Hebrews 11:1-2, NLT 1 Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. 2 Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation.
Hebrews 11:6, NLT 6 And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.

Acts 9:10-19 ESV 10 Now there was a disciple at Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias.” And he said, “Here I am, Lord.” 11 And the Lord said to him, “Rise and go to the street called Straight, and at the house of Judas look for a man of Tarsus named Saul, for behold, he is praying, 12 and he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him so that he might regain his sight.” 13 But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he has done to your saints at Jerusalem. 14 And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on your name.” 15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. 16 For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.” 17 So Ananias departed and entered the house. And laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus who appeared to you on the road by which you came has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18 And immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he rose and was baptized; 19 and taking food, he was strengthened. For some days he was with the disciples at Damascus.
Galatians 5:16-26 ESV 16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. 2 Kings 2:1-14 NIV
1 When the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. 2 Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here; the Lord has sent me to Bethel.”
But Elisha said, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.
3 The company of the prophets at Bethel came out to Elisha and asked, “Do you know that the Lord is going to take your master from you today?”
“Yes, I know,” Elisha replied, “so be quiet.”
4 Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here, Elisha; the Lord has sent me to Jericho.”
And he replied, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went to Jericho.
5 The company of the prophets at Jericho went up to Elisha and asked him, “Do you know that the Lord is going to take your master from you today?”
“Yes, I know,” he replied, “so be quiet.”
6 Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here; the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.”
And he replied, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them walked on.
7 Fifty men from the company of the prophets went and stood at a distance, facing the place where Elijah and Elisha had stopped at the Jordan. 8 Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water with it. The water divided to the right and to the left, and the two of them crossed over on dry ground.
9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?”
“Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied.
10 “You have asked a difficult thing,” Elijah said, “yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours—otherwise, it will not.”
11 As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. 12 Elisha saw this and cried out, “My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!” And Elisha saw him no more. Then he took hold of his garment and tore it in two.
13 Elisha then picked up Elijah’s cloak that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. 14 He took the cloak that had fallen from Elijah and struck the water with it. “Where now is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over.
Exodus 30:22-25 ESV 22 The Lord said to Moses, 23 “Take the finest spices: of liquid myrrh 500 shekels, and of sweet-smelling cinnamon half as much, that is, 250, and 250 of aromatic cane, 24 and 500 of cassia, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and a hin of olive oil. 25 And you shall make of these a sacred anointing oil blended as by the perfumer; it shall be a holy anointing oil.

Hebrews 11:1-7 ESV

4 By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks. 5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. 7 By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
Luke 2:41-49 ESV 41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to custom. 43 And when the feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it, 44 but supposing him to be in the group they went a day's journey, but then they began to search for him among their relatives and acquaintances, 45 and when they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, searching for him. 46 After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48 And when his parents saw him, they were astonished. And his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been searching for you in great distress.” 49 And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?”

This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”
John 15:9-11 ESV 9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” 28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”
Matthew 28:1-6 NIV 1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. 2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. 5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. He saw the linen cloths lying there, 7 and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself. 8 Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; 9 for as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead.
John 12:12-16 ESV 12 The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. 13 So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” 14 And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, 15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt!” 16 His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him.

Be it done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed instantly.

And Ahab rode and went to Jezreel. 46 And the hand of the Lord was on Elijah, and he gathered up his garment and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

And I will prepare the other bull and lay it on the wood and put no fire to it. 24 And you call upon the name of your god, and I will call upon the name of the Lord, and the God who answers by fire, he is God.” And all the people answered, “It is well spoken.”

We Are A Church That Excels In Generosity
We believe that God is radically generous. He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing so we too are radically generous. We give our time, our abilities, and our financial resources for the good of the body of Christ and the advancement of the Kingdom of God around the world. Our prayer is that generosity would take root in the heart of every member of the Crossing.
1 Corinthians 16:5-9 ESV 5 I will visit you after passing through Macedonia, for I intend to pass through Macedonia, 6 and perhaps I will stay with you or even spend the winter, so that you may help me on my journey, wherever I go. 7 For I do not want to see you now just in passing. I hope to spend some time with you, if the Lord permits. 8 But I will stay in Ephesus until Pentecost, 9 for a wide door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.

I want you to know that there’s a table for you. There’s a feast in your hospital room, a feast for your bad news, a feast for your crisis! Whatever you’re up against, THERE IS A TABLE. When we’re surrounded on every side, we’re set up for a feast. There’s a meal from heaven in your deepest pain, in your greatest crushing, in the middle of your nightmare. God says, I made this meal for this moment!

Revelation 3:8–13
Jesus told the Church at Sardis that they had a reputation of being alive, but they were really dead. Their spiritual reality did not match their claims. It can be easy to fall into the trap of having a form of godliness, but not having the substance of godliness. This week we talk about how to avoid this pit fall in our “Hope for the Church” series.
Revelation 3:1-6
The reason we have hope in this message is because of what I ultimately see in this message and it is made clear is that Jesus is watching over the churches, and Jesus is willing to go to any length to protect His church.
Revelation 2:18-29
Jesus is offering you a way of escape today. He has already defeated those things with his blood. He can wash you white and make you clean. He is calling you out from the things of the world.
Revelation 2:8-17
Why do I still have hope for the Church? Because for all of the failures. For all of the hurts and pains. Despite inquisitions, crusades, and abuses. Jesus has not given up on the church. As I look at the structure of the messages to the seven churches, I have hope.
Philippians 2:8-9 ESV 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,
“Hope in worldly things ends in death. But this green (olive leaf), living Hope is different. This living Hope bubbles up inside of us and whispers “this is possible”, giving us the courage to stand in faith for what God has promised. Living Hope comes from another world and another age entirely. It’s from the world we’re going to, the one just behind the horizon. And yet this living Hope comes to us. Just as the dove delivered the branch to Noah, this green, living, freshly-plucked-proof shows us that there is a world beyond this one and it is our forever home. The Holy Spirit is that living proof. He swoops in with hope in his wings and the future in his mouth.”
In Genesis 6 the dove with the olive leaf in its beak was enough to fill Noah with hope. He’s looking out over a God-judged earth, but in his hand he is holding on to hope. Because life is starting to bloom again. He was still on the ark. He could still only see the waters of judgment, but the dove had brought him a small piece of a different world. The dove brought him a small piece of the future. The dove brought him the sign that the age of sin and death is fading away and the age that is to come is just around the corner. The sun was beginning to rise on a new age. The dove brought Noah a small taste of the age that is to come, and I believe that Noah was filled with confidence and faith and I believe that he was FILLED WITH HOPE. Hope that his was not all there is. Hope that there is life coming. Hope that there is a future. Hope that although God had judged the world, he was making ALL THINGS NEW.
We have talked about our spiritual lives and our emotional health and maturity in this series: It Is Well. Although these topics can center around feelings, the Christian life is not primarily about how we feel. Rather the Christian life is a life we PRACTICE. This week we are talking about practicing the way of Jesus. Christians have been putting into practice specific spiritual disciplines for centuries. These disciplines or practices are means through which the Holy Spirit transforms us into the image of Christ.
“Believers are eschatological people who have experienced the first-fruits of the future, the Spirit.” - Gordon Fee
We live transformed lives. We are transformed into the image and likeness of Christ. It comes from a radically renewed mind, of a totally new way of viewing everything brought about by the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 22:34-40 ESV 34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
What do you think of when you hear the term “Good News”, or perhaps when you hear the word “Gospel”?
This is a term that is thrown around a lot in Christian circles but what exactly is it? Someone might say it means God has a plan for your life. Or it means Jesus has died for your sins so you can be forgiven and go to heaven one day. Or you might say the gospel is the entry level into Christianity. It is the diving board you leap off of to get into the life of God.
The Gospel is the good news about a man named Jesus. Who came and lived. Died, Was Buried. Resurrected and Ascended. The Gospel that is now king is a very public announcement with huge personal implications for everyone living under his rule. Love plays a vital role in the Christmas story. Because of Joseph’s love for Mary, he didn’t stone her when he found out she was pregnant with what he thought was a child out of wedlock with another man (Matthew 1:18-19). Mary has a natural motherly love for Jesus, and ultimately, we see God’s love for everyone by sending his son for us.

John the Baptist was, according to Jesus, the greatest man who had been born. But even as the greatest, John had doubts about Jesus. Did you hear what I just said? John had doubts. John had questions. John went through a period of soul searching. John asks Jesus…Are you the coming one? Which is an interesting question, because in chapter three John the Baptist is the one declaring this to everyone. He is the herald proclaiming that Jesus is the coming ne. Jesus is the Messiah. Jesus is the one who baptizes in the Holy Spirit and fire. What do you do when you're the one who is telling everyone else about Jesus, but then you start having doubts yourself? Join us this week as we answer these doubts!
We are celebrating the season of Advent. Advent means “coming”. During this time of year we look at the coming of Jesus. John the Baptist, speaking of Jesus, says there is ONE who is coming. So we look at the first time Jesus came and we prepare our hearts and set our expectations on the second time he will come again. There is no coming of Jesus without John the Baptist. Therefore, it is imperative that we look at John, and the part that he plays. All four gospels – Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. These are four eyewitness accounts of the coming of Jesus and all four tell us that Jesus does not come without John. He is the one that the prophet Isaiah foretold — He is the voice crying out in the wilderness – Prepare ye the way of the Lord!
As we draw closer to Christmas Day the Christian Church for many years has celebrated a season called Advent. The word Advent means “coming”. It is a time where we reflect on how God came to us, is coming to us now, and how he will come again. This is who God is. The one who was, and is, and is to come.

We Are A Local Church with a Global impact
We believe God has called us to love our neighbors locally and internationally. When Jesus said “Go into all the world” there was no distinction between home and foreign missions. To Jesus it was all world evangelism. Our prayer is that our church would raise up leaders and expand the kingdom here in Chattanooga and in nations all over the globe.
We Are A Church For All Generations
We are not a young church or an old church. We are an intergenerational church that embraces the wisdom of the older generations and the strength of the younger generations. Our prayer is that we would overcome generational divides to become a robust faith community.
We Are A Church That Excels In Generosity
We believe that God is radically generous. He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing so we too are radically generous. We give our time, our abilities, and our financial resources for the good of the body of Christ and the advancement of the Kingdom of God around the world. Our prayer is that generosity would take root in the heart of every member of The Crossing.
We Are A Church Strong In Spirit And Grounded In The Word…
We want everything we do to be filled with the Spirit of God and informed by the Word of God. Our gatherings, both large and small, will be characterized by a passionate pursuit of the Presence of God coupled with a hunger for the truth of God’s Word. Our prayer is that the combination of Community, Word, and Spirit would produce disciples formed in the image of Christ.

The Name is spiritual warfare. We have a name that is above every other name and every demonic elohim (spirit being) we may come up against in the unseen realm.

We believe that God speaks. If the creator who made us gave us mouths, vocal chords and tongues to communicate with each other then, why would he not also give us a means to communicate with Him?
