If there were a Mount Rushmore of NH educators, Irv Richardson would certainly be there. On the podcast, you'll hear of Irv's illustrious career in education and his impact on thousands of students and educators. He is also the recipient of the 2024 NHASCD Educational Leadership Award as part of the NH Excellence in Education Awards…the EDies.
ABOUT
Dr. Irv Richardson is likely best known as the Coordinator for Public Education and School Support for NEA-NH. He is also on the doctoral program faculty at Southern NH University and helped grow Staff Development for Educators (SDE) with the late Jim Grant. Irv was Maine’s teacher of the year in 1988 and on the team that wrote the National INTASC teaching standards. He will receive his Eddy on June 8 from NHASCD at the Doubletree in Manchester, NH.

Alyssa Gallagher, author of the just-released book Messy Leadership, shares her insights on embracing complexity and uncertainty in educational leadership, a topic she has explored through the experiences of 20,000 school leaders.
ABOUT
Alyssa Gallagher co-leads BTS Spark in North America, helping school leaders access leadership coaching and professional development. She has 20 years in K-12 public education as a teacher, principal and assistant superintendent. One of Alyssa’s great successes was the transformation of the Los Altos, CA school district which became a leader in educational innovation and was featured on national media, including CNN and 60 Minutes. Alyssa also worked with Sal Kahn to pilot Khan Academy through that district. She has coauthored books on design thinking, and her latest ASCD book Messy Leadership, was co-authored with Rosie Connor.

Since 2002, TIGER (Theater Integrating Guidance Education and Responsibility) has produced 2,500 shows, hosted 3,000 student workshops, and visited over 500 schools throughout New England with many different casts. For scores of NH schools, TIGER has been a lynchpin of social-emotional learning for elementary and secondary students. In this podcast, we chat with Dr. Trish Lindberg and Pam Irish, the two most responsible for this strongly successful program.

Dr. Trish Lindberg is a Professor in the Education Leadership, Learning, and Curriculum Graduate Department at Plymouth State University (PSU). She coordinates the Master of Education in the Integrated Arts Program at PSU. Trish is also co-founder of the Educational Theatre Collaborative, founder of the Kearsarge Arts Theatre program, and artistic director of TIGER.
Pam Irish is TIGER’s tour manager. She’s a native of Rhode Island, studied at Johnson and Wales University, and is the machine that keeps TIGER rolling year after year, now in its 21st season.

Christina is the Director of EdTech Learning and Growth, and Kirsten Soroko, is the Director of Personalized Learning and Growth, both at Pinkerton Academy.
Christina has more than 15 years of experience in education. She serves on the NHSTE (NH Society for Technology in Education) board as the Professional Learning Chair, and is a Google Certified Trainer, Google Innovator, and ISTE Certified Educator / Community Leader. Christina has many years of working in the IT private sector. She has also been a previous guest on this podcast, speaking on AI.
Kirsten supports the development and facilitation of Pinkerton professional learning and growth of all educational personnel. She has become a leader for professional learning in many state venues including CTE career and Technical educators. Dr. Lloyd is the Vice Chancellor of the Community College System of NH. Before this post, he was President of White Mountains Community College. He served at NHTI/Concord Community College as Interim VP of Student Affairs, Associate VP of Student Affairs, and Professor of Business. Charles also teaches in New England College’s doctoral program. He grew up in Franklin, NH, and is a proud graduate of Keene State College. Charles received his doctorate at Northeastern University.

ABOUT
Kristen Moreland is an accomplished facilitator and educational leader with over 25 years of international and domestic experience. Kristen has recently transitioned from the Pan American School in Porto Alegre, Brazil, where she served as an instructional coach for three years, to northern New Hampshire, where she is currently the Director of Teaching and Learning for the Littleton Schools in SAU 84.
After graduating from the University of Colorado, Boulder, she joined the U.S. Peace Corps and moved to Cameroon in Central Africa, where she taught English as a foreign language at a local public school. Upon completing her service, Kristen returned to teaching in the United States with a short break to complete her master's degree at the University of Denver. In 2005, she moved to Istanbul, Turkey, where she taught middle school English for five years. Back in Denver, Colorado, Kristen transitioned into an instructional coaching role, where she received extensive training in facilitation, culturally responsive pedagogy, and the needs of adult learners. Committed to growth and transformation, Kristen recently earned her EdD from Southern New Hampshire University, focusing on bringing humanity back to education.

The Christa McAuliffe Transforming Teaching and Technology Conference just completed its 37th year of operation. We sat down with Cyndi Dunlap, who has been the driving force behind this wonderful New Hampshire institution and also learned about Cyndi’s rich career in technology education.

She began her career as a middle school special education teacher and then transitioned to groundbreaking technology development and consulting, all in the education space. He has authored or co-authored 12 books, over 38 book chapters, 38 journal articles, and over 50 conference papers. Peter has won numerous awards and is a former high school mathematics teacher; his research is never far away from practical application in the classroom. Yet, most of the public does not understand what these standards represent and why they are critically important for our students. Christine Downing is the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for SAU 32 (Plainfield), SAU 75 (Grantham), and SAU 100 (Cornish). She has 30 years in education as an NHED consultant, middle school math and science teacher, elementary principal, and central office educator. Her current volunteer project is to gather specific feedback on ED 306 from school leaders and educators to help in the process of editing the latest version of the minimum standards. Christine is passionate about supporting public schools and competency-based learning in NH.

The Minimum School Approval Standards (ED Rules 306) are being reviewed and updated. These rules impact curriculum, instruction, and assessment at the local level in all grade levels and many content areas. Specific review sessions are being conducted to obtain feedback directly from practicing educators in our local schools. Below is a list of sessions and locations along with registration links for each session. These sessions provide educators with the opportunity to learn about ED Rules 306, impact these rules have on teaching, review suggested changes, and provide feedback on the revisions. All feedback will be synthesized and presented on behalf of NH educators at a state board meeting in late September. There is no cost for this session and educators will receive 2.5 hours of professional learning credit. This session is being facilitated by Christine Downing, current Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for Cornish, Plainfield and Grantham School Districts; and former school improvement coach, Common Core Consultant, and Mathematics Specialist for NH Department of Education.This is an opportunity for educators to increase their own knowledge and application of how ED 306 standards support teaching and learning, and provide important feedback on the future of public school expectations. Doannie Tran is the author of The Open System: Redesigning, Education, & Reigniting Democracy with co-author Landon Mascareñaz. This episode explores how open communication between education stakeholders can improve equity and bolster public trust in our schools. Zack Sheehan, the Executive Director of the New Hampshire School Funding Fairness Project, joins Bill Carozza and Laconia, NH Superintendent Steve Tucker, to talk about the state of school funding and where it may be going in the future.

Zack Sheehan has a rich background in advocacy. He worked as a legislative assistant for the NH House of Representatives, was a field organizer for the Family Friendly Economy, and was instrumental in passing paid leave legislation for the Granite State. She is the author or co-author of Violence in Student Writing, Law Meets Literature, The Supreme 15, The Themes That Bind Us, and Prepare to Chair. Vicki Bautista is an assistant professor at Creighton University in the department of interdisciplinary studies. She serves as the assistant director for the MS program in integrative health and wellness.
