Dr. Davis is a surgeon with 40 years of experience who has worked as an operating room safety consultant for the past 20 years. He has worked with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to develop patient and healthcare worker safety guidelines. He specializes in preventing a growing problem: the spread of HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C resulting from contaminated medical equipment and from needle sticks and other sharp object injuries during surgical procedures.

After many years in Nephrology as a Physician, Educator and Administrator he began to have questions about how Dialysis Care has evolved. Now that many clinics are run by large "For Profit" companies; are the patients, nursing staff and Doctors better off? What can and should be done to improve dialysis care. What are the responsibilities of patients in their care?
Dori Schatell is Executive Director of the non-profit Medical Education Institute, which conducts research and develops evidence-based educational materials to help people with kidney disease live as fully as possible. She has worked in the renal field for 25 years, during which she has written and edited hundreds of educational pieces for patients and professionals, including the original DOQI anemia guidelines, the Core Curriculum for the Dialysis Technician, Kidney School, and many others, and directed development of the Home Dialysis Central website. She is co-author, with Dr. John Agar, of the book, Help, I Need Dialysis! and worked with Dr. Agar and Beth Witten to develop a decision aid for dialysis called My Life, My Dialysis Choice.

Josh Morrison is a co-founder and Executive Director of Waitlist Zero a non-profit founded by kidney donors, whose mission is to expand support for living kidney donations.
Josh donated a kidney to a stranger in December 2011. He will explain his reason for his donation along with the process and recovery after the gift of his kidney. He and his group are bringing awareness to the lack of funds available to assist in the living donor transplant process.
He was a life sciences attorney at Ropes & Gray, a law firm in Boston, He received his B.A. from Columbia University and his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.

A discussion with the Wife of patient that after complaining of his level of care and the workers in the clinic, he was terminated for what appears to be trumped up reasons. He has since been blackballed from other clinics in his area; with no clinic to go to he has been forced into HOSPICE.
This appears to be an ongoing problem with DCI, Fresenius and Davita. This patient was a Davita patient. Dialysis Advocates went to their Legal Department and Javier Rodriguez the CEO of Davita. It appears that no one cares at the CEO level; we’ve asked him and the Legal Department to help with this patient. Nothing came from our request to CMS to help this patient who had no appeal and is not allowed to face his accuser.
This is happening much too often in too many clinics where complaining about care or workers leads to retaliation. What if any investigation is done at the clinic level is often poorly done and biased in favor of the worker or clinic. Patients are not allowed to see the results of an investigation nor are they allowed to face their accuser. A patient it appears has to go to legal to clean up a record they are not allowed to see.
We are having too many patients with the same situation Nationwide. One even having to strip down naked before getting dialysis.

A frank discussion with family members of departed Dialysis Patients about the level of care provided to their loved one. Additionally the feeling of a lack of basic information on the care of the family member and how they felt out of the loop during the Dialysis process and care for their loved one will be covered.
The current problem with overworked and under trained technician’s which has led to patient injury and in some cases patient deaths needs to be addressed and changes legislated.
There are too many cases of patients being terminated from care for unjust causes; then blackballed from care by other clinics within the same company.

Ruben Treviso has been an energetic fighter for veterans ever since he came back from Vietnam in 1971. He's been involved in numerous projects in Greater L.A. to honor vets in recent years.
Ruben is a TV host on El Monte TV3 dealing with Veteran's concerns. He recently interviewed Arlene and Bill Tinker founders of Dialysis Advocates along with Reverend Robert Hoyt one of the many Dialysis Patient's they have helped.
Reverened Hoyt, a Veteran, had been wrongly terminated from Dialysis care. He along with Arlene and Bill told viewers of the many abuses taking place in some clinics.
Treviso has become involved with the problems in Dialysis Care and is bringing this to the attention of the many contacts he has in Government.

Jimmie Briggs:
A year after he was declared ‘GQ Man of the Year’ for his work against gender violence, Jimmie suffered a heart attack and renal failure. Only in his early 40s, this sad twist of fate has forced him to live with constant uncertainty. We follow Jimmie as he struggles through painful dialysis treatments, searches desperately for an organ donor, and fights to get his transplant covered by Medicare.

Carol Edwards began dialysis in September 2000. Her renal failure resulted from hypertension. Unfortunately, she has also had several serious bouts with other illnesses which included heart valve replacement. During this time she recalls when she promised God that if he allowed her to get back on her feet again she would continue to give back.
After gaining her strength Carol reentered the workforce as a Social Worker in 2008. She has also been a single mother for years and has successfully raised two "men".
Sadly,within the 14 years of receiving her treatments in the dialysis clinics she observed that dialysis patients are not treated with the dignity and respect afforded to other chronic or end stage patients. She states that dialysis patients generate billions in revenue for the owners of the clinics, the doctors, the nurses, the administrators, the technicians, etc. however our rights as human beings are trampled and ignored as if we are an irrelevant part of society. It is important that we are noticed and heard.
Her philosophy is, "Dialysis is what I do to survive..it does not define me".

He was one of the first certified dialysis technologist in the Nation (1977). He was in the second wave of nurses to pass the nephrology nursing certification back 1987. Sigrid Fry-Revere, J.D., Ph.D., is the founder and president of the Center for Ethical Solutions, a non-partisan, non-profit, 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to educating the public on issues in patient care ethics. Sigrid is also the medical ethics consultant to the Washington D.C. Regional Transplant Community’s Organ and Tissue Advisory Committee, and just founded a new 501(c)(4) non-profit “Stop Organ Trafficking Now.” She has taught bioethics and law at the university of Virginia and George Mason University; been a consultant to hospitals, hospices, and home health agencies; and practiced health and FDA law. Sigrid’s more than a hundred articles have appeared in newspapers, journals, and trade publications such as The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, TheWall Street Journal, The Cambridge Quarterly of Healthcare Ethics, The Journal of Clinical Ethics, and Pediatric Nursing. Sigrid holds a Ph.D. in philosophy and a law degree, both from Georgetown University. The Kidney Sellers: A Journey of Discovery in Iran is her first non-fiction adventure book. She lives with her husband Bob Corn-Revere on a farm in Northern Virginia where they raised their four children. (Full CV available upon request.)
