Ari R Flagle’s fascination for reptiles and amphibians, during childhood progressively developed into an avocation an obsession. Since 1997, appreciation and concern for the species, Simalia. boeleni, has directed Ari to embrace herpetology as a career. He has dedicated his life to these pythons and has been traveling, living in West Papua for over a decade, visiting his tribal family and these animals that have established themselves in his life. The author of two books. Ari’s research and fieldwork in New Guinea led to the publication of the first comprehensive guide on the subject of Simalia boeleni in 2009 entitled Black Python and his most recent book, Serpents in the Clouds: The Search for the New Guinea Boelen's Python (2018). He has written numerous articles and has given presentations at conferences and herpetological society meetings all over the world on his field work in West Papua on the conservation of these pythons and tribal groups. With the continuation of his field research, Ari hopes to shed more light on the species’ natural history and to expose behaviors and activities that could help snake breeders around the planet to reach sustainable captive populations. For captive breeding might be the only hope of saving these snakes for future generations as human populations grow and spread and habitat dwindles, even in the remote mountaintops of New Guinea. Phillip Lietz love for reptiles started with dinosaurs as a kid and quickly evolved into a lizard obsession. Even though he’s kept and bred dozens of species over the years, Phillip’s energies have centered on the genus Uromastyx. Phillip currently keeps nearly all species of Uromastyx available to US herpetoculture and has been breeding the genus with repeat success for the past 7 years.

Bio Bryan Waterloo I’ve been working with the family Varanus for most of my life, started in high school with a Nile monitor and never looked back. My passion for this species has lead me on endless journeys meeting many of the pioneers whom have worked with varanus professionally as well as the private sector whom I’ve been very grateful to not only speak too but establish a long relationship with. I’ve been blessed to work with the most common of monitors such as Niles to the extremely rare like the grays monitor. My ultimate goal has always been lace monitors. Years later, including 2 overseas visits to really understand them ( one trip to Europe and one to Australia) I finally reached my goal and have been successfully breeding this species in captivity for the past 4 years. With no end in site . As well I have a deep passion for Boelens pythons and worked hard to get a better understanding of their husbandry requirements and help with the captive breeding of this magnificent python.

We are an international team of clinicians and scientists on a mission to reverse the cycle of tragic snakebite outcomes through a combination of innovative research, clinical medicine, and education-based public health initiatives. asf-logo-dark-background orange circle.png Snakebites kill or maim over 600,000 people worldwide every year in the developing world. Many of these tragic outcomes could be averted with effective antivenom use, yet it is estimated that less than 5% of patients receive lifesaving antivenom treatment. In order to address this crisis we created the Asclepius Snakebite Foundation, an international non-profit foundation led by many of the world experts in snakebite medicine. Our mission is to reverse the vicious circle of tragic snakebite outcomes through a combination of innovative research, clinical medicine, and education-based public health initiatives. Help us lead the way as we fight to save the lives and limbs of snakebite patients around the world

Join HTR Kiley Briggs is the turtle conservation coordinator for The Orianne Society’s Great Northern Forests Initiative (GNFI), based out of northeastern Vermont. As they have done with their Longleaf Savannah Initiative restoring and conserving habitat for Indigo Snakes and Gopher Tortoises in the southeast, Orianne has chosen Wood Turtles as the flagship species to wrap conservation efforts around in the GNFI. Wood Turtles, which are semi-aquatic and spend about half their time in streams and half their time foraging on land, are declining throughout their range and are incredibly sensitive to any factor that removes adults from a population (poaching, roadkill, and mortality associated with agriculture in floodplains). Through the GNFI, Kiley has worked to identify critical habitat for Wood Turtles in northeastern Vermont and is now working with farmers to find conservation strategies that balance Wood Turtle management with agricultural needs, building on a decade-long multi-state collaboration to restore Wood Turtle populations throughout the northeast by the Northeast PARC Wood Turtle Working Group.

Join us as amatuer paleontologist Amber Redfield walks us through the drastic changes that happened in the Jurassic period as continents continued to drift apart and the animals adapted in very unusual ways. During the Jurassic period, the dinosaurs took center stage and some, during the Jurassic, grew in to the largest land animals that would ever walk the Earth.

Join us as Amber Redfield walks us through this exciting time period! Amber is a musuem educator as well as an amatuer paleontologist working as a fossil preparator at The Academy of Natural Sciences at Philadelphia Pennsylvania. We are not only going to talk with Amber about the dinosaurs, but also about the climate, the plant life, the insects, and every single thing we can pack in to one episode.

This episode of Herpin' Time Radio begins our three part series covering the Mesozoic Era with part I, the Triassic.

The Triassic was an exciting period of Earth's history as the world was dominated by one super continent called Pangea. This is also when the very first dinosaurs walked the Earth. The Triassic set the stage for the great things to come.

The members of the Wabashiki Turtle Research and Rescue Group have been working hard to get an eco-passage built under highway 40/150 at West Terre Haute so that the various species of turtles and other wildlife can safely migrate from the Wabashiki protected wetlands to the large privately owned lake to the north. Sadly many turtles are smashed on the highway and those that make it past the highway often find themselves trapped between the railroad tracks where they are baked alive in their own shells. The members of the Wabashiki Turtle Research and Rescue Group have been rescueing as many turtles as possible from this gruesome fate. In response to their efforts, the Indiana Department of Transportation has erected two TURTLE CROSSING signs at the location. There is still a lot of work to be done.

You've all seen the Wabashiki Turtle Research and Rescue Group and the problem at the Wabashiki Welands talked about on Facebook. On this episode of HTR you will find out exactly how big the problem is and what you can do to help.

Dozens of turtles are being run over on highway 40/150 along the Wabashiki protected wetlands at West Terre Haute Indiana. Here are plans for a system of culverts under the highway designed to give the turtles safe passage that was drafted by engineering students at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology:https://www.facebook.com/download/822434907791390/Rose%20Turtle%20Proposal.pdf

The Indiana Department of Transportation turned these plans down. The Indiana Department of Transportation can be contacted at: http://www.in.gov/indot/2330.htm

"It's not like me to do this. I have NEVER photographed and posted animals dead on the road before. Yesterday I went to the Wabashiki area along RT 40 at West Terre Haute Indiana with Louise Slaughterbeck from the Wabashiki Turtle Research and Rescue group. The dedicated members of this group are out there along this busy major highway rescuing turtles every single day. When I was there, the weather was cool and we didn't find any living turtles. But the highway was littered with the corpses of smashed turtles. In just a two hundred yard stretch of highway I photographed these thirty three dead turtles. People need to know what is happening here! The really sad thing is that engineering students from Rose Hulman University have drafted a very detailed and feasible plan to put in a system of culverts under the highway with drift fences guiding wildlife to the culverts. The Indiana Department of Transportation has turned down the plan. As things stand now, there is a severe danger to the turtles that affects the Wabashiki ecosystem and there is also a danger to motorists on the highway. Please contact the Indiana Department of Transportation at: http://www.in.gov/indot/2330.htm and tell them that you would like the plan developed by Rose Hulman University to be implemented at the Wabashiki area along RT 40." - Justin Guyer
