There is so much pressure in the online world to be a Boss Babe CEO (a what?!), or a Biz Babe (please no), or to hustle 24/7, and if you really hate the thought of all that, then Life in Business is for you!
I started this podcast to make a difference. To tell you and your fellow business owners that there is an easier way to grow a business. There is a kinder way. There is a gentler way. There’s a way to do it without feeling guilty, or inadequate, or like you’re doing it all wrong.
I’m Libby Langley, and I am a coach and mentor who has ‘been there and done that’ more times than I care to count since I started my business in 2011. I’m also someone who, quite frankly, is tired of all the noise out there (yes Instagram gurus, I mean you!) and wants to empower a movement of female business owners to do it the way they want to, but in the kindest and most loving way possible.
Every week, Life in Business supports you to make small tweaks, to be confident in your business decisions, to say no to things you “should” be doing, and to make a healthy and guilt-free profit doing exactly what you love the most.
Thank you so much for listening. Please don’t forget to subscribe to, or follow this podcast, so you don’t miss any future episodes :-)
I’d love for you to say hi on Instagram. I’m @libbylangley. You can also visit my website at http://www.libbylangley.com to find out more about me and my coaching services.
Success is often presented as something everyone should be able to see.
A bigger house. A more expensive car. Six or seven figures. Thousands of followers. Awards, staff, launches, book deals, and an apparently fabulous life in Dubai.
These things are easy to display and easy to count, but they do not tell us whether someone is happy, financially secure, enjoying their work, or living a life they actually want.
In this episode, I explore how business success became so closely tied to visible numbers and status, and why the internet has made that worse by turning success into content. I also share my own experiences of chasing bigger houses, expensive shoes, business growth, and other milestones that seemed meaningful until I stopped to ask what I genuinely wanted.
The problem is not success. It is borrowed success: the definition we inherit from family, employers, business culture, Instagram, LinkedIn, and people selling us their blueprint.
In this episode:
• Why we assume successful people should visibly look successful
• How economic measures such as profit, growth, market share, and output shaped our ideas about business success
• Why houses, cars, income, followers, and awards became external scoreboards
• How social media turned success into public content
• Why revenue figures rarely reveal the full financial reality of a business
• The appeal of having a clear, measurable target to chase
• Why external scoreboards save us from defining success for ourselves
• The difference between outward status and the internal experience of autonomy, meaning, relationships, and contentment
• How borrowed definitions of success can lead to burnout, apathy, and a business you hate living inside
• Why your definition of success will change as your life changes
• What my own houses, business models, and expensive-but-uncomfortable shoes taught me
• Why a successful Tuesday may tell you more than an annual revenue target
• How to think about what success feels like, rather than how it looks to everybody else
Success is personal. The things you wanted at 25 may feel irrelevant at 45 or 55, yet it is remarkably easy to continue chasing an old definition long after it has stopped fitting.
Instead of asking only what success looks like, ask what a successful ordinary day would contain. Would you be rushing between meetings, or would you have time to write, walk, think, finish at four, earn enough, and sit in the garden talking to the cows?
The answer will probably give you a far more honest measure of success than any Rolex, rented Lamborghini, or impressive number on the internet.

What does confidence actually look like?
Is it speaking on stage? Wearing the "right" clothes? Charging higher prices? Being the loudest person in the room?
Or have we confused confidence with something else entirely?
In this episode, I unpack the messy truth about confidence, why we've become so obsessed with it in business, and why trusting yourself might be far more important than trying to become a more confident version of yourself.
In this episode:
Confidence can be useful, but it isn't the goal.
Trusting yourself to make decisions, cope when things don't go to plan, and keep moving forward is far more valuable than trying to look confident for other people's benefit.
If you've ever thought, "I'd do that if only I were more confident," this episode invites you to ask a different question altogether.

Two hundred episodes.
When I started this podcast, I thought my business was to teach people how to do business better. 200 episodes later, and I think my job is something slightly different.
It's to help you think better about your business.
To mark episode 200, I wanted to step back and share the principles I've stopped arguing with. These aren't trends, hacks, or productivity tips. They're the lessons that have remained true after building businesses, employing people, burning out, simplifying, changing direction, and supporting thousands of business owners.
If you've listened to every episode, thank you. If this is your first, you've joined at a pretty good place.
In this episode:
• Why simple almost always beats clever
• Why most business owners don't need more information, they need better decisions
• Why your business should fit your life instead of consuming it
• Why capacity matters more than constant productivity
• Why nobody knows your business better than you do
• Why success is always personal and should never be borrowed from someone else
• Why you're allowed to change your mind as your business and life evolve
• How fifteen years in business have changed the way I think about growth, simplicity, and ambition
• Why this podcast has become less about teaching and more about reflection
Looking back, I've built businesses, simplified them, scaled them, stripped them back, burnt out, started again, and discovered that the things I enjoy most have barely changed at all.
Helping people think more clearly.
Sorting businesses out.
Having interesting conversations.
Sharing what I've learnt.
Everything else has evolved around those foundations.
Whether you've been listening since episode one or you've only just discovered Messy Business, I hope this episode gives you permission to trust your own judgement, define success on your own terms, and build a business that works for the life you actually want.

The moment you achieve something in business, somebody usually asks what comes next.
You reach your first major income goal, hire somebody, write a book, or launch something successful, and almost immediately the focus moves to the next milestone.
We are very good at striving. We are much less comfortable with staying where we are, maintaining what we have built, and admitting that life and business might already be pretty good.
In this episode, I explore the messy truth about always wanting more. I look at why constant growth has become so closely linked with ambition and success, and why deciding that you have enough can feel surprisingly provocative.
This is not an argument against goals or ambition. It is an invitation to notice whether you are consciously choosing what comes next or simply continuing to climb because nobody ever told you that you were allowed to stop.
In this episode:
• Why “what’s next?” has become the default response to achievement
• How constant striving can stop us appreciating what we have already built
• Why maintaining something can require more intention than chasing a new goal
• The relationship between business growth, status, wealth, and social approval
• How online business culture turned six, seven, and eight figures into identities
• Why satisfaction is so often treated as temporary
• What I learnt from attending a Second Mountain event in my fifties
• Why I am far more interested in stability, calm, and enjoyment than climbing another mountain
• The difference between expansion, refinement, depth, and protecting what you have built
• Why “everything is fine” can sometimes hide the fact that things are actually very good
• What enough might look like in your own business
• The questions to ask if nothing had to become bigger next year
After fifteen years in business, I have built big, built small, employed people, scaled, simplified, burnt out, and started again. Where I have landed is not more. It is better.
Perhaps your next phase is not about another reinvention, a bigger target, or a more impressive business. Perhaps it is about living the life you spent all those years trying to create.

Scaling is one of those business ideas that gets talked about as though it is the obvious next step.
Scale your income. Scale your impact. Scale beyond yourself. Build something bigger.
But do you actually want that? Or have you simply absorbed the idea that a successful business is supposed to keep getting bigger?
In this episode, I explore the messy truth about scaling your small business. We look at where the idea came from, how startup and online business culture turned scaling into a marker of success, and why it can be a dangerous thing to chase without asking what you actually want.
Because scaling does not just change your business. It changes your job.
You might go from doing the work you love to managing people, systems, tech, delivery, customer service, operations and a whole heap of moving parts you never especially wanted. That might be brilliant for you. It might also be the exact opposite of the business you hoped you were building.
In this episode:
The messy truth is that scaling is not a requirement. It is a choice.
Before you ask how to scale your business, it is worth asking why you want to scale it in the first place. If the real goal is more income, freedom, security, status or impact, scaling may or may not be the best route to get there.
A bigger business is not automatically a better business. The better question is: what is the right business for the life you actually want?

Being fully booked is often treated as the ultimate sign that your business is successful.
It's become shorthand for being in demand, making good money and finally "making it".
But is a packed diary really the goal?
In this episode, I explore where the idea of being fully booked came from, why it made perfect sense for traditional service businesses, and how it became a status symbol in the online business world. We also look at why chasing a full calendar can sometimes lead to lower profits, less freedom and a business that's become harder to enjoy.
Because being fully booked isn't automatically good or bad. It's just one metric. The real question is whether it's helping you build the business you actually want.
In this episode:
The messy truth is that being fully booked isn't the destination. It's simply one possible outcome of a particular business model. What's far more important is deciding what you actually want your business to give you, and building around that instead of chasing someone else's definition of success.

Most people who start a business say some version of the same thing: "I just want to be my own boss"
It's one of the most accepted ideas in business. We hear it so often that we rarely stop to question what it actually means.
In this episode, I unpack the messy truth behind being your own boss. We explore where the idea came from, why it became synonymous with freedom, and why so many business owners discover that swapping one boss for another isn't quite the liberation they expected.
Because while nobody might be checking what time you arrive at work or approving your holiday requests anymore, self-employment brings its own pressures, responsibilities, and competing demands.
The bigger question isn't whether you want to be your own boss. It's what you're actually looking for in the first place.
In this episode:
• Where the idea of "being your own boss" came from
• Why entrepreneurial culture turned self-employment into a symbol of freedom
• What people are really looking for when they say they want to work for themselves
• The appeal of autonomy, flexibility, and control
• How clients, cash flow, deadlines, and expectations can become your new bosses
• Why self-employment sometimes creates more pressure, not less
• The trap of building yourself a job you don't actually enjoy
• What happens when you become a harsher boss to yourself than any manager ever was
• The difference between freedom and responsibility
• Why "being your own boss" might be the wrong goal entirely
• Better questions to ask when designing your business and working life
The messy truth is that being your own boss isn't the destination. It's simply one way of getting closer to the things you actually want: more autonomy, more flexibility, more meaning, more control, or more time. The challenge is working out which of those matters most to you.

There is no shortage of business advice.
Scale your business. Build passive income. Automate everything. Charge your worth.
Invest before you're ready. Post more content. Build a personal brand.
The problem isn't that any of these ideas are automatically wrong, the problem is that they're often presented as universal truths when they're anything but.
In this episode, I explore some of the most common pieces of business advice doing the rounds online and explain why context matters so much more than catchy slogans. Because what works brilliantly for one business owner can be completely wrong for another.
The goal isn't to ignore all advice; it's to get better at deciding which advice is worth listening to and which advice deserves a healthy dose of scepticism.
In this episode:
• Why business advice without context can be surprisingly dangerous
• The reality behind the passive income dream
• Why you probably don't need to be on every social media platform
• The hidden assumptions behind "scale, scale, scale"
• Why automating everything isn't always a good idea
• The role human connection still plays in business
• Whether you really need a complicated marketing funnel
• Why posting more content isn't necessarily the answer
• My thoughts on the phrase "charge your worth"
• The risks of investing before you're ready
• How to make better decisions about outsourcing
• Why done isn't always better than perfect
• What personal branding actually means in practice

Smart people have a unique talent.
We can see opportunities everywhere, absorb huge amounts of information, understand multiple sides of an argument, and build a very convincing case for almost anything.
Useful? Absolutely.
But it can also create some unexpected problems.
In this episode, I explore why capable business owners often end up making decisions that look a little strange from the outside. We look at overcomplicating simple problems, confusing information with progress, getting distracted by opportunities, trying to solve everything ourselves, and attaching too much of our identity to being the person who can always figure things out.
Because sometimes the very things that make us good at what we do can make business harder than it needs to be.
In this episode:
• Why simple solutions can feel uncomfortable when you're used to solving complex problems
• The difference between gathering information and actually making progress
• How capable people can end up arguing both sides of every decision
• Why opportunities can become distractions
• The hidden cost of always being the person who figures everything out
• How intelligence can sometimes disguise fear, avoidance, or indecision
• Why boring basics often outperform clever solutions
• The trap of turning every interest into a potential business idea
• How being "the capable one" can become part of your identity
• What happens when you stop trying to solve everything yourself

After working with more than 7,500 business owners over the years, I've noticed that most business problems aren't nearly as unique as we think they are.
People often come to me convinced they need more clients, better marketing, a new website, or a completely different strategy. Sometimes that's true. More often, the real issue is hiding somewhere else.
In this episode, I'm sharing 10 of the most common mistakes I see small business owners make, and not because I'm judging them. I've made most of them myself at one point or another.
These are the patterns that creep into businesses over time. The things that create confusion, dent profitability, drain your energy, and leave you wondering why everything feels complicated.
In this episode:
If your business feels messy, fragmented, or like you're putting in a lot of effort without seeing the results you'd expect, there's a good chance one of these ten areas is playing a part.

I've spent an embarrassing amount of time moving things one pixel to the left in Canva.
I've rewritten websites. Reorganised systems. Created new things. Tweaked old things. Rearranged business furniture that didn't actually need rearranging.
The problem is that a lot of business activities feel productive.
You can spend an entire day doing them and finish feeling busy, diligent and hardworking.
Whether any of it has actually moved your business forward is a different question entirely.
In this week's episode, I'm talking about the difference between work that looks good and work that gets results.
Because many of us fill our days with tasks that are visible, measurable and oddly comforting, while avoiding the conversations, decisions and actions that would make the biggest difference.
I've done it.
My clients have done it.
You've almost certainly done it too.
This isn't an episode about hustle, squeezing more into your day, or becoming some sort of productivity machine.
It's about paying attention to what actually works.
In this episode:
If you've ever reached the end of a working week feeling exhausted but strangely unsure what you've actually achieved, this episode is for you.

Do you ever get that nagging feeling that everyone else in business is somehow further ahead than you?
Like they’ve figured something out that you’ve missed?
Maybe they’re launching shiny new things, talking about big numbers, showing up everywhere online, and meanwhile you’re wondering whether your own business is a bit… behind.
I want to talk about that this week, because I think this feeling catches far more solo business owners than we admit.
And honestly? I think a lot of it comes down to noise.
Not facts.
Not your actual progress.
Not necessarily anything wrong with your business.
Just noise.
The kind that creeps in through social media, business chatter, endless advice, shiny strategies, and people presenting edited highlights as if that’s normal everyday life.
And before you know it, you’re questioning perfectly sensible decisions, adding extra layers to your business, and feeling like you should be doing far more than you actually need to.
In this episode, I’m unpacking why business comparison is so unhelpful, why over-complication often starts with external noise, and why the answer usually isn’t to pile even more onto your plate.
Because sometimes the smartest thing you can do is strip things back.
In this episode:
🟠 Why feeling “behind” is often based on perception, not reality
🟠 How business noise creates unnecessary doubt
🟠 Why social media makes sensible businesses feel inadequate
🟠 The problem with measuring yourself against incomplete information
🟠 Why more offers, more platforms, and more activity rarely solve the real issue
🟠 A simpler way to think about what your business actually needs
🟠 Why doing less can sometimes move you forward faster
If your business has started to feel noisier, heavier, or more complicated than it needs to, this one’s for you.

Do you more clients, or do you actually need a better business structure? This episode is for the business owner who thinks the answer is more people through the door, when the real issue might be pricing, delivery, boundaries, or the clients already in the business.
More clients sounds like the obvious answer.
More clients means more money. More money means everything gets easier. Lovely idea.
But it does not always work like that.
In this episode, I’m talking about why adding more clients can sometimes make your business harder to run. More people often means more admin, more delivery time, more messages, more pressure, and more cracks showing in the parts of the business that already need attention.
Sometimes the problem is not client numbers.
It’s pricing that does not reflect the real time and energy involved. It’s over-delivery that has become normal. It’s scope creep. It’s vague boundaries. It’s taking on clients who are not a good fit because money is money, except sometimes that money costs far too much.
I share a couple of stories from my own business, including clients I should never have taken on and the lessons they taught me about red flags, payment terms, boundaries, and listening to your own judgement.
Because a client who looks good on paper can still be a nightmare in practice.
And a business can be fully booked and still not be making enough money.
That’s the bit that matters here. More clients might help, but only if the structure underneath works. Otherwise, you’re just scaling the problem.
🧡 In this episode, I talk about:
If you’ve been thinking “I just need more clients”, this episode will help you look at that more honestly.
Because sometimes the better question is:
How do I make this work better with the clients I already have?

Just because you can do something in your business, does not mean it belongs there. This episode is for capable business owners who can turn their hand to loads of things, then wonder why their business has become harder to explain, sell, and run.
Being capable is useful, obviously. But it can also be a massive nuisance.
You learn quickly. You can build the tech. You can create the workshop. You can run the membership. You can make the programme, set up the emails, record the videos, add the extra offer, and probably make a spreadsheet for the whole thing while you’re at it.
Lovely.
But should you?
That’s the question I’m getting into in this episode, because capability can send you down all sorts of side roads. You say yes because you can. You create something because you know how. You add another offer because it seems like a good idea. Then, before long, your business is full of things you’re good at but don’t actually want to keep doing.
I talk about how I’ve done this myself over the years. Programmes, memberships, workshops, pre-recorded videos, social media work, consultancy, white-label projects, all sorts. A lot of it worked. Some of it made money. Some of it helped people. But that still didn’t mean all of it was right for my business.
That’s the bit we often miss.
Something can work and still not be the thing you want to build around.
In this episode, I’m looking at what happens when your business gets shaped around what you’re capable of, rather than what you actually want to do. It can lead to too many offers, too many ways of working, too much context switching, and a message that becomes harder for people to understand.
And it makes your own head busier too.
The clearer I’ve got on what I actually do, the simpler everything has become. I sort businesses out. That’s it. The rest is knowledge, experience, and useful stuff I can draw on, but it doesn’t all need to become an offer.
🧡 In this episode, I talk about:
If your business has become a collection of things you can do, rather than a clear expression of what you want to do, this episode will hit home.
Because the fact you can do something is not enough of a reason to keep offering it.

Are you really stuck in your business, or are you avoiding the thing you already know you need to do? This episode is for the business owner who keeps saying they feel stuck, when the real issue might be a decision, a conversation, or a change they’d rather not face yet.
In this episode, I’m talking about stuckness.
That horrible feeling of not knowing what to do next, not knowing how to move forward, or feeling like there’s an invisible wall in the way. It can feel very real when you’re in it, and I’ve heard thousands of business owners use that word over the years.
But sometimes, being stuck is not really about being stuck.
Sometimes it’s avoidance.
It might be avoiding putting your prices up, even though your costs have increased and your profit has taken the hit. It might be avoiding saying no to a client who is not the right fit. It might be avoiding changing how you work, because the freedom to choose your own rules can feel a bit wobbly when you’ve spent years being told how work is supposed to look.
I talk about why business owners often sit in the stuckness for longer than they need to, partly because it feels safer than making the decision. If you call it stuck, you can keep looking for the answer somewhere else. Another course, another strategy, another project, another thing to distract yourself with.
But deep down, you often know.
That’s the bit we get into here. The gap between knowing and doing. The fear of the awkward conversation. The fear of changing something that has become familiar. The fear that if you set a boundary, put up a price, change a service, or say no, everything will fall apart.
Most of the time, it won’t.
There might be a wobbly moment. There might be a slightly awkward conversation. But then things usually carry on. Often they improve.
🧡 In this episode, I talk about:
This episode is a useful one if you’ve been going round in circles, adding more layers, or waiting for the perfect answer to appear.
Because sometimes the next move is not another idea.
It’s the thing you already know.

Starting to notice that everyone sounds the same online? Same tone, same structure, same slightly polished way of saying things that all blur into one? This episode is for anyone using AI in their business who doesn’t want to disappear into that.
The issue isn’t AI itself, it’s how it’s being used.
There’s a lot of content out there now that reads the same. Emails, posts, even podcasts that feel smoothed out and interchangeable. You can tell when something hasn’t come directly from the person it’s meant to represent. And once you notice it, you can’t unsee it.
I talk about where AI is genuinely useful. Organising your thoughts. Helping you get unstuck. Acting as a second brain. Giving you a starting point or a sense check.
But there’s a line.
Once it starts replacing your voice rather than supporting it, everything starts to flatten out. And when that happens, you blend in.
I also get into the telltale signs. The patterns that creep in when you’ve relied on it too much. The phrases, the structure, the way sentences are put together. None of it is awful in isolation, but together it creates something that doesn’t quite sound like you.
If that gets watered down, the whole thing becomes less effective.
🧡 In this episode, I talk about:
If you’re using AI to support your business, this is about using it in a way that keeps you in it.

Is your business starting to do your head in, even though it looks like it’s all going fine? This episode is for the business owner who’s getting more and more irritated by how their business runs.
In this episode, I’m talking about that point where things just start to grate.
Nothing is obviously wrong. You’ve got clients. Money is coming in. From the outside, it all makes sense. But day to day, it’s becoming annoying. Tasks feel bigger than they should. You put things off. You find yourself avoiding parts of your own business or wondering why you set it up like this.
That’s worth paying attention to.
Because if you built your business to have more control over how you work, it doesn’t make sense to stay stuck in something that feels like a chore.
I talk about what’s usually going on underneath this. It’s rarely the work itself. It’s how the work is structured. The format you’ve chosen. The way you deliver things. The tools you’re using. The extra layers that have crept in over time.
I also talk about the two common reactions at this point. One is to try harder by doing more, posting more, taking on more. The other is to scrap everything and start again. I’ve done both. Neither sorts the root of it.
What tends to help is much simpler.
Stepping back and looking at what still works, what drains you, what feels clunky, and what’s been added over time. Then keeping what makes sense and removing what doesn’t.
That’s where things usually start to ease.
🧡 In this episode, I talk about:
If your business is starting to feel like effort in the wrong places, this will probably sound familiar.
Because often the issue is not the business itself.
It’s how it’s been put together.

Always starting new things in your business? New offer, new lead magnet, new niche, new plan, new idea that feels absolutely genius at 10pm? This episode is for the business owner whose brain is full of ideas, but whose business is starting to feel cluttered, scattered, and harder to run because of them.
In this episode, I’m talking about the habit of starting something new every time something feels a bit off.
I know that habit well.
This comes from years of having big ideas, acting on impulse, buying the thing, building the thing, setting up the thing, and then sometimes wondering almost immediately why on earth I’d done it. There’s a particular kind of energy that comes with a new idea, especially if you’re creative, curious, entrepreneurial, or your brain is wired for novelty. It can feel exciting, productive, and weirdly convincing.
But that does not automatically make it a good move.
A lot of the time, starting something new looks like progress when it’s actually avoidance. It gives you something shiny to focus on instead of making a decision about what’s already not working. And before you know it, you’ve added more offers, more software, more moving parts, more confusion, and more things to maintain in a business that was already feeling messy.
That’s what this episode gets into.
I talk about the difference between having brilliant ideas and acting on every single one of them. I share the very unglamorous but genuinely useful rule that has helped me stop myself from creating things I do not need to create. And I make the case for something that is far less exciting, but far more effective: sorting out what you’ve already built before piling anything else on top of it.
Because often the answer is not another idea.
It’s clarity.
It’s noticing what’s already working, what’s become unnecessarily complicated, and what you’re avoiding fixing. That’s where the useful stuff tends to be. That’s where better decisions come from. And that’s also how you stop building a business that feels like chaos with branding.
🧡 In this episode, I talk about:
This episode is for the person with a Notes app full of ideas, a brain that lights up at every possibility, and a business that probably does not need another layer adding to it this week.
Your ideas are not the problem.
Acting on all of them might be.

Ever found yourself thinking, my business is technically working, so why do I resent half of it? This episode is for the solo business owner who looks fine on paper but feels fed up, boxed in, or just irritated by the way their business actually runs.
In this episode, I’m talking about something that can feel quite hard to admit out loud: sometimes a business can be successful enough, busy enough, and respectable enough, and still feel wrong to live inside.
That’s a strange place to be.
Because when clients are coming in, money is coming in, and nothing looks obviously broken, it can feel almost embarrassing to say you’re unhappy with it. It can make you question yourself. It can make you feel ungrateful. It can make you stay in something far longer than you should, simply because it looks like it’s working.
But often, the problem is not the business itself.
It’s the way it works.
I talk in this episode about how that can show up. Not wanting to open your laptop. Avoiding certain calls. Feeling irritated by your own offers. Finding everything more effort than it ought to be. Having a business that functions, but only by asking you to keep working in ways that don’t suit you anymore.
That was true for me too.
I share more about the business model I built years ago that looked successful from the outside, but was wrong for me behind the scenes. It made sense on paper. It had clients, income, team members, momentum. But the model itself became the issue. And that distinction matters, because once you see it clearly, you stop making the whole thing mean something about you.
This episode is really about recognising when your business has grown in a direction that no longer fits, and why changing that is not reckless or dramatic. Sometimes it’s a huge shift. Sometimes it’s smaller than that. A different delivery method. A better working rhythm. Fewer moving parts. A simpler way of operating. More honesty about what you actually want.
🧡 In this episode, I talk about:
If your business has started to feel heavy, annoying, or oddly joyless, even though it’s doing what it’s supposed to do, this episode will probably hit home.
Because sometimes the real issue is not whether the business works.
It’s whether it works for you.

Do you ever feel like you’re doing business wrong because you’re not up at 5am, posting non-stop, buying every course, or building some ridiculous funnel with 47 moving parts? This episode is for anyone who’s tired of being told there’s one right way to run a successful business.
In this episode, I’m pulling apart some of the internet’s favourite business success myths and saying what probably needs saying: a lot of this stuff is nonsense. Or at the very least, it’s optional.
Because somewhere along the line, business success got tangled up with performance. Morning routines became personality tests. Social media became a full-time identity. Growth became something you were supposed to chase at all costs, whether it suited you or not. And if you weren’t doing all of it, it was easy to assume you were behind.
I don’t buy that.
I talk through the myths that keep business owners busy, distracted, and second-guessing themselves. Things like extreme productivity habits, attending every event, constantly learning, living your life online, building huge audiences, creating complicated funnels, launching endless new offers, and assuming that scaling is always the goal.
Some of these things can be useful. Some can even be enjoyable. But none of them are automatic proof that you’re doing business well. And none of them are essential just because the internet keeps shouting about them.
This episode is really about stripping things back and remembering what actually matters. A business does not need to be loud, complicated, public, or hyper-optimised to work. It needs to make sense for you. It needs to fit your life, your energy, your strengths, and the way you actually want to work.
If your business feels heavier than it should, there’s a good chance it’s not because you need to do more. It might be because you’ve picked up too many rules that were never right for you in the first place.
🧡 In this episode, I talk about:
This is a grounding episode for anyone who’s been overthinking their business, chasing the wrong things, or quietly wondering whether all this advice is making life harder instead of easier.
You do not need to cosplay someone else’s version of entrepreneurship.
You need a business that works.
And sometimes that starts by questioning the nonsense you’ve absorbed and getting honest about what actually fits.

In business, we’re taught that success should look like constant growth. Bigger offers, bigger programmes, more clients, more moving parts, more visible proof that things are working.
And sometimes that does work. Until it doesn’t.
In this episode, I’m talking about a version of success I built, lived, and eventually walked away from. Because from the outside it looked impressive. The money was coming in, the opportunities were there, people were congratulating me. But underneath all of that, it had become something I didn’t actually want to run.
I talk about the earlier version of my business where I had a team, an office, lots of clients, lots of activity, and plenty of external signs that things were going well. And I talk about the quieter, less visible truth underneath it. The exhaustion, the pressure, the cost of holding something together that no longer fit me.
I also share how that pattern repeated itself in more modern online-business ways. Programmes, containers, structures, models that looked sensible on paper but didn’t suit how I actually work, think, or want to support people.
This episode is really about recognising that there isn’t one “correct” business model. There isn’t one gold standard that everyone sensible should be aiming for. The right structure is the one that works for you living inside it.
In this episode, I explore:
🧡 The version of success I built and why I chose to walk away from it
🧡 How a business can look brilliant on paper and still feel wrong to run
🧡 Why I’ve stopped pretending certain business models suit me when they don’t
🧡 The difference between what works and what works for you
🧡 How structure drift makes businesses harder than they need to be
🧡 Why the packaging is often the problem, not the core of the work itself
This is an honest episode about self-awareness, business models, and giving yourself permission to stop chasing forms of success that don’t actually fit.
Because sometimes the bravest thing you can do is admit that the version of success everyone else admires is not the one you want.

There’s a lot of noise in business telling you to do more. More content, more platforms, more effort, more everything. And at some point, it just becomes exhausting.
In this episode, I’m bringing it back to something much simpler. Doing less, but doing it better. Not as a shortcut, and not as an excuse, but as a deliberate way of running a business that actually works for you.
We’re talking about what really matters when you strip everything back. Enjoying what you do, making proper profit, and building something that doesn’t drain you in the process. Because if you’re working flat out and it still doesn’t feel good, something’s off.
I also revisit the “house” way of thinking about your business. Foundations first, then the structure, then the marketing. Not the other way round. It’s a much calmer way to build, and it makes everything else easier to understand and maintain.
This isn’t about being lazy. It’s about being clear. Choosing what stays, what goes, and what actually deserves your time and attention.
If you’ve been feeling pulled in too many directions, or like your business has become a bit louder than you’d like, this will help you steady things again.

When income dips in business it is very easy to assume the problem is money.
But often the real issue sits somewhere else entirely, often in the decisions behind the income.
In this episode I look at the chain of decisions that impact revenue in a small business. Offers, pricing, marketing, and consistency. When those decisions become tangled or uncertain, income tends to wobble as well.
I also talk honestly about my own experience of running multiple versions of my business over the years. New programmes, new tools, new platforms, new ideas. Some of that came from curiosity and experimentation. Some of it came from uncertainty. All of it added complexity.
Recently I have been stripping things back. Fewer moving parts. Fewer expenses. More trust in the work I actually enjoy doing and the way I help people think more clearly about their businesses.
In this episode I talk about:
🧡 Why income dips often trace back to messy decisions
🧡 The simple things that actually produce revenue in a small business
🧡 How complexity and software creep eat into profit
🧡 The emotional side of decision fatigue for solo business owners
🧡 Why panic decisions like discounting or sudden pivots rarely help
🧡 Three practical ways to stabilise income through clearer decisions
Running a solo business already involves carrying a lot in your head. Sales, delivery, marketing, admin, finance and everything else. When decision fatigue creeps in it becomes harder to see what matters.
This episode is a stabiliser. A chance to slow your thinking down and bring things back to the fundamentals.

Overthinking can look like diligence. It can feel responsible. Like you’re being careful, thoughtful, strategic.
But in reality, it often becomes one of the most expensive habits in business.
Not just in money, but in time, energy, momentum, and confidence.
In this episode I talk about the hidden cost of overthinking and why it can slow down capable business owners who already know far more than they think they do. Because in most solo businesses, the problem isn’t usually strategy. It’s the constant loop of questioning, analysing, doubting, and second-guessing decisions that were already perfectly good.
When that happens, small decisions turn into weeks of background noise, simple plans get overcomplicated, and you end up reacting instead of moving forward.
I share my own experience with this, the ways it can show up in everyday business decisions, and why clarity and calm thinking are often far more powerful than endless analysis.
In this episode we explore:
Because when your thinking slows down, the obvious next step usually becomes clear again.
And often the most useful move is simply making one decision and letting that be enough.

FOMO - the fear of missing out - has become so normal in business that most of us barely question it. It shows up as that low-level pressure to post more, launch more, join more things, and generally keep up with everyone else.
But all it really does is scatter your attention and disconnect you from yourself.
In this episode, I’m talking about JOMO - the joy of missing out - and why deliberately not doing things is often the clearest, strongest move you can make. Because every time you say yes to something out of panic, comparison, or pressure, you’re usually moving further away from the business and life you actually want.
I share my own experience of stepping away from masterminds, letting ideas sit before acting on them, and realising that calm clarity is far more useful than frantic visibility.
In this episode, I also explore:
🧡 Why FOMO creates noise, pressure, and reactive decision-making
🧡 How comparison pulls you away from your own direction
🧡 Why every “yes” closes the door on something else
🧡 The value of letting ideas sit before you act on them
🧡 How choosing less can actually strengthen your business

Complexity has somehow become a badge of honour in business. More tools, more plans, more content, more ideas - and then more guilt when you can’t keep up with the very thing you created.
In this episode of Messy Business, I’m talking about why most capable business owners don’t need more strategy, they need less friction.
This isn’t about stripping everything back to some unrealistic minimalist ideal. It’s about making your business easier to live with. Easier to think inside. Easier to explain. Easier to start.
I talk about why adding more is often the instinct when things feel stuck; and why that usually makes everything heavier instead of clearer. We look at how over-complication sneaks in through tools, offers, marketing, and “shoulds”, and how clarity often comes from cutting things away rather than piling them on.
This episode is for you if your business feels messier in your head than it needs to be, if you’re drowning in half-finished ideas, or if you secretly feel like things would work better if everything were just simpler.
Not simpler for anyone else. Simpler for you.

If you’re the "I’m fine" one (even when you’re falling apart inside), this episode is for you.
I’m talking about the exhausting pressure to perform competence in business - always sounding sorted, always polished, always upbeat - and why that performance layer is one of the fastest routes to burnout (even when nothing is technically wrong).
This episode is about presence over polish, honesty over performance, and building a business that’s actually sustainable to live inside.

In this extra episode, I talk openly about what it really looks like to run a business when the world feels overwhelming, frightening, and chaotic. This isn’t about “being resilient” or pushing through; it’s about steadiness, sanity, and staying connected to yourself when everything around you feels shaky.
I reflect on how global events seep into our nervous systems, why this affects our capacity, decision-making, and spending behaviour, and why feeling stuck, overthinking, or avoiding things doesn’t mean you’re “bad at business”.

Motivation gets an unhealthy amount of hype. In this episode, I’m discussing why motivation is an unreliable (and often unhelpful) thing to chase, and what to pay attention to instead if you want to actually move forward in your business without forcing yourself into a performance.
This isn’t about “try harder” or “push through”. It’s about realistic positivity, a bit of readiness, and building momentum through small, aligned actions, especially if you’re tired, neurodivergent, or allergic to the rah-rah internet.

In this episode of Messy Business, I’m talking about capacity - what it actually is, how it feels when it’s low, and why pushing through isn’t always the answer.
🟠 Motivation and capacity are not the same thing. You can want to do the work and still not have the mental, physical, or nervous-system capacity to hold it - and that doesn’t mean you’re uncommitted or doing anything wrong.
🧡 I share honestly what low capacity has looked like for me over the past couple of years, including grief, burnout, life upheaval, and the unseen exhaustion that builds when you keep overriding yourself.
🟠 You'll hear:
🧡 This isn’t a doom-and-gloom episode. It’s about sustainability, trust, and learning to build your business around who you actually are, not who you think you should be.
🟠 If things feel harder than usual right now, you’re not alone. You might just be tired.

People talk a lot about “finding your sweet spot” in business, as if it’s a destination you eventually arrive at once you’ve tweaked enough, learned enough, or built the perfect offer.
In this episode, I talk honestly about why that idea kept me stuck for years, and how I’ve come to understand my own sweet spot not as something I had to create, but something that was revealed once I stopped forcing, polishing, and over-engineering everything.
This is a reflective, grounding episode about exhaustion, burnout, simplification, and what happens when you stop trying to be impressive and start paying attention to what actually feels right.
We explore why chasing the “perfect niche” or “perfect offer” often pulls you further away from your sweet spot, not closer; and how relief, calm, and ease can be much more reliable signals than excitement or hype.
🧡 Why your sweet spot isn’t something you engineer, it’s something you uncover
🧡 How removing pressure, packaging, and performance can bring unexpected clarity
🧡 The difference between proving your expertise and quietly trusting it
🧡 Why feeling less busy, less impressive, and less urgent might mean you’re closer than you think
🧡 How orientation - not optimisation - helps when you feel lost, tired, or disconnected from your work
🧡 The signs you’re near your sweet spot (and why you don’t need to name it yet)
If you’ve been feeling weighed down, disoriented, or are fed up with chasing the next thing, this episode is an invitation to pause, notice what’s already working, and let simplicity do some of the heavy lifting.

Digital clutter isn’t just a bit annoying. It’s cognitively demanding - the invisible weight you carry around in the background that slowly drains your focus, decision-making, and energy.
In this episode of Messy Business, I’m talking about the mental load of digital clutter: the tabs you never close, the old offers you don’t run anymore, the Canva designs you’ll never use, the dusty folders called some meaningless name, and the inbox that gradually becomes a list of things asking something of you.
This isn’t an episode about productivity, inbox zero, or becoming some kind of minimalist monk. It’s an orienteering episode, because when everything feels foggy, heavy, scattered, or “I don’t know what I’m doing anymore”, sometimes the most stabilising thing you can do is remove the background noise.
I share what it’s felt like to start 2026 by making small, doable edits - like closing 65 Chrome tabs (yes, really), getting my inbox down from 1,256 emails to 35, and deleting photos so I’m not paying for endless iCloud storage. Not because I became a new person overnight, but because I needed to feel lighter.
We talk about:
If your head feels full, your business feels noisy, or you can’t hear what you actually want anymore… this episode will help you reorient. Not by adding more, but by removing what no longer belongs.
✨ Sometimes the most supportive thing you can do isn’t to plan better. It’s to delete what’s been under-the-radar asking something of you for years.

It’s January 2026 and the internet is screaming fresh start! and big year energy! - but this episode is the quieter truth underneath that.
Because sometimes the most honest place you can be in business is this: you know what can’t continue… but you don’t yet know what’s replacing it.
In this episode of Messy Business, I share what it’s actually felt like to close my main programme at the end of December - a decision that came from capacity, health, burnout, shingles, life being life… and the realisation that carrying on would’ve meant showing up as a husk of myself. I talk about the mix of emotions (relief, sadness, fear, pride), and why that huge sense of lightness is often the clearest sign you’ve made the right call.
We explore the difference between ending something gracefully and burning everything down dramatically - and why ending doesn’t mean failing. Sometimes it simply means the structure no longer fits who you are and what you can hold.
I also talk about what I’ve outgrown: the business model that relied on scheduled Zoom calls. Not the people, not the support - the structure. Because it wasn’t the calls themselves that were the problem… it was the fact they existed in the diary, acting like a constant constraint when life was already full.
This episode is a reminder that being good at something, or being known for something, doesn’t mean it’s still right. And it’s also a gentle nudge to stop keeping things alive purely because past-you set them up.
Along the way, I share what I do know about 2026 - even without a shiny plan:
And I leave you with reflective questions that might land hard (in a good way):
✨ You don’t need a dramatic rebrand or a big announcement. Sometimes the first move forward is just quietly not renewing something.

This isn’t a strategy episode. It’s a wondering-out-loud episode. An episode about curiosity, colour returning to things that felt grey for far too long, and what might happen if we let joy, not pressure, lead the way.
In this episode of Messy Business, I talk honestly about how fun kind of left the business room. How work became performance, value became output, service became self-sacrifice, and visibility replaced connection. And how easy it is to stay competent while feeling absolutely nothing.
I share why joy isn’t frivolous or unprofessional; it’s essential. How play expands capacity, creativity unlocks solutions, and why clients want presence far more than polish. I talk about the invisible cost of being dependable, the pressure to keep proving yourself, and the freedom that comes from finally saying, I don’t need to do that anymore.
This episode also marks a shift. I explore what joy-led work might actually look like in 2026 - slower, smaller, more human. Experiments instead of funnels. Conversations instead of campaigns. Depth over volume. Creativity without monetising every spark. And trusting that being yourself isn’t a risk; it’s the whole point.
I share my predictions for where business is heading next: less AI slop, more real voices; less polish, more rough edges; more in-person connection; more neurodivergent-aware, capacity-led business models; and a collective fatigue with performing for algorithms instead of living real lives.
✨ Business isn’t meant to be endured. You don’t need to prove anything. Fun isn’t a bonus; it’s a compass.

This episode is being released on Christmas Day - and if you’re listening today, I’m really glad you’re here. Whether you’re hiding from chaos, peeling potatoes, avoiding small talk, or simply enjoying some quiet, this one is for you.
This isn’t an episode about planning, goal-setting, or using the time between Christmas and New Year wisely. There’s no strategy here. Instead, this is a breathing-space episode, a gentle pause in the noise of business, life, and the online world.
I talk about why proper time off feels harder than ever, especially when our businesses live on our phones and in our heads. We explore the myth that we have to be available all the time, the pressure to fill every gap with content or productivity, and why making space for what actually matters isn’t a luxury - it’s essential.
I share reflections from my own business after closing my group programme, going into this quieter period without pressure for the first time in years, and noticing how creativity returns when you stop forcing it. We talk about the beauty of doing less, why volume isn’t the answer, and how human connection has been quietly replaced by clicks, likes, and noise.
This episode is also an invitation to step back, to stop narrating everything, to let yourself enjoy moments without turning them into content, and to remember that business is not your whole identity.
✨ You don’t need to optimise this moment. You’re allowed to rest, exist, and make space for what matters, without explaining yourself.

This isn’t a shiny year-in-review. It’s the truth.
I’m sharing the most honest reflection I’ve ever recorded - a look back at a year that stretched me, broke me open, and forced me to finally accept myself in ways I’ve been talking about for years but hadn’t truly lived.
I talk candidly about the emotional, physical, and practical weight of 2025 - from a country that feels heavier and more divided, to global politics seeping into daily life, to the financial strain so many of us have felt. I share the reality of my husband working away for months, the chaos of selling and buying a house, renovating a doer-upper with no kitchen for weeks, my dad being in hospital, and the slow, creeping burnout that finally caught up with me.
I open up about what it’s like to hold space for clients while actually falling apart, the difference between being able to support and feeling able to support, and the bone-deep exhaustion that made even joyful things feel heavy. I talk about the shingles that forced me to stop, the guilt I’ve carried, and the realisation that my capability has far outpaced my capacity.
And then - the shift. The letting go. The relief.
You’ll hear about the programmes and structures I’m releasing, the too-many Zoom calls I’m never repeating, the creativity I’m bringing back into my life, and the excitement I feel for 2026 - a year with less noise, more life, and space to rediscover the sparks I’ve lost along the way.
✨ You’re human. And if this year has stretched you thin, you’re not alone.

After 14 years in business, something finally forced me to stop - burnout, shingles, and life all colliding at once. The surprising thing is when you stop pushing, things don’t fall apart. They soften, they slow, and you begin to hear yourself again.
In this episode of Messy Business, I’m sharing what truly happens when you stop forcing your business forward and give yourself space to just be. We talk about the difference between "can" and "should"; how self-marketing can become a trap; and why stepping back isn’t the beginning of the end, it might be the beginning of clarity.
You’ll hear the story of the moment I almost quit back in 2017 - and how letting go opened the door to unexpected opportunities that sustained my business for years. And I’ll walk you through what this most recent burnout has taught me about capacity, creativity, and rebuilding slowly, joyfully, and on your own terms.
✨ You’re allowed to stop before you break. Taking space isn’t stepping backwards; sometimes it’s the only way to hear what comes next.

Fourteen years in business - and about fourteen thousand lessons along the way. In this milestone episode of Messy Business, I’m sharing the 14 biggest things I’ve learned since starting out in 2011, from burnout and boundaries to creativity, capacity, and what success really means.
I talk candidly about my own burnout this year, how easy it is to drift out of alignment even when things look fine on the surface, and what I’ve realised about the difference between can and should. From learning that burnout isn’t too much work - it’s the wrong work - to remembering that fun isn’t unprofessional, these lessons are a love letter to everyone building a business that feels human, not just impressive.
Whether you’ve been here from the start or you’re new to Messy Business, this episode is your reminder that longevity in business isn’t about scaling or hustling - it’s about staying.
✨ The real flex isn’t scaling - it’s staying. Success doesn’t need to be big. It just needs to be alive.

Things are going fine. You’ve got clients, your systems are working, and you’re not firefighting every five minutes - so why does it all feel a bit… flat? In this episode of Messy Business, I’m talking about the part no one ever mentions: the quiet middle of business. The bit that isn’t thrilling, but is actually a sign that everything’s working exactly as it should.
We’ll look at why your brain mistakes calm for stagnation, how chaos can become a comfort zone, and what to do when stability feels like boredom. I’ll share how to stop sabotaging what’s finally working, why consistency isn’t complacency, and how to enjoy the “comfortable middle” - that lovely stretch where your business runs smoothly and you get to have a life again.
✨ Boring isn’t bad. It’s progress without panic - and it’s where real freedom begins.

You know you’d feel better if you slowed down - so why do you keep piling more on your plate? In this episode of Messy Business, I’m exploring the resistance we feel when we try to do less, and why simplicity can feel so uncomfortable (even when we know it’s what we need).
I talk about where that resistance comes from - the stories we’ve absorbed about worth being tied to productivity, the fear of being forgotten if we stop producing, and how our nervous systems get hooked on busyness. I also share real examples from my clients and my own life, plus simple ways to make “doing less” feel safe, not scary.
Because doing less isn’t laziness - it’s leadership. It’s how you protect your energy, create space for the work that matters, and show up sharper for your clients and yourself.
✨ Doing less isn’t failure - it’s focus. You don’t need to earn your rest.

I’ll share what I’ve changed in my own business - from scrapping free discovery calls to simplifying my offers - and how to rebuild your rhythm around who you are now, not who you used to be. Because outgrowing things isn’t failure. It’s proof of growth.

This is the promise I make to you - that your business can be calm, joyful, profitable, and perfectly imperfect.
If you’ve ever needed permission to stop trying to fix yourself and start building a business around who you really are, this is it.

You left your 9–5 for freedom - but does your business now feel just as restrictive as your old job?
In this episode of Messy Business, I’m exploring how we unconsciously recreate the very structures we were trying to escape, and what it really takes to design a business that gives you the life you wanted in the first place.
I share the story of how I accidentally built myself another job - complete with staff, office hours, and burnout - before realising I had the power to rebuild everything around how I actually work best. We’ll talk about how to spot when your business has turned into a cage, how to redefine success beyond 10K months or endless consistency, and why stability and freedom can happily coexist.
If you’ve ever wondered why your business feels heavy or out of alignment, this episode will help you see what’s really going on, and give you permission to build the structure that truly supports your freedom.

Ever worry that if you niche down too far, you’ll scare people off or have no one left to sell to? In this episode of Unstuck, I’m breaking down why that’s a total myth — and why you’re probably not niche enough.
We’ll talk about the real reason so many business owners resist specificity (spoiler: it’s usually fear, FOMO, or people-pleasing) and how broad, vague offers are the reason your marketing never quite lands. I’ll share why your niche isn’t your problem — your fear of commitment is — and how getting laser-focused on who you serve and what you stand for can unlock ease, confidence, and consistent sales.
You’ll hear examples from my own business journey, including the brilliant “tarot readings for Librans” niche that proves how powerful being specific can be. Because broad offers are forgettable — but clear, memorable, focused ones make you visible and valuable.
✨ The smaller your niche, the bigger your impact. Specific sells — vague exhausts.

You’ve probably heard the phrase “know, like, and trust” a thousand times — it’s the golden rule of marketing, right? But there’s a crucial fourth step that everyone forgets… buy. Because no matter how loved, trusted, or respected you are, if no one actually buys from you, you don’t have a business.
In this episode, I dig into what’s missing from the classic know, like, trust model and how to bridge the gap between being admired and being hired. I share my own experience of building a business full of loyal followers but not enough urgency, why visibility and trust aren’t enough anymore, and what it really takes to move people from connection to conversion.
You’ll hear stories from my early business days (complete with lime-green branding and 2012 Twitter nostalgia), reflections on how the online world has changed, and practical ways to position yourself as essential — not just liked. Because these days, being “everywhere” isn’t enough. You need clarity, conviction, and a message that makes people act.

Do you secretly hate marketing — or feel completely frozen when it comes to putting yourself out there? You’re not alone. For many solo business owners, marketing feels awkward, overwhelming, or downright terrifying. But here’s the truth: there’s no one “right” way to do it, and you can find an approach that actually fits you and your business.
In this episode, I break down where the fear of marketing really comes from (fear of judgement, cultural baggage, or just not knowing what to say), and why avoiding it keeps you stuck. We’ll look at the different forms marketing can take — from content to connections to visibility and systems — and how to match them to your energy and strengths.
You’ll also hear how reframing marketing as an act of service can change everything. Because you’re not begging for attention or being pushy — you’re helping the right people realise you’re the right person to help them.

That unspoken pressure to “go big or go home” is everywhere in the online world — but it’s also a trap that can leave you exhausted, paralysed, and disconnected from what you actually want.
In this episode, I share why I’ve moved away from the hustle of huge goals, and why smaller, slower, and simpler aims are not only valid but often smarter and braver. We’ll talk about how chasing someone else’s definition of success can derail you, why comparing your solo business to industry “norms” is pointless, and how to set goals that actually fit your energy, life, and priorities.
If you’ve ever felt weighed down by pressure to think bigger or grow faster, this episode will help you reframe “slow” as sustainable, intentional, and conscious — and remind you that the bravest choice is building a business that truly works for you.

What happens when you realise you’ve outgrown your clients — or the way you work with them? But sometimes, the truth is that you’ve evolved, your needs have changed, and the services or relationships that once lit you up no longer do.

Feeling bored in your business doesn’t always mean it’s time to burn it all down. In fact, boredom can be a sign you’re craving more creativity, variety, or challenge — not that you need to start from scratch. In this episode, I’m sharing why boredom often has more to do with the way you’re running your business than with the work itself, and how small shifts can reignite your interest without causing chaos.
I talk about my own relationship with boredom, how my neurodivergent brain needs both routine and novelty, and why I’ve built my Unstuck community to give me (and my clients) variety, connection, and joy. You’ll learn the difference between boredom and burnout, why the delivery of your work might be the real problem, and how to tweak your offers so they work with your brain instead of against it.

I share the childhood moment that planted this belief in me, how it’s shown up in my life and business, and why so many women internalise the idea that ambition is selfish or disruptive. We’ve all heard them: 10,000 steps a day. £10K months in business. The magic numbers you “must” hit if you want to be successful. But what if these targets are nothing more than marketing myths — and chasing them is actually holding you back?
In this episode, I’m breaking down the surprising truth behind the 10,000-step rule (spoiler: it was invented for a 1960s Japanese marketing campaign, not science) and showing how the same thinking applies to business. You’ll learn why setting arbitrary goals can set you up for failure, and how to create targets that actually work for you — whether that’s 1,500, 7,000, or yes, even 10,000 steps… or pounds.

Busy doesn’t always mean productive — so why are we still chasing it? In this episode, I’m unpacking the productivity myth that keeps so many solo business owners overworked, overwhelmed, and stuck in a cycle that doesn’t actually move their business forward.
We’ve been sold the idea that the busier you are, the more successful you must be. But the truth? A full calendar doesn’t necessarily mean progress — it just means you’ve filled your time. If you’ve ever felt like your momentum has disappeared, your motivation is nowhere to be found, and you’re not sure what to do next… you’re not alone. In this episode, I’m inviting you to look at being “stuck” in a completely different way.
Rather than seeing stuckness as something to panic about or rush to fix, I’m encouraging you to treat it as a message — a moment to pause and reflect. So often, we try to fix the wrong thing: we launch something new, sign up for another course, or blame ourselves for not working hard enough. But what if the discomfort is actually trying to tell us something useful? What if feeling stuck is a sign that something is misaligned — and an opportunity to create realignment, clarity, and calm?
In this conversation, I’ll help you reframe stuckness as a signal, not a personal failing. You’ll learn how to recognise the difference between misalignment and burnout, how to avoid impulsive panic decisions, and how to move forward with more clarity and self-trust. Plus, I’m sharing journaling questions that can help you reconnect with what you actually want — and give yourself permission to build your business your way.

Does your image affect your confidence and success as a business owner? Today I’m diving into this fascinating topic with Nicky Hambleton-Jones - stylist, author, and former presenter of the iconic TV show 10 Years Younger. We’re exploring how what you wear and how you feel about ageing can influence not just how others see you, but how you show up in your business.
In this episode, Nicky shares why confidence - both inner and outer - is the true game-changer when it comes to projecting authority and building trust. We talk about why your personal style is more than just clothes, how to create a signature look that reflects your brand, and why embracing your age (and dressing in a way that feels good for you) can transform how you feel and how others respond to you.
We discuss the reality of running your own business, surviving the highs and lows, and the power of staying visible and true to yourself, no matter your age. If you’ve ever wondered whether your wardrobe or appearance is impacting your confidence and success, this conversation will inspire you to see style as a powerful tool - not a pressure.

Feeling unmotivated in your business? Struggling to stay on track with your goals — or wondering if they’re even the right goals anymore? If you’re stuck in a cycle of resistance, procrastination, or feeling out of alignment, it might be time to take a closer look at the goals you’ve been chasing.
In this episode, I’m talking about what happens when your goals stop feeling exciting and start feeling like a burden. We often set goals based on what we think we should want — like hitting 10K months or building a team — without really checking if those goals still reflect who we are now. And when your goals are out of sync with your values, it can lead to burnout, overwhelm, and a whole lot of self-doubt.
I’ll share how I’ve shifted my own business goals over the years, why I now embrace the “comfortable middle,” and how knowing what you truly want can change everything. This isn’t about aiming lower — it’s about aiming smarter. We’ll explore the difference between discomfort from growth versus discomfort from misalignment, and how to recognise when your goals are no longer serving you.
Whether you’re ready to reset, refine, or completely rethink your direction, this episode will help you build a business that fits your life — not someone else’s version of success.
✨ When your goals are aligned with the life you want, everything gets simpler, lighter, and more fulfilling.

Indecision is one of the biggest energy drains in business. I know how it feels to have 57 tabs open on your computer (and in your brain), wondering which path to take and feeling like every option could be the wrong one. In this episode, I’m talking through the weight of indecision — how it builds, how it keeps you stuck, and why doing something is almost always better than doing nothing.
We’ll dive into what’s really behind that stuckness, whether it’s fear, burnout, people-pleasing, or simply too much input from the outside world. I’ll also walk you through my “clarity foundations” exercise — a practical way to reconnect with what truly matters in your business, so you can stop circling and start moving forward. Because once you know what feels aligned, decision-making becomes a whole lot easier.
If your business is feeling heavy, confusing, or just off, this is the reset you didn’t know you needed.
✨ Clarity doesn’t come from thinking harder — it comes from simplifying and trusting yourself again.

Your business isn’t a one-and-done kind of thing. It’s something that evolves as you do — and in this episode, I’m sharing a deeply personal story about what I’ve changed in my own business lately and why. After months of sitting with a niggling misalignment, I’ve made the big (and beautiful) decision to rename my coaching space from Confidence to Grow to The Unstuck Community.
This isn’t just about a rebrand — it’s about recognising when something no longer feels true, even if it’s working on the outside. We’ll talk about why misalignment can show up quietly, what it looks like in real time, and how to respond without throwing everything out and starting again. I’ll walk you through how I made the decision, the feedback that tipped the balance, and what it means for you if your business is feeling “meh” for no obvious reason.
Because alignment matters more than algorithms. And making a change doesn’t mean you’re failing — it means you’re listening.

Today I’m talking about something that stops so many brilliant solo business owners in their tracks: the fear of making another bad investment. Whether you’ve spent thousands on coaching that didn’t feel right, or downloaded freebie after freebie without seeing results, that lingering sense of shame, regret, or frustration can keep you stuck for far too long.
In this episode, I’m sharing how these experiences stay in our nervous systems, why they’re not your fault, and how to rebuild your trust (in yourself and others). I’ll explain the difference between smart discernment and full-on avoidance — and why not all coaching, courses, or investments are created equal. We’ll explore the signs of a healthy investment, what it should feel like before, during, and after, and how to tune in to what you actually need instead of what the internet’s telling you to buy next.
Because you’re not broken. The system is. And there is support out there that will work for you — no pressure, no guilt, and no one telling you you’ve failed.
✨ You can move forward without more overwhelm. One conscious step at a time.

If you’ve ever said, “I know what I need to do - so why am I not doing it?”, this episode is your wake-up call. Let’s talk about knowledge paralysis, the sneaky trap that convinces you to download yet another freebie or course, instead of simply moving forward with what you already know.
In this episode, I’m getting to the heart of why you’re feeling stuck - not because you don’t know enough, but because you’ve been convinced you should know more. Whether it’s imposter syndrome, perfectionism in disguise, or the comparison spiral of Instagram, there’s a very real cost to constantly learning without implementing. I’ll talk about how to break free from the “one more course” mentality, why doing one small thing beats overpreparing, and why you might never need to learn anything new ever again (really!).
This is a loving nudge to get out of your own way. If you’re surrounded by unfinished PDFs, unclicked emails, and online courses gathering dust, I’m here to tell you - you’re not broken. You’re brilliant. Let’s get you moving again.

If your brain feels foggy, your motivation has vanished, and everything you try leads to overthinking and second-guessing… you’re not broken. You’re just stuck — and it’s totally normal.
In this episode, I’m digging into what being “stuck” really looks like for solo business owners, how it creeps in, and why it has nothing to do with being lazy or lacking strategy. From the pressure to keep up with what “should” work, to the quiet reality that you’ve changed — this is a gentle, honest exploration of why things might not be flowing and how to shift without burning yourself out.
I’m sharing practical mindset shifts, permission to change what’s not working (even if it used to), and how to create the momentum that gets you out of your head and back into movement. You don’t need a full rebrand or a lightning bolt of clarity — just one small step today. That’s where unstuck begins.

If you're dragging yourself through your to-do list, doubting all your decisions, or wondering where your spark has gone… it might not be you — it might be burnout. And no, it doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes burnout looks like tweaking your website for the 400th time, staring blankly at your inbox, or feeling completely flat for no obvious reason.
In this episode, I’m talking honestly about burnout as a solo business owner — especially for those of us who are high-functioning, used to “pushing through,” and often the ones everyone else relies on. I share how burnout has shown up in my own life (including during divorce, neurodivergence, and a business that once drained the life out of me), and the steps I’ve taken to move through it without burning everything to the ground.
This is a love letter to brilliant women who are not broken, just exhausted. You’re not failing — you’ve just been carrying too much for too long. Let’s talk about how to take a step back, refocus on what truly matters, and build a business that supports your energy — not one that depletes it.

This week, I’m speaking directly to the women who always seem to have it together — the ones who are calm, capable, and endlessly supportive. You're the go-to for your friends, your family, your clients. You’re the one who says, “My DMs are always open,” and people take you up on that. But when you need support… where do you go?
Being the strong one is exhausting. It's not that people don't care about you — it's that you're just so good at caring for everyone else. And while that’s beautiful, it can also be lonely. I know this because I’ve been that person for years. And even though it might feel like you have to keep up the image of being bulletproof, the truth is you don’t.
In this conversation, I’m opening up about how masking strength all the time took a toll on me — and how softening, being honest, and setting boundaries changed everything. I’m sharing why empathy in business is powerful, how you can still be an incredible support without burning out, and what it means to be the rock without turning to stone.
If you've ever wished there was a “you” for you — someone who just gets it and holds space without needing anything back — then you're in the right place. You are not alone, and you don’t have to carry everything by yourself.
✨ Being the strong one is admirable. But you’re allowed to be soft, too. You’re allowed to need support. And you’re allowed to build your business in a way that honours your energy.

Ever wondered if your business would crumble if you stopped showing up daily on Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn? In this episode of Unstuck, I’m sharing the honest truth about what’s happened since I made the decision to step back from social media — and why it’s been one of the most refreshing, grounding shifts I’ve made in years.
After more than a decade of daily posting, I quietly stopped. No dramatic flounce. Just… stopped. And spoiler alert: my business didn’t collapse. Instead, I’ve felt calmer, clearer, and more connected than I have in ages. I’ll take you behind the scenes of how I reassessed my time, what visibility now looks like for me, and the surprising impact it’s had on my mindset, energy, and income. We’ll also talk about why social media isn’t evil (I still love it), how to use it more intentionally, and what genuinely works better for me — like this podcast, email marketing, and meaningful conversations.

We’ve all heard it: make a 90-day plan, set quarterly targets, forecast your growth. But for many solo business owners — especially those who are neurodivergent or juggling midlife chaos — rigid long-term planning can do more harm than good. It can feel overwhelming, demotivating, and like you’re setting yourself up to fail before you’ve even started.
In this episode of Unstuck, I’m flipping the script. I’ll walk you through why traditional planning doesn’t always serve us and what to focus on instead — clarity, consistency, and momentum. You’ll learn why setting goals based on how you want to feel might move the needle more than any spreadsheet ever could, and why small wins and aligned energy are the real secret sauce in business growth.

Showing up in your business can feel like a monumental task. Not because you’re lazy or unmotivated, but because it can feel deeply vulnerable to put yourself out there. Whether it’s hitting ‘publish’ on that post, sending an email, or recording a video, it’s normal to feel that tightness in your chest and wonder, “Who even cares?”
In this episode, I’m breaking down what it really means to show up — beyond just dancing on reels or shouting the loudest. I’ll share why visibility doesn’t have to be overwhelming, how to find the right platform that suits your energy, and how to build a sustainable presence that actually feels good. We’ll also dive into why avoiding visibility often comes from fear (not laziness) and how to work with that fear rather than fight it.

Welcome to Unstuck formerly Life In Business!
If our offers are confusing us, they are definitely confusing my audience. And confused people do not buy. Today, we’re talking about how to simplify your offers so they actually sell. Because, let’s be honest, this is the whole point of being in business, right? It’s not just for the sake of it; we're here because we want to support people, but we also want to make money. There’s nothing wrong with that.
I think the real reason we complicate offers comes down to fear. A lot of it is fear. A lot of it is imposter syndrome. A lot of it is trying to please everyone. And when we try to please everyone, we end up pleasing no one, because how can 10 different problems be solved by one product or service? Sure, there are nuances to every problem we solve, but if they’re completely different things, it gets messy.
Simplifying our offers means more clarity, more focus, and better sales

Feeling stuck in your business, but not sure how to get out of the fog? You’re not broken, you’re just tired of trying to do everything alone.
In this episode, I’m talking about what being stuck really looks and feels like as a solo business owner, and how you can gently start untangling your way back to clarity.
This is actually the final episode of Life in Business… but don’t worry - it’s just a name change. From next week, this podcast becomes Unstuck, and this conversation is the perfect bridge between the two. I’m reflecting on my own journey of feeling overwhelmed, second-guessing myself, and questioning what success even means. You don’t have to do this alone. You were never meant to.
You’ve taken the courses, bought the planners, followed the strategies — so why are you still stuck? If you’re feeling mentally fried and like nothing’s really working, this episode will help you understand why more tactics aren’t the answer, and what to do instead.
In this honest and gently rebellious episode, I share what’s actually going on when you feel like you’ve tried everything in your business and you're still not where you want to be. Spoiler: it’s not a motivation problem, and you’re definitely not lazy. You’re just carrying too much — and no Canva template is going to fix that.
We talk about the toll of overthinking, the pressure to keep reinventing, and why clarity slips away when you’re overwhelmed and unsupported. I explain why consuming more content isn’t helping (even if your brain loves it) and how creating space to think — rather than stuffing in more strategies — is the missing piece for most solo business owners.
If you’re exhausted from trying so hard, questioning every decision, and wondering if it’s you… this is your reminder that you’re not broken. You’re just ready for a different kind of support.

As a business coach with over 13 years' experience (and a fair few hard lessons along the way), I’ve seen it all — the “proven formulas,” the overpriced programs, and the subtle ways some coaches make you feel like you’re the problem. In this episode, I’m pulling back the curtain and having an honest conversation about what coaching should actually be, how to spot the red flags, and why not everyone needs a coach (really!).
We’ll talk about the real difference between coaching, mentoring, consulting, and teaching — and how so many so-called coaches are actually just selling cookie-cutter solutions. I’ll share the signs that you might benefit from coaching, the questions to ask before investing in anyone, and how to choose someone whose values truly align with yours.

I’ll explain why being visible doesn’t mean being loud, how to stop comparing yourself to others, and why the quietest parts of you might be the ones that shine the brightest.
This isn’t about being “more professional.” It’s about being more yourself.
✨ When you embrace what makes you uniquely brilliant, your dream clients can’t help but find you.

Numbers don’t lie — but they don’t always tell the full story either. In this episode, I’m sharing how to actually understand your business numbers so they help you build something sustainable, joyful, and profitable — without burning out or feeling like you’re always behind.
We’re continuing the mini series on the building blocks for creating a business you truly love, and this time we’re looking at the financial and energetic side of things: your profit, your pricing, your client capacity, and your energy. If you’ve ever found yourself saying “I just want to make 5k a month” but also “I only want to work two days a week”... then this one’s for you.
We’ll talk about how to reverse-engineer your pricing and delivery so you don’t accidentally build a business that drains you — and how to track the numbers that really matter, from actual income to return on joy.
✨ Your numbers aren’t just financial — they reflect your boundaries, your energy, and your dreams.

You don’t need to burn out, push harder, or work 14-hour days to build a business you love. In this episode, I’m kicking off a brand-new mini series sharing the key elements of what I call the Sustainable Success Structure — a framework I use with my clients to create a business that’s joyful, profitable, and actually suits your life.
We’re starting with the foundations — and no, I don’t mean your business model or marketing strategy. I mean you. Your vision, your values, your mission, and the things that light you up. Without clarity on these, it’s incredibly easy to fall into hustle habits, side quests, or chasing goals that don’t actually feel good.
I’ll take you behind the scenes of my own journey — from walking out of a secure public sector job, to building a six-figure business that didn’t fulfil me, to finally aligning my business with who I am and what matters most. And I’ll help you do the same.
✨ When your business starts with purpose, the profits — and peace — are a whole lot easier to build.

What do I really think about Mondays? What’s my biggest fear? And have I ever seriously wanted to quit my business altogether? In this candid Ask Me Anything episode, I’m answering your questions — the easy ones, the awkward ones, and everything in between — about life, business, neurodiversity, money, motivation, and the very human side of being a solo business owner.
You’ll hear about my real morning routine (spoiler: no ice baths), how I feel about giving up alcohol, and the surprising truth about what motivates me to keep going on the hard days. I also reflect on my neurodiversity diagnosis and how that’s shaped the way I work, rest, and reset. This episode is full of raw honesty and gentle encouragement — because sometimes we all need to know we’re not the only ones questioning things.
If you’ve ever felt wobbly on a Monday or wondered if you’re still on the right path, this one’s for you.

Ever wondered why some habits stick easily while others feel impossible? In this episode, I’m unpacking the real reason behind that — and how understanding yourself better is the key to making lasting change.
Let me tell you — quitting smoking and drinking? Surprisingly easy for me. But daily exercise? That’s a whole different story. It got me thinking: some things are harder than others because of how we are wired. And that’s the same in business. Your strengths, your struggles, your neurodiversity — they all play a role in how you build habits and reach goals.
In this episode, we’re diving into what it means to choose your hard, the difference between input-hard and output-hard tasks, and how to manage your energy so you don’t burn out trying to force your way through something that just isn’t right for you.
We’ll explore:

Let’s be honest — perfectionism is exhausting. It slows us down, stops us showing up, and tricks us into thinking we’re not ready, not polished, not good enough yet. But here’s the truth: done is better than perfect. And being real is always more powerful than being ‘perfect’.

What if everything you've been told about success — the house, the car, the 10k months — is just... noise? This week, we're redefining success on your terms.
This episode is a gentle but powerful challenge to the traditional, flashy, externally-defined idea of “success” that floods our feeds and fuels our self-doubt. Who decided a Rolex, a team of ten, or 10,000 followers equals success? Because it sure wasn’t me.
I'm sharing why none of those markers truly matter unless you say they do — and how chasing someone else’s idea of success is a fast track to burnout, not joy. This is a big one. It’s episode 100 of Life in Business (🥳), and it just so happens to fall on the relaunch day of my book — Life in Business: Easy Ways to Work Less, Earn More and Embrace True Happiness. In today’s episode, I’m reflecting on the journey that brought me here: being diagnosed as autistic and ADHD in my 40s, understanding why business always felt like a puzzle, and finally being able to create — and teach — a way of working that actually fits.
I share how my neurodivergence influences everything I do (from podcasting to program design), what finally made this business feel easy, and how sticking with this podcast — something I never do! — changed everything. I also talk candidly about how I wrote a book for neurodivergent business owners without even realising it… and why I’m so proud to relaunch it today with a new cover and an updated author's note that truly reflects where I am now.
This episode is a celebration. Of you. Of me. Of doing things your way and letting that be more than enough.

After 10+ years of being in business, the one thing I've learnt to be the most important is having a clear vision. There's no point in doing anything unless you know the WHY it matters and what you truly want.
Trust me, early on in my career my drive was more about escaping an unfulfilling job rather than following a well-defined plan and I couldn't understand why those negatives feelings weren't going anywhere. Of course they weren't! I had no idea what I actually wanted my life to look like.
It's absolutely crucial for all of us to regularly reassess our visions and ensure they still resonate with our current circumstances and desires. Social media places such immense pressure on business owners, doesn't it? There's that really annoying belief that we need to be constantly 'active' and appear like we're shouting for attention and if it's not working; the numbers aren't growing or we're not going viral... it's no wonder we fall into the trap of feeling invisible. Niching means getting specific and cutting out everyone else, which makes it a very scary but brilliant thing!

You know what it says in your Instagram and LinkedIn profiles, but is that what people actually remember you for? The words we say out loud are often what people pick up on, especially if we’re not connected online.
I had a funny experience recently where the only thing someone remember about me is a silly fun fact I’d shared at a networking event!

Getting you to 10k months is a big trend for online coaches you see on Instagram, but it misses the fundamentals of business: why set that as a goal, and what does it cost you to achieve it?
I am different to a lot of other coaches as I always go behind the scenes and give you all the information you need to be successful, not just the headline shiny carrot. Being in business can be hard, but it’s made easier by having a deep understanding of how much profit you want and need to make, and how much it costs you to get there.
I’m talking about business management today, and I break it all down for you into simple to understand language so you have all the know-how you need to set – and achieve – the money goals that matter to you!
In this episode you’ll hear:
It does not make sense to chase a 10k a month goal unless you know how much it’s going to cost you to achieve that! Money left in your bank at the end of the month is the only money that counts…

Pricing is something that often seems to be a real sticking point with business owners. You either feel you’re charging too much, or feel you’re not charging enough, and there’s always someone telling you you’re too expensive no matter what you’re charging (and even if you’re not making much money!).
Not having enough money is simply down getting your pricing right and appealing to the right clients you want to work with, and today’s episode will help you work out the sweet spot for you, your ideal clients, and your profit margin!
In this episode you’ll hear:
Remember, getting your pricing just right for you and your ideal clients whilst also making a healthy profit, is your goal. You will always be too expensive for some, and suspiciously cheap for others, and that’s ok!

Social media sometimes becomes a tick box exercise and just another thing on your to-do list, and that’s when it starts to feel boring to you, and to people seeing it.
I’m often asked “how do I get more engagement on my posts?”, and the answer is simply to make your content less boring, NOT to post more often! Don’t you just hate it when you receive a cold pitch? I doubt there is anyone in this world who has never faced imposter syndrome before. Every single person experiences it in some shape or form at some point in their life. Sometimes it can be mild. Other times it can be crippling. As business owners, we are more likely to deal with imposter syndrome, because, let’s be honest, when we have low moments, instead of looking for healthy ways to look after our mental health, we often turn to social media. We start mindlessly scrolling and ask ourselves questions like: “How did she do that? Why not me? What am I doing wrong?”
If you are struggling with imposter syndrome right now I know how you feel. I have gone through some dark moments myself and I learned A LOT about myself from those times. That’s why in today’s podcast episode, I talk about imposter syndrome and what it is, where it comes from, how to fight it and I give you a few practical ways to support yourself in dealing with it.
