The NFA Daily Spotlight: Vote To Protect School Choice And ScholarshipsWith the passage of the Opportunity Scholarships Act, Nebraska became the 49th state to establish school choice and increase educational opportunities for Nebraska children. The Opportunity Scholarships Act created a tax credit for private donations to non-profit organizations that provide scholarships to children from low-income families to attend a school of their choice.
Immediately after the bill was signed into law, the teacher’s union launched a referendum petition to strip away parental rights and options for our kids. The NFA Daily Spotlight: How To Talk With A Friend Who Has Had An AbortionSadly, almost everyone knows someone who has had an abortion. This week on the Daily Spotlight, Executive Director Karen Bowling and Multimedia Specialist Elizabeth Nunnally discuss how you can talk with a friend who has had an abortion and needs to know about the hope and healing found in Christ.
If a friend confided in you tomorrow that she had an abortion, would you be able to respond in a way that brings her closer to healing? Here are five steps helpful steps for approaching this conversation:
- Listen With Your Heart
Begin by listening to your friend. Let her tell the whole story without interrupting her. You don’t have to understand every detail. It’s important that she lets go of some of the burden she’s been carrying and no longer feels alone.
- Assure Her Of Your Love And Support
Much as you’d like to make all her suffering go away with the right words, her grief and loss won’t disappear after one conversation. Assure her of your friendship. Tell her you will be there for her and help her find healing. Ask your friend if she has ever heard about help for people struggling after abortion. There are safe places where trained people can help her overcome grief and loss and give her hope. There are counselors and pastors who are prepared to help, as well as support groups and retreats.
- Recognize This Is A Spiritual Issue And Requires Spiritual Healing
Even a woman who doesn’t go to church or think of herself as religious can be afraid that God will never forgive her for having an abortion. She should know that God loves and forgives those who are sorrowful. He wants to comfort them and give them his peace. Thank her for having the trust to talk with you. It took courage. Her healing journey has begun.
- Don’t Let Her Suffer In Silence
If you see a friend struggling with sadness and emotional turmoil and you think that abortion might be the cause, would you know how to bring up the topic without asking directly if abortion is the source of her pain? A suggestion: At an appropriate time and place, you might say something like this: “I’ve been learning about the awful pressures women face to have an abortion or how, afterward, they suffer, grieve, and feel alone. There’s an interesting website where women share their pain after abortion and their healing journeys. And there are programs, like Project Rachel Ministry, all over the country that help women struggling with emotional problems after abortion.
- Point Her To The Great Healer, Jesus
Remember Galatians 6:1-2 instructions to us: “Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Spend time in prayer asking the Holy Spirit to give you gentleness and the opportunity to point her to Christ, our great healer.

The Set Me Free Project provides valuable curriculum to parents, schools, and churches to inform them how to prevent sex and labor trafficking in their communities. Together, we can fight human trafficking and stop it before it begins.
Unfortunately, human trafficking is happening right now in Nebraska, but there are practical steps adults can take to protect vulnerable youth. Moms provide a nurturing heart that keeps families strong and bonded together. Mothers are an essential part of the fundamental unit God designed for healthy, stable families.
Maybe you’re a mother who has a complicated relationship with your adult child. You may be a mom whose own mother has passed away, and her absence is felt more than ever on Mother’s Day. You may be a woman longing to be a mother, and that dream has not yet been fulfilled. Regardless of your situation, know that your story is inscribed on the palm of God’s hands. (Isaiah 49:16) You are not forgotten on Mother’s Day.

The NFA Daily Spotlight: New Study Shows Sex-Based Differences In Track EventsUniversity Professor Dr. Greg Brown joined the NFA Daily Spotlight to discuss his new research study that demonstrates the differences in speed between girls and boys in the 8 and under and 9–10-year-old age groups.
According to the study, “Over the 7 years evaluated, the fastest males were 3.7 ± 2.3% faster than the fastest females, with the fastest male performance being faster than the fastest female in every event.”
Boys and girls have unique biological traits that make a difference in athletic abilities and performance. Female sports should be for female athletes.

The NFA Daily Spotlight: The Week In History That Changed EverythingJesus paid it all—the ultimate price for our sins. He was innocent, yet he gave up his life. In Biblical times, crucifixion was one of the most brutal, degrading, and humiliating ways to be put to death. The sinless Son of God was crucified between two criminals. The curse we deserved was placed on God’s only Son, and our sins were atoned. On Good Friday, Christ was crucified, died, and buried in a tomb. But he didn’t stay dead. Three days later, God defeated death and the grave. Because of the resurrection, we have hope for tomorrow and the future. The tremendous sacrifice at the cross gives us peace with God and eternal life.
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. The NFA Daily Spotlight: A Victory For Free Speech On UNL CampusAdam L. Johnson, the chapter director at Ratio Christi at UNL, joined the NFA Daily Spotlight to share how their campus ministry is leading people to Christ, strengthening students’ faith, and making disciples through Biblical apologetics training and outreach.
Last year, Ratio Christi at UNL filed a lawsuit against the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) for failing to distribute student funds in a fair, viewpoint-neutral manner. The University had denied Ratio Christi’s funding request to hold a guest lecture with an expert Christian philosopher and former UNL professor. Despite hosting and funding multiple religious and political events that year, the University told Ratio Christi that it could not promote “speakers of a political and ideological nature,” and in order to receive any funding, Ratio Christi would have to “provide another spokesperson with a different ideological perspective” to counterbalance the Christian perspective.
A federal court recently entered partial judgment against university officials who discriminated against the Christian student organization. The University revised its funding policies to provide transparency and accountability in the process and agreed to accept a court judgment against them in the amount of $1,500 for denying the club’s funding request. As part of the settlement, the University also paid $25,000 in attorneys’ fees and costs. This is an exciting First Amendment victory for free speech in Lincoln and at public universities across the nation!

The NFA Daily Spotlight: A Physical and Spiritual AdoptionThis week on the Daily Spotlight, Karin shares her powerful journey of adoption, loss, and acceptance. Karin was taken to a German orphanage when she was just a year old. Amid the Cold War, Congress passed the Refugee Relief Act of 1953, which accepted European refugees fleeing communist expansion into the United States. This created a path for orphaned children like Karin to be placed in American foster homes. Within six months of flying to the United States, Karin’s adoptive father died of a heart attack. Karin and her adoptive mother moved to Nebraska, which allowed single-parent adoption. When Karin was 13 years old, her adoptive mother was diagnosed with bone cancer. She passed away three years later.
At a young age, Karin endured tremendous loss and hurt. While wrestling with sorrow, a chance encounter brought Karin to God. Karin found her spiritual family, accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, and was baptized.

Colonel Riddle joined the Air Force in 1998 after graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and is a combat-decorated fighter pilot, battle-tested squadron commander, former parachutist, and youth pastor. October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Holly Stutzman joined the Daily Spotlight to honor the life of her daughter, Willa Mae, and discuss her tragic pregnancy loss. During a routine ultrasound appointment, Holly and her husband discovered their little girl's heart had stopped beating. Devastated by the news, Holly and her husband decided to still deliver their baby girl, surrounded by family. Wanting to recognize their daughter's precious time on earth, the couple arranged a life-affirming memorial service. Despite considerable grief, God brought healing to their heartbreak, and several years later, the family adopted a little boy.

Father’s Day is this weekend, and we are celebrating the irreplaceable influence dads have on the lives of their children. Tadd Wegner joins the Daily Spotlight this week to share some of the joys and challenges he’s experienced since becoming a dad. Tadd and his wife Annie live in Lincoln and have seven children. After serving as foster parents, two of their children joined their forever family through adoption. By homeschooling their children, Tadd and Annie work to instill core values in their children and teach them biblical principles. Faith in Jesus Christ is central to the Wegner family, and they utilize a personal mission statement to love God and others, live and learn, laugh, and leave a legacy when choosing how to prioritize their time and attention.

Susan Dittman from America’s Great Stories joined the NFA Daily Spotlight to share how the ministry is inspiring young Americans by telling the true stories of our nation’s Christian leaders. At a time when history is being rewritten or forgotten altogether, we must teach our children how God’s grace and courageous leadership made America great, so these important lessons can be passed down to the next generation. When COVID-19 shutdowns limited in-person storytelling events, America’s Great Stories began producing short video reenactments to share with an even wider audience. Their newest project, Hugging History, embraces what is good and great about America, and the first book in the series tells the story of Abraham Lincoln’s faithful pup, Fido.
