In this video, I read out “Deshbhakti ki Polish” – a sharp satirical essay by Harishankar Parsai from his collection Nithalle ki Diary – and then talk about how it still applies to today’s corporate charity and “image polishing.” Parsai was one of Hindi’s greatest satirists, known for exposing corruption, hypocrisy, and hollow nationalism through humour and biting social commentary. The essay follows Kanchan Babu, a wealthy shop‑owner who starts polishing people’s shoes “for the defence of the nation” so he can donate that small income to the National Defence Fund – and, more importantly, escape big donation demands and look like a heroic patriot. Through this, Parsai shows how the rich use patriotism, charity, and public drama as a way to protect their wealth and clean up their public image. In the second half of the video, I connect this old satire to modern examples: food‑delivery apps asking you to “donate ₹1 to feed the poor”, aggressive tipping prompts, corporate “care funds” during crises, and how companies proudly market your generosity instead of using their own profits. Parsai’s essay may reference the India–Pakistan war, but the deeper point about fake patriotism and staged philanthropy feels painfully relevant in 2026 as well. In this video, I talk about Ghachar Ghochar, a brilliant short novella by Vivek Shanbhag, originally written in Kannada and translated into English by Srinath Perur.

The book follows a lower‑middle‑class family in Bangalore that suddenly becomes rich through a spice business, and shows how money quietly tangles their relationships, morals and sense of self “beyond repair.”

I discuss what the strange title “Ghachar Ghochar” means, how the story reflects India’s shift from a closed socialist economy to liberalisation, why the narrator hides in Indian Coffee House, the role of Anita, Chikkappa, the parents, the ants, and what it means to look down on the “new rich.” I also share why the book refuses to spell out its message, why that makes it so powerful.

Why the Poor Don’t Kill Us: What Noida Protests Reveal About India | Hindi Gharana |Noida Protests, Minimum Wage & Why the Poor Don’t Kill Us | Hindi GharanaIndia’s recent labor unrest, including the Noida protest and the ongoing fight for minimum wage, makes Manu Joseph’s Why the Poor Don’t Kill Us feel even more urgent. The book asks a hard question about inequality, class, and survival, and in this video, I connect that question to the real exploitation happening across Indian workplaces today. From domestic workers and security guards to class privilege, caste hierarchy, and the way the upper layer of society normalizes exploitation, this book helps explain why anger does not always turn into revolt. The Great Indian Brain Rot Book Review | Indian Internet, Influencers, & @AnuragMinusVermaPodcast In early 2026, I read one of the most exciting books on Indian internet culture I’ve come across: The Great Indian Brain Rot by Anurag Minus Verma, published by Bloomsbury. The book uses humour and satire to map how India’s internet has shifted from cyber cafés and Yahoo Messenger to Jio-era reels, influencers, caste pride content, conspiracy podcasts, and toxic positivity, and how that constant, unchecked consumption melts our brains instead of making us think. In this video, I share my honest thoughts after sitting with the book for a month:What “brain rot” really means in the context of TikTok, Instagram, and endless fact–list reelsHow the chapters cover loveless loners online, the influencer hustle, cringe creators, caste pride, media circus after Sushant Singh Rajput, the coaching/teaching ecosystem, podcasting bubbles, toxic positivity, and the “masala metaverse.”Why the Puneet Superstar chapter might be one of the most iconic internet-character openings in recent Indian nonfictionWhere I think the book holds back (especially around politics and IT-cell style internet operations), and what I wish it had explored moreAs someone who works full-time in content and podcast production, I also react to the chapters on influencers and podcasters from my own experience of guest hunting, desperation for views, and the strange economics of the Indian podcast scene. If you want to understand why your feed looks the way it does, why everyone suddenly wants to be a creator, and how the Indian internet has reshaped our sense of self, caste, money, “relatability” and success, this book is absolutely worth your time. This video is not sponsored. You can find The Great Indian Brain Rot on Amazon and other stores; I’ll leave the link in the comments and description. The Great Indian Brain Rot book review, Anurag Minus Verma review, Indian internet culture book, brain rot and social media, Indian influencer hustle, Indian podcast scene criticism, Puneet Superstar chapter, caste pride on social media, Sushant Singh Rajput media trial, toxic positivity online, coaching and edtech teachers internet, Bloomsbury India nonfiction, Hindi Gharana book review, hindigharana, Indian booktube, internet satire book 2026Host: Gourav & AdityaProducer & Editor: Gourav Follow us on Instagram: instagram.com/hindi_gharanaThanks for listening! The Dark Side of INDIAN Podcasts | Echo Chambers, Isolation and Misinformation | Hindi Gharana

In this Hindi Gharana video, Gourav Garg talks about his personal experiences as a podcast producer and the hidden side of the podcast industry. The video explores how podcasts create isolation, echo chambers, and misinformation by constantly reinforcing the same ideas without challenge.

Gourav shares what he has seen behind the scenes. How certain formats reward sensationalism, how guests are chosen to fit narratives and how the audience gets trapped in cycles of content that strengthen bias rather than break it.

This video questions the idea of podcasts as spaces for learning and shows how easily they become tools for misinformation and self-confirmation.

If you want to understand the psychology of echo chambers, the loneliness created by content consumption, and the responsibility of creators, watch this video till the end.

This is a reflection on digital culture from someone who has lived inside it.

Philosophy is Useless! | Einstein by Naseeruddin Shah | Bihar Politics | Hindi Gharana

In this Hindi Gharana discussion, Gourav and Aditya begin with a simple question: Is philosophy good or bad? Gourav argues that philosophy enriches life and helps us think more deeply, while Aditya explains how philosophy can confuse, mislead, and complicate simple ideas.

From this debate, the conversation shifts to the play Einstein by Naseeruddin Shah. We talk about our experience watching the performance and the larger issue of how little art appreciation exists in India. Why do theatre, classical arts, and serious performance struggle to find an audience in this country?

The discussion then moves toward music. We talk about Pawan Singh and how a singer with remarkable musicality and vocal strength can also be a deeply problematic public personality. This raises the question of whether we can or should separate the artist from the art.

This video brings together philosophy, theatre, music, culture and honest opinions. Watch the full conversation and share your views with Hindi Gharana.

This is an emotional and poignant open letter written by a courtesan, highlighting the atrocities and inhumanity that occurred during the Partition. The letter is addressed to Jawaharlal Nehru and Muhammad Ali Jinnah, narrating the stories of two girls named Bela and Batool.

Bela is a Hindu girl who witnessed her parents being killed during the riots in Rawalpindi, while Batool is a Muslim girl who saw her father and sisters being killed and dishonored by Jats in a village near Jalandhar. Both girls were bought by the courtesan, who gave them shelter in her home.

This letter tells the painful stories of these two girls and sheds light on the cruelty that occurred during Partition. It not only reveals the tragedy of Partition but also questions the boundaries of humanity and condemns the atrocities committed in the name of religion.

In this episode of Hindi Gharana, I, Gourav Garg, take a deep dive into Mother India by Prayaag Akbar. This novel, which aims to address critical social issues in modern India, left me with mixed feelings. While it does raise important questions and offers glimpses into the complexities of Indian society, I felt that the storytelling sometimes lacked the depth I was hoping for. The characters, though interesting, didn’t always connect with me on an emotional level, and certain themes could have been explored in a more impactful way. I’ll share what worked, what didn’t, and why this book might still be worth reading for those who are intrigued by social and political narratives. So, if you’ve been thinking about picking up Mother India, join me as I unpack my thoughts and provide an honest take on the novel’s strengths and shortcomings.

Color can indeed play a significant role in one's career growth, a fact that is sometimes overlooked. However, it is undeniable that it does. Conversely, it seems incongruous for someone on a spiritual journey to reject the teachings of an enlightened master. Our current discourse touches upon both political and spiritual dimensions.

There are number of ways to tell a story but some stories do not allow you to do so. They are meant to be told in the way they are written. For instance, a suicide not cannot be told in jolly mood.

Conversely, there are stories which offer you several layers to be explored.

This episode is admixture of both .

'Duniya roj banti hai' is something unbelievable yet important and so impactful that trying to appreciate it and admire it will probably demean it.

Today we are discussing about the poetic world created by 'Aalokdhanwa'.

He is so true and honest and vocal about his opinions that he ignites within the reader the same fire.

Without saying much we leave it to you to listen and contemplate on this magnificent work.

Walking through randomness you get to know the adrenaline of not having something to make. But in today's episode we somehow managed to navigate through an unplanned terrain. You can observe us literally weaving things in the thread of time. From cooking to reading and filling the gap with things from nowhere. Today we are really experimental.

Christopher Nolan's movie Oppenheimer is the subject of today's baat-chit.

In this episode of film pe charcha we have dissected this movie on the table of our little intelligence and observation.

Starting from acting to script to nuances of direction and navigating through storyline to goods and bads, we have tried to cover everything.

In the last also comes a hot debate, everything spoken about which is our own little understanding and not intended to hurt anybody.

In this week's episode, Gourav and Aditya will talk about the one and only Sant Kabeer.

We tried our best to summarize Kabir's philosophies and Ideas through a fraction of their work. We discussed Kabir's views on religion and how he breaks those orthodox values with their poetry. In future we will do more episodes on Kabir this is just 1%.

We hope you all will like this episode.

Thanks for listening.

For the year end we brought you two thought provoking novels. Kafan by Munshi Premchand & Slaughterhouse five by Kurt Vonnegut.

  1. Aditya's pick Kafan, a short story written by Premchand and published in 1936 in Hindi. Kafan isa satire on the degradation of human beings and talks about a father and son duo who need money to cremate the son's wife after her premature death during childbirth.

  2. Gourav's pick Slaughterhouse five, a novel published in the times of Vietnam war in the year 1969. It is the story of Biily Pilgrm, a decidedly non-heroic man who has become "unstuck in time." He travels back and forth in time, visiting his birth, death, all the moments in between repeatedly and out of order.
