There are some disturbing things that are lacking in the healthcare system. We know we have an epidemic of opioid overdose in this country. We think it's coming from the streets illegally but many are getting it legally. Doctors are prescribing it. 81,083 deaths from opioids in 2023. There are some medical reasons for prescribing them but there are too many accidental deaths because of them. We need to do better. And we can do better. My message is for caregivers to become the advocate for their love ones and check and double check their medicine. Question the doctors and keep their love ones safe from accidental overdose. As an actor, Taral plays many roles but no role is as impacting and devastating and important as her being a caregiver to her mom. This real life role is challenging and on going and it ways heavy on her heart. Her dad has excepted his role as husband and caregiver, which is not easy to do. This disease affects her mom and her entire family. In this moment, we have a lot of forms to read and sign and we also have a lot of information to sought through and supply to the hospital. So sometimes we do not read the Patients Bill of Rights. Ok, Most times. You're not alone. But in this document there is good information. Information that can help you to prepare to serve your sick love one or yourself to get through this tough time. The Black communities an underserved neighborhoods need this information so they can feel free to speak up to get the best service and care. Lower income neighborhoods do not get the best care or facilities but they deserve the same care that anyone in Americans has access to. Safety, Respect, Privacy, Correct clear understandable information, all these and more are your rights. My hope is that when you learn this information, you will have the tools to fight for your rights and your parents rights as an informed person who deserves the best care.

What a week I had with people asking questions about Dementia. Education is the key. Dementia is the umbrella of memory loss conditions and Alzheimers is the most common disease under that umbrella. It is a scary thing to go through but you can get through it with help.
Having Dementia or caring for someone with Dementia is one of the hardest things to do. Your life will change and the adjustment is difficult. It may constantly evolve. Know that there is help and it is something that Scientist and Doctors are working on.
Though there is no cure, there are medicines that will help. There are new experiments that may help future Alzheimer's and Dementia patients.
My hope is that a cure will be found but until then learn as much as you can about this disease. Be aware of the signs of Alzheimer's. Be aware of the possible situations that may happen. Be aware of your emotions. Get help. This is something you can't do alone.
