Welcome to the Growth and Goals podcast where we discuss all things goal setting, habits, mindset, productivity and so much more. I'm your host Ashleigh Nicolle and I'll be sharing all of my best tips, tricks, advice and encouragement for self love, self care and self improvement.
Today is my 28th birthday! There have been so many times in my early/mid twenties where I have struggled with feeling like I am behind in life, that I should have things figured out, I missed my chance to do something, or that it's too late for me to pivot. But the older I get the more I realize that there is no age restriction on starting a new chapter.
If you also find yourself feeling like you're behind, you missed your chance, or it's too late that feeling is an indication that there is something that you are wanting to do or a change you feel you need to make. Maybe it's quitting your job, falling in love, starting over in a new place, launching a business; whatever it is you feel you've missed the boat on, the time is now.
It's important to realize that you can begin whenever you want, but the key is to begin. Don't take the notion that you can start whenever you want as an excuse to kick the can down the road or procrastinate on life. Instead know that it's the permission you need to start today, the reassurance that if you fail you can always try again, and the wonder that keeps you young because you never stop growing, changing, and evolving.

For a lot of us our insecurities, self-limiting beliefs, or personal criticisims are the inspiration for the goals we set. While I think it's great that have the ability to see something about ourselves we wish was different and change it to become an even better version of us, the intention behind the change is so much more important that you think.
I am a firm believer that if you cannot hate yourself into becoming your best self. If you bully yourself into changing and punish yourself constantly you will end up burnt out and so beat down that you will actually regress to unhealthy coping mechanisms, toxic habits, and self deprocating behaviors.
However, if you can learn to change your intentions behind your goals, cultivate a growth mindset, and focus on positive reinforcement you will not only nurture youself into being the absolute best verion of you but you will have created a new lifestyle rather than just temporary change.
In today's episode I walk you through the mindset shifts you need to make in order to self goals from a place of self-compassion so that you can create sustainable habits, foster self-confidence, improve your relationship with yourself, and design a lifestyle of self-love.

I am very much a Type B person, but sometimes I find myself wishing I was more Type A and desire more, structure, determination and organization. While Type B people have their own strengths they can also struggle with things like time management, goal setting, and prioritization. In today's episode I share small shift you can make if you're a type B person that want's to adopt some Type A tendencies.
It can often feel like being Type A is glorified but I want to make sure my fellow Type B people know that one type isn't better than the other; they're just different. I find it helpful to tap into that Type A energy when I need to and be Type B when it helps. Personal growth isn't about changing who you are it's about evolving into the best version of you.

I don't know aboout you but when life is good, I'm feeling happy, and not stressed it's easy for me to stick to the goals and habits I set out to achieve. But it's like as soon as life throws me a curve ball, I become anxious, or overwhelmed I immediately fall back into old habits of not doing anything; eventhough I know those habits and routines make me feel my best.
If that sounds like you, then today's episode is for you. I walk you through how to come up with a game plan that's aligned with your goals, determine if your emotions are a sign to rest or redirect, or if they're an excuse.
It's important to not let temporary emtions make decision that could effect your long term goals. By sticking to a plan rather than letting emotions drive you, you'll begin to build determination, momentum, and self-confidence because you teach yourself that you can trust that when you say you're going to do something, you do it.

Lately I have been operating out of my masculie energy and I am starting to feel stressed, tense, overwhelmed and burntout. The tips I am sharing in today's episode have helped me move out of my masculine and into the devine feminine.
Disclaimer, masculine and feminine energies have absolutely nothing to do with gender, every single person uses both. They're like yin and yang and there are seasons in everyone's life where one is needed more than the other.
The masculine energy isn't bad, it's what drives us forward, gives us the courage to take risks and drives us to achieve goals; however, getting stuck in your masculine energy can lead to anxiety because you try to control everything, cause stress because you're in fight or flight mode all the time, and lead to burnout due to constantly striving.
If that sounds like you and you're wanting to move into the intuitive, creative, peaceful, and recieving energy of the divine feminine then this episode is for you!

Lately I have been doing several sober stints and honestly I have loved it. I did the 75 soft, dry January and now I've given up alcohol for lent and in doing these periods of being sober I have decided that drinking really isn't for me. It is something that has never really served me and I also think a lot of it has just come with age so I just wanted to share my thoughts with y'all.
This episode is in no way intended to tell you what to do with your life, you do what works best for you, but I personally have really started to look at the role alcohol played in my life and reevaluated whether or not I want to continue doing it.
I am so done with hangxiety, harming my health or spending tons of money on bar tabs. I have no intention of being sober forever but I do want to really take step back and start to change my habits around alcohol consumption.

I have been on a journey for YEARS, but for the longest time I didn't incorporate mental health practices into my daily life. I have been in therapy for years and my therapist would give me habits, coping mechanisms, or tips that I just wouldn't do and then wondered why I wasn't getting better. It wasn't until I started making taking care of my mental health a part of my every day life that I really started to see changes and feel so much better.
In today's episode I share small things that you can do every day to improve your mental health. These are things that have helped me immensely to completely change the way I think, pull myself out of dark places and grow so much as a person. So if you didn't know back in October I decided to start the 75 Soft Challenge, and after 58 days I have thrown in the towel. I seriously debated sharing this because I am a little disappointed, feeling guilty and frankly embarassed I came so far and didn't finish. However, I never want y'all to be under the impression that achieve every single goal I set out to achieve. I know this podcast is all about achieving your goals but I still fail sometimes and I want to normalize that.
I learned so much from this challenge but there were definetly some cons as well and I have learned that this is just not something that is sustainable for me. I am so proud of myself for having stuck with it for 58 days and I did see results and develop habits I will be carrying with me into the new year, so eventhough I didn't complete it I got something out of it.
Failure is a part of life but as long as we learn and grow from our failures we never truly fail.

I don't know about you, but for me, money has been tight lately. On top of that, between Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales your girl was influenced and made some impulse purchases. Wanting to improve my spending habits it something I have been working on for a while but after this last month of excessive spending I decided enough was enough and I am going to do a low buy year for 2024. So if yyou are wanting to do a low buy period of time or if you're just curious how I will be implementing it, this episode is for you.
I wanted to make sure I went into this challenge with a good minset because even though I over spent and impulse shopped this is not me punushing myself for bad financial decisions, this is simply learning to be more appreciative for the things I do have and actually using them.
Also it is important to me that this is a lifestyle change so I wanted to make it sustainable which is why I made room for exceptions because I believe if things truly bring you joy they are worth the money. All that to say, if you are planning to do this challenge with me I want to encourage you to be realistice and kind to yourself while doing so.

Lately I have wanted to live a softer life, especially as we move into fall and winter, I am looking to slow down, reduce stress and focus on prioritizing my peace, comfort, mindfulness and well-being. If that sounds like the kind of life you want to live then today's episode is for you!
So, what is a "soft-life"? Well it's the exact opposite of a hard life, it's a philosophy that rebells against girl boss culture, the constant hustle and grind culture and the mentality that your worth is directly correlated to your productivity.
Now that's not to say that people living a soft-life are lazy, unproductive and don't have goals. Itt is simple an apprach to life that allows you to pursue goals and be productive while giving yourself grace, prioritizing peace and nurturing yourself along the way.
A soft life will look different for everybody but if you're wanting to move into a soft season it is important to get your mindset right first by learning to reject the struggle, release the guilt around putting yourself first and redefining success to align with what's right for you.
It is my hope that these tips help you to live a more balanced life with comfort, joy and calmness. I think we should all try to embrace self care, meaningful work and connections and delight in all life has to offer.

Your sleep is crucial for your mental and physical health. Research has shown that chronic misalignment in your circadian rhythem can lead to metabolic diseases and mental health disorders; such as depression. Repeated poor sleep hygiene can also lead to insomnia and consistent lack of sleep puts you at higher risk for things like heart disease and stroke. Needless to say a good nights sleep is vital to your overall health and well-being.
Of course getting a good nights sleep isn't always easy; stress from work, family/household reponsibilities or anxiety can make sleep illusive. However, you can adopt habits that encourage better sleep. These habits are often refered to as sleep hygiene.
In this episode I discuss everything from bad habits that inhibit sleep, good habits that will promote better sleep, the ideal sleeping environment and even things you can do througout your entire day that will align your circadian rhythem. Lately I have been really into the clean girl aesthetic. It is so simple but looks so put together, it's literally the definition of high maintenence to be low maintenence and, to me, it's giving model-off-duty vibes. So I have been working to create a clean girl routine and can I just say I am loving it! If you have wanted to achieve the clean girl aesthetic, then this episode is for you!

Also, I want to note that you do not have to have perfectly flawless skin to achieve this look. Anyone and everyone can be a "clean girl" so give it a try!

Do you feel like you have to be a chemist in order to create a skin care routine or feel overwhelmed by all the products to choose from? If so this episode is for you! Keep in mind I am not a dermatologist or estatician so if you are struggling with your skin consult a professional on what they recommend for you.
8 Step skin care routine:
Cleanser:
The purpose of this is is to remove dirt and make up from your face. It is important to get a gentle cleanser, I used to think if it's burning it's working but that isn't true. If it's burning it's irritating your skin so find one that feels good for you.
Toner (optional)
While toners do remove excess dirt that was missed during the cleansing process there are two types of toner, hydrating and exfoliating, so make sure to check the active ingedients to see what type of toner it is.
Exfoliating toners should not be used more than twice a week and they contain AHA or BHA. AHA (glycolic and lactic acid) can be used on most skin types, while BHA (salicin) is better for oily skin as it penetrates deeper, see dermcollective.com for more info
Serum
Serums are used to treat specific skin conditions, if you don't currently have any issues with your skin you can use a generic serum with active ingeriendts such as vitamin C, there are different active ingredients that treat different things, but avoid trying to treat more than one thing at a time
Azelaic acid and hydroquinone reduce the appearance of hyperpigmintation
Eye cream
I used to think eye cream in unnessecary because I could just use a moisturizer, but many moisturizers contain fragrance, alcohol and parabens that can damage the delicate skin around the eyes
Additionally, eye serums contain specific active ingredients that reduce dark circles and puffiness.
Spot treatment (optional)
I personally use benzoyl peroxide to treat breakouts, if you struggle with severe acne consult a doctor about the best course of treatment
Moisturizer
You can use any moisturizer that works best for you, however you want to make sure it contains ceramides that will help restore your skins natural barrier, this will lock in moisture and create a barrier to keep impurities out
Oils (optional)
While serums treat skin conditions and moisturizers moisturize, oils are designed to nourish the skin. They each contain various fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants that can help improve the appearance of your skin.
Many moisturizers may also contain these oils so this step isn't necessary, personally I only include this step in my evening skin care routine
SPF (AM only)
Make sure you are putting on a minimum of SPF 30 every single morning. This will not only protect your skin from getting damaged by UV rays it will also prevent signs of aging
Having a skin care routine is a great way to incorporate self care into your daily routine and take care of your beautiful face. I hope thise helps make it a little easier on you, but of course find what works best for you.

There is a difference between loneliness and solitude, you don't have to even be alone to feel lonely. Some of the times I have felt the loneliest in my life is when I have been surrounded by people but they either weren't the right people for me, or I wasn't comfortable with myself. Solitude on the other hand, is the choice to be alone and to use that alone time to reflect or simply enjoy your own company. Grit is an individual's perseverance of effort combined with the passion for a particular long-term goal or end state. Grace is the free and unmerited favor of God. So how can we navigate life with determination and still lean on our faith.
In this episode I discuss:
Having grit is an important characteristic because it can get you far, but it is my hope that you never lose sight of your faith and remember where your blessings come from. You cannot grit your way to grace. You don't have to earn it and you can never lose it and that is what makes it so amazing.

I firmly believe that everyone, absolutely everyone, can benefit from therapy. It has completely turned my mental and emotional health around. It has helped me navigate my parents divorce, a toxic relationship, addiction, anxiety, depression, loss and so much more.
Therapy has truly saved my life. I want to encourage you to look into seeing a mental health professional whether that's a family councilor, therapist or psychiatrist find a mental health professional that works for you.
I know it can be scary getting help, I had a lot of preconceived notions going into it too but I promise you will never regret investing in your mental health. There are tons of online resources if there aren't providers in your area and many insurances cover mental health care so make sure and talk to your health care provider about your options.
I cannot recommend therapy enough, I hope my story inspires you to take care of your mental health, you deserve it.

If you're going through a heartbreak, this episode is for you. I'm sharing my 5 tips to help you heal from a heartbreak. One year ago, I walked away from an extremely toxic, four-year-long relationship and it was one of the hardest and best decisions I have ever made. While walking away from a long-term relationship that I had poured so much time and energy into was difficult the second it was over I felt so free, like this weight had been lifted off of me and my anxiety just vanished.
In this episode I discuss:
I have grown so much over the last year and as I look back on my relationship, I wonder how I could have ever put up with such awful treatment, but we accept the love we think we deserve. I hope you know that you deserve to feel loved, respected and safe in your relationships and there is someone out there for you that will trat you right.
If you find yourself in an abusive relationship and are in need of assistance, please call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-7233
In 2018 I hit rock bottom. I was stuck in a job I hated, living in a house and town that didn't feel like home, far away from any friends an family. involved in a toxic relationship, dealing with anxiety and depression, smoked a pack a day and felt alone and miserable. So if you have found that you've hit rock bottom, believe me girl, I've been there.
In this episode I discuss the 3 steps to start pulling yourself out of that dark place:
Evaluate: Ask yourself "How did I get here?" "What went wrong?" What role did I play in getting myself here?" "What am I willing to do to change my circumstances?"
Assess: Figure out what you want your life to look like, set some goals and then figure out what steps you can take today, what you can start implementing right now, to show up as your best self and start changing your life. Get crystal clear on what you want and who you want to be.
Take Action: Now that you know what you want start cutting away everything in your life that doesn't align with your vision because that is the stuff that's weighing you down and keeping you stuck where you're at. Once you drop that your growth will skyrocket.
Wherever you are in life these steps can help you get to where you want to go, but it won't be easy, in fact it'll be really hard, just know you're not alone and everything you want is possible. You already have the power to achieve your goals, now go get them.
So many people have recommended reading Atomic Habits by James Clear and after reading it I understand why everyone from fitness influencers, minimalist youtubers and self-help podcasters have raved about this book. I got so many golden nuggets and great take aways from this book and in this episode I'm sharing 10, which only scratches the surface of what this book has to offer so I highly recommend reading it for yourself.
I'm not exaggerating when I say that this book is life changing. It is chocked full of actionable steps, mindset shifts and excellent analogies that I have found super helpful in learning and implementing the methods discussed in this book. Many things talked about in this book are tactics I used to quit smoking and implement healthy habits into my life but James Clear does a beautiful job or wording and explaining these tactics in simple actionable, attainable and easy to implement steps.
You can purchase Atomic Habits online or at your local book retailer or listen to the audio book, you won't regret it!

Thanksgiving is this week and I am so excited. I love Thanksgiving because it's a whole holiday dedicated to being thankful for what we have and just spending time with the people we love. I think Thanksgiving is vastly underrated. So many of us, yes even me, want to skip straight to Christmas. However, Christmas has become a holiday about consumerism and getting and I think Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to adjust you heart posture and go into the Christmas season with an attitude of gratitude and make this holiday a true season of giving rather than receiving.
In this episode:
I truly believe practicing gratitude every single day can completely change your mindset and if you change your mindset you can change your life.
The holidays are the season of giving, yet so often we get caught up in the consumerism and capitalism that surrounds the holiday season. This year I want to encourage you to remember the true reason for the season and give to those who are in need. It feels even better to give than it does to receive so while you're out doing your holiday shopping maybe pick something up for someone in need.
In this episode we discuss:
I hope this episode inspires you to clean out your house and donate things that you're not even using anymore that can be life changing to someone in need or maybe pick up some extra cans of food while you're at the grocery store preparing for Thanksgiving dinner. Whatever your financial situation I promise you have something to give that will mean so much to someone. So get out there and make this season actually about giving.

In this episode I discuss:
I am choosing to let go of my mistakes. To learn from them and move on. You can choose to either give up because you messed up or you can give yourself grace, learn from your mistakes and create a plan to do better in the future. Believe me I have wanted to throw in the towel multiple times because I screwed up so what's the point of trying again? I wanted to share this episode with you because I want you to know you're not alone and we can still choose to change our life, even though we've made mistakes.

In this episode I discuss:

In the final episode of this mini series, where I am busting the most common myths we tell ourselves as to why we can't achieve our goals, I'm discussing the myth "I don't have the ability to achieve my goal". This boils down to imposter syndrome. It's something everyone struggles with, it's hard not to feel imposter syndrome when you can scroll through Instagram and see everyone's highlight reel.
There are people in the world with less talent, skill and passion than you doing what you want to do simply because they refused to quit. The world needs your unique talent and gifts and by not going after your dreams you're depriving everyone else. Stop comparing your beginning to everyone else's middle, focus on you and just take it one step at a time. God wouldn't put a calling on your heart if you weren't equipped to do it.

I know some dreams require an investment whether that's spending thousands on having a custom website built for your business or hiring a personal trainer or buying an online course to learn a new skill.
Investing in yourself and your dreams can be scary. What if it doesn't work out? But I'm hear to tell you that an investment in yourself will always come back to you. Your dreams are worth investing in. I'm not saying you should go into debt but get creative. Create new income streams, cut costs where you can, learn what you can for free. Don't let money be what holds you back.
