Welcome to another episode of The GURU Code podcast.

I talk about self-leadership because I have discovered that self-leadership is what business owners struggle to get to grips with.

The infernal resistance in getting yourself to do the things that need to get done that will grow your business or lead your teams effectively. The tenacity that gave you the courage to stick your neck out and go it alone can also be as stubborn when there are things you don’t like doing!

So that is why we work on discovering that unique code that makes you…you!

So this month to challenge your thinking and disrupt your status quo we are going to look into the possible causes of our energy drain.

We want to assess where we are putting all our energy and whether it is in fact focused on our vision.

Are you being drained in your business?

Have you been feeling 'meh' over the last few weeks but can't put your finger on one thing specifically?

The fatigue… is real and it’s a level above tired. You will know what I mean if you’ve been there.

As business owners and leaders we ill afford to run on half power.

So, what is part of the solution? How do you manage your energy levels more effectively?

"The only journey is the one within” is a quote by Rainer Maria Rilke – a German poet.
Stay with me on this one because I can almost see your eyes rolling as I write the quote!

Let’s start then with a pretty bold statement to get those synapses firing up.

BUSINESS IS SIMPLE.

How is that for bold and brassy?

When you think of all the efforts you’ve put in already, into building, crafting, and delivering your business, has it been simple?

How do you feel about the statement 'Business is simple'? I believe it’s the 'being in' business that is less simple. Could you write down a clear process/strategy to build a mirror business? I bet you could. Being in business is the human element of the process. Now that is where simplicity can often end.

Welcome to ‘The Guru Code Podcast’. It’s been a while since we did one of these, so it’s nice to be back. And be back with a topic that I know you will resonate with.

Today we’re talking about the challenges small business owners face and how they can manage overwhelm.

Overwhelm was the front-runner in a poll I took on one of my social media platforms, so I am confident that this podcast will be valuable.

Even if you are in a good place currently, you know how business goes, it ebbs and flows doesn’t it….so to have something in your back pocket will be reassuring. And even better if we can put a strategy that circumnavigates the need for it to arise.

If we don’t know each other yet, my name is Liz Smith. Proud owner, and founder of The Guru Company where my focus is on growing you, resourcing you, discovering new personal performance levels, and becoming the powerful resilient business leaders your business deserves.

One of the biggest challenges of being a small business owner is managing those feelings of overwhelm. Drowning in demands, responsibility, and your own expectations.

Small business ownership is a skill.

It can be difficult to juggle all of the different tasks and continuously learn new skills.

It can be easy to get bogged down and feel like you don’t have enough time to do everything. In fact, it can get to the point where you don’t feel you have time to do ANYTHING. This is where you are almost in paralysis and decision-making is like being asked to figure out the LinkedIn algorithm!

That is a bit tongue-in-cheek but I’m right. You can find yourself making the simple complex and tying yourself in knots, becoming very emotional with tears of frustration not to mention crossed words and sleepless nights.

Do I sound like I’ve been there and have the T-shirt and the dancing shoes?

I love how some of my fellow Coaches believe that ‘overwhelm’ is all part of small business ownership. Im not sure I can fully support this belief.

I am absolutely convinced that anyone who is growing their business and leveraging their performance will be consistently in the arena of uncertainty. Why? Because that’s where growth is, on the other side of your comfort zone.

So my thoughts and suggestion to you in the very first instance are to be very clear about what you are experiencing.

If it is growth and the exploration of new possibilities, let’s celebrate your adventure. However, if things have stalled and you are feeling buried. Then I invite you to consider these suggestions.

Now if you have found this helpful I have so much more to offer you in The Business Owners Master Mind Retreat. This is where you, me, and like-minded business owners get to master these topics and many others. I want you to leave the retreat with new powerful, personal, and resilient mindsets.

If 2023 is your year for growth and transformation join me in October, all the details are on my website. Or send me an email, and jump on a call to see if it’s the right thing for you.

Thank you for joining me and I look forward to speaking with you.

Hi

I don't need to tell you how turbulent the landscape is in business at the moment. I think we have some years ahead of us before we get calmer waters. That's what we are covering in this month's edition of The Guru Code podcast.

Keeping Your Eyes On The Prize. Remaining fully focused on your direction of travel. Remaining resilient in the worst of storms.

As always our topics have been inspired by my lovely client conversations and covered in the Thought Leaders monthly publication aka The Monthly Musings from The Hygge Hut.

So this month was very much inspired by the doom and gloom over the economy and Her Majesty’s passing.

Both I feel have brought out some very deeply held defeatist beliefs on one hand and on the other very inspiring and heroic attitudes.

So this month we are talking about keeping our eyes on that prize.

You know the prize I mean.

It’s the one, when you talk about it, your eyes glint,

your tone of voice changes,

and your body has... a, certain energy running through it.

Yup, you’ve probably just got it!

Join me for the next 18 minutes to help you regain your focus on whats important. Establish your resilience and ownership of the "ultimate weapon against your challenges" (Bryant McGill.

You can sign up for your copy of the Monthly Musings from The Hygge Hut by visiting my website
Previous podcasts can be found on my website too.

The topic for our de-brief is ‘borrowed visions’. This was August’s publication. Each publication is delivered by email on the last Sunday of the month. You will be most welcome to join other thought leaders and receive your future copies before they hit the website, just pop over to httsps//theguruco.co.uk and sign up for The Monthly Musings.

As always, the topics are those that many business owners and leaders are reluctant to speak openly about in public or find there are limited platforms and forums for such open discussion. Both have been my experience in the past and hence the development of The Monthly Musings and this debrief.

Let's start at ‘blazing a trail’ This if you were honest s what you really want, isn’t it?

It’s certainly what I want and I make no bones about it. But before you raise from your seat and say that’s just ‘arrogance’ or ‘conceited’ or ‘egotistical’ it all comes down to the question ‘for what purpose’

You see the greatest value I hold is to make the most out of this life and squeeze the very last drop of juice from the lemon. Showing others they can do the same. To inspire people, business owners, and leaders to do the same. No one should live a half-life.

You may be one of the millions who are inadvertently following someone else's blaze and ‘borrowing their vision’. I know I did for years.

In the monthly musings, I spoke of my client's descriptions of feeling trapped and suffocated by success and the path they were on and this really resonated with me.

Now the way I described recognising that you are blazing your own trail was that of the face full of cobwebs.

Just like in business or life these cobwebs represent challenges, dislikes, and obstacles to get through. And that’s not a bad thing.

So many individuals are forced back because of the unpleasant nature and feelings and never get any further just stay. These will be the people who have a borrowed vision. They will look for a path that is already cleared.

Those who go through do it in their own way, marking their blaze for others to follow. They won’t be doing it because they are chasing someone else they will do it because they have their vision.

Now I suggested to my subscriber to help breakthrough cobwebs a simple but powerful exercise. I call it 'mirror gazing'.

You know that saying the eyes can't lie. Well, your eyes are possibly the one thing on your body that has remained virtually unchanged since birth. They are the window to your soul.

Now I invite you to do something similar for yourself… to allow yourself to see you. Who do you actually see using only adjectives list what you see?

You know in interviews the big question is to tell us about who you are.

This leads to lots of nouns, doesn’t it?

I asked my subscribers instead to look in the mirror and only use adjectives to describe themselves.

You may be surprised by who you find in the mirror.

Do let me know your outcomes.

Resisting success as business owners and leaders sounds like a strange suggestion. Why would any of us possibly be resisting success when in fact it is our ultimate destination?

If this is familiar to you then listen up.
You have lots of brilliant ideas and plans but you leave them on the back-burner or on ice until the right time shows up.
Do you procrastinate over decisions and taking action?
*Is there always something quick that needs doing so you get a clear run at something?

Well, I'm telling you, you are avoiding having the success you are capable of. Truly, it is an unconscious choice you are making.

Every month I produce a thought leaders publication for those business owners and leaders who are serious about their future and want to get out of their own way, open their minds, and develop their self-awareness to master their self-leadership skills. If you would like to get your copy direct to your inbox before it lands on my website or for more exploration on here then please head over to my website.

If you don't feel courage is a necessary asset in business leadership then this is not for you.

So many of us get stuck at points in our lives, careers, and businesses. Not moving forwards or letting go of something that's not working because of hidden fears.
With overwhelming fears of self-doubt, failure, and guilt often driving our behaviours and decisions. Leading us into half-lives and the 'almost made its wall of fame'.

In these 13 minutes, we simply break down the immediate and unconscious responses we often go through when we are seeking courage. It's when we are presented with a challenge that stretches our comfort zone we can disappear down a rabbit hole.

Courage is an empowering and powerful emotion to feel. We all want to lead a courageous and full life especially when you are leading your business to success.

It's a simple concept but one I invite you to think about adding and adapting to fit your needs.

I thank you for listening.

Would you resonate with the term ‘change fatigued’?

Anyone who has known me over the years will know that I love change. I love a clean sheet of paper, a new diary, and a good mind mapping or storming session to challenge the status quo.

But after the past 24 months who could blame you if you answered yes to this question.

Is it change that has worn you down or the speed at which change has happened? Or perhaps have you considered it might be the lack of choice and control over the changes that have become tiresome.

Change fatigue is resistance or passive resignation to uncertainty. The term is most often used when talking about employees and organisational change. But what about us. Is it a new phenomenon to use the term for business leaders and owners?

Have we been forgotten?

In this episode, I want to introduce you to a new perspective for viewing your plans for the years ahead. A way that has in the past years served me well and continues to help me maintain my resilience.
