency. Character. This is a conversation about growth, integrity, fatherhood, and the quiet work of building something that lasts. We talk about choosing character over convenience, building systems instead of chasing quick wins, and what it means to still be standing, still growing, and still accountable after time has done its work—especially when you’re thinking beyond yourself and the legacy you’re building.

It’s a conversation about time—how it shapes us, tests our relationships, and clarifies what actually matters. It’s for anyone who’s lived long enough to know the real test isn’t how you start, but how you sustain.

No hype.
No shortcuts.
Just perspective, brotherhood, and the long game.

What happens when four Black men—strangers to one another, yet united by shared experiences—come together for an honest conversation about the emotional weight they've carried for years?

This episode launches Legacy Blueprint, a new panel series within Leave the Pile Higher. Each Blueprint brings together brothers for authentic conversations about leadership, healing, fatherhood, purpose, and the legacy we're building. Some conversations unfold in a single episode; others continue across multiple parts to fully explore the topic.

In Part One: The Weight We Carry, I sit down with three remarkable men for an unfiltered dialogue about manhood, mental health, fatherhood, leadership, and the emotional burdens we've often learned to carry in silence.

Although the panelists are meeting one another for the first time, I know each of them personally. That familiarity creates space for a conversation that quickly becomes honest, emotional, and uplifting. Together, we laugh, reflect, challenge one another, and speak openly about the lessons we've learned, the growth we've experienced, and the road we're still walking as we strive to become better husbands, fathers, leaders, and brothers.

This conversation isn't about having all the answers. It's about naming the weight, breaking the silence, and reminding one another that we don't have to carry everything alone.

Part Two — The Work We Do continues the conversation, shifting the focus from naming the weight to the work of leading, healing, serving, and showing up for the people who depend on us.

Panel Participants

James Worthy — Fatherhood advocate, coach, speaker, and business consultant.

Khalid B. Scott — Psychotherapist, author, life coach, and speaker.

Ferris Dean — Financial planner and insurance professional.

Topics Covered

  • Generational legacy and emotional inheritance
  • The pressure to "keep it together" as Black men

  • Fatherhood, marriage, and showing up while carrying weight
  • Depression, burnout, and suicide awareness
  • Brotherhood, healing, and learning how to refill your cup

What does it mean to grow as a man when the blueprint wasn’t handed to you?

Today is December 4th — the day my father was born, my fraternity’s Founders Day, and the day this podcast turns three years old. In this special reflection I speak about the weight men carry, the healing I’m walking through as a father, and the stretching that marriage continues to bring. I open up about a moment that shaped me, the lessons I’m still learning, and the lifelong work of becoming the man God is calling me to be.

This podcast has always been about honoring my father and building legacy — but it’s also a space for us to grow out loud, especially for men of color who didn’t grow up with the language, the room, or the safety to feel, talk, or process. So part of my work here is opening the door for all men — but especially my brothers — to listen, lean in, and know you’re not walking this journey alone.

This episode also sets the stage for the upcoming Legacy Blueprint series — real, candid conversations with men who are navigating the same tension of becoming. Today is the reflection. Blueprint is the continuation. Stay locked in.

This isn’t a typical episode — it’s personal. It’s honest. It’s a moment to honor my father's life, acknowledge my growth, and remind every man listening: wherever you are on the journey, don’t stop. Someone’s counting on the man you’re becoming.

If this speaks to you, share it with your circle — you never know who might need a moment like this to get the strength or boost to keep going.

Growth doesn’t happen when life is easy — it happens when you face fears and step out of your comfort zone. Legacy doesn’t start with money — it starts with mindset. So what does it really take to unlearn what’s been passed down, heal what’s been ignored, and build something that actually lasts?

That’s where Financial Advisor Ferris Dean comes in.
In this episode, we talk about what real growth looks like — not the picture-perfect kind, but the kind that stretches you. The kind that forces you to slow down, look in the mirror, and deal with what’s real.

We dig into therapy, self-care, and the things many of us never heard growing up — like how to talk about money, how to teach our kids to manage it, and why building wealth isn’t about the bag… it’s about building freedom.

Ferris also opens up about life after loss, fatherhood, and how those moments shaped the man he’s becoming. And somewhere in this conversation, you’ll hear the story that made him look at money differently — and for both the gem of wisdom and the laugh it brings, trust me, it’s one you’ll want to lean in for.

This is real talk about growth, mindset, and legacy — the kind that reminds you that purpose starts on the inside.

Am I the only one? Have you ever said “yes” when you really meant “maybe” — or agreed to something you knew wasn’t yours to carry?

Oh, so it’s not just me.

Yeah, saying yes out of habit, out of guilt, or just wanting to be the one people can count on — until those yeses started costing me peace, purpose, and alignment. I found myself overextended, overcommitted, and wondering how I got there.

What I’m sharing today isn’t about time management — it’s about truth management. Because every time we say yes to the wrong thing, we say no to the thing that actually matters.

I talk about a pattern that kept showing up in my life and the moment I had to stop pretending it was harmless. Saying yes to things God never co-signed or called me to do wasn’t service — it was self-made stress. In fact, it was also a quiet form of dishonesty.

There was a moment that made me stop and really look in the mirror — a moment that reminded me that integrity starts when your no stays no, your yes stays yes, and both come from the right place.

This one’s for the people-pleasers, the over-doers, the “I got it” folks carrying more than they were ever meant to. Because legacy isn’t built on convenience — it’s built on consistency, obedience, and integrity.

Listen now — and when it hits, don’t keep it to yourself.

Ever been in a season where everything went quiet—your confidence, your creativity, even your peace?

It’s been six months since I dropped a new episode, and this one isn’t just about being back—it’s about what happens when the vision goes quiet but doesn’t die.

In this episode, I talk about the silence between seasons—how life, responsibility, and doubt can cloud your confidence—and how God used that stillness to reset my focus.
I share the truths that brought me back, what I’ve learned through the pause, and why legacy is still mine (and yours) to build.

If you’ve ever stepped away from your purpose, questioned your voice, or wondered if it’s too late to start again, this one’s for you.

Key themes: Legacy • Faith • Comeback • Obedience • Purpose

“Because legacy? It ain’t always loud. Sometimes it gets interrupted. Sometimes it gets paused. But it never gets canceled.”

What if everything you thought was success… still left you empty?

King Solomon—richer and wiser than anyone alive—looked at everything he built and said: “Meaningless… all of it.”

That line hits even harder today—because this episode goes live on my birthday, and I’ve been thinking deeply about what really matters. Not just what we grind for—but what we build that will actually last.

In a world chasing fast wins and constant validation, I’m reflecting on two stories that brought it all home for me:

My son’s indoor track season—where doubt met determination

A real-time journey with three of my newest business partners—where we’re grinding, growing, and finally stepping into the breakthrough we believed in from day one

We’re unpacking:

  • Progress over placement
  • Why real success takes foundation—not just speed
  • And how legacy is built in the quiet work, not the loud wins

This isn’t just another motivational episode. It’s a reflection. A reminder.
And a charge to build something that will outlast the hype.

We talk mindset, consistency, confidence—and what legacy really looks like when you’re building it brick by brick.

Whether you’re deep in the grind, stuck in the middle, or just starting something new—this one’s for you.

What happens when life forces you to rewrite your financial story?

For Shakira "Sam the Agent" Moran, financial empowerment wasn’t just a career choice—it was survival. As a young single mom, she found herself drowning in overdraft fees after an unexpected auto-pay mishap. A tearful call to the bank resulted in a rare moment of mercy, but it also sparked a vow: never again. That moment set her on a path to learn everything she could about money, wealth-building, and breaking the cycle of financial instability—especially for single moms like her.

Her journey didn’t stop there. Diagnosed with MS in her mid-20s, Sam suddenly faced an even harsher reality: she had no life insurance. The fear of what would happen to her daughter if something happened to her ignited her mission to educate others in the Black and Brown community about financial planning, wealth-building, and the security that life insurance can provide.

But her story isn’t just about overcoming—it’s about paying it forward.

Sam is dedicated to empowering underserved communities in the NY metro area and beyond, through free financial workshops, school-based programs, and community initiatives. She believes that financial literacy isn’t just about numbers—it’s about shifting mindsets, breaking cycles, and creating opportunities for future generations.

Because legacy isn’t just what you leave—it’s how you lead.

In this episode, we dive into:

  • Truths about life insurance—debunking myths in our community
  • The power of starting where you are—why doing a little of something is always better than doing a lot of nothing
  • Breaking financial barriers—the mindset shift from survival mode to wealth-building and financial security
  • Lessons from her own journey—how a moment of financial hardship and an attempt to discourage her from investing only fueled her determination to self-educate and take control
  • How Sam is paying it forward—offering free financial workshops, school-based programs, and real-world tools to help families build a legacy

This conversation is for anyone who’s ever felt financially stuck, doubted their ability to build wealth, or believed the misconception that money moves are only for the rich. The key? Start where you are, use what you have, and stay consistent.

Listen now and take control of your financial future - start building, breaking barriers, and leaving the pile higher!

Seven years. That’s how long it’s been since my world shifted—since my father took his last breath in his sleep, leaving behind a legacy that still speaks to me every single day. Some days, I laugh. Other days, I feel the weight of his absence. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that in death, there are things that come to life.

In this episode, I take you back to that weekend—the last call I didn’t return, the Sunday morning news that changed everything, and the way my father’s words, lessons, and presence have echoed through my life ever since. More than just a reflection on loss, this is a conversation about mindset, faith, and legacy-building in the world we live in today.

We’re in a time where distractions and negativity are everywhere, but our responsibility remains the same: to protect our peace, lead with purpose, and build something greater than ourselves. Whether you’re a father, a son, a leader in your community, or a brother walking your own path, this episode is for you.

Let’s talk about what it means to rise above, to stay rooted in faith, and to commit to a future that honors those who came before us while creating space for those who will come after.

Listen in. Reflect. And then ask yourself—what legacy are you building?

What’s it like to sit down with your best friend of 40 years for a podcast interview? It’s an incredible experience filled with laughs, life lessons, and heartfelt reflections. But the real challenge? Editing over two hours of raw, inspiring conversation into one unforgettable episode—LOL.

DaRon Wood’s story is one of resilience, faith, and transformation. From earning the rare distinction of U.S. Army Basic Training Honor Grad to receiving the Hyattsville Civilian Merit Award after heroically stopping a carjacking attempt, DaRon has faced life’s challenges with courage and conviction. That carjacking moment was a turning point—he quit smoking, started making healthier choices, and began aligning his life with a deeper purpose.

But DaRon’s journey hasn’t been without struggles. He shares a deeply vulnerable moment during a bitter divorce and custody battle—a rainy night when he hit rock bottom. Consumed by pain and despair, he just wanted it all to end. Driving at a high speed, he heard two voices—one said, “You’re defeated, let it go,” and the other immediately interjecting whispered, “My son, that’s not my voice. Collect yourself and go home.” Choosing to listen to God’s voice in that pivotal moment changed everything, setting him on a path of healing, redemption, and hope.

As a single father, DaRon raised his nonverbal son with autism, becoming his son’s biggest advocate and celebrating milestones like learning to type to communicate. Now remarried and blessed with a blended family of five children, DaRon shares how faith, family, and friendship have anchored him through life’s storms. Why do some people achieve unstoppable momentum while others struggle to even get started? Is it talent, luck, or something more intentional?

Welcome to 2025! In this first episode of the new year, we’re not just talking about habits that stick or resolutions that fade—we’re uncovering what makes habits truly transformative. This is about building momentum that propels you forward and creating a legacy that lasts.

Join me as I share personal stories of triumph and lessons learned, including how I lost over 75 pounds and maintained a healthier lifestyle, my streak of hitting business bonuses for over two years straight, and the pivotal role accountability partners played in my journey.

For far too long, Black men have been expected to shoulder immense pressures from both society and our communities, often in silence. When it comes to mental health, this silence has devastating consequences. Suicide ranks as the third leading cause of death among Black men aged 15-24, and rates are climbing among middle-aged men—a sobering reminder of the challenges faced during this critical life stage.

This rise is fueled by societal and cultural pressures, untreated mental health challenges, and stigma around seeking help. For many, these struggles go unspoken, leading to a dangerous intersection of stress, grief, and isolation. The holiday season, while joyful for some, often magnifies these feelings, pushing those already vulnerable closer to the edge.

In this episode, I’m honored to welcome back my fraternity brother, Khalid Scott. Khalid brings over 27 years of experience in social work and mental health services, specializing in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, trauma-informed care, and substance abuse counseling. He is a passionate advocate for mental health awareness in the Black community and the perfect voice for this critical conversation.

Together, we unpack the unique pressures Black men face, particularly during the holiday season, and discuss the importance of seeking help, encouraging one another, and utilizing the resources available. This episode isn’t just for Black men—it’s for anyone who wants to understand, support, or start their own journey toward mental wellness. Don’t suffer in silence. Let’s break the stigma, change the narrative, and leave a legacy of strength and healing.

Episode Highlights:

  • The cultural and societal pressures impacting Black men’s mental health
  • The rising suicide rates among Black men
  • The effects of the holiday season on mental health and the importance of addressing these challenges
  • Encouragement for men to seek help, support each other, and utilize available mental health resources
  • Breaking the stigma around mental health and fostering open, supportive conversations

Two years. Two years of resilience, purpose, and building something greater than ourselves. In this milestone episode of Leave the Pile Higher, Grow Your Legacy, we celebrate the journey—through the highs, the lows, and the six-month silence that nearly derailed it all.

This celebration is deeply personal. Today would have been my dad’s 77th birthday, and every step of this podcast has been done in honor of him. My father, Ralph William Savage III, embodied joy, resilience, and love. Losing him left a hole in my heart, but every episode I publish is my way of keeping his legacy alive. It’s a journey that brings me to tears with each milestone we reach.

Legacy isn’t built in a straight line. It’s forged in the messy, imperfect moments when we choose not to quit. In this episode, I reflect on what it took to reach this milestone and draw inspiration from the lives of Reginald F. Lewis, Eric Thomas, and Inky Johnson—three men whose resilience and purpose remind us of the power of legacy and the impact of perseverance.

What’s the legacy you’re building when no one’s watching? Join me as we reflect, celebrate, and look forward to the chapters still unwritten.

Because two years in? We’re just getting started.

What does it really mean to heal from the legacy of broken relationships? Is healing a passive process, something that happens to us over time, or is it an intentional, active choice we make—one that requires courage, resilience, and faith?

In this transformative episode, Charvette Shirk Pitt—founder of M.E.N. (Men Embracing Non-Violence) and author of Healing the Fatherless: Valuing and Validating the Daughter You Have Always Been—shares her deeply personal journey as a fatherless daughter, inviting us to confront our past, break free from generational cycles, and embrace a future of healing and empowerment.

Her book has been praised for its transformative approach, introducing the HEALED framework—Honesty, Eagle-eyed, Adjustability, Limitlessness, Endurance, and Digging through the layers—a step-by-step guide to overcoming trauma and reclaiming self-worth.

But her mission doesn’t stop there. Through her work with M.E.N., Charvette creates safe spaces for male survivors of domestic violence, amplifying voices often left unheard. She is breaking barriers, advocating for healing, and empowering others to reclaim their lives.

Whether you’re seeking healing for yourself, supporting someone you love, or striving to leave a better world for future generations, this episode offers valuable insights, practical tools, and hope. Charvette’s story reminds us that healing isn’t just about moving on—it’s about moving forward with purpose, power, and grace.

Have you ever wondered how someone turns life’s challenges into a powerful legacy? In this episode, I connect with Emmett Burns, an educator and founder of ClaraRuth Homeschool, who’s doing just that. Emmett and I first met years ago on a commuter train, quickly bonding over our shared love of football—we both played in college—and our diehard loyalty to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Beyond our love for the game, we’re both entrepreneurs with a deep passion for uplifting our community and those we encounter.

Emmett shares his inspiring journey from being an IT professional and fitness trainer to following his heart and his family’s legacy. He not only embraced the role of an educator but also took the bold step of opening and establishing a homeschool, named in honor of his two grandmothers. His story is one of dedication, innovation, and heart, shaped by the blessings and challenges of carrying the same name as his late father, Emmett Burns, Jr., a well-known civil rights activist.

But it’s not all serious talk—Emmett’s wife, Vanessa, stepped in as our “technical director” for the day, joining in on some fun and laughter. This episode is filled with personal stories, inspiration, and a bit of humor that you won’t want to miss. Tune in and join us as we dive into Emmett’s powerful vision for legacy-building and personal growth.

For those interested in homeschooling or exploring alternative education, the Clara Ruth Education Institute, founded by Emmett Burns, is a fantastic resource based in Baltimore, Maryland. Feel free to contact them at 443-804-1377 for more information.

Episode Description:

We often think about legacy as the things we leave behind—our titles, accomplishments, and possessions. But what if part of building a legacy includes knowing when to pause, heal, and restore ourselves? In this episode, I share a personal story from my family vacation that opened my eyes to the importance of healing as part of legacy-building.

It all started with some horseshoe crabs washed ashore on the beach in Ocean City. What I thought was just a quiet morning of reflection turned into a powerful lesson about life, legacy, and stepping out of my comfort zone. Along the way, we’ll explore how healing, support, and stepping out in faith all play a role in shaping the legacies we leave behind.

Tune in as we reflect on these key takeaways and consider how even small actions can have lasting impacts.

Show Notes:

  • Introduction: Exploring the other side of legacy—healing and renewal.
  • Family Vacation Story: A special beach trip during the final week of Pray 21 and the encounter with washed-up horseshoe crabs.
  • Key Takeaways:
    • Healing is Active: Legacy-building isn’t just about the grind; it requires making space for healing.
    • Surround Yourself with Support: We need the right people around us to guide, uplift, and help us get back on track.
    • Step Out of Your Comfort Zone: Growth happens when we step out in faith, even when it feels uncomfortable.
  • Reflection on "Lean on Me" by Bill Withers: How the song hit me differently in this season, reminding me that we all need someone to lean on, especially as Black men.
  • Closing: Legacy is shaped by our daily choices, the healing we allow, the support we embrace, and the courage to step beyond what’s familiar.

Credits:

  • This episode references "The Star Thrower" by Loren Eiseley from The Unexpected Universe (1969).
  • Mentioned song: Lean on Me by Bill Withers ©1972 Sussex Records. No lyrics were quoted in this episode.

What does it mean to build a legacy while still overcoming life’s biggest challenges? In this episode, we dive deep with Robbie Cunningham—stage name Robbie Mychals—a Billboard-charting singer, musician, producer, and licensed minister who knows firsthand how to turn pain into purpose.

Robbie’s musical journey began in the church choir at an early age, where his grandmothers saw something special in him. Both, at different times, told Robbie he would one day be a pastor. His response? A light-hearted, "Nooo," as becoming a minister was the last thing he ever saw himself doing.

When asked how long he ran from the call of becoming a minister, Robbie laughed and said, "A long time," which led to some shared laughter during the interview. Though his grandmothers’ words stayed with him, it was ultimately God’s touch on his life that led Robbie to embrace his calling, becoming a licensed minister and blending his faith with his passion for music.

He also opens up about his battle with prostate cancer, the lessons he’s learned from his grandfather and father; and the responsibility of being a ‘girl dad’ while striving to leave a lasting financial legacy for future generations. Robbie’s resilience and dedication have shaped both his career and personal journey, making his story a powerful testament to overcoming adversity.

This conversation is packed with wisdom, heart, and inspiration. Plus, you’ll hear a special preview of his song, "Today," a reflection of the soul and rhythm Robbie pours into every note.

Music and arts are often considered to be a universal language because they have the power to transcend so many barriers, and evoke emotions that are universally felt. The rhythm and melody of music speaks to people and open minds . Similarly, visual arts can communicate and express ideas that are easily recognizable.  When combined with children, in the classroom, it becomes a phenomenal learning experience for everyone.

Ask Mr. Brian Barber. In his twenty years as an educator, not only has he use them in his classroom, he has created a  music & arts curriculum and platform, to educate his students.   But it almost didn't happen.  Brian talks about his dreams of becoming a rapper and the "failures" that fueled his  passion; the people that challenged and believed in him; and the profound impact "Mr. New School" is having on the academic and personal growth of his students.

It has been said: History doesn't just happen; it is made -made by real people who faced real challenges, who had uncertainty about the future, just as we do today. That is why it is important we study the past to understand the present, in order to shape the future.

That is precisely one of the critical endeavors of Epidemiologist Dean Dapo Akinleye. His studies consists of analyzing health outbreaks and different outcomes with human populations. What's unique about Dean is that he has a two-fold approach regarding finding solutions to disparities within disadvantaged communities. Not only does he report findings to his collogues, in order to implement fundamental change, but he also takes personal action, as a community leader.

Listen in as this husband, father, organizational leader, mentor to middle, high school and college students, shares his experiences, of growing up in an immigrant community, and why it's critical for him to help provide direction and opportunities for youth to succeed.

Most people choose their career paths early in life. Typically, once an individual establishes him/herself in an industry there is a tendency to “settle in” and take actions that will help you advance in that field/career; Unless of course, there is a burning desire telling them that their legacy will be lived out in a different capacity.

That is the journey of Mark Michalisin. He always believed deep within he would have a positive impact on people’s lives and be remembered, for the impact he made. However, as a sales and marketing professional in the paper industry,
he did not know how it all would come together (by the way: yes, my first thought was "Dunder Mifflin" as well - smiles) . But he was certain it would not materialize, until there was a change in the direction he was moving. So after 25 years he recently left the paper industry.

Mark shares how his experiences have prepared him for this part of his legacy journey; and how it is an honor and a privilege to wake up every morning, not to go to work, but to live his passion and to build something greater than himself.

Culture is comprised of values, beliefs, and practices that people share in common.  It plays a significant role in one’s life and has the power to shape attitudes, influence behaviors and set expectations.

Today, I chat with Jim Roberson.  He was the first African American to play sports for Bronxville High School (NY) in 1976-77.  We talk about the culture of that environment, its influence on him and the role it has played & continues to play in his life.  Learn how an encounter with a school administrator, on his very first day of school, was such an eye-opening experience. Listen as Jim shares how he embraced what he experienced and how he is reaching back to do the same for others, as he Leaves the Pile Higher & builds something greater than himself.

Jim has lived in the United Kingdom for the past 30+ years and has developed a “lovely accent” (smiles).

This very first episode is released in honor of what would have been my Dad's 75th birthday.  This project is an extension of my dad's "Why" and how the "simple" statement he made back in 1983/84:  "To leave the pile higher, for you and your sister."  Has not only positively impacted his family, but SO many others.

In this episode, I speak from the heart about my dad's legacy and how the intangibles of one's legacy can matter most; and that leaving a legacy is MUCH more than monetary or personal assets.

Happy Heavenly Birthday, Dad!
